This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2015-10-30 09:19:41] BitMEX_Arthur : after any profit adjustment is applied
[2015-10-30 09:20:27] Mido : why is that rebalance for?
[2015-10-30 09:20:31] Mido : what*
[2015-10-30 09:20:37] roymalmberg : contract expiration
[2015-10-30 09:21:02] Mido : so it was my fault. I shouldn't been buying them a few hours ago
[2015-10-30 09:21:06] roymalmberg : It's not like CFDs, contracts need to expire
[2015-10-30 09:21:19] BitMEX_Arthur : For contracts that are longer than a week in length, all profits are realised each week and if there is a profit adjustment it is applied and then the profit is released to you
[2015-10-30 09:21:27] roymalmberg : just like any futures
[2015-10-30 09:21:48] Mido : I have bought 24h contracts.
[2015-10-30 09:22:02] Mido : a few hours ago
[2015-10-30 09:22:06] Mido : with no stop price
[2015-10-30 09:22:08] roymalmberg : then they expire within a few hours
[2015-10-30 09:22:10] BitMEX_Arthur : Your profit will be released in a few hours
[2015-10-30 09:22:15] roymalmberg : 12:00
[2015-10-30 09:22:26] Mido : yea but.. i had ~0.88 btc
[2015-10-30 09:22:35] Mido : after rebalance i will have ~0.67
[2015-10-30 09:22:42] Mido : and there was no price drop
[2015-10-30 09:22:48] roymalmberg : perhaps you bought to high
[2015-10-30 09:22:57] roymalmberg : or to leveraged and got liquidated?
[2015-10-30 09:23:09] BitMEX_Arthur : You unrealised pnl is marked to the fair price, not the last price
[2015-10-30 09:23:10] roymalmberg : got to always protect the downside
[2015-10-30 09:23:18] BitMEX_Arthur : It is used for margin calls, but doesn't affect your realised pnl
[2015-10-30 09:24:05] Mido : So in short: trading with leverage on friday before 12:00 is dangerous
[2015-10-30 09:25:20] roymalmberg : its very volatile
[2015-10-30 09:29:21] Mido : last question
[2015-10-30 09:29:39] Mido : lets say that this whole "rebalance" doesn't apply
[2015-10-30 09:29:50] Mido : what would happen?
[2015-10-30 09:32:41] BitMEX_Arthur : It happens every week except for XBUZ15
[2015-10-30 09:33:30] Mido : I know I know
[2015-10-30 09:33:43] Mido : but what would happen if there was no such a mechanism
[2015-10-30 09:34:52] BitMEX_Arthur : Then realised pnl could be withdrawn and re leveraged whenever you pleased
[2015-10-30 09:35:43] Mido : and why is that bad?
[2015-10-30 09:41:39] BitMEX_Arthur : It is bad if there is a system loss we need to be able to adjust the profit of the winners.
[2015-10-30 09:42:45] Mido : I feel incoming correction.
[2015-10-30 09:57:31] gaoMex : BitMEX_Arthur: What is your view on this news? http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-10-30/yuan-rises-most-since-2005-as-pboc-mulls-easing-capital-controls
[2015-10-30 10:08:06] donchard : so xbt24 have expired rite
[2015-10-30 10:13:07] donchard : helo when will xbt24 open
[2015-10-30 10:13:41] BitMEX_Arthur : It is open now
[2015-10-30 10:13:52] BitMEX_Arthur : Expiry is in 2 hours
[2015-10-30 10:13:58] BitMEX_Arthur : Then a new XBT24H will list
[2015-10-30 10:14:39] donchard : utc is it the same with gmt
[2015-10-30 10:14:50] BitMEX_Arthur : Yes
[2015-10-30 11:01:30] Mido : 12:01 and I still have no access to all my btcs.
[2015-10-30 11:08:38] Mido : How long do I have to wait :/?
[2015-10-30 11:09:07] habibi : It's 11:08 utc time atm so 52 minutes more.
[2015-10-30 11:09:42] Mido : oh right, bitmex shows me my time
[2015-10-30 11:09:49] habibi : right
[2015-10-30 11:47:53] habibi : Is there option to calculate expiry price?
[2015-10-30 11:48:35] BitMEX_Wally : habibi: We publish the 'Indicative Settle Price' on the instrument
[2015-10-30 11:50:06] macios15 : dunp
[2015-10-30 11:50:08] macios15 : dump*
[2015-10-30 11:53:24] habibi : BitMEX_Wally: can u specify where can i find it?
[2015-10-30 11:53:44] BitMEX_Wally : In the 'Advanced Layout' go to the Instrument ab
[2015-10-30 11:53:52] BitMEX_Wally : Click the little `>>` on the left to expand
[2015-10-30 11:54:05] BitMEX_Wally : Then scroll to the right
[2015-10-30 11:55:04] BitMEX_Wally : The indicative settle price for `XBT24H` is 325.36
[2015-10-30 11:55:19] BitMEX_Wally : (based on 25 out of the 30 minutes of the TWAP period)
[2015-10-30 11:55:37] j8 : BitMEX_Wally: any chance you could do withdrawals a couple minutes after settlement today?
[2015-10-30 11:56:14] BitMEX_Wally : Sure
[2015-10-30 11:56:38] j8 : excellent
[2015-10-30 11:57:00] BitMEX_Wally : We should reschedule the withdrawal cutoff anyway, so people can withdraw withheld margin
[2015-10-30 11:57:16] j8 : yeah for real
[2015-10-30 12:00:42] justinlooking : where's NOV!
[2015-10-30 12:01:36] habibi : 300.001000013:00:50

[2015-10-30 12:02:49] gaoMex : fat fingers?
[2015-10-30 12:03:01] jung1 : shieeeet
[2015-10-30 12:03:09] stf28 : sadly orders are cancelled at settlement time :(
[2015-10-30 12:03:24] habibi : it was after settlement time
[2015-10-30 12:03:26] habibi : i think :)
[2015-10-30 12:03:54] stf28 : yes 50 seconds after, bu who's got any time to place orders in 20s except bots?
[2015-10-30 12:04:10] habibi : even it was bot, good for one who got long
[2015-10-30 12:04:17] stf28 : i would be glad to talk with the proud 100000@300 owners :)
[2015-10-30 12:04:37] loke : stf28: hello
[2015-10-30 12:04:50] loke : i just did a dance

[2015-10-30 12:06:13] loke : hahaha
[2015-10-30 12:07:32] habibi : why 7500 is so common number here?
[2015-10-30 12:09:00] jung1 : seven is lucky number
[2015-10-30 12:09:06] jung1 : and 5 is for high five
[2015-10-30 12:09:43] habibi : yea yea and double 0 stands for Bond
[2015-10-30 12:10:07] jung1 : exactly
[2015-10-30 12:10:15] stf28 : i think it comes from the bot with 10k bids, just using units of 2500
[2015-10-30 12:22:42] zanza : I dont trade the 24H, but it must be a wild ride lately
[2015-10-30 12:23:28] jung1 : yeah quite fun
[2015-10-30 12:23:35] zanza : i dont understand the orderbook
[2015-10-30 12:23:41] zanza : it goes 324.22, then 300 next
[2015-10-30 12:24:04] zanza : oh, nm my ui bugged, had to refr
[2015-10-30 12:24:42] zanza : i think you have to be insane to trade XBT24H actually
[2015-10-30 12:24:58] jung1 : could be
[2015-10-30 12:24:58] j8 : just use lower leverage
[2015-10-30 12:29:41] j8 : i shorted `XBT24H` every day last week, never liquidated
[2015-10-30 12:30:48] jung1 : you play with stop loss?
[2015-10-30 12:31:22] j8 : no i use more margin and hedge against longer expiries, and set alarms
[2015-10-30 12:32:58] jung1 : someone clos shorts
[2015-10-30 12:34:08] jung1 : okcoin 318
[2015-10-30 12:34:08] zanza : how come 'XBT24H' and 'XBT7D' settle at different prices?
[2015-10-30 12:34:13] jung1 : 320 wall was eaten
[2015-10-30 12:34:21] sleger : zanza: 30 min vs 2h
[2015-10-30 12:35:12] zanza : thanks sleger
[2015-10-30 12:35:57] jung1 : $6 spread?
[2015-10-30 12:36:03] zanza : thar she goes fellas
[2015-10-30 12:36:05] lockhedge : my bot shorted 900$ at XBU15Z (no liquidity there...) b/c of a misconfiguration today. was one of the best trades my bot ever did :)
[2015-10-30 12:36:26] zanza : lmao
[2015-10-30 12:36:40] jung1 : nice
[2015-10-30 12:36:52] zanza : lucky as hell
[2015-10-30 12:36:55] jung1 : 315 okcoin
[2015-10-30 12:37:29] jung1 : why there is $6 spread
[2015-10-30 12:39:29] nickhnt : man what a ride
[2015-10-30 12:39:29] kasman5 : Not huge selling volume, more upside today.
[2015-10-30 12:39:47] lockhedge : from 315 to 319 within 2 minutes...
[2015-10-30 12:42:07] habibi : any working chart for okcoin atm?
[2015-10-30 12:42:19] jung1 : https://www.okcoin.com/market.do
[2015-10-30 12:42:28] habibi : lel
[2015-10-30 12:42:34] habibi : in cny?
[2015-10-30 12:45:25] BitMEX_Wally : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dB-CXu5ECIg&feature=youtu.be&t=43m17s
[2015-10-30 12:45:29] jung1 : https://cryptowat.ch/okcoin/btccny
[2015-10-30 12:45:50] BitMEX_Wally : Ahh sorry guys, the regex replace probably should not apply to URLs
[2015-10-30 12:46:07] jung1 : its funny
[2015-10-30 12:46:09] jung1 : Im not mad
[2015-10-30 12:46:25] habibi : jung1: not working, probally okcoin api is dead for a moment
[2015-10-30 12:46:48] BitMEX_Wally : Here you go: http://tinyurl.com/oy897ny
[2015-10-30 12:47:11] BitMEX_Wally : That will re-direct to jung1's URL
[2015-10-30 12:47:22] habibi : BitMEX_Wally: as u can see last few minutes on chart are dead ;p
[2015-10-30 12:48:16] BitMEX_Wally : https://www.tradingview.com/chart/W3o0xzEq/
[2015-10-30 12:48:39] BitMEX_Wally : For some reason the BitMEX `XBT24H` chart has not been updated on TradingView for 6 days
[2015-10-30 12:52:48] jung1 : BitMEX_Wally: I think there is some error. I open long position on XBTH16 at 355$ and today I have liq. Price at 376. Yesterday it was something around 320
[2015-10-30 12:52:55] jung1 : looks like short now
[2015-10-30 12:53:34] BitMEX_Wally : Let me look into it
[2015-10-30 12:53:56] jung1 : it was like 250% profit yesterday
[2015-10-30 12:54:07] BitMEX_Wally : There is a weekly rebalance
[2015-10-30 12:54:16] BitMEX_Wally : So all PNL gets realised each Friday
[2015-10-30 12:54:39] jung1 : ah ok
[2015-10-30 12:54:44] jung1 : forgot
[2015-10-30 12:57:51] nickhnt : back to the trend?
[2015-10-30 12:58:53] zanza : china is selling
[2015-10-30 12:59:00] jung1 : yeah
[2015-10-30 12:59:35] BitMEX_Wally : jung1: Rebalancing does not change your liquidation price though. It looks like you had Isolated Margin enabled, but when you disabled it the extra margin was freed up and used for other positions
[2015-10-30 13:01:54] sleger : i say time to get long again now
[2015-10-30 13:03:24] jung1 : sleger: I will wait a bit
[2015-10-30 13:04:35] wurstgelee : yep. i dont trust it either
[2015-10-30 13:06:13] spud : BitMEX_Wally: is there a location that shows current account worth?
[2015-10-30 13:06:28] wurstgelee : top right
[2015-10-30 13:06:31] nickhnt : going long
[2015-10-30 13:06:37] BitMEX_Wally : https://www.bitmex.com/app/wallet
[2015-10-30 13:06:39] wurstgelee : also Account/Wallet ->Wallet
[2015-10-30 13:06:45] spud : Thanks guys
[2015-10-30 13:06:48] justinlooking : Wallet Balance + Unrealised PNL
[2015-10-30 13:07:07] macios15 : head and shoulders, we keep going up
[2015-10-30 13:07:33] macios15 : upside-down ofc
[2015-10-30 13:07:36] wurstgelee : no sure short term
[2015-10-30 13:07:40] wurstgelee : *t
[2015-10-30 13:08:29] mwalshe99 : tbh looks like we could pull back to the 260-270 range
[2015-10-30 13:09:04] jung1 : Im ok with that
[2015-10-30 13:09:13] mwalshe99 : me 2, nice rebuy spot
[2015-10-30 13:09:31] mwalshe99 : this 100x leverage is literally the greatest thing ever
[2015-10-30 13:09:50] justinlooking : mwalshe99: it is until it's not!
[2015-10-30 13:09:58] nickhnt : hahahaha
[2015-10-30 13:10:00] nickhnt : xD
[2015-10-30 13:10:11] donchard : were do u settle your eth price
[2015-10-30 13:10:14] mwalshe99 : justinlooking: it is aslong as you bet small compared to your bankroll
[2015-10-30 13:10:20] mwalshe99 : and always isolate
[2015-10-30 13:10:25] sleger : then its not 100x
[2015-10-30 13:10:56] mwalshe99 : anyone who goes full leverage on their entire bankroll deserves to lose their money
[2015-10-30 13:11:05] mwalshe99 : and will lose their money
[2015-10-30 13:11:51] jung1 : looks like we're going up again
[2015-10-30 13:11:59] habibi : how is calculated mark price?
[2015-10-30 13:15:00] zanza : spot + fair basis
[2015-10-30 13:20:05] mwalshe99 : there is literally one bot controlling the entire orderbook, i wonder how much money hes lost though this period
[2015-10-30 13:22:53] sleger : maybe he did not lose
[2015-10-30 13:23:08] mwalshe99 : hes definitely lost
[2015-10-30 13:23:14] mwalshe99 : bots can't win with this sort of volitility
[2015-10-30 13:23:28] mwalshe99 : market just moves through them
[2015-10-30 13:23:48] sleger : that's just wrong
[2015-10-30 13:24:04] j8 : yes that's wrong. they can be much faster than you
[2015-10-30 13:24:18] mwalshe99 : its not a buying bot, hes playing the margins with 7500 orders
[2015-10-30 13:24:37] BitMEX_Wally : If a bot can catch the liquidations it can be profitable
[2015-10-30 13:25:26] j8 : speed still matters for quoting
[2015-10-30 13:25:49] mwalshe99 : yea im not saying bots arn't profitable., just saying this one is probably getting screwed
[2015-10-30 13:27:14] Gemz : i bought 25 dec contracts at 337 but the price is now at 346, why am i at a loss?
[2015-10-30 13:27:42] Gemz : hmm my realised pnl says 0.827
[2015-10-30 13:28:16] j8 : it rebalanced at 349.64
[2015-10-30 13:28:28] BitMEX_Sam : You're at an overall profit, just down for the week
[2015-10-30 13:30:11] justinlooking : mwalshe99: the bot could be arbing against futures elsewhere, or against spot. I expect its BitMEX orders are part of a larger system
[2015-10-30 13:30:37] Gemz : i had 0.86 in available funds before going long, but now my realised pnl shows 0.827 so basically i am at a loss
[2015-10-30 13:31:21] Gemz : j8: what do u mean rebalanced at 349?
[2015-10-30 13:31:35] Gemz : i went long at 337
[2015-10-30 13:31:39] justinlooking : Gemz: do wallet balance + unrealised pnl
[2015-10-30 13:31:54] j8 : every week at settlement, the contracts that don't settle are 'rebalanced'
[2015-10-30 13:32:12] Gemz : available funds shows 0.0148
[2015-10-30 13:33:14] justinlooking : are you working other orders? they will deduct margin from AF
[2015-10-30 13:33:16] j8 : you had your unrealised profit realised at the mark price, 349.64, at 12:00 GMT
[2015-10-30 13:33:44] justinlooking : use Balance + unrealised to get your "value" based on current mark price
[2015-10-30 13:34:23] Gemz : j8: i'm overall at a loss
[2015-10-30 13:34:34] Gemz : while i went long at 337
[2015-10-30 13:34:37] Gemz : dont understand
[2015-10-30 13:34:49] j8 : maybe you're not adding it up properly?
[2015-10-30 13:35:15] Gemz : shouldnt it be available funds + realised pnl?
[2015-10-30 13:35:20] justinlooking : no
[2015-10-30 13:35:25] BitMEX_Wally : Gemz: Let me have a look at your account
[2015-10-30 13:35:32] Gemz : thanks
[2015-10-30 13:36:20] j8 : if your position is still open it has maintenance margin, which isn't in available funds
[2015-10-30 13:36:57] justinlooking : Available = Available Margin
[2015-10-30 13:38:40] jung1 : why it want from me margin requirement if I want to close my position?
[2015-10-30 13:38:56] jung1 : I cant sell my contracts
[2015-10-30 13:39:05] jung1 : or even close market
[2015-10-30 13:39:06] jung1 : wtf
[2015-10-30 13:39:15] j8 : open orders?
[2015-10-30 13:40:10] Gemz : ok my wallet balance shows 1.7372
[2015-10-30 13:40:25] jung1 : j8: +1
[2015-10-30 13:40:28] jung1 : facepalm
[2015-10-30 13:40:39] Gemz : i guess im in profit since i initialy has 0.86
[2015-10-30 13:40:49] j8 : yeah you're up 100%
[2015-10-30 13:41:05] BitMEX_Wally : Gemz: You went long at 337 and your position was rebalanced at 349.64. This means you have 0.82 Bitcoin in your wallet now as 'Settled PNL' and an unrealised loss of -0.193 Bitcoin on the position
[2015-10-30 13:41:30] BitMEX_Wally : Gemz: So in total you're up 0.634 Bitoin
[2015-10-30 13:42:08] AudibleScience : what happened to the woodchipper today? or is wisdome having issues again?
[2015-10-30 13:42:46] AudibleScience : wisdom*
[2015-10-30 13:42:47] Gemz : BitMEX_Wally: wallet balance showes 1.7372 but i initially had 0.86.. so must be more than 0.634?
[2015-10-30 13:43:55] j8 : AudibleScience: good question, even the chart on the .cn site show a flatline for the last hour
[2015-10-30 13:44:18] mwalshe99 : settlement at okc
[2015-10-30 13:44:24] mwalshe99 : takes a while
[2015-10-30 13:45:05] BitMEX_Wally : Gemz: Your wallet balance does not include unrealisedPnl (which is a loss in this case)
[2015-10-30 13:45:18] BitMEX_Wally : We are working to make the display of these PNLs simpler to understand
[2015-10-30 13:45:37] BitMEX_Wally : Basically the whole point of rebalancing is so we can let you withdraw your profits
[2015-10-30 13:46:10] Gemz : but 1 thing i dont understand, why my unrealised pnl shows negative while i went long at 337, is it because of the rebalance? did i get me long at 349.64?
[2015-10-30 13:46:58] spud : Gemz: have you clicked the wallet menu item on the left column and review the list of transactions?
[2015-10-30 13:47:04] BitMEX_Wally : Yes, everyone was 'rebalanced' at 349.64. So all the PNL up to that point is now in your wallet.
[2015-10-30 13:47:30] BitMEX_Wally : The price has come down a little since then, so we show a loss, but in total you're in profi
[2015-10-30 13:48:22] Gemz : but i didnt want to go long (rebalkance) at 349.64 lol
[2015-10-30 13:48:39] Gemz : thought my netry would stay at 337
[2015-10-30 13:48:44] Gemz : until25 dec
[2015-10-30 13:48:57] Gemz : entry*
[2015-10-30 13:49:15] BitMEX_Wally : Gemz: Your total PNL is the same before and after the rebalancing
[2015-10-30 13:49:21] Yumi : only thing that changed for you is that you can withdraw profits you earned so far
[2015-10-30 13:49:58] AudibleScience : j8: are you still getting data okay?
[2015-10-30 13:51:00] Gemz : ok now i get it thanks
[2015-10-30 13:51:16] Yumi : will XBTX15 be listed?
[2015-10-30 13:51:55] BitMEX_Wally : Yumi: Not yet, we are trying to concentrate liquidity
[2015-10-30 13:52:22] BitMEX_Wally : `XBTZ15` or `XBTH16` are listed
[2015-10-30 13:53:04] Yumi : ok thanks, just wanted to know
[2015-10-30 13:53:11] SnackyCoins : no november contract?
[2015-10-30 13:53:26] Gemz : when will my profit show in available funds? only if i exit the trade?
[2015-10-30 13:55:52] AudibleScience : macios15: you here at the moment?
[2015-10-30 13:56:10] macios15 : AudibleScience: yes, long
[2015-10-30 13:56:37] AudibleScience : nice!
[2015-10-30 13:56:59] jung1 : https://bfxdata.com/sentiment/longshort.php green mood on market
[2015-10-30 13:57:12] BitMEX_Wally : Gemz: Your margin is currently being used to fund your open position. Once you close the position you can withdraw the profit you made from 337 to 349. Any profit above that will be available next Friday
[2015-10-30 13:58:10] AudibleScience : what did you get in at and where do you think we're going today? @macios15
[2015-10-30 13:58:34] macios15 : 2300 before set i think
[2015-10-30 13:58:47] SnackyCoins : when is the next issue of bitmex trader's digest? 8)
[2015-10-30 13:58:51] macios15 : but first 2170 to pass
[2015-10-30 13:59:42] AudibleScience : Cool man! I also think we may be in for another epic high day today?
[2015-10-30 14:00:18] macios15 : AudibleScience: if its retrece we allready get that under 2000
[2015-10-30 14:02:20] AudibleScience : say that again man? not sure what you mean?
[2015-10-30 14:03:45] macios15 : we go up, if trends reveres we get 1700 cny i couple of sec
[2015-10-30 14:06:28] AudibleScience : oh... but I think we're gently moving up now... maybe... too early to know for sure... but it looks good at the moment, no?
[2015-10-30 14:07:28] macios15 : AudibleScience: yes, only pass 2170 and its good
[2015-10-30 14:07:56] AudibleScience : cool
[2015-10-30 14:08:28] macios15 : AudibleScience: plausible little retrice there i made this 1h ago
[2015-10-30 14:08:29] macios15 : http://scr.hu/3e9p/pqbaj
[2015-10-30 14:10:03] mwalshe99 : anyone from support here?
[2015-10-30 14:10:57] BitMEX_Wally : mwalshe99: Hello, how can I help?
[2015-10-30 14:11:15] mwalshe99 : BitMEX_Wally: so, i buy 3000 contracts using 0.1 btc.
[2015-10-30 14:11:28] mwalshe99 : BitMEX_Wally: the trade gets liquidated
[2015-10-30 14:11:41] mwalshe99 : BitMEX_Wally: yet my balance is now 0.25 btc down
[2015-10-30 14:11:47] mwalshe99 : BitMEX_Wally: why?
[2015-10-30 14:12:31] mwalshe99 : my trade was always isolated
[2015-10-30 14:12:49] BitMEX_Wally : You have some profit from previous trades that is withheld
[2015-10-30 14:13:01] mwalshe99 : yes
[2015-10-30 14:13:06] AudibleScience : macios15: Nice! thanks... wisdom seems okay again now too man.
[2015-10-30 14:13:14] mwalshe99 : but my entire balance is donw 0.25 after an isolated trade of only 0,1
[2015-10-30 14:13:16] mwalshe99 : why?
[2015-10-30 14:13:23] BitMEX_Wally : Let me check
[2015-10-30 14:16:14] BitMEX_Wally : You shorted 3000 contracts and were liquidated, you only lost 0.104 Bitcoin
[2015-10-30 14:16:59] BitMEX_Wally : You have 0.473 Bitcoin of profit that is withheld until settlement
[2015-10-30 14:17:01] BitMEX_Wally : https://www.bitmex.com/app/wallet
[2015-10-30 14:17:04] Mido : Hi Wally.
[2015-10-30 14:17:05] sleger : that'll teach you to short
[2015-10-30 14:17:16] mwalshe99 : my balance was at 1.25
[2015-10-30 14:17:21] mwalshe99 : before the trade now 1
[2015-10-30 14:17:27] mwalshe99 : could you confirm?
[2015-10-30 14:18:14] gaoMex : Woodchipper's order book looks thinner?
[2015-10-30 14:19:53] BitMEX_Wally : mwalshe99: Before you had your short 3000 position that was liquidated, you had another position
[2015-10-30 14:20:16] BitMEX_Wally : mwalshe99: You went short 7500 contracts and then bought back at a loss
[2015-10-30 14:20:55] BitMEX_Wally : A loss of 0.6219 Bitcoin
[2015-10-30 14:21:08] BitMEX_Wally : (if anyone wants to discuss account details in private please email support@bitmex.com)
[2015-10-30 14:21:09] mwalshe99 : dude sorry your wrong
[2015-10-30 14:21:12] mwalshe99 : that was a profit
[2015-10-30 14:21:17] mwalshe99 : a long position
[2015-10-30 14:21:46] Mido : Meow?
[2015-10-30 14:21:47] BitMEX_Wally : Sorry, it was in profit, let me check
[2015-10-30 14:21:56] mwalshe99 : no worries
[2015-10-30 14:22:05] mwalshe99 : feel free to email me so we dont take up this chat
[2015-10-30 14:22:16] mwalshe99 : im sure the system is correct i'm just struggling to find out where its gone
[2015-10-30 14:22:35] mwalshe99 : would make life allot easier if the trade history had a running balance :)
[2015-10-30 14:22:44] BitMEX_Wally : Ok that was a 7500 short, but closed out at a profit
[2015-10-30 14:22:59] mwalshe99 : wheeeyy that sounds about right
[2015-10-30 14:23:09] mwalshe99 : that should have left my balance at 1.25 right?
[2015-10-30 14:24:07] Mido : I wish there was an option to buy contracts for longer than 24h but shorter than 7 days
[2015-10-30 14:24:22] sleger : people are never happy...
[2015-10-30 14:24:35] j8 : tomorrow it will only be 6 days
[2015-10-30 14:24:38] Yumi : buy weekly, sell before expiry
[2015-10-30 14:25:39] Mido : going uuuuuup
[2015-10-30 14:27:40] mwalshe99 : BitMEX_Wally: ?
[2015-10-30 14:29:06] BitMEX_Wally : mwalshe99: At 12:00 UTC after settlement your margin balance was 0.532 XBT. Then after that short 7500 trade you made 0.597 XBT so 1.13 XBT total. Then that 3000 short which lost 0.123 XBT (I forgot to include trading fees earlier) which gives your current margin balance of 1.006 XBT
[2015-10-30 14:30:03] BitMEX_Wally : You can view your trading history here: https://www.bitmex.com/app/tradeHistory
[2015-10-30 14:30:38] BitMEX_Wally : You can add up 'Exec Cost' to get the gross PNL, and subtract 'Exec Comm' which is the fees
[2015-10-30 14:30:46] mwalshe99 : ok cool. thanks for clarifying that for me.
[2015-10-30 14:30:59] mwalshe99 : could you possibly add a balance to the trade history?
[2015-10-30 14:31:29] mwalshe99 : its a feature request, think it would be quite helpful all around
[2015-10-30 14:31:43] BitMEX_Wally : Yes it's a good idea. Then we could also add 'Realised PNL' to each trade
[2015-10-30 14:31:54] mwalshe99 : anyways, really appreciate your support. top tier service.
[2015-10-30 14:31:59] mwalshe99 : yuuup :)
[2015-10-30 14:32:09] BitMEX_Wally : Thanks for asking for us to account, we want to be transparent with all calculation
[2015-10-30 14:32:51] mwalshe99 : no worries. keep up the good work. really like the exchange. hope more liquidity starts coming through
[2015-10-30 14:34:15] BitMEX_Wally : Mido: Hi, sorry I missed you earlier
[2015-10-30 14:34:54] Mido : :P
[2015-10-30 14:35:00] Mido : I miss you too.
[2015-10-30 14:35:04] Mido : XD
[2015-10-30 14:35:18] mwalshe99 : lol
[2015-10-30 14:35:50] BitMEX_Wally : :)
[2015-10-30 14:37:55] mwalshe99 : wally how do you calculate the mark price?
[2015-10-30 14:38:06] mwalshe99 : i know its indicative settlement price + fair basis
[2015-10-30 14:38:16] mwalshe99 : but do you have any further information?
[2015-10-30 14:39:03] Mido : Wally, if I will turn off isolate margin, then real isolate margin will be all my account balance?
[2015-10-30 14:39:05] mwalshe99 : whats fair basis?
[2015-10-30 14:39:20] mwalshe99 : yes mido
[2015-10-30 14:39:27] Mido : kk
[2015-10-30 14:39:43] BitMEX_Wally : We love it when you guys answer each other's questions
[2015-10-30 14:39:49] BitMEX_Wally : Great community
[2015-10-30 14:39:55] mwalshe99 : lol
[2015-10-30 14:40:00] mwalshe99 : Wally, whats fair basis?
[2015-10-30 14:40:16] Mido : He probably did this cuz he wants you to answer his question faster :P
[2015-10-30 14:40:22] mwalshe99 : :D
[2015-10-30 14:40:42] BitMEX_Wally : Fair basis is an adjustment we make to the underlying spot price to track the futures price
[2015-10-30 14:40:55] mwalshe99 : do you have any further details on the calculation made?
[2015-10-30 14:41:04] mwalshe99 : or is it a secret? :)
[2015-10-30 14:41:44] BitMEX_Wally : No big secret, we pick a fairBasisRate such that the fairPrice is roughly the same as the last price of the future
[2015-10-30 14:41:59] mwalshe99 : ok cool
[2015-10-30 14:42:04] mwalshe99 : thanks
[2015-10-30 14:43:02] BitMEX_Wally : `fairBasis` is `indicativeSettlePrice * fairBasisRate * (expiry - now) / 365 days`
[2015-10-30 14:43:12] habibi : Unrealised profit is count = mark price as close price - realised pln ?
[2015-10-30 14:44:34] Mido : Wally, do nick colors mean anything?
[2015-10-30 14:44:41] BitMEX_Wally : habibi: Yes, unrealisedPnl is calculated using the mark price, but realisedPnl is always based on the traded or settled price
[2015-10-30 14:45:42] BitMEX_Wally : Mido: No, the colours are just so you can tell users apart at a glance
[2015-10-30 14:53:21] Murch : Hey man are you guys gonna add back volatility trading some time soon? I feel like it would be hot right now!
[2015-10-30 14:53:31] Mido : Is it possible to remove request to buy contracts for X price before someone will sell them?
[2015-10-30 14:53:39] Mido : cuz i dont see such an option
[2015-10-30 14:53:53] Mido : ok i see, active orders
[2015-10-30 14:53:56] Mido : XD
[2015-10-30 15:02:19] MarketQ : what happened to 200 x
[2015-10-30 15:02:25] MarketQ : no more ?
[2015-10-30 15:03:50] BitMEX_Wally : MarketQ: The initial margin requirement is 1% and the maintenance margin requirement is 0.5% on `XBT24H`
[2015-10-30 15:04:00] BitMEX_Sam : MarketQ: There never was 200x on opening.
[2015-10-30 15:04:10] BitMEX_Wally : So that's an opening leverage of 100x and a maximum leverage of 200x
[2015-10-30 15:06:24] Mido : wally
[2015-10-30 15:06:32] BitMEX_Wally : Hello
[2015-10-30 15:06:35] Mido : please add an option to change time zone
[2015-10-30 15:06:45] Mido : cuz bitmex shows me my time
[2015-10-30 15:07:34] Murch : Isn't it more convenient to show your time?
[2015-10-30 15:08:16] BitMEX_Wally : I'm on China time, so I see `Expiry Daily at 20:00 (12:00 UTC)`
[2015-10-30 15:08:49] Mido : No. For example today I have some money marked as withheld profit. When i asked when I will be able to withdrawn them, he said at 12.00
[2015-10-30 15:09:00] Mido : it was 13.00 in my country
[2015-10-30 15:09:11] Mido : Wally, where do you see that?
[2015-10-30 15:09:25] BitMEX_Wally : I'm on the Advanced layout
[2015-10-30 15:09:31] BitMEX_Wally : In the 'Selected Contract' widget
[2015-10-30 15:09:37] Mido : oh i see
[2015-10-30 15:09:42] Mido : i use basic layout as default
[2015-10-30 15:15:02] BitMEX_Sam : It's the same as the daily expiry time, so just look at when XBT24H expires.
[2015-10-30 15:15:44] Mido : Are you going to translate UI in the future?
[2015-10-30 15:15:47] Mido : To other languages.
[2015-10-30 15:16:38] BitMEX_Sam : Yes, that's coming
[2015-10-30 15:16:54] Mido : Any chances for Polish?
[2015-10-30 15:23:27] peasant-wizard : Looking at the XBT7D chart, am I seeing a spike right before settlement, followed by a dump?
[2015-10-30 15:37:20] Mido : guess he went home :c
[2015-10-30 15:40:10] BitMEX_Wally : peasant-wizard: Looks like just after settlement there was a trade at 335
[2015-10-30 15:40:51] BitMEX_Wally : Not much volume though
[2015-10-30 15:42:05] Mido : Wally
[2015-10-30 15:42:45] BitMEX_Wally : There's a chance for Polish language support
[2015-10-30 15:43:07] Mido : Ok
[2015-10-30 15:45:19] Murch : BitMEX_Wally: Hey do you guys plan on adding volatility contracts back any time soon?
[2015-10-30 15:46:40] BitMEX_Wally : If there's demand we will
[2015-10-30 15:46:47] BitMEX_Wally : No-one really traded them
[2015-10-30 15:46:57] Murch : How do you measure that demand now?
[2015-10-30 15:47:02] BitMEX_Wally : You asking :)
[2015-10-30 15:47:10] Murch : Haha alrighty :P
[2015-10-30 15:47:32] Murch : I just think now that the markets are moving up again there'll be more demand for it.
[2015-10-30 15:47:40] Murch : Especially since you guys have been growing hard and fast lately
[2015-10-30 15:48:41] BitMEX_Wally : Would you like `BVOL24H` or `BVOL7D`?
[2015-10-30 15:49:18] Murch : probably 24h at first, that was the one that had more action.
[2015-10-30 15:49:45] Mido : Of course they are. Who else is giving 100x-200x leverage?
[2015-10-30 15:49:48] SnackyCoins : if i could vote, i'd throw in for 24h- but if voting for more cotracts i'd like to see some more timeframes, especially on xbu
[2015-10-30 15:49:57] Murch : Thing is that people like buying volatility which they couldn't really do before during those sideways months.
[2015-10-30 15:50:43] SnackyCoins : i'd like xbu march or xbt november for example, before bvol personally
[2015-10-30 15:52:10] Murch : It takes time to build demand. I think it makes more sense to add more time frames as the earlier ones gain traction.
[2015-10-30 15:52:17] BitMEX_Wally : Yes
[2015-10-30 15:52:35] Murch : So you always gotta start with one so as to not dilute the pool.
[2015-10-30 15:54:17] SnackyCoins : it doesn't dilute it much imo
[2015-10-30 15:54:28] SnackyCoins : for example, last night i wanted to get out of my 7d but there were no buys
[2015-10-30 15:54:31] SnackyCoins : bids*
[2015-10-30 15:54:39] SnackyCoins : but there were on 24h
[2015-10-30 15:54:45] SnackyCoins : so i went short there instead
[2015-10-30 15:55:34] SnackyCoins : it would help prevent slippage to have it on one book though
[2015-10-30 15:55:47] j8 : is there any practical way to merge the books when that happens? it was pretty frustrating for people holding 7D or V15 yesterday
[2015-10-30 15:55:51] Murch : Yeah thankfully there's enough for XBT right now to get in and out of smaller positions fairly easily.
[2015-10-30 15:56:48] BitMEX_Wally : j8: We thought about not listing 7D while V15 was expiring, but they have different leverage
[2015-10-30 15:57:29] SnackyCoins : i mean, they settled at the same time so there is no real difference the way i did it, unless i paid more fees that way (no big deal)
[2015-10-30 15:57:47] SnackyCoins : no difference from having the meat on 7d vs 24h that is
[2015-10-30 15:58:04] j8 : the difference is you can run out of margin since your profit is withheld
[2015-10-30 15:58:25] SnackyCoins : ahh if i was leveraged more than halfway already i suppose so
[2015-10-30 15:58:29] j8 : and you have opposing positions both taking up margin
[2015-10-30 15:58:45] SnackyCoins : i never tend to go past 6x
[2015-10-30 15:59:14] j8 : i had a bunch of opposing positions last week with fairly low leverage, by the end of the week my account was almost entirely withheld profit
[2015-10-30 15:59:52] SnackyCoins : my acct was mostly unrealized as well :)
[2015-10-30 16:00:02] j8 : with losses cancelling some of that, but both are unavailable
[2015-10-30 16:01:24] j8 : it was interesting, i was making good net profit but my margin was shrinking and i had to take smaller positions by the end of the week
[2015-10-30 16:03:32] j8 : i would have been really screwed by DPE - which is the main reason it sucks if the liquidity disappears in the last week / day of the contract
[2015-10-30 16:05:46] SnackyCoins : looks like we made it without any though?
[2015-10-30 16:05:59] SnackyCoins : even most of okc's liquidations got picked up
[2015-10-30 16:06:04] j8 : yeah i'm impressed
[2015-10-30 16:07:35] Murch : When an isolated position gets liqudated, how much is lost? I know it's more than the initial margin placed but how much more?
[2015-10-30 16:08:17] j8 : well, the maintenance margin is 0.5%
[2015-10-30 16:08:34] Murch : So double the initial margin is lost then.
[2015-10-30 16:08:49] Murch : Yeah I'm definitely gonna stop with the 100x iso shit
[2015-10-30 16:08:52] j8 : the initial margin includes the maintenance margin
[2015-10-30 16:09:10] Murch : Oh hmm true.
[2015-10-30 16:09:15] SnackyCoins : cross margin ftw
[2015-10-30 16:09:18] j8 : but yeah the odds are against you
[2015-10-30 16:09:25] SnackyCoins : once i figured out cross margin, i quit trading on other exchanges
[2015-10-30 16:09:33] Murch : 50x is a lot but it's more manageable.
[2015-10-30 16:10:42] j8 : basically a 0.5% move against you and you lose 100%, a 0.5% move in your favour and you win 50%
[2015-10-30 16:11:43] Swedishnut : Anyone else getting the vibe from this Bull run of 10+ days that we are cementing the 300+ bottom?
[2015-10-30 16:12:05] jung1 : will be grat to make https://bfxdata.com for bitmex
[2015-10-30 16:17:02] Murch : There's no margin spot trading here though..
[2015-10-30 16:17:18] zanza : there is 100x margin trading :)
[2015-10-30 16:17:31] zanza : i agree jung1, but it seems hard to setup, may take a while
[2015-10-30 16:18:09] jung1 : its really usefull https://bfxdata.com/sentiment/longshort
[2015-10-30 16:18:52] Swedishnut : Jung1 you make my day :) Ty
[2015-10-30 16:21:05] jung1 : good to hear that
[2015-10-30 16:21:21] sleger : you have the open interest what else do you want ?
[2015-10-30 16:21:59] Swedishnut : yeah I love data more the merrier. Informed trading is the best trading :P
[2015-10-30 16:22:15] jung1 : agree
[2015-10-30 16:22:27] jung1 : and charts looks awesoome
[2015-10-30 16:22:30] jung1 : I love charts
[2015-10-30 16:22:34] jung1 : hehe
[2015-10-30 16:26:42] Swedishnut : sure would be a dream come true if the bull run keeps a trucking on at a nice pace of 3.33% a day or something for 3 months :P
[2015-10-30 16:31:31] jung1 : Well some correction to 250-260 would be ok
[2015-10-30 16:31:35] Murch : Yeah charts are awesome :D
[2015-10-30 16:32:00] jung1 : in 2016 we are going ove 1k
[2015-10-30 16:32:05] jung1 : thats for sure
[2015-10-30 16:32:05] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah those bfxdata charts are really nice.
[2015-10-30 16:32:18] BitMEX_Sam : See also our fullscreen TV chart: https://www.bitmex.com/chart?symbol=XBT24H
[2015-10-30 16:32:29] BitMEX_Sam : TradingView.com has had stale data for a while now, we've contacted them multiple times but no update yet
[2015-10-30 16:32:33] Swedishnut : yeah I think correction is definitely in the deck of possible outcomes. But the general health of the global economy is really poor and people like a currency free of failed government policies
[2015-10-30 16:34:09] Swedishnut : heck my local bank has been trying to figure out how to get my bitcoin if I die and they need to get the money to a beneficiary...
[2015-10-30 16:34:16] Murch : Well if the price is actually going to go on another big bull run I think we're still a ways off from the first real correction.
[2015-10-30 16:36:12] sleger : oh so you're saying that if the price continues to go up then it wont go down ?
[2015-10-30 16:36:21] sleger : thanks a lot for sharing that awesome insight...
[2015-10-30 16:37:57] jung1 : I think that ltc will explode to over 50$ as well
[2015-10-30 16:38:15] Swedishnut : well Bitcoin is kinda a Black hole for finance. Once fiat is seen as toilet paper there really will never be a reason to trade it for dollars. Thus it "could" never go back to a bottom if we see global collapse and BTC rise as a new "peg" like the USD did after WWII
[2015-10-30 16:38:20] jung1 : and ETH market cap will be equal to btc market cap in 2 years
[2015-10-30 16:41:03] daverich : When does a rebalance occur?
[2015-10-30 16:41:19] BitMEX_Sam : Every Friday at 12 UTC
[2015-10-30 16:41:29] BitMEX_Sam : Except for on daily contracts, where it happens effectively at expiry every day at 12 UTC
[2015-10-30 16:42:03] daverich : Ahh, was wondering. woke up this morning a bit poorer lol.
[2015-10-30 16:44:00] zanza : ETH is vaporware imo
[2015-10-30 16:44:41] jung1 : look at this chart
[2015-10-30 16:44:52] jung1 : from 0.09 to 0.017
[2015-10-30 16:45:01] jung1 : and now go up again
[2015-10-30 16:45:45] jung1 : microsoft will sponsor their devcon in london in first week of november in london
[2015-10-30 16:46:05] jung1 : I think there could be some nice news
[2015-10-30 16:46:44] Murch : Do you know what ETH enables?
[2015-10-30 16:47:00] peasant-wizard : Yeah pretty big stretch to call it vap
[2015-10-30 16:47:23] jung1 : Murch: its like internet 2.0
[2015-10-30 16:47:50] jung1 : with internet of things there's no limits basicly
[2015-10-30 16:48:41] kasman5 : Eth has a better smart contract system than Bitcoin
[2015-10-30 16:48:59] kasman5 : bitcoin is a better currency
[2015-10-30 16:49:13] jung1 : Ethereum is a decentralised blockchain protocol that executes smart contracts: applications that run exactly as programmed without any possibility of downtime, censorship, fraud or third party interference.
[2015-10-30 16:49:37] jung1 : kasman5: there;s a lot of better currencies than bitcoin
[2015-10-30 16:49:58] jung1 : bitshares, dash, monero for example
[2015-10-30 16:50:22] jung1 : I think bitcoin will be for huge trades but not for everyday use
[2015-10-30 16:52:09] laisee : monero is pretty cool.
[2015-10-30 16:52:27] kasman5 : who would accept payment in bitshares or any of them? Reality is people already accept payment for things in bitcoin, hence bitcoin is better currency.
[2015-10-30 16:52:57] jung1 : well for now but its pretty slow for everyday use
[2015-10-30 16:53:14] Swedishnut : yeah Digibyte is way faster and cheaper for example
[2015-10-30 16:53:21] laisee : EH has some good ideas but funding issues on dev side
[2015-10-30 16:53:25] jung1 : bitcoin is old now
[2015-10-30 16:53:39] kasman5 : its fast enough
[2015-10-30 16:53:55] kasman5 : sidechains will solve the problems you're talking about
[2015-10-30 16:54:04] kasman5 : they run off bitcoin
[2015-10-30 16:54:15] jung1 : yeah I konw
[2015-10-30 16:54:44] Swedishnut : altogether crypto is better money that any paper equivalent backed by pure promises
[2015-10-30 16:55:13] jung1 : thats for sure. I have whole folder of shotcoins paperwalets
