This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2016-04-20 15:45:23] mrp1nk : yep, just saw it beeing pulled
[2016-04-20 15:51:05] rapidtrades : if we break $4450 there will be some FECKING FIREWORKS FELLLAS
[2016-04-20 15:51:14] rapidtrades : meant $450 obv
[2016-04-20 16:03:18] Samirum : habibi:
[2016-04-20 16:03:43] habibi : Samirum:
[2016-04-20 16:05:06] Samirum : Are the fake wall gone? @habibi
[2016-04-20 16:05:28] habibi : check it urself https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/bitfinex/btcusd

[2016-04-20 16:06:50] mrp1nk : bitcoin feels great again
[2016-04-20 16:07:22] habibi : Samirum: fake wall is what i call big wall pulled
[2016-04-20 16:07:31] Samirum : mrp1nk: bitcoin is always great

[2016-04-20 16:26:17] habibi : not really imo, two things to watch out are news and btc dumping, the action like we had after we dive to 1970 then up to 22 probally won't happen again in same range as there are tons of bagholders ready to sell off on that kind of pump
[2016-04-20 16:26:50] rapidtrades : habibi: oh...there was a eth pump? i must've missed it
[2016-04-20 16:27:02] rapidtrades : then again i trade daily charts so....
[2016-04-20 16:27:25] habibi : rapidtrades: yea, nothing to worry about if u shorting in longer time frames imo

[2016-04-20 16:29:54] mrp1nk : i was also tempted to short it, but didn't
[2016-04-20 16:30:02] habibi : yea that was awsome :) people ideas was its agressive accumulation before the news but at the end nothing like that happened :)
[2016-04-20 16:30:16] mrp1nk : #tole
[2016-04-20 16:30:26] mrp1nk : #toldya
[2016-04-20 16:31:03] mrp1nk : buy the rumor, sell the news as always
[2016-04-20 16:32:12] habibi : yea, love that pleb on eth is still dreaming about new highs but they dont realize there is no new money coming into
[2016-04-20 16:33:18] rentchev : The June XBT contract not appreciating as much as Friday contract

[2016-04-20 16:55:25] mrp1nk : muddafuckaz
[2016-04-20 16:55:51] rapidtrades : what are u even saying....

[2016-04-20 16:59:03] rapidtrades : all of these US stock/futures platforms looks like shit man
[2016-04-20 16:59:20] rapidtrades : takes ages to update, update every time u start. what utter garbage
[2016-04-20 16:59:32] rapidtrades : installing updates....yeah f u
[2016-04-20 16:59:55] BitMEX_Greg : Anyone shorting this?
[2016-04-20 17:00:14] mrp1nk : lel
[2016-04-20 17:00:26] rapidtrades : last short was 30 mins ago at 441

[2016-04-20 17:03:23] rapidtrades : we haven't broken 450
[2016-04-20 17:03:38] mrp1nk : lets break 2880-2900 and the fomo will start
[2016-04-20 17:04:33] rapidtrades : stupid finex still thinks its a futures platform
[2016-04-20 17:04:38] rapidtrades : srsly, get cancer
[2016-04-20 17:04:42] mrp1nk : but - i'm not sure if we break 500. but i would be perfectly fine with 490
[2016-04-20 17:05:06] rapidtrades : mrp1nk: look at u, so fecking modest
[2016-04-20 17:05:07] BitMEX_Greg : I don't trade on BitMEX, although I don't have any informational advantage I still don't want to in case of any conflict on interest. I pretty much just trade spot
[2016-04-20 17:05:30] BitMEX_Greg : 2900 break would be nice
[2016-04-20 17:06:04] habibi : 450 finex will be nice already on finex
[2016-04-20 17:06:16] rapidtrades : habibi: shut up hajibi
[2016-04-20 17:06:25] rapidtrades : finex needs to back the f down
[2016-04-20 17:07:21] thehawthorne : raptra goes mad

[2016-04-20 17:07:35] BitMEX_Greg : finex has been leading past few days, with stamp trailing. stamp seems to be catching up. BTC-E still lagging behing
[2016-04-20 17:08:11] habibi : bitmex is leading this rally! i bet everyone is watching 24h here for comfirmation :D
[2016-04-20 17:42:39] rentchev : my XBTM16 are loving this rally the last 2 days :-)
[2016-04-20 17:45:32] j8 : rentchev: could be great if some of these 420k contracts short start getting stopped out
[2016-04-20 17:46:12] rentchev : yes
[2016-04-20 17:46:22] rentchev : I think very short term we get another pullback
[2016-04-20 17:46:31] rentchev : a few dollars
[2016-04-20 17:48:01] rentchev : j8: where do you see the total short contracts?
[2016-04-20 17:50:09] habibi : rentchev: if u wanna open long someone need to...?
[2016-04-20 17:51:33] rentchev : habibi: did not understand your question
[2016-04-20 17:52:03] habibi : for every long u have someone has short on futures.
[2016-04-20 17:53:04] rapidtrades : i feel like im gonna waste the next few weeks of my life backtesting options...
[2016-04-20 17:53:58] j8 : rentchev: the Open Interest is 420k, which means 420k long 420k short
[2016-04-20 17:54:39] rentchev : right
[2016-04-20 17:55:01] rentchev : not clear where they entered and will get liquidated
[2016-04-20 17:55:05] rentchev : or have stops
[2016-04-20 17:55:13] rentchev : but I see your point
[2016-04-20 17:55:36] rentchev : I am long June and just got short Friday at 445
[2016-04-20 17:55:41] rentchev : for a quick scalp
[2016-04-20 17:57:06] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETH7D`: Sell 15 @ 0.01921
[2016-04-20 17:57:49] j8 : i think a lot traded around 460-464. but most people would use less than 25x on those
[2016-04-20 17:58:44] habibi : i think sleger short a lot but not sure tho
[2016-04-20 17:59:09] habibi : but even he do, he has everything hedged probally
[2016-04-20 17:59:52] rapidtrades : sledger the hedger
[2016-04-20 18:01:52] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETH7D`: Sell 200 @ 0.01911
[2016-04-20 18:05:51] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETH7D`: Sell 790 @ 0.01896
[2016-04-20 18:26:50] sleger : i dont have any delta risk
[2016-04-20 18:28:09] Samirum : REKT:
[2016-04-20 18:34:26] blackwhite : how do you avoid delta risk if the delta changes every moment on quanto futures?
[2016-04-20 18:37:26] j8 : you do have to adjust your delta when the price moves, that's where you gain or lose on volatility
[2016-04-20 19:22:58] rentchev : LOL https://99bitcoins.com/bitcoinobituaries/
[2016-04-20 20:17:13] mrp1nk : nice :-)
[2016-04-20 20:39:28] BitMEX_Greg : "MAY 8, 2011 “Why bitcoin will fail” – Apenwarr | $3.12"
[2016-04-20 20:39:30] BitMEX_Greg : haha
[2016-04-20 20:55:56] urgent : Hi folks,
[2016-04-20 20:56:24] urgent : are you up for some urgent questioning?
[2016-04-20 20:56:38] BitMEX_Sam : :+1: Bring it on.
[2016-04-20 20:57:03] urgent : I am trying to retrieve .XBT data from here:
[2016-04-20 20:57:05] urgent : https://www.bitmex.com/api/explorer/#!/Trade/Trade_get
[2016-04-20 20:58:21] urgent : But with forms I can only get 500 per query, so I need to go by timestamp filter every 500...
[2016-04-20 20:58:47] BitMEX_Sam : You could also do it by count/offset
[2016-04-20 20:58:48] urgent : Isnt there a more - you know - "elegant" solution
[2016-04-20 20:59:07] BitMEX_Sam : See https://github.com/BitMEX/easy-data-scripts which automates this
[2016-04-20 20:59:16] urgent : (I need minute data for about two to three months...)
[2016-04-20 20:59:30] urgent : Sounds good; I check it out...
[2016-04-20 20:59:43] BitMEX_Sam : Just change the endpoint to `/trade` and add the filter
[2016-04-20 21:00:12] BitMEX_Sam : If you give me a date range I could send you a CSV
[2016-04-20 21:06:32] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBTM16`: Buy 9 @ 489.25
[2016-04-20 21:07:22] wurstgelee : i love the smell of mewn in the evening
[2016-04-20 21:07:49] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah, this has been a nice day.
[2016-04-20 21:10:12] zanza : did ETH ded yet?
[2016-04-20 21:10:34] mrp1nk : itshappening.gif
[2016-04-20 21:10:34] jung1 : BitMEX_Sam: hey
[2016-04-20 21:10:43] BitMEX_Sam : Hey jung1
[2016-04-20 21:10:44] habibi : itsfappening.gif
[2016-04-20 21:13:19] jung1 : there is some problems with bitmex. when I scroll down page crash
[2016-04-20 21:13:19] jung1 : http://postimg.org/image/qhxf7i7p3/
[2016-04-20 21:13:39] jung1 : habibi: moon time?
[2016-04-20 21:13:58] habibi : jung1: just a breakout time :)
[2016-04-20 21:14:16] chrisxbt : So where's the swaps?
[2016-04-20 21:14:28] jung1 : but when we break 450
[2016-04-20 21:14:31] jung1 : could be funny
[2016-04-20 21:14:45] BitMEX_Sam : jung1: Ah, I know exactly what that is.
[2016-04-20 21:14:46] BitMEX_Sam : Which browser?
[2016-04-20 21:14:53] jung1 : chrome
[2016-04-20 21:15:29] BitMEX_Sam : :+1: Thanks. I'll replicate this in Windows
[2016-04-20 21:15:37] jung1 : now looks ok
[2016-04-20 21:15:51] chrisxbt : ah in a few weeks
[2016-04-20 21:20:20] jung1 : BitMEX_Sam: nice increase of users number. gratz
[2016-04-20 21:20:35] BitMEX_Sam : :+1: Thanks.
[2016-04-20 21:20:41] jung1 : in few years bitmex will be goldman sachs 2.0
[2016-04-20 21:20:57] jung1 : remeber about me when it happen
[2016-04-20 21:21:00] jung1 : hehe
[2016-04-20 21:24:31] urgent : BitMEX_Sam: Ooohh Pleeeease! I want csv!!
[2016-04-20 21:24:45] BitMEX_Sam : urgent: Okay, what date ranges?
[2016-04-20 21:25:37] urgent : say november 19 2015 to april 19 2016?
[2016-04-20 21:25:55] BitMEX_Sam : :+1:
[2016-04-20 21:26:54] urgent : or january 19 to april 19 ?
[2016-04-20 21:33:06] BitMEX_Sam : urgent: https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/public.bitmex.com/Trade+-+11.19.15_04.19.16_.XBT.csv.zip
[2016-04-20 21:36:29] BitMEX_Sam : Hold, I pulled that from Testnet so there may be some Kaiko data in it
[2016-04-20 21:36:34] BitMEX_Sam : I'll re-upload it to be sure it's all Tradeblock
[2016-04-20 21:37:58] BitMEX_Sam : Ok - good to go.
[2016-04-20 21:41:57] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBT24H`: Sell 8 @ 444.14
[2016-04-20 21:42:00] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBT24H`: Sell 1 @ 444.04 :punch: :whale:
[2016-04-20 21:42:02] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBT24H`: Sell 6 @ 443.85
[2016-04-20 21:47:26] urgent : BitMEX_Sam: Are you crazy? I expected it to take some hours and you just upload it in 5 Mins??
[2016-04-20 21:47:46] BitMEX_Sam : Just a dump from the trading engine, only takes about 5s to dump it to CSV :)
[2016-04-20 21:47:53] urgent : THANK YOU VERY MUCH = its incredibly helpful...
[2016-04-20 21:49:23] urgent : But wait a moment: You already got kaiko data up there too? Will it start from May 1st?
[2016-04-20 21:50:05] BitMEX_Sam : We have Kaiko data as well, on Testnet I believe it started Apr 1
[2016-04-20 21:50:17] BitMEX_Sam : But I'll have to ask Wally to be sure, he switched the backing source of `.XBT` on Testnet
[2016-04-20 21:50:48] BitMEX_Sam : Here in production it will switch on Apr 29 at 12:01 UTC
[2016-04-20 21:51:19] urgent : And testnet data is original .XBT data, so in fact directly from tradeblock?
[2016-04-20 21:51:29] urgent : XBX
[2016-04-20 21:52:15] BitMEX_Sam : So, somewhere at the beginning of April, or late March (not sure exactly when), Wally switched the backing source of `.XBT` from TradeBlock to Kaiko, and created `.XBX` to track TradeBlock
[2016-04-20 21:53:44] BitMEX_Sam : However, `.XBX` has history going back to August and `.XBT` to last March so I think he either moved the data over, or imported some back data from Kaiko. I'll ask him when he's back online.
[2016-04-20 21:54:09] urgent : So I better use the data up to beginning of march then
[2016-04-20 21:54:31] BitMEX_Sam : The data you have is good.
[2016-04-20 21:54:34] BitMEX_Sam : That's all TradeBlock data.
[2016-04-20 21:54:45] urgent : Perfect.
[2016-04-20 21:56:37] urgent : But that means you have the sama data also for kaiko? It would be kinda veeery interesting to do some comparisons...
[2016-04-20 21:58:27] miramm1115 : BitMEX_Sam: I noticed that XBT is updated less often than XBX on testnet. Did you do any checks on Kaiko index latency and frequency of updates?
[2016-04-20 21:58:57] BitMEX_Sam : Wally would know better than I would, but last I asked him, he was satisfied with it.
[2016-04-20 21:59:57] miramm1115 : I'm going to calculate myself using raw data from the source exchanges, was just curious if you did any testing
[2016-04-20 21:59:59] BitMEX_Sam : The biggest win is that if the feed goes down (and let's face it, all web services go down), users will be able to reconstruct the index as the weightings only move once a day, and the calculation formula is public
[2016-04-20 22:00:19] BitMEX_Sam : So we're no longer beholden to the data provider, it just simply serves as a simple source of data
[2016-04-20 22:00:43] BitMEX_Sam : Last I pulled data from Kaiko it was at very regular 5s ticks. I don't believe they have a live feed like TBLK does, their firehose is impressive
[2016-04-20 22:01:06] BitMEX_Sam : I've seen as many as 1300 updates in a single second from the TBLK websocket
[2016-04-20 22:01:32] urgent : miramm1115: Its crucial that you use .XBT; cause XBT is XBT:latest which is something like just the bitstamp ticker.
[2016-04-20 22:01:35] BitMEX_Sam : Some bot on OKC XBT/CNY is going nuts
[2016-04-20 22:01:40] ggwp : BitMEX_Sam: just to be clear (a bit new to this) a stop market order is a buy and a stop limit order is a sell, righto?
[2016-04-20 22:01:52] BitMEX_Sam : ggwp: No - careful with that :)
[2016-04-20 22:02:00] BitMEX_Sam : Both types can be buys or sells.
[2016-04-20 22:02:23] ggwp : BitMEX_Sam: ah, of course!
[2016-04-20 22:02:30] BitMEX_Sam : The difference is, when it triggers (the mark price reaches your trigger price), the order can either be a market order (reach deep into the book until the quantity is filled) or a limit order (place an order at a specific price & quantity).
[2016-04-20 22:02:45] miramm1115 : urgent: thanks, I know
[2016-04-20 22:03:04] BitMEX_Sam : Generally traders like Stop Market orders as they guarantee you'll get out of your position, liquidity permitting
[2016-04-20 22:03:05] ggwp : BitMEX_Sam: market orders aren't advised here because of liquidity I presume
[2016-04-20 22:03:33] BitMEX_Sam : Right. Some traders like them. Personally I wouldn't use Market orders on any exchange
[2016-04-20 22:03:49] BitMEX_Sam : Especially since so many (ourselves included) offer maker/taker fee schedules.
[2016-04-20 22:03:53] miramm1115 : BitMEX_Sam: yeah, 5s is quite slow for the reference index. I expect most will calculate it themselves
[2016-04-20 22:04:02] ggwp : BitMEX_Sam: got it, much thanks
[2016-04-20 22:04:22] BitMEX_Sam : miramm1115: I agree, it's rather slow but as this is Bitcoin it's not too bad. Just fine for Mark Price updates but not great if you're trying to get the jump
[2016-04-20 22:04:32] ggwp : BitMEX_Sam: also, what's your kyc policy, do you keep IPs for a while?
[2016-04-20 22:05:04] BitMEX_Sam : We store IPs only ephemerally, they are tied to your browser tokens & optionally API keys
[2016-04-20 22:05:48] BitMEX_Sam : At some point we may start storing, but only to offer notifications (e.g. "Login from new IP address") or allow users to restrict to a list of addresses/blocks
[2016-04-20 22:06:16] BitMEX_Sam : Technically, of course, we have all of that in our logs, though - just not in the DB.

[2016-04-21 16:12:40] BitMEX_Sam : donchard: Yes and no, since the contracts have different expiries, it's difficult to do so in a risk-free way
[2016-04-21 16:12:58] BitMEX_Sam : However, today, the daily and weekly both settle at the same time
[2016-04-21 16:13:39] phillipmck : BitMEX_Sam: Do you have a list of countries where one can actively trade?
[2016-04-21 16:13:47] BitMEX_Sam : phillipmck: Yes, all countries outside of the US.

[2016-04-21 16:14:55] BitMEX_Sam : This is true - generally the difference between the two is minor but it is possible to get caught if a big market movement happens right before settlement
[2016-04-21 16:15:35] BitMEX_Sam : See https://www.bitmex.com/app/settlementHistory - generally they settle at the same price, but it has happened that they are as much as 30 cents apart

[2016-04-21 20:31:39] janos666 : A noob question: Is the unrealized P/L remain unrealized when I roll from XBT24H to XBT48H? Or what's the point of the "daily roll" label?
[2016-04-21 20:31:57] janos666 : *Does (sorry)
[2016-04-21 20:33:11] justinlooking : janos666: daily roll will become the daily at 12 utc tomorrow, and there will be a new daily roll listed
[2016-04-21 20:33:56] nip : i think it might be realized
[2016-04-21 20:35:48] janos666 : Is there a difference between moving from 24H to 48H rather than, say, from 24H to 1Q?
[2016-04-21 20:36:32] j8 : janos666: the difference is that a position on 48H becomes a position on 24H
[2016-04-21 20:37:21] j8 : the other contracts keep the same symbol until expiry
[2016-04-21 20:37:35] janos666 : So, it's not like I can have a virtually infinite contract expiration deadline by rolling and rolling over and over again...?
[2016-04-21 20:38:40] j8 : janos666: every day you would have to open your position on the 48H and close it on the 24H
[2016-04-21 20:39:16] j8 : but they're working on a new type of contract that has no expiry
[2016-04-21 20:40:40] janos666 : If I do that (open a new 48H and close the old 24H every day), will my P/L be realized or not?
[2016-04-21 20:41:27] j8 : when you close your 24H you will realize pnl. when you open the 48H it's a new position
[2016-04-21 20:41:44] janos666 : I would prefer quarterly contracts but those markets here are so far from the spot price...
[2016-04-21 20:41:58] j8 : then at the daily settlement, your 48H position becomes 24H and it does realize pnl with a rebalance
[2016-04-21 20:42:55] janos666 : Thank you for your help.
[2016-04-21 20:43:26] j8 : no problem
[2016-04-21 21:07:45] BitMEX_Sam : We're working towards that goal, so that positions can automatically roll day to day without expiry

[2016-04-22 00:46:29] BitMEX_Sam : Then again, do we ever know?
[2016-04-22 00:47:07] jung1 : nope
[2016-04-22 00:47:13] jung1 : and this is why we love bitcoin
[2016-04-22 00:50:51] nip : i dislike what the pump is doing to the btc denominated value of my eth
[2016-04-22 00:51:20] jung1 : BitMEX_Sam: have you though about https://www.bitgo.com/instant ?
[2016-04-22 00:51:26] jung1 : would be awesome
[2016-04-22 00:51:37] jung1 : and bitgo is best web wallet imo
[2016-04-22 00:52:32] nip : they charge fees!
[2016-04-22 00:53:37] BitMEX_Sam : Interesting.
[2016-04-22 00:53:41] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah, 0.1% > 1 BTC
[2016-04-22 00:53:45] BitMEX_Sam : So you'd have to really want it.
[2016-04-22 00:53:49] jung1 : yeah 0.10%
[2016-04-22 00:53:58] BitMEX_Sam : Could be good for topping up a dying position but otherwise too expensive.
[2016-04-22 00:57:08] micmix : BitMEX_Sam: I have couple of API questions about the ETHXBT swap on testnet. Should I wait for Wally?
[2016-04-22 00:57:27] BitMEX_Sam : That may be best, but I should be able to answer some of them

[2016-04-22 00:58:10] jung1 : well is it expensive? they provide good service
[2016-04-22 00:58:10] micmix : do you know what table column is the daily funding rate?
[2016-04-22 00:58:14] nip : quadratic returns for longs!
[2016-04-22 00:58:24] BitMEX_Sam : The daily rate is based on .XBTPON
[2016-04-22 00:58:31] jung1 : and its not more expensive than others web wallets
[2016-04-22 00:58:50] nip : it is very expensive
[2016-04-22 00:59:36] nip : especially for large transactions
[2016-04-22 00:59:48] micmix : BitMEX_Sam: is there a field in the instrument or position table with daily funding rate? looks like it's insuranceRate column but I'm not sure
[2016-04-22 01:00:48] BitMEX_Sam : I believe that's from way back, our old daily funding fee from when we had the dual rate structure
[2016-04-22 01:01:06] BitMEX_Sam : It wouldn't be on the instrument itself, I believe it's derived from `.XBTPON` itself and used for the 24h transactions
[2016-04-22 01:01:16] BitMEX_Sam : I know Wally's adding some new columns soon, he'll be able to better tell you what the plans are
[2016-04-22 01:01:32] BitMEX_Sam : The implementation in Testnet is overloading a few existing columns just to prove the concept - before we launch it will be cleaned up
[2016-04-22 01:04:41] micmix : BitMEX_Sam: ok, thanks. I see .XBTPON24H index, that's probably what I need
[2016-04-22 01:05:24] jung1 : nip: yeah but under 1 btc is free
