This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2016-04-18 19:31:55] sleger : carry arb is stupid, it works until it doesnt, def not worth all the risks anyways
[2016-04-18 19:32:15] arbitrage001 : sleger: that depend on vix
[2016-04-18 19:32:28] arbitrage001 : i agree carry arb now is risky
[2016-04-18 19:32:32] rapidtrades : most of us that stuck around here don't need 100/1 on bitcoin, its way too volatile
[2016-04-18 19:32:36] rapidtrades : but $$$ tlaks
[2016-04-18 19:32:39] rapidtrades : talks
[2016-04-18 19:32:40] habibi : sleger whats ur sentiment on XBTM16 is shorting right?
[2016-04-18 19:32:40] arbitrage001 : as oppose to 3 months ago
[2016-04-18 19:32:42] sleger : i was talking for someone who just enters at random times
[2016-04-18 19:38:23] avirap : Is DPE restricted to the contract in which Socialized Losses occurred? or is it socialized over all of the Speculative Contracts?
[2016-04-18 19:47:32] sleger : instead of shorting m16, everyone should buy eth
[2016-04-18 19:52:17] habibi : after u
[2016-04-18 19:55:40] BitMEX_Sam : avirap: Only the contract in which the loss occured.
[2016-04-18 20:11:55] avirap : BitMEX_Sam: thank you!
[2016-04-18 20:13:30] rapidtrades : BitMEX_Sam: hey are margin calls on ETH based on fair price or bid/ask
[2016-04-18 20:13:44] BitMEX_Sam : Mark Price
[2016-04-18 20:13:58] avirap : Is it not the case that the short dated contracts have originiated all the System Losses and not the longer dated ones?
[2016-04-18 20:14:28] BitMEX_Sam : avirap: Yes, the only two posted losses were in XBT24H so far
[2016-04-18 20:15:01] BitMEX_Sam : Sorry, need more coffee - there were some posted losses in BVOL7D, ETH7D, and XBT quarterlies in August
[2016-04-18 20:20:17] rapidtrades : BitMEX_Sam: and the trigger price for stop limits?
[2016-04-18 20:20:27] BitMEX_Sam : Same
[2016-04-18 20:20:51] BitMEX_Sam : Stops are triggered on mark price, not last price, because liquidations are also triggered on mark price
[2016-04-18 20:21:56] rapidtrades : BitMEX_Sam: so in stop limit orders the stop price is mark? some guy earlier complained that this wasn't the case
[2016-04-18 20:22:27] rapidtrades : maybe he meant for XBT
[2016-04-18 20:24:33] BitMEX_Sam : He was mistaken, the stop trigger prices have always been on mark
[2016-04-18 20:24:45] rapidtrades : BitMEX_Sam: ok tnx
[2016-04-18 20:24:52] BitMEX_Sam : Hover over the 'Stop Price' text next to the input.
[2016-04-18 20:26:27] rapidtrades : BitMEX_Sam: ah
[2016-04-18 21:30:42] nip : Is DPE shared between the XBT series for example?
[2016-04-18 21:30:49] nip : or is it separate for daily, quarterly, etc
[2016-04-18 21:31:33] urgent : Good evening folks!
[2016-04-18 21:32:25] urgent : Hope trading is going well and you happy out there.. : )
[2016-04-18 21:36:00] urgent : I have a question.
[2016-04-18 21:36:15] urgent : Somebody here?
[2016-04-18 21:39:33] rapidtrades : urgent: is it.........urgent?
[2016-04-18 21:45:15] urgent : well... not so...
[2016-04-18 21:46:11] urgent : I just cant figure out how to get the historical data...
[2016-04-18 21:47:13] urgent : As I understand it is (bitcoin contracts) all based on tradeblock index price at settlement timepoints.
[2016-04-18 21:48:23] urgent : But how can I get say minute data?
[2016-04-18 21:52:45] BitMEX_Sam : nip: Separate for each contract and expiry.
[2016-04-18 21:52:50] BitMEX_Sam : urgent: You can query the .XBT index.
[2016-04-18 22:01:07] urgent : Yes, but how to do the query?
[2016-04-18 22:09:18] BitMEX_Sam : See https://www.bitmex.com/api/explorer/#!/Trade/Trade_get
[2016-04-18 22:57:36] urgent : BitMEX_Sam: Thanks for your answer. I am trying since hours.. I dont have experience with APIs. I was always trading forex where I could get historical data as csv and analyse in calc...
[2016-04-18 22:59:49] urgent : When I input XBT for the symbol field and click the try it out button I dont get data...
[2016-04-18 23:00:03] urgent : @https://www.bitmex.com/api/explorer/#!/Trade/Trade_get
[2016-04-18 23:02:29] BitMEX_Sam : It's `.XBT`
[2016-04-18 23:03:13] urgent : true!!!!
[2016-04-18 23:03:43] urgent : The other gets me tick data?
[2016-04-18 23:04:39] BitMEX_Sam : `XBT` isn't anything, it's just a series name / the symbol for Bitcoin
[2016-04-18 23:04:52] BitMEX_Sam : There's a list of indices and contracts on the Help page
[2016-04-18 23:04:58] BitMEX_Sam : You can otherwise get them from the API as well
[2016-04-18 23:06:21] urgent : Yeah, I just see without point it gets me tick data fro,m bitstamp
[2016-04-18 23:14:37] urgent : I am on the help page half the day, right now I am a bit slow in figuring out...
[2016-04-18 23:15:03] urgent : Oh. but its a nice and useful help page, in between!!
[2016-04-18 23:15:43] urgent : And the exchange is really top!!!
[2016-04-18 23:15:57] urgent : Thanx for the work.
[2016-04-18 23:16:13] urgent : And the answers ; )
[2016-04-18 23:18:35] BitMEX_Sam : urgent: Ah right, without the `.`, `XBT` becomes `XBT:latest`
[2016-04-18 23:18:42] BitMEX_Sam : Which is an alias for `XBT24H`
[2016-04-18 23:18:54] BitMEX_Sam : Glad you like it - let me know if you have more questions.
[2016-04-18 23:23:41] urgent : So can I say: All bitcoin contracts are settled via the tradeblock index, which I can query via the get / trade query? And you probably take always the last tick to fix the minute and then to settle the hours respectively practically here the 24 hour contract (that is rolled over from the 48 hour).
[2016-04-18 23:29:29] BitMEX_Sam : All XBT contracts are settled by either `.XBT30M` or `.XBT2H` (short-dated are via 30M, long via 2H), which is based on `.XBT`
[2016-04-18 23:29:42] BitMEX_Sam : `.XBT` is the TradeBlock price, but at the end of the month we will move it to Kaiko
[2016-04-18 23:30:51] BitMEX_Sam : See https://blog.bitmex.com/crypto-trade-digest-apr-4/ for more information on how & why.
[2016-04-18 23:32:10] urgent : https://www.kaiko.com/ looks good.
[2016-04-18 23:39:17] urgent : Yet the price of .XBT30M and .XBT2H should be the same for every last period (settlement time at end of 24H contract) !?
[2016-04-18 23:45:40] urgent : Or is there a concrete different weighting which (can make the two) differ in specific points in time?
[2016-04-19 01:52:43] wij32 : do you automatically get the maker rebat if you bid/ask correctly? i.e not at market?
[2016-04-19 01:54:02] BitMEX_Arthur : wij32: Yes if your passive limit order gets filled, you automatically receive the rebate
[2016-04-19 01:54:17] BitMEX_Arthur : If you look at your trading history, you will see a negative commission number
[2016-04-19 01:54:22] BitMEX_Arthur : which means that you were paid
[2016-04-19 01:54:46] wij32 : cool
[2016-04-19 01:55:26] wij32 : if you want to be a market maker here, can you walk me through an example of the bid/ask you would need to price on the current price
[2016-04-19 01:56:04] BitMEX_Arthur : `XBT24H` , place a bid at 430.21, if someone fills your order, you get paid 0.025% of the order's value in Bitcoin
[2016-04-19 01:56:51] BitMEX_Arthur : Use the `POST-ONLY` flag on your order, and that will ensure that you never take liquidity only add, such that you will never pay a trading fee
[2016-04-19 01:58:24] wij32 : ok thanks
[2016-04-19 01:58:28] wij32 : is there a demo portal?
[2016-04-19 01:59:13] BitMEX_Arthur : https://testnet.bitmex.com
[2016-04-19 01:59:37] BitMEX_Arthur : It is exactly the same, but uses testnet bitcoin, and we demo new products and features there first
[2016-04-19 02:00:10] wij32 : you guys based in singapore?
[2016-04-19 02:01:48] wij32 : Error: API Timeout.
[2016-04-19 02:01:52] wij32 : on registering
[2016-04-19 02:04:28] wij32 : do you have any specific order types for market makers?
[2016-04-19 03:31:23] REKT : Liquidated short on `ETH7D`: Buy 2525 @ 0.02146
[2016-04-19 03:45:02] rentchev : testnet is very cool
[2016-04-19 03:48:19] rentchev : BitMEX_Arthur: I got all my orders from the trade history page. When I sum the column "Value" the results don't make sense to me.
[2016-04-19 03:48:38] rentchev : Is this supposed to give me my profit/loss?
[2016-04-19 04:01:06] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETH7D`: Sell 1500 @ 0.02125
[2016-04-19 04:04:01] kingscrown : new report for april - http://fuk.io/april-2016-report-best-cryptocurrencies-to-invest-in-or-get-out-of/
[2016-04-19 04:06:27] arbitrage001 : what happen to the order page
[2016-04-19 04:57:33] fugletest : fsafasfaf
[2016-04-19 05:26:58] smoge2 : ho
[2016-04-19 05:43:21] REKT : Liquidated short on `ETH7D`: Buy 24 @ 0.02162
[2016-04-19 05:58:17] GetMondaySunday : can you buy at 25X on margin?
[2016-04-19 08:49:23] avirap : BitMEX_Arthur: A question about DPE: when systemic losses occur, are they spread out over only the same contract which have a profit? or are they added to losses in the same contract?
[2016-04-19 08:52:09] avirap : BitMEX_Arthur: if systemic losses are greater than the sum of profits in a given contract-maturity then the additional systemic losses must be borne by others in addition: will they be borne by losing positions in the same contract? by winning positions in other contracts? Thank you.
[2016-04-19 08:53:03] avirap : This question goes out to anyone naturally thank you
[2016-04-19 09:27:24] BitMEX_Wally : avirap: It is not mathematically possible for the system loss of a contract to exceed the profits of that contract. Every loss is someone else's profit as it is zero-sum
[2016-04-19 09:29:06] BitMEX_Wally : DPE adjustments are isolated to the contract has system loss
[2016-04-19 09:33:07] avirap : Thanks Wally for clarifying after writing out an example I see you are correct about losses not exceeding profits.
[2016-04-19 09:33:28] micmix : BitMEX_Wally: hey Wally! I see that testnet has XBX and XBT. Which one is Keiko?
[2016-04-19 09:34:48] micmix : or whatever that new index was :-)
[2016-04-19 09:35:13] avirap : can you please clarify if system losses are spread over profit making positions only, or if they are spread out over profit making positions AND loss making positions (with remaining margin), i.e., added to losses? Thank you.
[2016-04-19 09:36:19] BitMEX_Wally : avirap: DPE is applied to profit, we do not increase losses
[2016-04-19 09:36:38] BitMEX_Wally : micmix: In testnet`.XBT` is Kaiko and `.XBX` is the old TradeBlock index
[2016-04-19 09:37:25] avirap : BitMEX_Wally: am I correct in my understanding that Insurance Funds take first systemic loss in any contract? I.e. Systemic losses do not lead to DPE before Insurance Fund is depleted?
[2016-04-19 09:37:30] micmix : BitMEX_Wally: thanks, how are you going to handle the switch on live? .XBT
[2016-04-19 09:37:58] micmix : .XBT will become Keiko on Apr 29?
[2016-04-19 09:38:32] BitMEX_Wally : micmix: Correct
[2016-04-19 09:39:08] micmix : will you continue to provide tradeblock index as .XBX?
[2016-04-19 09:39:21] BitMEX_Wally : avirap: Yes, the insurance fund that for that contract is depleted first before applying DPE
[2016-04-19 09:39:40] BitMEX_Wally : micmix: Probably not
[2016-04-19 09:40:36] micmix : BitMEX_Wally: ok, thanks. any chance you could add eth 24h volatility index? I think I already asked before
[2016-04-19 09:41:29] BitMEX_Wally : No plans for ETH volatility index yet, but you could probably tweak our Excel spreadsheets to calculate it
[2016-04-19 09:41:34] avirap : BitMEX_Wally: Insurance Fund is segregated into pools set aside for each contract? If so, is it possible to calculated what is the maximal systemic loss in a given contract before DPE?
[2016-04-19 09:42:47] BitMEX_Wally : avirap: I need to expose a breakdown of the fund by contract first
[2016-04-19 09:43:45] avirap : BitMEX_Wally: right. Will you do that?
[2016-04-19 09:43:50] micmix : BitMEX_Wally: I can definitely calculate it myself but would be nice to get it from the API like for XBT
[2016-04-19 09:44:46] BitMEX_Wally : Yes after we get the P2P swaps launched I'll work on adding it to the API
[2016-04-19 09:45:12] micmix : BitMEX_Wally: thanks Wally, much appreciated!
[2016-04-19 09:48:21] Sylenth : привет
[2016-04-19 09:48:32] Sylenth : че за биржа?
[2016-04-19 10:18:27] avirap : BitMEX_Wally: can you please give an indication on what is the assumed (by the insurance fund) system loss rate in the quarterly contracts? E.g. 5% per quarter DPE. Thank you very much.
[2016-04-19 10:20:18] avirap : I.e. XBTM16 XBTU16 and the ones that will follow i.e. In general for these maturities and maximum leverage as defined
[2016-04-19 11:33:57] BitMEX_Arthur : avirap: Not sure I understand the question
[2016-04-19 11:34:13] BitMEX_Arthur : The absolute maximum leverage is defined by the maintenance margin %
[2016-04-19 11:34:27] BitMEX_Arthur : E.G. 1% maintenance margin equates to maximum leverage of 100x
[2016-04-19 11:34:48] BitMEX_Arthur : if you cross that threshold, your position is liquidated
[2016-04-19 11:44:02] avirap : BitMEX_Arthur: I am way past this in my attempt to figure out BitMex
[2016-04-19 11:44:38] avirap : i am asking about what is the expected DPE on a quarterly contract
[2016-04-19 11:45:02] BitMEX_Arthur : no one knows that
[2016-04-19 11:45:30] avirap : there must be an assumption made in the Insurance Fund
[2016-04-19 11:45:53] avirap : according to which funds are set aside to cover system losses in quarterly contracts
[2016-04-19 11:46:08] BitMEX_Arthur : There is no assumption
[2016-04-19 11:46:14] avirap : as my understanding is that the insurance fund is segregated
[2016-04-19 11:46:35] avirap : and funds are designated to cover losses in separate contracts
[2016-04-19 11:46:55] BitMEX_Arthur : You can't predict the future open interest at the time the contract rebalances and a possible profit adjustment is applied
[2016-04-19 11:48:01] avirap : so can you please explain how funds are accumulated in the insurance fund then designated to each contract? or are they pooled together to cover losses in any contract as they occur (previous BitMex mod said the former is the case)
[2016-04-19 11:48:53] BitMEX_Arthur : The funds are accumulated as liquidations are closed out better than the bankruptcy price on a particular contract
[2016-04-19 11:49:29] avirap : I see. Interesting.
[2016-04-19 11:49:53] avirap : is it possible to publish the breakdown of insurance fund assets per contract?
[2016-04-19 11:50:02] avirap : this would be extremely helpful
[2016-04-19 11:50:52] BitMEX_Arthur : As Wally mentioned, it is on the dev list after our new P2P swap product is finished
[2016-04-19 11:52:24] avirap : GOT it!
[2016-04-19 11:53:01] avirap : would definitely be a big step in transparency thank you
[2016-04-19 11:56:56] giovannicontini : How do I see the price of btc at which I subscribe to xbt24h contracts?
[2016-04-19 11:57:30] giovannicontini : I only see it AFTER I male the order...
[2016-04-19 12:20:29] rapidtrades : giovannicontini: wat
[2016-04-19 12:27:00] BitMEX_Arthur : giovannicontini: The Limit Price is the price at which you buy or sell `XBT24H`
[2016-04-19 12:27:13] BitMEX_Arthur : If you choose a `Market Order1` it will be the prevailing market price for the quantity you input
[2016-04-19 12:31:02] tscha : when will p2p swaps roll out approximately?
[2016-04-19 12:31:12] tscha : rough estimate
[2016-04-19 12:31:17] BitMEX_Arthur : tscha: a few weeks
[2016-04-19 12:31:22] tscha : kk tx
[2016-04-19 12:31:38] BitMEX_Arthur : tscha: Any feedback on the product
[2016-04-19 12:31:44] BitMEX_Arthur : We want to make sure we have all the bases covered
[2016-04-19 12:33:55] tscha : just read about it 1 minute ago, but sounds good. Will definitely be good for the business (volumewise) to simplify things for bitcoiners
[2016-04-19 12:34:22] habibi : BitMEX_Arthur: fees will remain the same?
[2016-04-19 12:35:00] tscha : havent really thought about the details yet, and have to go again, but will give some feedback in some weeks before it rolls out (hopefully)
[2016-04-19 12:35:01] tscha : cya
[2016-04-19 12:54:17] BitMEX_Arthur : habibi: Yes same fees
[2016-04-19 13:42:44] sleger : BitMEX_Arthur: are you going to reduce the leverage from 100x to 3 or 5x with the p2p swaps ?
[2016-04-19 13:43:09] sleger : or for ether from 25x to 3x ?
[2016-04-19 14:53:23] rapidtrades : sleger: how's it going frenchie
[2016-04-19 14:53:37] sleger : good, whatsup ?
[2016-04-19 14:55:11] rapidtrades : sleger: nm
[2016-04-19 15:49:46] vkvk : BitMEX_Arthur: what framework did you use for the UI of the website? flex?
[2016-04-19 15:49:58] arbitrage001 : how does the p2p swaps work without expiring?
[2016-04-19 15:50:24] arbitrage001 : this mean 3 month and 6 month contract will be gone?
[2016-04-19 15:51:25] BitMEX_Sam : vkvk: React
[2016-04-19 15:51:47] BitMEX_Sam : arbitrage001: We don't yet have plans to move the p2p swap to XBT, but if/when we do, the existing futures will remain until expiry
[2016-04-19 15:52:26] arbitrage001 : BitMEX_Sam: okk thank you
[2016-04-19 15:52:40] arbitrage001 : dont yet know how p2p work
[2016-04-19 15:54:05] vkvk : BitMEX_Sam: thanks
[2016-04-19 16:38:57] sleger : BitMEX_Sam: what will the leverage on eth become once it moves to p2p swaps ?
[2016-04-19 16:39:10] BitMEX_Sam : I am not certain, but it is likely it will remain as-is
[2016-04-19 16:39:53] sleger : but funding costs will be based on polo lending cost ?
[2016-04-19 16:40:10] BitMEX_Sam : Yes.
[2016-04-19 16:40:26] sleger : but lending fees are leverage dependent
[2016-04-19 16:40:59] sleger : in my opinion applying same fees as polo (which has 3x leverage) to here with 25x leverage does not make sense
[2016-04-19 16:41:56] BitMEX_Sam : Let me check with Arthur & Wally on what the plan is with that - I am not intimately involved in the development in this product, I'm currently working on other features
[2016-04-19 16:42:12] BitMEX_Sam : I appreciate the feedback.
[2016-04-19 16:42:27] sleger : what you said is what I understood from the newsletter. IMO it is a mistake
[2016-04-19 16:43:14] BitMEX_Sam : What rate would you use?
[2016-04-19 16:44:39] sleger : i dont know, i wasnt the one who thought about switching away from futures
[2016-04-19 17:07:39] rapidtrades : sleger: what do i use for backtesting options?
[2016-04-19 17:08:06] sleger : i write my own code but obviously you cant use that, so i dont know
[2016-04-19 17:08:24] rapidtrades : sleger: where u get the data from?
[2016-04-19 17:08:32] sleger : i record it myself
[2016-04-19 17:08:36] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETH7D`: Sell 488 @ 0.02095
[2016-04-19 17:08:45] rapidtrades : from ur brokerage or?
[2016-04-19 17:09:11] sleger : you're talking about bitcoin ?
[2016-04-19 17:09:19] rapidtrades : i said options lol
[2016-04-19 17:09:31] sleger : i thought you meant options for backtesting
[2016-04-19 17:09:35] rapidtrades : on spy, fxe for example
[2016-04-19 17:10:00] sleger : interactive brokers lets you query historical data
[2016-04-19 17:10:40] rapidtrades : sleger: ok i'll try that
[2016-04-19 17:11:05] sleger : otherwise you have to buy them from tick providers which is the better option but isnt cheap
[2016-04-19 17:11:49] rapidtrades : sleger: i think theirs goes back 5 or was it 10 yrs
[2016-04-19 17:11:54] rapidtrades : 5 i think
[2016-04-19 17:13:06] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETH7D`: Sell 7 @ 0.02091
[2016-04-19 17:14:32] rapidtrades : sleger: so how many different strategy types are u running now?
[2016-04-19 17:14:56] sleger : on options ?
[2016-04-19 17:15:19] rapidtrades : sleger: no in general across everything
[2016-04-19 17:15:29] sleger : maybe 20-30
[2016-04-19 17:16:30] rapidtrades : sleger:meant more like what type...trends, mean reversion, market making, arbitrage etc....or are they all unique
[2016-04-19 17:18:57] sleger : too much infomation
[2016-04-19 17:20:46] rapidtrades : really....for example if ur trading 3 mean reversion and 1 MM you would have 2 types
[2016-04-19 17:21:32] rapidtrades : so how many different types do u have...that's all im asking :)
[2016-04-19 17:23:14] sleger : i dont think they can be generalized into types for most of them
[2016-04-19 17:23:30] rapidtrades : sleger: ah i see
[2016-04-19 17:23:51] sleger : i dont run any mean reversion pure strategy for instance
[2016-04-19 17:24:50] rapidtrades : yeah those are a problem for me too...hard to find good ones
[2016-04-19 18:56:31] j8 : i still don't see much reason these swaps should track the underlying price.
[2016-04-19 18:57:46] j8 : the only reasons being collective expectation, and the fact that 0 premium is where longs and shorts get the same leverage
[2016-04-19 19:06:57] rapidtrades : j8: tmi dude, tmi
[2016-04-19 19:12:41] rapidtrades : sleger: how long have u been trading?
[2016-04-19 19:13:00] nip : i hope they launch these swaps soon
[2016-04-19 19:13:05] sleger : >10y
[2016-04-19 19:13:14] nip : i have to roll my eth every week
[2016-04-19 19:13:29] nip : afraid i will miss the big pump before i can reopen my position
[2016-04-19 19:14:05] nip : (i have been asking for weeks for longer eth contracts)
[2016-04-19 19:29:10] sleger : dont worry you wont miss anything :p
[2016-04-19 19:36:27] rapidtrades : u won't miss a pump amirite keke
[2016-04-19 19:36:54] arbitrage001 : you guys dont think there will be another alt coin to replace btc in the future?
[2016-04-19 19:38:15] rapidtrades : nope
[2016-04-19 19:41:09] mrp1nk : good night gentlemens
[2016-04-19 19:42:57] arbitrage001 : btc is still crypto 1.0
[2016-04-19 19:50:01] nip : eth is 2.9
[2016-04-19 19:50:13] nip : many revisions added features
[2016-04-19 19:51:46] sleger : who is "using" eth ?
[2016-04-19 20:07:19] rapidtrades : damit i gotta learn python

[2016-04-19 20:30:06] sleger : no because i think you just want to see if I will do it and you wont trade on it

[2016-04-19 20:32:53] sleger : 535 for 8k
[2016-04-19 20:32:55] BitMEX_Sam : gielbier: You should be able to just click it, and it will open

[2016-04-19 20:37:16] wurstgelee : habibi: smelling the pump, hm? ;)
[2016-04-19 20:37:23] habibi : yea kinda

[2016-04-19 20:37:33] wurstgelee : same
[2016-04-19 20:37:55] mrp1nk : feels like it's time™
[2016-04-19 20:37:58] wurstgelee : and just as i type that, bitcoinchecker hits
[2016-04-19 20:38:00] sleger : habibi: nothing below 535 and maybe even more now
[2016-04-19 20:38:02] wurstgelee : alarm :)
[2016-04-19 20:38:53] wurstgelee : habibi: i guess 535 is off now ;)

[2016-04-19 20:41:56] BitMEX_Sam : Biggest vol candle in 2 days
[2016-04-19 20:42:11] rapidtrades : BitMEX_Sam: DON'T JINX IT
[2016-04-19 20:43:18] arbitrage001 : btc to 500
[2016-04-19 20:43:24] arbitrage001 : wooo
[2016-04-19 20:50:42] gielbier : i think bitcoinwisdom 1w chart says it all
[2016-04-19 20:55:23] rapidtrades : gielbier: why did u login? are u fomoing?
[2016-04-19 21:03:54] urgent : I still dont understand why the BitMEX .XBT30M differs substantially from . XBT on which it is based on?
[2016-04-19 21:05:03] migz : manipulation? lol
[2016-04-19 21:05:45] j8 : urgent: it's a 30 minute rolling average
[2016-04-19 21:05:53] urgent : Actually what I dont understand is why the .XBT differs so much from the XBX price?
[2016-04-19 21:06:52] j8 : .XBT is XBX, unless you're looking at testnet
[2016-04-19 21:07:46] urgent : No. But I think there is a delay (coming from tradeblock)
[2016-04-19 21:08:09] urgent : I mean yes? but...
[2016-04-19 21:08:52] urgent : So if I want to do some testing.
[2016-04-19 21:09:13] rapidtrades : omg...i think we have liftoff boys
[2016-04-19 21:11:04] urgent : Can I just work with .XBT/XBX or do I need to retrieve other index settlements via API/forms (for bitcoin future only)
[2016-04-19 21:13:22] j8 : urgent: .XBT is an instantaneous price index. the actual settlement price will be .XBT30M or .XBT2H, which are averages of .XBT over 30 minutes or 120 minutes
[2016-04-19 21:13:46] urgent : OK, I see.
[2016-04-19 21:14:29] j8 : what are you trying to do? the averaging mostly matters if you're trading right before settlement
[2016-04-19 21:14:58] urgent : So for backtesting I need to get .XBT30M to resimulate the daily fluctuations?
[2016-04-19 21:16:44] j8 : for intraday trading, you would want to use .XBT
[2016-04-19 21:16:58] j8 : otherwise you're lagging the market
[2016-04-19 21:18:17] urgent : True. But when contract settles, then the averaged index price will count?
[2016-04-19 21:18:24] j8 : yes
[2016-04-19 21:19:31] rapidtrades : moveeeeeeeeeeeeee
[2016-04-19 21:20:33] urgent : So practically: how can I get historical f.e. minute data for .XBT30M?
[2016-04-19 21:20:44] j8 : keep in mind bitmex is only using XBX until april 29th, a lot of people have issues with XBX and it's probably not great for backtesting
[2016-04-19 21:21:10] urgent : j8: THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR POINTED ANSWERS in between
[2016-04-19 21:21:23] j8 : no prob
[2016-04-19 21:22:34] podizzler3000 : nip why not just use mobile alerts on twitter
[2016-04-19 21:22:49] podizzler3000 : whoops i just responded to something from about 4 days ago
[2016-04-19 21:22:50] podizzler3000 : heh
[2016-04-19 21:23:24] urgent : I hope kaiko will be more transparent and reliable.. and not lagging...
[2016-04-19 21:26:43] urgent : https://market.mashape.com/kaiko/kaiko-bitmex-price-index
[2016-04-19 21:27:01] j8 : urgent: i think for `.XBT30M` and `.XBT2H` the api only has daily historical data. but you can use 1-minute bins of `.XBT` and do a 30 MA or 120 MA
[2016-04-19 21:28:35] urgent : Would you use a Simple MA ?
[2016-04-19 21:28:42] j8 : yes
[2016-04-19 21:29:55] urgent : Thats the best solution I see now. Big thanks again j8!
[2016-04-19 21:30:30] j8 : cool
[2016-04-19 21:31:56] j8 : kaiko will be much better, and you can easily calculate it yourself from exchange data
[2016-04-19 21:33:11] wurstgelee : did bitstamp die?
[2016-04-19 21:33:32] urgent : not officially
[2016-04-19 22:06:27] nip : podizzler3000: even though its 4 days ago what do you mean mobile alerts on twitter?

[2016-04-19 23:18:27] habibi : miramm1115: its ur lifetime chance :)
[2016-04-19 23:19:42] miramm1115 : habibi: IMHO the premium is too high to long but too low to short
[2016-04-19 23:20:17] habibi : yea yea, so dont do nothing
[2016-04-19 23:21:22] miramm1115 : the market is working as intended :-)

[2016-04-19 23:24:04] habibi : whoo da fuck sold at 355?
[2016-04-19 23:24:10] habibi : yea, sorry just noticed
[2016-04-19 23:27:17] habibi : someone got 4btc for free
[2016-04-19 23:29:42] sleger : these trades should be busted
[2016-04-19 23:30:17] habibi : sleger what u mean by busted?
[2016-04-19 23:30:29] sleger : cxled
[2016-04-19 23:30:49] habibi : why?
[2016-04-19 23:30:54] habibi : and it was u?
[2016-04-19 23:31:09] sleger : no
[2016-04-19 23:31:16] sleger : because they're off market
[2016-04-19 23:31:37] habibi : 343.80 is down edge
[2016-04-19 23:31:47] habibi : everything above is legit trade
[2016-04-19 23:32:27] sleger : depends on your twisted interpretation of "legit"
[2016-04-19 23:32:38] sleger : but off market trades get busted everyday on real equity exchanges
[2016-04-19 23:33:03] sleger : 10 points off maybe but thats clearly a mistake
[2016-04-19 23:33:04] miramm1115 : BitMEX should have tighter limits on XBU
[2016-04-19 23:33:05] habibi : i know one good exchange for u, gemini
[2016-04-19 23:33:32] sleger : i know it too but its not for me anyways, i wasnt part of either side of the trade I already told you
[2016-04-19 23:33:37] habibi : how many times u or ur bots made money here on peoples mistakes?
[2016-04-19 23:33:47] sleger : 100times a day so what
[2016-04-19 23:34:08] habibi : same logic, if its mistake then reverse trade coz why not?
[2016-04-19 23:34:42] sleger : nyse doesnt revert trades when people lose money, but they reverse off market trades, do you understand the difference ?
[2016-04-19 23:35:00] sleger : maybe (just maybe) they thought about these rules a bit more than bitcoin exchanges...
[2016-04-19 23:35:19] habibi : totally, but part with " its clearly a mistake" made me to write upper sentence
[2016-04-19 23:35:55] sleger : you dont think it s a mistake honestly ?
[2016-04-19 23:36:00] j8 : it was my fat finger, i'll admit it :(
[2016-04-19 23:36:09] habibi : of course it is sleger
[2016-04-19 23:36:23] sleger : exactly, plus j8 is a nice guy these trades should be busted
[2016-04-19 23:36:34] sleger : habibi: well so then no need to argue
[2016-04-19 23:36:49] miramm1115 : j8: really sorry to hear that :-( lost about 5 coins?
[2016-04-19 23:36:59] j8 : yeah whoops
[2016-04-19 23:37:26] sleger : and it s a shame, there should be a huge warning saying "CAREFUL your order is 20% off market are you really really 110% sure? "
[2016-04-19 23:37:44] miramm1115 : yep, plus tighter up/down limits would help
[2016-04-19 23:37:55] viptrader : ETH looks like it wanna go back to 207
[2016-04-19 23:37:56] habibi : j8: u should def got message
[2016-04-19 23:38:00] habibi : didnt u ?
[2016-04-19 23:38:00] viptrader : before more dumps
[2016-04-19 23:38:42] j8 : habibi: i have normal limit order confirmations off, but "fat finger protection" on
[2016-04-19 23:39:00] j8 : however i'm guessing it's based on the book, and that was best bid
[2016-04-19 23:39:08] j8 : so no help
[2016-04-19 23:39:36] sleger : if the exchange cant guarantee liquidity they should offer more protection or cancel those trades
[2016-04-19 23:40:47] habibi : ah sorry then for ur loss but i dont agree with sleger, its huge consensus that would make people asks for reverse every time they make mistake
[2016-04-19 23:40:59] miramm1115 : j8: I doubt BitMEX will reverse the trade, it sets but precedent but I'm ok with giving back the profit if they decide to reverse
[2016-04-19 23:41:15] j8 : miramm1115: was your bids?
[2016-04-19 23:41:16] miramm1115 : *bad precedent
[2016-04-19 23:41:22] sleger : no clear rule would be better, x% off market huge warning, this x should be based off fair price for instance
[2016-04-19 23:41:34] miramm1115 : j8: main MM plus mine
[2016-04-19 23:42:14] sleger : main MM doesnt quote off market
[2016-04-19 23:42:16] habibi : but if the win side has nothing against it just do it between urselfs
[2016-04-19 23:42:45] miramm1115 : 50 @ $355.98 was main MM, I'm pretty sure
[2016-04-19 23:42:59] j8 : i wasn't gonna ask for it to be reversed, but definitely that supposed "fat finger protection" needs some work. and yeah maybe a clear rule for reversals
[2016-04-19 23:43:09] BitMEX_Sam : It's intentionally based off best bid/offer because contracts often trade off mark for period of time - if it were based on markPrice, the dialog could trigger more often than necessary
[2016-04-19 23:43:33] sleger : xbu trades rarely 10% off mark
[2016-04-19 23:43:40] sleger : rarely = never ?
[2016-04-19 23:44:14] BitMEX_Arthur : Just to clarify everyone, that `XBU7D` trade will not be reversed
[2016-04-19 23:44:19] BitMEX_Sam : I'm sorry to see this happen, but we can't predict every mistake that could occur - I'll add some additional logic at a higher spread for markPrice to attempt to catch this kind of thing, but we can't catch them all.
[2016-04-19 23:44:35] sleger : but this one was extremely obvious to catch
[2016-04-19 23:47:07] sleger : why would all real exchanges (CME. NYSE etc...) bust this trade but you think bitmex should not ? @BitMEX_Arthur
[2016-04-19 23:47:43] miramm1115 : BitMEX_Arthur: no reversal of trades ever, correct? maybe set a bit tighter up/down limits while the liquidity is low
[2016-04-19 23:48:23] BitMEX_Arthur : miramm1115: Where there is no technical fault of BitMEX we will not bust trades
[2016-04-19 23:48:37] miramm1115 : yes, I understand
[2016-04-20 00:47:31] smoge2 : Transact Status confirm .... 10 hour...
[2016-04-20 00:48:11] smoge2 : how long compleated
[2016-04-20 00:49:19] BitMEX_Sam : smoge2: We process withdrawals once a day at 13 UTC
[2016-04-20 00:49:29] BitMEX_Sam : This is outlined on the Withdrawal page, on the confirmation page, and in the confirmation email
[2016-04-20 00:49:41] BitMEX_Sam : See also https://www.bitmex.com/app/security
[2016-04-20 00:50:46] smoge2 : okay
[2016-04-20 00:51:12] smoge2 : I'll wait.
[2016-04-20 00:54:26] smoge2 : what time is it now?
[2016-04-20 01:16:23] BitMEX_Sam : 1:16
[2016-04-20 01:20:02] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBT24H`: Sell 5000 @ 435.85
[2016-04-20 02:12:09] rentchev : Hi BitMEX_Sam
[2016-04-20 02:14:42] BitMEX_Sam : Hi rentchev
[2016-04-20 02:15:57] rentchev : I have a question
[2016-04-20 02:16:41] rentchev : Looking at my trading history if I look at the Value column
[2016-04-20 02:17:02] rentchev : can I sum up all the XBT amoutns and get my profit/loss
[2016-04-20 02:38:30] BitMEX_Sam : rentchev: Yes, that should be correct, let me make sure there aren't any transaction types missing that may be throwing off the numbers
[2016-04-20 02:44:29] migz : How much time i need to wait before witdhraw process?
[2016-04-20 02:47:55] migz : Oh shit. 13UTC, 10hours from now. Oh boy.
[2016-04-20 03:00:12] rentchev : BitMEX_Sam: I downloaded the CSV and try to sum up, but the total do not make any sense
[2016-04-20 03:06:03] j8 : rentchev: you would actually get pnl plus change in position
[2016-04-20 03:15:38] rentchev : I get this number: 1367205600
[2016-04-20 03:16:01] rentchev : first of all it should be negative as you said
[2016-04-20 03:16:31] rentchev : because I know I doubled my balance
[2016-04-20 03:16:53] rentchev : j8: what am I missing
[2016-04-20 03:17:09] j8 : oh also it's in satoshis
[2016-04-20 03:17:46] rentchev : so I should divide by 1,000,000?
[2016-04-20 03:17:53] j8 : 100,000,000
[2016-04-20 03:18:34] rentchev : I get 13.67
[2016-04-20 03:18:47] rentchev : so this number does not make sense
[2016-04-20 03:18:52] j8 : so you would also have to subtract your position notional.. its a pain
[2016-04-20 03:19:17] rentchev : what do you mean
[2016-04-20 03:20:07] j8 : if you're summing from the start of your account, and you have open positions still, then you added the value of the position but you'll subtract a similar value when you close it
[2016-04-20 03:20:28] rentchev : ah yes
[2016-04-20 03:20:33] rentchev : I have one open position
[2016-04-20 03:20:56] rentchev : 19 XBT
[2016-04-20 03:21:32] j8 : so more likely it's the sum minus 19, minus the sum of the commissions column
[2016-04-20 03:21:50] rentchev : now I am getting somewhere
[2016-04-20 03:21:58] rentchev : thanks for your help j8
[2016-04-20 03:22:03] j8 : np
[2016-04-20 03:22:30] rentchev : I want to see how much I've made from commissions
[2016-04-20 03:22:33] rentchev : :-)
[2016-04-20 03:24:09] rentchev : turns out I've paid 0.25 BTC in commissions
[2016-04-20 03:24:19] j8 : oh yeah, negative is positive btw
[2016-04-20 03:24:44] j8 : negative fee means paid to you
[2016-04-20 03:24:56] rentchev : I thought I am at a profit, but it makes sense that I am not because the commissions I pay are 3x higher than what I get paid
[2016-04-20 03:25:22] rentchev : so overal 0.25 BTC is not bad at all
[2016-04-20 04:34:01] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBTM16`: Buy 21 @ 478.98
[2016-04-20 04:51:59] wildc : if i buy 15x and 25x margins, it displays the same amount of contracts, do i sell them all at the same leverage
[2016-04-20 04:54:27] BitMEX_Arthur : wildc: You specify the leverage at the position level, not per order
[2016-04-20 04:54:50] BitMEX_Arthur : When you adjust the leverage slider, it adjusts the effective leverage for your entire position on that contract
[2016-04-20 04:57:11] wildc : when i slide the leverage slider, which position do i close with 25x or 15x
[2016-04-20 04:57:25] wildc : i already bought the contracts
[2016-04-20 04:58:09] wildc : of 15x and 2
[2016-04-20 04:58:21] wildc : 25x
[2016-04-20 04:58:37] BitMEX_Arthur : Increasing the leverage means that less of your funds will be used to against the position if it goes against you
[2016-04-20 04:59:36] wildc : ok i think i get it im used to okc futures
[2016-04-20 05:04:20] wildc : so if i buy 25x and 15x leverage of the same coin, it becomes mixed between those 2 so around 20x leverage?
[2016-04-20 05:08:02] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBT24H`: Buy 200 @ 437.17

[2016-04-20 07:26:20] Samirum : Why i can't use withheld profit for trade @j8
[2016-04-20 07:27:52] j8 : Samirum: mostly because it could lead to much bigger socialized losses. but you do get part of it unlocked once in a while
[2016-04-20 07:30:40] micmix : j8 never sleeps :-)
[2016-04-20 07:31:25] j8 : lol its true. i really should

[2016-04-20 07:48:22] micmix : j8: oh hi neighbor! then you really need to sleep, 4am here
[2016-04-20 07:48:49] micmix : moving to west coast?
[2016-04-20 07:49:09] j8 : possibly, still figuring that out
[2016-04-20 07:50:44] j8 : maybe go on a road trip and land somewhere
[2016-04-20 07:51:17] micmix : nice, sounds like a good plan
[2016-04-20 07:52:08] micmix : as long as you don't end up in the states. no BitMEX access over there ;-)
[2016-04-20 07:52:50] j8 : yeah that occurred to me.. what a hostile place
[2016-04-20 07:57:40] micmix : used to live there, some places are really nice
[2016-04-20 07:58:17] micmix : but government regulations sucks
