This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2015-12-11 20:57:33] habibi : ah good, there were massive liq before
[2015-12-11 20:57:34] godweensatan : it wasn't on bitmex, just in general
[2015-12-11 20:57:36] BitMEX_Sam : We'll be exposing more of that later on
[2015-12-11 20:57:44] habibi : 200k
[2015-12-11 20:57:52] BitMEX_Sam : godweensatan: Sure - well we've been seeing a lot of txs take longer in general
[2015-12-11 20:57:56] BitMEX_Sam : especially with p2sh addresses
[2015-12-11 20:57:57] godweensatan : normal fee. like 2 cents

[2015-12-11 20:58:24] jung1 : BitMEX_Sam: what about some fee discount for old members?

[2015-12-11 20:58:27] BitMEX_Sam : I think the days of 0.0001 fee txs confirming immediately are nearly over
[2015-12-11 20:58:54] BitMEX_Sam : jung1: We used to do something like that, we have the calculation code in place
[2015-12-11 20:59:02] BitMEX_Sam : It might come back
[2015-12-11 20:59:13] BitMEX_Sam : We chose a few months back to just radically simplify the fee structure
[2015-12-11 21:02:42] jung1 : ALL HAIL BITMEX
[2015-12-11 21:03:12] habibi : BitMEX_Sam: ll u be later on irc?

[2015-12-11 21:04:40] REKT : Liquidated long on XBT24H: Sell 1000 @ 454.69

[2015-12-11 21:16:42] TschavaTschigger : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9-Te-DPbSE
[2015-12-11 21:19:08] godweensatan : looks like the price headed for the chopper and it's halfway to mars
[2015-12-11 21:23:20] REKT : Liquidated long on XBT24H: Sell 700 @ 450.29
[2015-12-11 21:25:13] micmix : was just checking the logs, have you guys seen this one: Liquidated short on XBT24H: Buy 224160 @ 451.85 <b>MEGA-REKT</b>
[2015-12-11 21:25:24] habibi : yep
[2015-12-11 21:25:25] TschavaTschigger : micmix: yes I was wondering.. how is that possible?
[2015-12-11 21:25:31] habibi : i thought ur mm bot get crazy
[2015-12-11 21:26:06] micmix : it's real, here is logged API response: { id: 'e005cc37-641e-791e-ddd8-1baf683b4313', symbol: 'XBT24H', side: 'Buy', qty: 224160, price: 451.85 }
[2015-12-11 21:26:33] cekseh : 11.52btc worth of margin thrown away
[2015-12-11 21:26:34] cekseh : wups
[2015-12-11 21:26:56] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah, that was real.
[2015-12-11 21:27:24] TschavaTschigger : who would purposely enter such a large position... especially without proper margin control :D
[2015-12-11 21:27:35] habibi : BitMEX_Sam: account wiped right?
[2015-12-11 21:27:52] BitMEX_Sam : Can't comment on a customer's financials
[2015-12-11 21:27:59] habibi : word :)
[2015-12-11 21:28:06] habibi : lets say it was willy bot then :p
[2015-12-11 21:28:13] micmix : maybe someone's MM left with not enough capital
[2015-12-11 21:28:23] cekseh : Nice to see people are willing to take those larger positions on bitmex
[2015-12-11 21:28:28] habibi : there were 5k sell orders all over the way
[2015-12-11 21:28:34] habibi : i think it was this bot partialy
[2015-12-11 21:28:48] habibi : people were closing longs on that :)
[2015-12-11 21:29:00] TschavaTschigger : must be a coding bug then... or am I missing something
[2015-12-11 21:29:05] micmix : I'm sure someone posting 5-6k order has more than enough margin
[2015-12-11 21:29:29] habibi : at 200k, 3 dollars move is additional 11 btc margin required
[2015-12-11 21:31:02] micmix : maybe it's spare change for someone :-)
[2015-12-11 21:32:02] TschavaTschigger : either something bugged or someone rich toying with playmoney
[2015-12-11 21:32:07] cekseh : It certainly is, just kinda awkward trying to manuvre positions that size on bitmex still
[2015-12-11 21:32:26] cekseh : not bugged, just people with more money than you
[2015-12-11 21:33:01] TschavaTschigger : more money willing to lose*
[2015-12-11 21:33:22] cekseh : No such thing as play money, as long as people give it value and you can buy things with it
[2015-12-11 21:33:24] cekseh : =)
[2015-12-11 21:33:44] micmix : I did a presentation to one hedge fund last week, they were interested in bitcoin trading. One slide was 30-day trading volumes, and they asked if those are daily volumes :-) ppl live in different world
[2015-12-11 21:35:16] TschavaTschigger : I had a course at university where our lecturer came late 45. minutes... he said he had to drive off the highway to close a 250 million deal on the phone :D
[2015-12-11 21:35:55] TschavaTschigger : that guy worked at unicredit... couple of months later they announced couple of billions loss
[2015-12-11 21:36:00] TschavaTschigger : everybody in our course was laughing
[2015-12-11 21:37:01] micmix : lol
[2015-12-11 21:37:05] TschavaTschigger : they truly live in a different world
[2015-12-11 21:43:22] j8 : BitMEX_Sam: am i right in thinking the liquidation orders are sometimes grouped together if multiple happen at once? i.e. the 200k might have been multiple accounts?
[2015-12-11 21:43:42] habibi : j8: yep u could notice it when there was that big one and another 40k or sth
[2015-12-11 21:51:08] BitMEX_Sam : Yes sometimes the prices line up, but they would have different liquidation IDs
[2015-12-11 21:54:06] j8 : i see
[2015-12-11 21:59:31] TschavaTschigger : i am curious how much revenue/profit bitmex makes. pretty sure arthur doesn't wanna announce that... maybe I will calculate overall fees tomorrow if I'm bored :P
[2015-12-11 21:59:42] cengel : is there a php API connector that has json-decoded outputs ready to use? can't find one on the github
[2015-12-11 22:00:12] cengel : the swagger client seems more confusing than just a normal one
[2015-12-11 22:00:26] BitMEX_Sam : Hey cengel, long time no see
[2015-12-11 22:00:31] BitMEX_Sam : Let me see if I can get you something simple
[2015-12-11 22:01:00] cengel : Hi :) Not so active in the chats these days, its too busy usualy now!
[2015-12-11 22:01:25] cengel : I'm waiting for BVOL to make its comeback, those were the days
[2015-12-11 22:01:56] BitMEX_Sam : :) BVOL is a difficult instrument to trade, but it's always interesting
[2015-12-11 22:02:16] cengel : i hope people have gotten good use from my mIRC API connector
[2015-12-11 22:03:01] jung1 : yes
[2015-12-11 22:03:48] cengel : :D
[2015-12-11 22:05:38] BitMEX_Sam : cengel: I actually don't see any simple Swagger-compatible PHP libs... you may have to work with composer if you want to use it
[2015-12-11 22:06:17] BitMEX_Sam : Or just make raw http calls and parse the json
[2015-12-11 22:06:17] cengel : i'm not trying to do anything complex just grab some /instrument fields.
[2015-12-11 22:06:18] justinlooking : hello everyboxy!"
[2015-12-11 22:06:24] justinlooking : gues whose wasted!
[2015-12-11 22:06:25] cengel : yea i guess i'll just parse the json myself
[2015-12-11 22:06:37] cengel : thought maybe there was already something handy no problem though
[2015-12-11 22:06:46] justinlooking : dat 3k tho!
[2015-12-11 22:07:08] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah, sorry about that, nothing plug and play (at least nothing really simple)
[2015-12-11 22:07:37] TschavaTschigger : justinlooking: haha welcome D:
[2015-12-11 22:08:36] cengel : no problem! can easily work with it
[2015-12-11 22:12:31] justinlooking : YO TschavaTschigger, u ok m8? seeing epic volume here
[2015-12-11 22:13:37] TschavaTschigger : justinlooking: yeah i am very fine... love that volume
[2015-12-11 22:14:15] TschavaTschigger : yesterday I had 350k volume, maybe I get 500k today
[2015-12-11 22:15:16] justinlooking : 350k holy shit, that is awesome bro :)
[2015-12-11 22:15:27] j8 : contracts are worth around $2 now. 500k is a million bucks
[2015-12-11 22:16:03] TschavaTschigger : j8: that sounds a lot.. cool
[2015-12-11 22:17:43] j8 : yeah, what did you do today, "oh nothing, traded a million dollars of bitcoin futures"
[2015-12-11 22:18:31] TschavaTschigger : this really sounds insane... especially considering the fact I only have 4 btc on my account right now :D
[2015-12-11 22:18:41] j8 : yeah hilarious
[2015-12-11 22:18:43] justinlooking : lol
[2015-12-11 22:18:47] TschavaTschigger : gotta love that leverage
[2015-12-11 22:19:43] TschavaTschigger : I could do the same with 1 btc btw, i never have positions over 10k
[2015-12-11 22:19:46] habibi : how u sum up whole volume? i mean files from tradehistory shows only 1 page of tx
[2015-12-11 22:20:12] TschavaTschigger : habibi: you can click on "next page" and download multiple csvs... then add them up with good old copy&paste
[2015-12-11 22:20:57] justinlooking : `cat file1 file2 > combinedfile`
[2015-12-11 22:21:23] TschavaTschigger : waiting for BitMEX_Sam to implement something were we can see our 24h volume :P
[2015-12-11 22:21:50] justinlooking : what happened to rapid?
[2015-12-11 22:22:19] TschavaTschigger : good question... no clue
[2015-12-11 22:22:29] nickhnt : he's banned
[2015-12-11 22:22:30] TschavaTschigger : I guess he ran out of money
[2015-12-11 22:22:36] nickhnt : from chat
[2015-12-11 22:22:40] TschavaTschigger : nickhnt: really? oO why
[2015-12-11 22:22:48] nickhnt : for cursing everyone lol
[2015-12-11 22:23:12] nickhnt : lack of manners
[2015-12-11 22:23:53] j8 : the guy was just starting to grow on me too.
[2015-12-11 22:24:02] nickhnt : he was a good indicator though
[2015-12-11 22:24:03] nickhnt : lol
[2015-12-11 22:24:19] podizzler3k : cengel whats the link for the mirc api
[2015-12-11 22:24:22] TschavaTschigger : yeah I was about to implement inverse rapid-logic using regex'es for my bot
[2015-12-11 22:24:32] nickhnt : hahahaha nice
[2015-12-11 22:24:40] j8 : now how are we gonna know if this is the top guyz
[2015-12-11 22:25:07] podizzler3k : pretty sure he said this place sucked and he went to bitfinex

[2015-12-11 22:34:49] TschavaTschigger : actually i am hoping for up- and downswings.. one-directional is not good for my bot

[2015-12-11 22:50:27] zanza : how does one even accumulate 200k on the 24h
[2015-12-11 22:50:29] justinlooking : "View archive"
[2015-12-11 22:50:32] justinlooking : ?
[2015-12-11 22:50:46] habibi : it wasnt that hard today
[2015-12-11 22:50:49] justinlooking : shall i lift the finex offer? chinese giving me fear
[2015-12-11 22:50:56] habibi : he was giving people liquidity to open long
[2015-12-11 22:51:21] j8 : the real question is, why does one short 200k contracts in an uptrend with not enough margin...
[2015-12-11 22:52:04] habibi : enought margin, u know with 200k every 4 dollars u need another 11 btc
[2015-12-11 22:52:29] habibi : or even 3 dollars due to liquidation dont take place at 200%,its ealier
[2015-12-11 22:52:56] zanza : wow
[2015-12-11 22:53:14] habibi : or i am wrong people? probally not.
[2015-12-11 22:53:28] j8 : 200k would be 2 btc per dollar
[2015-12-11 22:53:59] zanza : i had a big liquidation short at like 370
[2015-12-11 22:54:08] habibi : so 4 dollars max move or maybe 3.x $
[2015-12-11 22:54:09] zanza : looking back, now that we are at 450, its a lot better
[2015-12-11 22:54:25] zanza : i dont feel as bad
[2015-12-11 22:54:27] habibi : micmix u there?
[2015-12-11 22:54:40] j8 : then if you're liquidated you lose another $2 worth of price, or 4 btc
[2015-12-11 22:55:24] j8 : $2.25, 4.5 btc at 450 price
[2015-12-11 22:59:28] godweensatan : what's the hold up? where's 500?
[2015-12-11 23:00:37] habibi : at march contracts
[2015-12-11 23:00:58] j8 : BTC/CAD is over $600
[2015-12-11 23:04:25] godweensatan : well hurry up
[2015-12-11 23:05:15] justinlooking : godweensatan: be patient
[2015-12-11 23:06:49] justinlooking : we are almost +50% in 30 days
[2015-12-11 23:13:27] justinlooking : FUCK
[2015-12-11 23:14:02] REKT : Liquidated short on XBT24H: Buy 10000 @ 456.56 <b>MEGA-REKT</b>
[2015-12-11 23:14:16] SnackyCoins : wow
[2015-12-11 23:14:24] SnackyCoins : can't believe people play hands that large on isolated
[2015-12-11 23:14:40] macios15 : just the scale
[2015-12-11 23:14:40] sleger : free moneyyyyyy
[2015-12-11 23:15:23] SnackyCoins : it's not that it's so big, but 100x i mean damn
[2015-12-11 23:15:59] SnackyCoins : not that i am complaining... glad to have the money at the table 8)
[2015-12-11 23:20:16] j8 : at that point you know the only way out of your position is settlement or liquidation
[2015-12-11 23:21:22] micmix : habibi: here, was AFK
[2015-12-11 23:21:44] habibi : i forgot what i wanted ask u :)
[2015-12-11 23:21:56] jung1 : so 3k today?
[2015-12-11 23:21:59] sleger : if the liq was him i think ?
[2015-12-11 23:22:09] sleger : thats what you wanted to ask, but i doubt it
[2015-12-11 23:23:03] micmix : not me, I'm never leveraged more than 4x-5x
[2015-12-11 23:23:27] micmix : usually it's below 2x
[2015-12-11 23:24:15] sleger : people assumed some bot went nuts
[2015-12-11 23:25:11] micmix : all MMs that I can detect still here
[2015-12-11 23:25:54] sleger : micmix: can you detect mine ?
[2015-12-11 23:27:24] habibi : ah micmix please add to ur bot a ath of contracts leverage :p like "WOW NEW REKT RECORD - xxx k contracts" :p
[2015-12-11 23:29:56] SnackyCoins : new rektord
[2015-12-11 23:30:26] habibi : World Guiness REktord book
[2015-12-11 23:32:57] micmix : sleger: probably not if it's stealthy enough, need to spend money and hit bids/asks to detect properly
[2015-12-11 23:33:56] jung1 : cheap coins
[2015-12-11 23:34:00] jung1 : 2988 on huobi
[2015-12-11 23:34:04] micmix : habibi: yeah, good idea, I'll do something like that
[2015-12-11 23:34:36] jung1 : here we go!
[2015-12-11 23:34:41] justinlooking : pushhhhhh
[2015-12-11 23:35:10] TschavaTschigger : justinlooking: are you trading wasted :D nice
[2015-12-11 23:35:35] zanza : micmix: does your rekt bot do twitter feeds?
[2015-12-11 23:35:59] micmix : zanza: no, just posts to chat
[2015-12-11 23:35:59] justinlooking : TschavaTschigger: i missed the453s by a gnat's whisker
[2015-12-11 23:36:12] zanza : micmix: you should have like 10k minimum post to Twitter
[2015-12-11 23:36:28] zanza : would be cool =]
[2015-12-11 23:37:24] micmix : REKT account that tweets liquidations from BitMEX and OKC? interesting...
[2015-12-11 23:37:38] SnackyCoins : @whalecalls already does okc
[2015-12-11 23:37:43] micmix : ah, ok
[2015-12-11 23:37:50] justinlooking : if this doesn't hit 3k in next few mins i'll let rapid bang my mum
[2015-12-11 23:38:38] jung1 : depend if his mum let him do it
[2015-12-11 23:42:10] justinlooking : hmmm can't belive i wrote it
[2015-12-11 23:42:25] jung1 : I made screen already
[2015-12-11 23:43:31] justinlooking : okc bal not enough :-(
[2015-12-11 23:44:39] justinlooking : oh noes - justinloo sick
[2015-12-11 23:45:48] messiaen8844 : BULLS vs THE MOON: round two, fight!
[2015-12-11 23:46:22] laisee : i have some python code for writing to twitter
[2015-12-11 23:47:19] laisee : can tidy up and post github link later
[2015-12-11 23:48:16] TschavaTschigger : on reddit there was a guy that wrote a twitter bot that retweeted contest-tweets :D he won a lot of prices
[2015-12-11 23:48:34] sleger : or just use https://code.google.com/p/python-twitter/
[2015-12-11 23:48:51] TschavaTschigger : did the same thing, won a lot too but 99% crap.. like concert tickets somewhere in the US, of a band I have never heard before :D
[2015-12-11 23:49:13] micmix : I'm using node, lots of twitter modules available
[2015-12-11 23:50:33] jung1 : damn its quite good idea
[2015-12-11 23:50:51] micmix : never got into python, I love my curly braces :-)
[2015-12-11 23:50:59] TschavaTschigger : jung1: not really. you end up with crap that you don't want.. so it's basically useless
[2015-12-11 23:51:24] laisee : thats what all the c coders say ...
[2015-12-11 23:52:18] jung1 : 3k another try
[2015-12-11 23:52:20] micmix : yeah, I was doing c++ for 20+ years, still write c++ from time to time
[2015-12-11 23:52:41] TschavaTschigger : 20+ years? holy shit
[2015-12-11 23:52:50] micmix : yeah, I'm old :-)
[2015-12-11 23:53:11] TschavaTschigger : 20 years ago I was doing lego not c++
[2015-12-11 23:53:13] laisee : was doing c/c++, then last 7-8 years in c-sharp
[2015-12-11 23:53:26] habibi : not old, just experienced :)
[2015-12-11 23:53:53] micmix : same here, mostly c# and javascript now, some f# here and there
[2015-12-11 23:54:23] TschavaTschigger : nobody doing java here?
[2015-12-11 23:54:45] BitMEX_Sam : Not anymore, thankfully
[2015-12-11 23:54:52] messiaen8844 : only some javascript ;)
[2015-12-11 23:54:58] jung1 : 3000
[2015-12-11 23:55:00] micmix : java has curly braces but I hate it since college :-)
[2015-12-11 23:55:01] jung1 : !!!!!!
[2015-12-11 23:55:02] justinlooking : only at work :(
[2015-12-11 23:55:03] laisee : whats java?
[2015-12-11 23:55:13] BitMEX_Sam : Hah curly braces are far from the worst part of java.
[2015-12-11 23:55:24] TschavaTschigger : BitMEX_Sam: why do you hate java :O
[2015-12-11 23:55:26] BitMEX_Sam : Personally I dislike whitespace languages anyhow
[2015-12-11 23:55:36] messiaen8844 : sell wall @ 3000
[2015-12-11 23:55:47] 24hourz : python is so clean looking. I kind of loved php
[2015-12-11 23:55:48] habibi : where messiaen8844?
[2015-12-11 23:55:49] micmix : another curly braces fan, Sam?
[2015-12-11 23:56:00] laisee : ... java seems like a lot of typing for my poor fingers
[2015-12-11 23:56:09] BitMEX_Sam : TschavaTschigger: Too many reasons to count, but it mainly centers around a painful dev cycle, slow startup, an inability to get simple things done easily (inexpressive) and a useless type system
[2015-12-11 23:56:19] messiaen8844 : appeared for a second. then went out. 2000 BTC. Could be fake
[2015-12-11 23:56:20] BitMEX_Sam : micmix: Yeah.
[2015-12-11 23:56:33] BitMEX_Sam : explicit > implicit, always in my book
[2015-12-11 23:56:49] TschavaTschigger : my bot here runs on java :P
[2015-12-11 23:57:13] BitMEX_Sam : It's just a tool like anything else. Just because it's not my favorite tool doesn't mean nobody should use it
[2015-12-11 23:57:39] BitMEX_Sam : And it does quite well at its main purpose, which is preventing coders large shops from breaking anything, by preventing them from getting anything done
[2015-12-11 23:58:12] 24hourz : BitMex_Sam, you are talking about java right ?
[2015-12-11 23:58:24] justinlooking : BitMEX_Sam: what's ur engine written in?
[2015-12-11 23:58:25] micmix : BitMEX_Sam: you are speaking like someone with experience working at some large bank
[2015-12-11 23:58:37] justinlooking : (if don't mind me asking)
[2015-12-11 23:58:45] 24hourz : justinlooking: +1
[2015-12-11 23:58:46] laisee : its good language for 1/2 decent coders, can't blow up. c++ not so much ...
[2015-12-11 23:59:12] justinlooking : REKT incoming...
[2015-12-11 23:59:21] 24hourz : golang if I need something with the performance of a compiled lang
[2015-12-11 23:59:26] jung1 : up or down ?
[2015-12-11 23:59:30] jung1 : Im out
[2015-12-11 23:59:30] justinlooking : UP
[2015-12-11 23:59:39] TschavaTschigger : laisee: yeah, like me... i am noob-coder and I enjoy java a lot :D
[2015-12-12 00:00:11] laisee : TschavaTschigger: > which is cool. everyone starts with something
[2015-12-12 00:00:19] BitMEX_Sam : 24hourz: Yeah, Java
[2015-12-12 00:00:34] BitMEX_Sam : justinlooking: Q (kdb+): http://kx.com/software.php
[2015-12-12 00:01:01] BitMEX_Sam : micmix: Gov contracting back in the day, and a few other large Java projects... had enough
[2015-12-12 00:01:07] messiaen8844 : 3000taken. most beaultifl daily candle ever
[2015-12-12 00:01:14] TschavaTschigger : yeah I guess so... well did some matlab before so technically it wasn't my first language.. oh and I coded a poker-bot like 6 years ago in openholdem :D
[2015-12-12 00:01:34] 24hourz : BitMEX_Sam: I knew you were talking about that. I work in a corporate style place and the tech stack is meant to make you move slow and not break stuff. I miss my startup days
[2015-12-12 00:01:54] micmix : BitMEX_Sam: yeah, I did some consulting for Java shops, it was a nightmare, can't get anything done
[2015-12-12 00:02:06] BitMEX_Sam : 24hourz: Yeah. And to a certain degree, that's legit, you have to avoid regressions at all cost
[2015-12-12 00:02:22] BitMEX_Sam : It's a balancing act
[2015-12-12 00:02:41] BitMEX_Sam : What frustrates me about Java is that its type system is almost good enough but not quite, you can still footgun all day long
[2015-12-12 00:03:37] micmix : Are you familiar with C#? MS greatly improved all Java ideas, now even Javascript borrows from C#
[2015-12-12 00:03:56] 24hourz : BitMEX_Sam: I know the give and take. It makes sense in that environment. I just enjoy having the ability to design something from the ground up. I also prefer the more modern and "hippy" workflows and languages. I hate being stuck on a windows box
[2015-12-12 00:04:12] laisee : CS is cool, lots of functional stuff now.
[2015-12-12 00:04:12] BitMEX_Sam : micmix: Yeah, I hear nothing but good things about C#/F#
[2015-12-12 00:04:20] BitMEX_Sam : Certainly enjoying aync/await, we use it all over BitMEX
[2015-12-12 00:04:50] micmix : yep, async/away is awesome, and LINQ as well
[2015-12-12 00:05:27] sleger : BitMEX_Sam: C# is windows bound -> terrible choice
[2015-12-12 00:05:45] jung1 : drop?
[2015-12-12 00:06:02] REKT : Liquidated long on XBT24H: Sell 3000 @ 457.53
[2015-12-12 00:06:04] justinlooking : sleger: i agree - mono is fucking useless in my experience
[2015-12-12 00:06:04] BitMEX_Sam : Not completely, but I agree with your aversion to Microsoft products
[2015-12-12 00:06:21] sleger : not ms in general
[2015-12-12 00:06:28] micmix : new .NET core runs on Mac and Linux, still in beta though
[2015-12-12 00:06:30] messiaen8844 : jung1: double top, needs a higher support before conquering3300 maybe
[2015-12-12 00:06:32] REKT : Liquidated long on XBT24H: Sell 61 @ 456.26
[2015-12-12 00:06:36] sleger : but NOONE uses windows for HFT
[2015-12-12 00:06:47] BitMEX_Sam : Sure, why would they
[2015-12-12 00:06:48] messiaen8844 : as in an ascendingtriangle
[2015-12-12 00:07:03] sleger : they may to use C#, because it is a great language
[2015-12-12 00:07:13] habibi : micmix: and u could do min size for rekt bot, like 1k contracts. we dont care about rapidtrades 61 contracts getting liquidated
[2015-12-12 00:07:14] sleger : even if it hurts me to say it :)
[2015-12-12 00:07:42] REKT : Liquidated long on XBT24H: Sell 500 @ 454.72
[2015-12-12 00:07:42] REKT : Liquidated long on XBT24H: Sell 14152 @ 454.88 <b>MEGA-REKT</b>
[2015-12-12 00:07:43] laisee : micmix: > does ms have new .net runtime on osx, linux?
[2015-12-12 00:07:45] sleger : habibi: come on, we all know he was the 1 lot getting rekt the other day, 61 .... tss tss
[2015-12-12 00:07:52] REKT : Liquidated long on XBT24H: Sell 6878 @ 454.66
[2015-12-12 00:07:52] REKT : Liquidated long on XBT24H: Sell 200 @ 454.71
[2015-12-12 00:07:52] REKT : Next stop - goblin town
[2015-12-12 00:07:52] REKT : Liquidated long on XBT24H: Sell 1 @ 454.69
[2015-12-12 00:08:07] sleger : there he goes again
[2015-12-12 00:08:32] REKT : Liquidated long on XBT24H: Sell 2039 @ 453.37
[2015-12-12 00:08:45] micmix : laisee: yes, new runtime build from scratch, not based on mono
[2015-12-12 00:08:59] justinlooking : interesting
[2015-12-12 00:09:23] TschavaTschigger : sleger: what you mean is algorithmic trading
[2015-12-12 00:09:30] laisee : wow, new CEO is really changing stuff'
[2015-12-12 00:09:31] TschavaTschigger : hft is something else, they don't use c or c++
[2015-12-12 00:09:39] sleger : TschavaTschigger: no I mean HFT which is a subpart of algo trading
[2015-12-12 00:09:53] sleger : TschavaTschigger: ???? of course they use c or c++
[2015-12-12 00:10:18] justinlooking : i thought pro HFT compiled to prolog and used ASICs or some shit
[2015-12-12 00:10:31] sleger : ah ok, some parts do
[2015-12-12 00:10:35] laisee : TschavaTschigger: > they use brain waves for "hft"?
[2015-12-12 00:10:43] sleger : but most dont even use fpga
[2015-12-12 00:10:50] micmix : algo trading includes everything, some algos place one order a week. you can use anything for algo trading
[2015-12-12 00:11:41] micmix : hft is a different beast altogether
[2015-12-12 00:12:37] micmix : it's fun when you get to sue NYSE because the network cable running to your switch is 1m longer than they gave to your competitor :-)
[2015-12-12 00:12:54] sleger : some very successful HFT firm even uses java
[2015-12-12 00:13:09] sleger : for their whole system
[2015-12-12 00:13:26] messiaen8844 : REKT bot trlling now???22:07 - REKT: Next stop - goblin town
[2015-12-12 00:13:32] messiaen8844 : *trolling
[2015-12-12 00:13:55] micmix : yes, REKT bot having fun :-)
[2015-12-12 00:14:22] sleger : micmix: where are you based if you can say ?
[2015-12-12 00:14:36] habibi : anyone up for a cigarette?
[2015-12-12 00:15:02] TschavaTschigger : sleger: someone that works in that area told me that they use FPGA only.. and everything apart from that is supposedly not considered hft
[2015-12-12 00:15:12] justinlooking : habibi: drunk and blazing
[2015-12-12 00:15:18] TschavaTschigger : they get latencies down to 500-600ns
[2015-12-12 00:15:53] sleger : TschavaTschigger: bah they wanted to show off probably. I know most of the HFT firms and I know all the big ones, and very few use verilog/fpga, and when they do it is usually only in some parts of the system, not overall
[2015-12-12 00:16:35] TschavaTschigger : my guess is it depends on the market you are trading
[2015-12-12 00:17:05] sleger : like for market access, but a real algo on fpga doesnt make much sense, as it is then very hard to modify. And anyways markets themselves in their gateways have random noise that is way above 1micro, so getting less is kind of useless
[2015-12-12 00:17:09] laisee : TschavaTschigger: > what markets do these guys trade using FPGA?
[2015-12-12 00:17:17] TschavaTschigger : anyhow, 500ns is incredible
[2015-12-12 00:17:19] micmix : they might use custom networking with FPGA but algos are mostly C++
[2015-12-12 00:17:31] sleger : I know equity which is the highest frequency, and some others which are not as low latency
[2015-12-12 00:17:53] TschavaTschigger : laisee: I don't know unfortunately, I will ask him when I meet him again
[2015-12-12 00:18:09] sleger : the most latency competitive is US equity.
[2015-12-12 00:18:17] laisee : k. no prob.
[2015-12-12 00:18:29] sleger : I know guys who do 10% every day and they dont use any fpga at all
[2015-12-12 00:18:31] laisee : might make sense in some FX markets as it's purely reactive stuff, little analysis
[2015-12-12 00:18:31] TschavaTschigger : 0.0006 ms :D thats so crazy
[2015-12-12 00:18:45] sleger : FX is much less low latency than equity believe me
[2015-12-12 00:19:20] laisee : sleger: > i mean for using fpga
[2015-12-12 00:19:38] sleger : FX does not require fpga at all, i dont even know one vendor having those
[2015-12-12 00:20:14] sleger : I am not saying that noone uses fpga ever, but that all the biggest hfts dont and you can clearly do without
[2015-12-12 00:20:46] laisee : probably right, worked in few big banks and never heard anyone trying it.
