This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2016-01-15 15:18:38] habibi : :D
[2016-01-15 15:19:20] BitMEX_Sam : Those are coming, by the way :
[2016-01-15 15:19:30] jung1 : when?
[2016-01-15 15:19:42] habibi : xbu7d orderbook looks awsome
[2016-01-15 15:19:51] BitMEX_Sam : Next week most likely; issue is we have to do some significant adjustment in the UI to get it in
[2016-01-15 15:20:04] BitMEX_Sam : It'll hit the API first.
[2016-01-15 15:22:06] jung1 : BitMEX_Sam: what you think about hear announcement?
[2016-01-15 15:22:37] BitMEX_Sam : It's sad to lose a talented dev, BitcoinJ was a great project
[2016-01-15 15:23:06] jung1 : well he is now in R3
[2016-01-15 15:23:08] BitMEX_Sam : Not everyone is perfect but I believe he's correct to say that Bitcoin is floundering without clear leadership, a true BDFL like Satoshi was
[2016-01-15 15:23:35] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah - R3 has the resources
[2016-01-15 15:23:38] laisee : maybe he will become an ETH developer now
[2016-01-15 15:23:45] BitMEX_Sam : I'm sure he's doing just fine
[2016-01-15 15:24:00] Swedishnut : I think it is a hiccup nothing more
[2016-01-15 15:24:16] BitMEX_Sam : If this proposal to effectively raise the limit goes through and we get some breathing room, that'd be good
[2016-01-15 15:24:17] jung1 : I think he will cooperate with r3 and develope closed blockchain for banks
[2016-01-15 15:24:29] BitMEX_Sam : Well of course he will cooperate, they're paying him, he's an employee
[2016-01-15 15:25:24] laisee : he's correct to point out that blockchain tech can be fixed, but the people side seems quite broken
[2016-01-15 15:25:32] BitMEX_Sam : Agreed
[2016-01-15 15:25:51] habibi : dont u think the way the expressed all that drama was only for one think? other make market dump intentionally for someone business or just acting like" i sold so it would be big pita for me if price goes up, so i will try to broke ur fun
[2016-01-15 15:26:01] BitMEX_Sam : For a while I considered not saying anything about any of it, because the people side is so broken that they've got Bitcoin companies fearing DDoS for saying what they think
[2016-01-15 15:26:37] jung1 : and true is that people dont give a f about decentralisation, transparency etc. If something will work they will jump on it. So if the will develope solution, new standard for banking that allow avarage user to send 10 cents to japan in 5s bitcoin will stay a interesting tool for geeks
[2016-01-15 15:26:54] Swedishnut : people are broken that is our nature (up for debate obvious philosophy) but machines work "perfectly" if they are made virtually they can never have pieces wear out so to say. we broken things must work to perfect the systems that balance our world or we will find ourselves homeless
[2016-01-15 15:27:13] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah, at this point in time there are few to no Bitcoin killer apps, but they are coming
[2016-01-15 15:27:45] BitMEX_Sam : But if standard banking (especially in the US) actually gets it together it will make some of Bitcoin's value propositions less compelling
[2016-01-15 15:28:05] sleger : BitMEX_Sam: adjustment of long term basis ?
[2016-01-15 15:28:17] BitMEX_Sam : Let me ping Arthur on that
[2016-01-15 15:28:21] jung1 : I was in tuesday on blockchain london conference and a lot of people was sceptic about bitcoins future
[2016-01-15 15:28:40] laisee : Swedishnut: > how to fix the people side ... what went wrong with Core will happen even more if Bitcoin gets bigger. So I'm a little depressed at it all.
[2016-01-15 15:29:10] BitMEX_Sam : It would be nice if the two largest Bitcoin communities weren't controlled by the same guy, who clearly has no interest in open communication
[2016-01-15 15:29:28] BitMEX_Sam : Once the community wrests itself free of his control I hope we will see improvement
[2016-01-15 15:30:05] Swedishnut : We need a chaotic intervention and adoption by an open sourced intelligent community
[2016-01-15 15:30:12] laisee : I'd like to see that happen ... but I fear the next schism will only be worse.
[2016-01-15 15:30:27] Swedishnut : aliens?
[2016-01-15 15:30:29] tscha : I agree with Mike on all major points. He phrased it over-dramatic on purpose to make the point clear. Will be interesting to see what happens when Classic actually goes online in terms of DDOS attacks.
[2016-01-15 15:30:48] tscha : They are going to get nuked.
[2016-01-15 15:30:58] laisee : tscha: > it'll get killed by DDOS and worse. sadly.
[2016-01-15 15:32:00] SnackyCoins : i think the inventor of bittorrent said it best

[2016-01-15 15:33:12] laisee : Snack> can post here ... not able to see twitter currently.
[2016-01-15 15:33:28] SnackyCoins : Bram Cohen ‏@bramcohen 16h16 hours ago @SwiftOnSecurity @nytimes That was one whiny ragequit. He's epically wrong on almost all technical points.
[2016-01-15 15:34:21] SnackyCoins : i mean the NYT article called him a "prominent bitcoin developer"
[2016-01-15 15:34:27] SnackyCoins : he doesn't have a single commit to bitcoin
[2016-01-15 15:34:30] laisee : classic Core developer response. missing the entire point of it all.
[2016-01-15 15:34:42] SnackyCoins : he also said the miners wont let bitcoin grow
[2016-01-15 15:34:55] SnackyCoins : when all major chinese pools were in favor of 8mb blocks
[2016-01-15 15:35:06] SnackyCoins : dude is a liar
[2016-01-15 15:35:21] SnackyCoins : bram choen is not a bitcoin dev
[2016-01-15 15:35:29] SnackyCoins : he's the guy who invented bittorrent
[2016-01-15 15:35:33] jung1 : but remember that bitcoin have same functionality if its worth 10000$ and 1$
[2016-01-15 15:36:43] BitMEX_Sam : https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10908287
[2016-01-15 15:37:05] BitMEX_Sam : Re: backlogs, we're already seeing it on withdrawals
[2016-01-15 15:37:18] j8 : speaking of DDOS... coinbase down?
[2016-01-15 15:37:21] BitMEX_Sam : We have a few that have been pending for 3 hours now, because the fee was 0.0001
[2016-01-15 15:37:38] BitMEX_Sam : j8: Coinbase is up from this end
[2016-01-15 15:37:54] j8 : the api?
[2016-01-15 15:37:55] laisee : SnackyCoins: > didn't say he was a Core dev, just his response was same style.
[2016-01-15 15:37:57] BitMEX_Sam : j8: I take that back, API is down
[2016-01-15 15:37:59] BitMEX_Sam : 503
[2016-01-15 15:38:30] j8 : yup
[2016-01-15 15:39:01] tscha : Mike did more for Bitcoin than 99.999% of the Bitcoin community. It baffles me when people say things like he didn't contribute anything or has no technical understanding. Just confirms the massive brainwash effect that those censored, north-korean like communities have on people. So yeah, I agree with Mike and BitMEX_Sam, these communities need to be free of censorship to start open discussions.
[2016-01-15 15:40:12] BitMEX_Sam : Getting a strange base64 JS blob from the exchange j8, their own CSP is blocking it
[2016-01-15 15:40:21] j8 : weird
[2016-01-15 15:40:36] SnackyCoins : http://toom.im/files/consensus_census.pdf was what i was going off of
[2016-01-15 15:40:40] SnackyCoins : and hearn's git.
[2016-01-15 15:41:22] BitMEX_Sam : j8: https://gist.github.com/STRML/fc4fe06edb861c43b5ed
[2016-01-15 15:41:26] j8 : seems to have just come online again
[2016-01-15 15:41:31] SnackyCoins : if he says they went back on their word about it well fuck, can't say shit about it i guess
[2016-01-15 15:41:56] BitMEX_Sam : Interesting, mine came on as well; they managed to make it auto-refresh on uptime
[2016-01-15 15:41:58] BitMEX_Sam : That's a nice trick
[2016-01-15 15:42:32] j8 : i guess that's what that does.
[2016-01-15 15:47:41] lockhedge : BitMEX_Sam: finally Mike is telling us his conspiracy theory directly "even in the best case scenario, the community will essentially accept that Bitcoin is controlled by the Chinese government and grows or shrinks at their whim"
[2016-01-15 15:49:37] SnackyCoins : i agree with him there but probably not for the reasons he thinks
[2016-01-15 15:50:37] sleger : so one guy writes in his blog and price crashes 10%
[2016-01-15 15:50:57] SnackyCoins : when it gets published in the NYT, yeah
[2016-01-15 15:51:16] laisee : I don't think it's under control of China ... but strange that none of the so-called cypher-punks and decentralization folks see no issue with > 50% mimining in China
[2016-01-15 15:52:22] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBTM16`: Sell 3500 @ 541.68
[2016-01-15 15:52:22] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBTM16`: Sell 8000 @ 542.66

[2016-01-15 15:52:22] REKT : Close your longs, close your shorts, choppy waters ahead!
[2016-01-15 15:52:28] laisee : ... and price will recover from article but same people and centralized mining issues are going to kill Bitcoin IMO
[2016-01-15 15:55:07] habibi : that manual adjusment lel
[2016-01-15 15:55:31] sleger : it was long overdue
[2016-01-15 15:55:43] habibi : yep
[2016-01-15 15:56:03] sleger : that 32k order on h16 is tempting
[2016-01-15 15:56:29] habibi : it need adjusment as well
[2016-01-15 15:59:10] lockhedge : the only problem Bitcoin has: there is no central leadership (well, that's the idea behind Bitcoin) and it takes more time to organize change decentrally.
[2016-01-15 15:59:50] zanza : Thermos is a great lrader
[2016-01-15 15:59:59] zanza : leader
[2016-01-15 16:00:31] sleger : Hot Matters. Cold Matters. It Matters.
[2016-01-15 16:00:36] zanza : Cryptsy + Mike Hearn may send this to 200's
[2016-01-15 16:00:39] tscha : 1) We have a great leader, 2) Core isn't decentralized. They had more than enough time.
[2016-01-15 16:02:18] tscha : I don't feel that the delay in changes is caused by "decentralization". It is caused by one party intentionally delaying/sabotizing changes.
[2016-01-15 16:08:02] laisee : currently bitcoin is being blocked. there is no question 2MB could not be rolled out in a month or so, if allowed.
[2016-01-15 16:10:08] lockhedge : tscha: in democracy, it's always "one party intentionally delaying/sabotizing changes", this "one party" is always the others, i'm not surprised that miners fear changes
[2016-01-15 16:12:18] lockhedge : laisee: 2mb would be an important signal that miners react fast and show that necessary improvements are possible. imo there is a strong incentive for miners to act now.
[2016-01-15 16:12:38] tscha : In democracy, I don't see DoS attacks from the leading democratic party onto the other parties.
[2016-01-15 16:12:51] tscha : Yeah it's not proven it was them, but they have the highest incentive so the probability is high.
[2016-01-15 16:13:33] laisee : lockhedge: > if 2MB can't be done becos of Core blocking and/or miners not agreeing to change then Bitcoin is broken IMO.
[2016-01-15 16:16:24] tscha : lockhedge: Also, in democracy there is freedom of public speech. The biggest Bitcoin online communities remind me more of North-Korea.
[2016-01-15 16:17:39] tscha : Every idea/comment/thread about different Bitcoin implementations got insta-deleted. Is that democratic to you? @lockhedge
[2016-01-15 16:17:52] laisee : tscha: > when software can be written to do anything, why would anyone want to censor ideas. crazy.
[2016-01-15 16:18:13] BitMEX_Sam : I don't know why he even bothers
[2016-01-15 16:18:29] BitMEX_Sam : It takes so much time and effort to censor and the net effect is overwhelmingly negative
[2016-01-15 16:18:33] BitMEX_Sam : I'm not sure what his motivations are.
[2016-01-15 16:19:33] tscha : Well they successfully delayed public information about the seriousness of this matter for like 6 months.
[2016-01-15 16:23:19] Swedishnut : recession imminent?
[2016-01-15 16:25:50] tscha : BitMEX_Sam: It's quite possible they are just buying time for the lightning network to be ready. So miners won't risk an experimantal hardfork to only get DoS-ed, but instead chose the safer Blockstream solution.
[2016-01-15 16:26:15] BitMEX_Sam : That's a possibility I haven't considered
[2016-01-15 16:26:21] tscha : Not saying it is that way, but is a possibility since the incentives are clear within the core-dev team due to the Blockstream connection/payrolls
[2016-01-15 16:26:28] BitMEX_Sam : Although in these cases I usually assume incompetence, not malice
[2016-01-15 16:27:37] lockhedge : tscha: no, that's not democratic and completely not acceptable - but 1) i don't use these spam communities anymore 2) the admin of this communities is not the leader of Bitcoin nor is the chinese gov imo 3) public information about the scalability problem was always there
[2016-01-15 16:28:33] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBT7D`: Buy 5000 @ 397.43
[2016-01-15 16:33:36] tscha : CeO of KNC miner (7% hashrate overall) just confirmed in an email they will switch to Bitcoin Classic ASAP. Good news.
[2016-01-15 16:34:53] lockhedge : tscha: great
[2016-01-15 16:35:50] zanza : BitMEX_Sam: can you confirm if Mike Hearn has an account here, and if he shorted any of the XBT's this week?
[2016-01-15 16:36:14] zanza : :)
[2016-01-15 16:36:31] BitMEX_Sam : Even if he had, I couldn't confirm that
[2016-01-15 16:36:33] BitMEX_Sam : :)
[2016-01-15 16:37:06] BitMEX_Sam : tscha: Bitcoin Classic has some good things going for it. It's like a pull request with absolutely minimal changes, which is really what you need to do in order to get anything through in a big project
[2016-01-15 16:37:16] BitMEX_Sam : Some people want to roll an RBF rollback into classic but I think that's unwise
[2016-01-15 16:41:11] laisee : agree, leave all contentious changes aside for now. best chance for Classic not to get killed.
[2016-01-15 16:41:33] BitMEX_Sam : Yep.
[2016-01-15 16:45:06] djuan : chart is stuck man.
[2016-01-15 16:45:31] BitMEX_Sam : djuan: I'm pushing a fix now that will restart the chart automatically in certain conditions
[2016-01-15 16:45:43] BitMEX_Sam : Will be live in about 5min.
[2016-01-15 16:45:47] djuan : cool beans buddy
[2016-01-15 16:45:52] BitMEX_Sam : In the meantime you can fix it by navigating to any page and back to the dashboard, or refreshing
[2016-01-15 16:46:25] djuan : thanks
[2016-01-15 16:46:37] tscha : People seem to be scared to trade futures atm. Usually the volume ratio bitmex/spot is much higher.
[2016-01-15 16:49:36] BitMEX_Sam : We had a very slow day yesterday which is contributing to the low 24H
[2016-01-15 16:50:14] tscha : true
[2016-01-15 17:11:17] zanza : more people trade on the way up ?
[2016-01-15 17:13:32] laisee : zanza: > only 98% ...
[2016-01-15 17:19:53] tscha : Haha, the letter from knc saying that they will switch to Bitcoin Classic got instantly removed on /r/Bitcoin
[2016-01-15 17:22:21] laisee : they might run out of posts that can be posted and companies that have not be banned at some point.
[2016-01-15 17:24:46] tscha : Yeah. Hopefully this happens before Bitcoin gets damaged further.
[2016-01-15 17:33:24] gouda : who's ready to catch knives with m e
[2016-01-15 17:37:57] zanza : Bitcoin is "anti-fragile" :)
[2016-01-15 17:38:14] zanza : I think this is a good buying oppertunity, but i am neutral
[2016-01-15 17:38:28] zanza : could easy rebound to 420 in 2-3 days
[2016-01-15 17:39:00] sleger : march basis is still too high, I wonder if maybe they're not lowering it to avoid triggering some stop losses

[2016-01-15 18:22:25] tscha : lockhedge: Yepp. It's still important that they publically reassure Classic support though.
[2016-01-15 18:23:14] tscha : agreeing with classic is good, stating they they will actively switch ASAP is even better

[2016-01-15 18:38:55] sleger : So the liq algo basically tries to make money by not being too agressive and right now the order on H16 is costing DPE although it could have been executed at that price if it had first gone there.

[2016-01-15 19:31:30] rapidtrades : zanza: going ok...finex is shit tho
[2016-01-15 19:33:03] habibi : i dont see point trading here when there is no liq when u can trade on poloniex, with same leverage i think?

[2016-01-15 19:35:07] djuan : eth
[2016-01-15 19:38:45] BitMEX_Wally : habibi: Poloniex only offers 2.5x leverage?
[2016-01-15 19:39:47] habibi : was'nt sure about that, sorry. but still here is kind of useless as long as eth believers are not here actively trading
[2016-01-15 19:42:00] tscha : "i dont see point trading here when there is no liq when u can trade on poloniex" According to that logic, there can't be any new exchanges, since every new exchanges starts with 0 liquidity and then it makes no sense trading there.
[2016-01-15 19:42:40] sleger : That's not at all what he said
[2016-01-15 19:44:35] habibi : but still here is kind of useless as long as eth believers are not here actively trading

[2016-01-15 19:50:36] sleger : and ask the MM to make markets there ?
[2016-01-15 19:51:13] djuan : BitMEX_Wally: that might add a little spice to the trade
[2016-01-15 19:51:17] BitMEX_Wally : They can earn the spread and get 2.5 bps rebate, plus hedge it perfectly with ETH/XBT. What more do we need to ask them?
[2016-01-15 19:54:19] djuan : im a new trader. "2.5bps rebate" is like gibberish to me. what does that mean ?
[2016-01-15 19:54:41] BitMEX_Wally : The trading fee is -0.025%
[2016-01-15 19:55:01] BitMEX_Wally : Meaning if you post a limit order and someone else trades against you, then you get paid cash
[2016-01-15 19:55:27] sleger : or more like btc

[2016-01-15 20:00:59] habibi : BitMEX_Wally: u can attract eth traders by this but first of all they need to know about that awsome futures exchange! marketing marketing marketing. djuan u said like 15 minutes ago that u won't touch eth, d

[2016-01-15 20:19:58] rapidtrades : is my open profit used to cover margin funding?
[2016-01-15 20:19:59] djuan : thats what happened to me anyway. i only traded on there once. i don't like it
[2016-01-15 20:20:46] rapidtrades : I have like +$400 there cos stupid cunty finex will not give ur profit unless ur entire position is closed
[2016-01-15 20:20:54] djuan : not sure mate. i set coincide up to take over trading for me there. i prefer bitmex
