This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2016-01-06 02:47:37] sleger : I am just a market participant
[2016-01-06 02:47:43] GerryHYH : :)
[2016-01-06 02:47:47] sleger : but happy to provide quotes up to 500btc either side
[2016-01-06 02:48:30] GerryHYH : so you're more of a maker? :P
[2016-01-06 02:48:48] sleger : I have a bot maker running but it only shows about 10btc each side
[2016-01-06 02:48:59] sleger : If one needs more he can ask and I shall deliver
[2016-01-06 02:49:16] GerryHYH : fascinating stuff! I've always been the taker
[2016-01-06 02:49:34] GerryHYH : but fascinated on how maker operates
[2016-01-06 02:50:29] GerryHYH : I'm not very good with computers, but does Bot need something like API to operate?
[2016-01-06 02:52:23] sleger : I make prices I am not a school teacher though
[2016-01-06 02:52:40] GerryHYH : test
[2016-01-06 02:53:01] GerryHYH : only asking :(
[2016-01-06 02:54:41] GerryHYH : Is there any charts I can see btw?
[2016-01-06 02:58:20] hobbskevin : hey all I'm new to this site I was wondering if there was an easier way to close out your positions than to have to just put new sell orders in?
[2016-01-06 02:59:36] j8 : hobbskevin: there are the Close Limit and Close Market order types
[2016-01-06 03:00:00] hobbskevin : ahh I see thank you.
[2016-01-06 03:00:08] coolcatgee : are you long or short? who many contracts?
[2016-01-06 03:00:17] hobbskevin : long 5000
[2016-01-06 03:01:53] coolcatgee : yea thats a easy market close, if it was 20k you'd be going a few dollars deep
[2016-01-06 03:02:33] hobbskevin : Yeah I am just getting used to this style of trading
[2016-01-06 03:02:43] coolcatgee : but even with market close you can get burned, because the bots are constantly readjusting
[2016-01-06 03:03:09] hobbskevin : really good to know. so your advice is to set a take profit and stop loss?
[2016-01-06 03:04:55] arbitrage001 : any guide on how to write bot?
[2016-01-06 03:04:57] coolcatgee : that is a good strategy but sometimes its nice to watch the market overreact and seize opportunities, if your looking for a quick close use the close limit and put a price that the order book can handle
[2016-01-06 03:07:45] hobbskevin : thx I appreciate that
[2016-01-06 03:08:16] GerryHYH : Guys, where do I see the charts ?
[2016-01-06 03:08:52] hobbskevin : click on "chart" in the order controls
[2016-01-06 03:09:28] GerryHYH : Very kind Kevin, thanks for your reply
[2016-01-06 03:09:37] GerryHYH : sorrie, where is order controls located at?
[2016-01-06 03:10:28] hobbskevin : do you see on your trading dashboard in the top right
[2016-01-06 03:10:43] micmix : GerryHYH: if you are familiar with trading, I would recommend switching to advanced view: click on your username in the top-right corner and select advanced layout
[2016-01-06 03:11:10] GerryHYH : Nevermind, found it
[2016-01-06 03:11:16] GerryHYH : Thanks Kevin and micmix
[2016-01-06 03:11:33] GerryHYH : (i'm getting more and more impressed with BitMex :D)
[2016-01-06 03:15:24] BitMEX_Sam : Glad you like it, GerryHYH
[2016-01-06 03:15:37] BitMEX_Sam : Re: bots, we have a sample at https://github.com/BitMEX/market-maker/

[2016-01-06 08:08:43] Yepachuchu : I say POTOOTER
[2016-01-06 08:09:18] laisee : spelling contest ... winder gets the rekkage from next liquidation by rapidtrades, or sledger
[2016-01-06 08:09:49] Yepachuchu : winner?
[2016-01-06 08:09:58] wurstgelee : no, winder
[2016-01-06 08:10:04] wurstgelee : its a spelling contest
[2016-01-06 08:10:06] wurstgelee : ;)
[2016-01-06 08:11:43] rapidtrades : laisee: good luck with that, I've only had one LIQ here, when I first started
[2016-01-06 08:12:13] laisee : so you don't count all those busts with qty < 5?
[2016-01-06 08:14:42] cataquil : while the dollar clobbers other fx, btcusd holds steady
[2016-01-06 08:17:37] rapidtrades : well ''clobbering'' in fx is 2-3% moves
[2016-01-06 08:17:46] rapidtrades : for bitcoin that's like $12, so nothing
[2016-01-06 08:28:16] rapidtrades : Don't you hate it when rich douchebags enter the stage on a Segway?
[2016-01-06 08:28:28] rapidtrades : You don't look cool you pretentious douche
[2016-01-06 08:38:27] laisee : rapidtrades: > you trade FX, right?
[2016-01-06 08:42:16] rapidtrades : yeah
[2016-01-06 10:40:00] zanza : wow oil getting rekt

[2016-01-06 10:43:37] zanza : any suggestions for trading rapidtrades ?
[2016-01-06 10:43:42] zanza : i took a loss on USDRUB
[2016-01-06 10:43:55] rapidtrades : I'm long the usd/rub
[2016-01-06 10:44:03] zanza : :o
[2016-01-06 10:44:10] zanza : fk, what is your target
[2016-01-06 10:44:12] zanza : i was shor
[2016-01-06 10:44:45] rapidtrades : no target, following the trend
[2016-01-06 10:44:57] rapidtrades : stop at 69 atm
[2016-01-06 10:46:22] rapidtrades : it's prolly too late to long here though...I've been in for almost 1 month now
[2016-01-06 11:57:47] tscha : rapidtrades: how long have you been trading overall? do you also have a cfa certificate?
[2016-01-06 12:45:25] sleger : " laisee: spelling contest ... winder gets the rekkage from next liquidation by rapidtrades, or sledger"
[2016-01-06 12:45:48] sleger : laisee: looks like you lose first, there is no sleDger !
[2016-01-06 13:28:04] tscha : sleger: not our fault that you had a typo during registration
[2016-01-06 13:32:37] sleger : somone ate a clown today
[2016-01-06 15:17:50] zanza : rapidtrades: if you are still holding USDRUB you made good moeny today
[2016-01-06 15:20:57] zanza : so 430 is the price
[2016-01-06 15:21:10] zanza : it will break above 500 or below 330 from here
[2016-01-06 15:33:35] tscha : 2016 is not starting well
[2016-01-06 15:35:14] tscha : I don't care about north korea's hydrogen bomb test, neither do I care about the incidents in cologne or the conflict between Saudi-Arabia and Iran...
[2016-01-06 15:35:20] tscha : it's the low volume on bitmex that really bugs me
[2016-01-06 15:37:18] tscha : newspapers should set their priorites right.
[2016-01-06 16:19:45] blackwhite : sleger: Sorry, what was that about? My scrollbar is limited.
[2016-01-06 16:20:09] blackwhite : some market making revelation?
[2016-01-06 16:22:11] sleger : blackwhite: how should i know what you're talking about ?
[2016-01-06 16:28:07] blackwhite : "I make prices" talk :). the first message in this list.
[2016-01-06 16:29:17] sleger : Yes I gave some big secret out, but now it's too late, the chat hid them ;)
[2016-01-06 16:30:30] tscha : blackwhite: click on "view archive" on top left to get the chat archive of last 1-2 days
[2016-01-06 16:30:37] tscha : top left of trollbox*
[2016-01-06 16:32:07] blackwhite : tscha: thanks|
[2016-01-06 16:32:23] sleger : and then you can ask tschwa why he is so afraid of saying what size his bot quotes
[2016-01-06 16:33:45] tscha : sleger: I already told you the size differs. Don't know why you still keep asking. But I can tell you it ranges from 200 to 4000.
[2016-01-06 16:34:25] tscha : Don't know whats so interesting about that to be honest. Are you smarter now?
[2016-01-06 16:37:07] sleger : no but I know which size you quote
[2016-01-06 16:37:21] tscha : right now?
[2016-01-06 16:38:35] sleger : no I meant it cant hurt
[2016-01-06 16:38:45] sleger : to know, curiosity etc...
[2016-01-06 16:39:20] tscha : glad I satisfied your curiosity :)
[2016-01-06 16:39:29] sleger : i quote 2000 because there are rarely bigger taker orders and if something goes wrong i dont end up with an order for 30k unmanaged by the algo
[2016-01-06 16:40:36] tscha : sleger: if you increase the spread depending on your current position, it's hard to end up with 30k, even if you quote 5k orders
[2016-01-06 16:41:09] tscha : but yeah, on very low volume like this, 5k maybe isn't a good idea
[2016-01-06 16:41:15] sleger : i was explaining why i dont just put 30k instead of my 2k
[2016-01-06 16:41:50] sleger : today since settlement my bot traded .... 0
[2016-01-06 16:49:39] zanza : if MM was always profitable, wouldn't the house just be MM ?
[2016-01-06 16:50:07] arbitrage001 : being MM has risk
[2016-01-06 16:50:41] arbitrage001 : house should focus on improving platform and services
[2016-01-06 16:50:59] arbitrage001 : much better profit anyway
[2016-01-06 16:53:22] charlton : Hello, is there a way to automatically roll over XBT24H contracts in perpetuity? does it cost?
[2016-01-06 16:55:21] sleger : zanza: that doesnt mean anything, some MM bot make money and some lose
[2016-01-06 16:55:39] BitMEX_Sam : charlton: Sorry, there is no way to automatically roll over; if you want to hold a longer-dated future, try the weeklies or quarterlies
[2016-01-06 16:55:43] sleger : charlton: not that I know of, you'd have to use a bot for that
[2016-01-06 16:56:23] charlton : Ok thank you! yeah I was looking for a way
[2016-01-06 16:56:37] charlton : just to simply go long in an open-ended way
[2016-01-06 18:36:14] tscha : BitMEX_Sam: by the way, the little windows-hotfix did indeed fix the emoji issues... works now
[2016-01-06 18:36:38] tscha : they are ugly as hell though, will figure out later how I can use customized sets
[2016-01-06 19:03:07] BitMEX_Sam : tscha: :) Glad it's working, I agree they're not the best but they're built-in
[2016-01-06 19:04:09] tscha : BitMEX_Sam: http://imgur.com/ObSUmiX
[2016-01-06 19:04:47] tscha : not sure if this is an improvement to the squares before :D
[2016-01-06 19:04:51] BitMEX_Sam : Wow
[2016-01-06 19:04:54] BitMEX_Sam : That is ugly as sin.
[2016-01-06 19:05:16] tscha : it's better if the text is not bold... but yeah, will try to get a different set somehow :D
[2016-01-06 19:05:19] BitMEX_Sam : http://i.imgur.com/Eoqc6pi.jpg
[2016-01-06 19:06:08] tscha : http://imgur.com/l4Pvrqj better if not bold, but still cancerish
[2016-01-06 19:09:59] rapidtrades : mmm cancer
[2016-01-06 19:12:38] rapidtrades : who's MM is quoting the 6ks
[2016-01-06 19:15:40] tscha : BitMEX_Sam: downloaded a chrome extension, now I have the same ones as you
[2016-01-06 19:15:55] tscha : rapidtrades: prolly @sledger
[2016-01-06 19:31:57] sleger : Didnt I just tell you 3 times over the past 2 days that mine is quoting 2k ?
[2016-01-06 19:54:57] zanza : Crude 33's :o
[2016-01-06 19:56:08] Swedishnut : yeah cheap gas for all since we have such a glut
[2016-01-06 20:17:52] lockhedge : What do you think, will these companies still believe in 2016 that "blockchain is great but we build our own without Bitcoin"? http://technical.ly/brooklyn/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2015/11/finservicesfeaturebtc.jpg
[2016-01-06 20:18:28] lockhedge : https://twitter.com/RobotFinance/status/684819732353183745
[2016-01-06 21:14:26] rapidtrades : noones selling
[2016-01-06 21:24:11] rapidtrades : Kinda surprising how the last rally ended huh? I would've expected a big crash like last time
[2016-01-06 21:25:35] sleger : Anyone besides me ever replies to you ?
[2016-01-06 21:25:52] tscha : I just wanted to... what rally?
[2016-01-06 21:26:29] rapidtrades : the one from 320 to 460
[2016-01-06 21:26:55] sleger : 310 to 475 ... don't you always use bitfinex as reference usually ?
[2016-01-06 21:31:38] rapidtrades : no okc
[2016-01-06 21:31:51] tscha : I use many exchanges as reference, finex is just one
[2016-01-06 21:31:54] tscha : of that rally.. ok
[2016-01-06 21:32:24] rapidtrades : finex is prolly better if ur hedging or arbing here....for some reason the index doesn't like okc
[2016-01-06 21:32:58] rapidtrades : it's most of the volume for spot usd but gets like 15- 20% most of the time
[2016-01-06 21:36:44] tscha : this is because the okc price is less in line with other exchanges most of the time, that's why it gets deweighted
[2016-01-06 21:38:26] rapidtrades : that would explain it...still doesn't make a lot of sense...volume should trump other factors imo
[2016-01-06 21:40:48] micmix : not sure why they are using tradeblock index, they should use the entry price of my XBT24H position instead. that way I will never be in red :-)
[2016-01-06 21:43:21] sleger : I'd rather have them use 1/2 bitfinex + 1/2 okcoin usd than this index
[2016-01-06 21:43:38] rapidtrades : agreed
[2016-01-06 21:44:23] rapidtrades : but weren't u complaining when I shat on coinbase&stamp?
[2016-01-06 21:44:44] tscha : i like stamp... but itbit is pretty pointless in this index
[2016-01-06 21:45:38] rapidtrades : low volume high fees. verification...stamp is pretty shitty
[2016-01-06 21:46:42] micmix : looks like another slow day :-( I have only 42 trades since the settlement
[2016-01-06 21:47:30] rapidtrades : dam that seems really low for MM?
[2016-01-06 21:49:12] micmix : considering that my bot was counterparty to over 90% of all taker orders that's very low
[2016-01-06 21:49:34] rapidtrades : lol....sounds about right
[2016-01-06 21:49:41] micmix : (talking about XBT24H)
[2016-01-06 21:49:44] rapidtrades : been waiting to get my bids filled all day
[2016-01-06 21:50:15] rapidtrades : HERE's a discount.....there's just ONE problem
[2016-01-06 22:17:37] sleger : My bot didnt do one trade, and on high volume days it's about 10% of volume
[2016-01-06 22:18:36] tscha : my bot did like 10-15, but maker only
[2016-01-06 22:28:06] micmix : just to compare, the similar bot running on okc btc/cny does about 20 trades per minute
[2016-01-06 22:28:33] micmix : on a slow day like today
[2016-01-06 22:29:01] tscha : micmix: is it harder for you to make profit on okc btc/cny or here?
[2016-01-06 22:29:42] tscha : I know there are no fees on okc.cn, but isn't it pretty competetive compared to here?
[2016-01-06 22:29:53] tscha : competitive*
[2016-01-06 22:30:10] micmix : the profit as a % of volume is much lower on okc than here
[2016-01-06 22:30:35] micmix : but of course the volumes are much higher on okc
[2016-01-06 22:31:35] tscha : I am thinking about letting my bot trade on okc.cn.. would need to implement fix though, which would take some time for a programming-noob like me
[2016-01-06 22:32:25] micmix : are you using Java? there is a very good fix lib for Java: http://www.quickfixj.org/
[2016-01-06 22:33:58] micmix : there is a java sample on okc that uses quickfix: https://github.com/OKCoin/fix
[2016-01-06 22:34:18] micmix : ok, the link should be https://github.com/ O K Coin/fix
[2016-01-06 22:36:07] tscha : micmix: yeah I am using java. that looks very nice, thank you
[2016-01-06 22:36:53] tscha : if I actually do trade there, this will save me many many hours
[2016-01-06 22:37:10] micmix : Should be very easy to port your bot to okc using quickfix. I'm using quickfix port to C#, it's very good
[2016-01-06 22:38:09] tscha : Very cool. Well I am currently rewriting my bot completely. Reading a good book about code structure atm and realized my code is a pain in the ass to maintain.

[2016-01-07 03:26:41] Swedishnut : Think it will likely be echoed in other markets might not be 5% but likely over 3%

[2016-01-07 03:33:16] Swedishnut : Guy at church does futures on the US Markets mostly individual stocks but said ending 1990 and having broke below already was a terrible sign for bulls
[2016-01-07 03:34:08] rapidtrades : yeah it's technically bad but US markets have bounced back before...we'll see
[2016-01-07 03:34:26] rapidtrades : shorting a multi-year bull trend is rarely a good idea
[2016-01-07 03:34:58] Swedishnut : with leadership yes but the pres race is far from settled and the lame duck in office won't make necessary changes. thus expect NO CHANGE.
[2016-01-07 03:36:00] rapidtrades : no change is needed...nothing is wrong with the US economy except for the energy sector
[2016-01-07 03:37:44] Swedishnut : well what of smart cars requiring no driver, = no taxi drivers, BTC replaces settlements = far fewer lawyers and bankers, 20% of all world jobs lost to innovation. We need to still supply for people meaning have all the needs available to be met with compensation/settlement of claim
[2016-01-07 03:41:39] Swedishnut : with BTC being the best asset of 2015 at the minimum through crisis this year people will diversify in part to the best of last year to at least do well this year maybe not best 2 years in a row but better than most yet.

[2016-01-07 04:55:17] BitMEX_Arthur : use the pboc fixing
[2016-01-07 04:55:45] rapidtrades : PBOC lags the market
[2016-01-07 04:55:46] BitMEX_Arthur : but I guess all depends on what your bank quotes
[2016-01-07 04:55:57] sleger : rapidtrades: are you using 11=14 as well ?
[2016-01-07 04:56:24] BitMEX_Arthur : my usdcny rate is closer to pboc

[2016-01-07 08:55:20] tscha : >According to the rules, "institutional investors that built large stakes in the market over time will not be restricted in their sales," said Oliver Barron. Why is that so? It doesn't say in the article. When does this rule apply exactly?

[2016-01-07 08:56:45] tscha : According to that quote, there has to be a specific rule that exempts these investors from the restrictions, even on the primary market.
