This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2017-03-25 01:46:39] micmix : Apocalyptic: bitcoin was designed as an immutable public ledger in trustless environment, everything else is coincidental. it could be anything with little tweaks, settlement layer, electronic cash, or birthday record database for that matter
[2017-03-25 01:47:11] zanza : Satoshi wanted electronic cash, did he say it ?
[2017-03-25 01:47:28] Apocalyptic : micmix: it could be anything that doesn't scale much given the inherent properties of the blockchain structure
[2017-03-25 01:47:43] Rado : It's way more than electronic cash
[2017-03-25 01:47:48] Apocalyptic : so yes a birthday record database fits
[2017-03-25 01:48:08] Rado : Apocalyptic: in a few years the scaling will not be an issue
[2017-03-25 01:48:09] Apocalyptic : an electronic cash used to buy coffee by 1 billion people everyday, not so much
[2017-03-25 01:48:54] micmix : yeah, electronic cash was in the paper's title but it's wan't really suitable for that, velocity too low
[2017-03-25 01:49:03] micmix : * it wasn't
[2017-03-25 01:49:15] startChat : SPV was in the whitepaper and that still is not built
[2017-03-25 01:49:17] startChat : need segwit
[2017-03-25 01:49:43] Apocalyptic : that's why LN and off-chain scaling is such a great idea
[2017-03-25 01:50:22] micmix : doesn't matter, simple fact that block data has to be transferred to all participants limits velocity. need 2nd layer for cash
[2017-03-25 01:50:38] Apocalyptic : ^ exactly
[2017-03-25 01:51:06] aethlios : place some bids march june 810-785 and sell the rally to 950.
[2017-03-25 01:51:44] zanza : BU people want second layer also
[2017-03-25 01:51:52] zanza : no one is trying to limit that
[2017-03-25 01:51:56] startChat : and they want >21 million
[2017-03-25 01:52:05] startChat : BU are trolls
[2017-03-25 01:52:15] zanza : link to source @startChat ?
[2017-03-25 01:52:22] Apocalyptic : zanza: other things are wrong with BU
[2017-03-25 01:52:56] Apocalyptic : I guess at this point it doesn't even matter
[2017-03-25 01:53:11] Apocalyptic : they have proved their tech team is utterly incompetent
[2017-03-25 01:53:33] startChat : What is important is the miners not looking long term

[2017-03-25 01:54:02] cg : @startChat you are the troll for spreading the 21m lie
[2017-03-25 01:56:16] cg : so some people that are associated with BU correctly analyze that the 21m limit, as any other limit, is only enforced by the community and could be changed if everybody agreed. Core trolls twist this into "BU trolls want to increase 21m limit"
[2017-03-25 01:56:32] zanza : Apocalyptic: core never had bugs?
[2017-03-25 01:56:40] cg : all of this is so childish, its laughable
[2017-03-25 01:57:17] Apocalyptic : zanza: I remember some, although most of them were due to legacy code left was satoshi
[2017-03-25 01:57:41] Apocalyptic : but you can't compare the level Core team has with BU's today
[2017-03-25 01:59:08] zanza : Core sees miners as the nemy
[2017-03-25 01:59:15] zanza : enemy
[2017-03-25 01:59:29] micmix : in any case the market will decide. enjoy the volatility and alts run
[2017-03-25 02:00:03] Apocalyptic : micmix: you're doing alts now ? :)
[2017-03-25 02:00:06] cg : all of this can be blamed on Core. If they would have listened to the actual community (that includes miners), they would have done SegWit with a 2MB hardfork and we would be fine right now
[2017-03-25 02:00:45] micmix : Apocalyptic: I do very little with alts
[2017-03-25 02:01:12] zanza : its stupid that both sides seem to be willing to not compromise
[2017-03-25 02:01:14] zanza : and everyone loses
[2017-03-25 02:01:27] cg : agreed
[2017-03-25 02:01:28] micmix : cg: agree, small blocksize increase plus segwit. segwit would be better as hard fork anyway.
[2017-03-25 02:01:37] zanza : cut off the nose to spite the face
[2017-03-25 02:01:39] startChat : cg: they did even better up 4Mb hard fork in segwit
[2017-03-25 02:02:01] Apocalyptic : zanza: I don't know about that, but it seems the miners see the bitcoin network as a endless cash cow they can milk, and when some change threatens a bit their bottom line they're willing to destroy it
[2017-03-25 02:02:18] zanza : what?
[2017-03-25 02:02:27] zanza : Miners voting for BU will lower fees
[2017-03-25 02:02:46] cg : why would a miner want to detroy their investment? that does not make any sense whatsoever
[2017-03-25 02:02:49] zanza : bigger block = lower fee
[2017-03-25 02:03:07] Apocalyptic : zanza: per tx perhaps, think about global fee per block
[2017-03-25 02:03:14] Apocalyptic : fee per tx is meaningless to miners
[2017-03-25 02:03:24] zanza : the mining subsidy?
[2017-03-25 02:03:30] Apocalyptic : no
[2017-03-25 02:04:07] Apocalyptic : if they thought bigger blocks would lower the overall fee income they wouldn't be so eager to vote for it
[2017-03-25 02:04:29] zanza : what?
[2017-03-25 02:04:41] Apocalyptic : seems we have a communication problem
[2017-03-25 02:04:55] zanza : if you have been in Bitcoin a bit, you would remember fee was never a problem, until the block is full
[2017-03-25 02:05:00] cg : bigger blocks will increase fee income
[2017-03-25 02:05:05] zanza : fee is just used to prioritize the limited space
[2017-03-25 02:05:15] Apocalyptic : cg: you get it
[2017-03-25 02:05:34] cg : as you can see right now, there is not unbound-fee demand for block space as users go to altcoins
[2017-03-25 02:05:36] zanza : Apocalyptic: how new are you to bitcoin ?
[2017-03-25 02:05:45] Apocalyptic : zanza: lol
[2017-03-25 02:05:54] zanza : what was the fee 2 years ago
[2017-03-25 02:05:57] zanza : before full block
[2017-03-25 02:05:59] Apocalyptic : I'm in since mid-late 2013
[2017-03-25 02:06:01] startChat : https://blockchain.info/charts/transaction-fees-usd
[2017-03-25 02:06:14] cg : so a low blocksize limit will not cause the fees to go to astronomical highs, rather users will abandon the coin
[2017-03-25 02:06:21] zanza : startChat: thank you
[2017-03-25 02:06:29] cg : aka bitcoin becomes the myspace of crypto
[2017-03-25 02:06:35] micmix : actually any solution that increases number of transactions will increase total fees per block that miners collect. not right away though
[2017-03-25 02:06:36] startChat : doge is facebook
[2017-03-25 02:06:38] startChat : but now
[2017-03-25 02:06:43] zanza : which is why Bitcoin is sub 70% market cap now
[2017-03-25 02:06:55] zanza : its like a bus saying "sorry, all full"
[2017-03-25 02:07:02] zanza : then someone calls an Uber
[2017-03-25 02:07:38] laisee : bitcoin is being facebooked now. moving to BU will slow that down a little.
[2017-03-25 02:07:46] cg : second layer solutions are important and needed, but there is absolutely no reason for the 1mb limit as technology and software improves
[2017-03-25 02:07:57] startChat : cg: do you run a full node?
[2017-03-25 02:08:05] cg : yes
[2017-03-25 02:08:17] Apocalyptic : cg: it's an incentive to have more people run full nodes
[2017-03-25 02:08:19] startChat : how many MB are u good with?
[2017-03-25 02:08:41] zanza : cg: 2nd layer is good, everyone wants it. @startChat Bitcoin is growing
[2017-03-25 02:08:45] micmix : I'm afraid bitcoin will be stuck with current consensus rules. segwit and bigger blocks will not happen
[2017-03-25 02:08:52] cg : I have a little dedicated server so I'd be good with 20mb+
[2017-03-25 02:08:54] Apocalyptic : and be able to bootstrap and sync one from scratch in a reasonable timeframe
[2017-03-25 02:08:59] zanza : i dont think its a good approach to just say "ok 2MB block size"
[2017-03-25 02:09:08] zanza : since then we have the same problem next year

[2017-03-25 02:09:20] laisee : hmmm. do ppl realize that Segwit activating will fork older clients from network.
[2017-03-25 02:09:22] Apocalyptic : micmix: that's a better outcome than going BU
[2017-03-25 02:09:33] startChat : laisee: false

[2017-03-25 02:09:48] startChat : false
[2017-03-25 02:09:53] zanza : laisee: yeah so much for "soft fork"
[2017-03-25 02:10:01] micmix : segwit is a forced update, would be better as hard fork
[2017-03-25 02:10:06] startChat : lol
[2017-03-25 02:10:07] javierstone : @bitmex_sam
[2017-03-25 02:10:10] startChat : forced for who?
[2017-03-25 02:10:19] laisee : older clients cannot relay blocks and miners will see their blocks orphaned
[2017-03-25 02:10:21] cg : @zanza disagree, 2MB hardfork would have shown that hard forks are ok to do and also that modest blocksize increases are not as dramatic as Core makes them out to be
[2017-03-25 02:10:28] zanza : i think SegWit + Big block is good option both sides should compromise on that. Keep Core dev team
[2017-03-25 02:10:33] startChat : cg: hard fork are not ok.
[2017-03-25 02:10:38] javierstone : why did my ripple contracts close
[2017-03-25 02:10:40] startChat : we are all adversaries
[2017-03-25 02:10:41] laisee : @micmix: I agree, more honest to do SW as hard fork
[2017-03-25 02:10:45] javierstone : they aren't listed in my fills section
[2017-03-25 02:10:53] Apocalyptic : laisee: why would a soft fork fork older clients ?
[2017-03-25 02:10:58] MikeHunt : javierstone: rekt?
[2017-03-25 02:11:00] cg : @startChat well, we agree to disagree then.
[2017-03-25 02:11:07] javierstone : nope

[2017-03-25 02:11:20] javierstone : ya
[2017-03-25 02:11:24] laisee : Apocalyptic: they will be isolated in a separate network partition. i.e. effective fork
[2017-03-25 02:11:40] zanza : Nullc actually added code to that that
[2017-03-25 02:11:46] Apocalyptic : afaik older clients will relay blocks just fine
[2017-03-25 02:11:54] Apocalyptic : they just won't relay the witness data
[2017-03-25 02:11:59] laisee : not true @Apocalyptic.
[2017-03-25 02:12:03] Apocalyptic : and they can't fully validate witness tys
[2017-03-25 02:12:06] Apocalyptic : *txs
[2017-03-25 02:12:09] startChat : laisee: read beyond headlines
[2017-03-25 02:12:16] laisee : not relaying witness data means their blocks are ignored
[2017-03-25 02:12:33] laisee : leading to an effective partition of network.
[2017-03-25 02:12:37] Apocalyptic : because it would look like ANYONE_CAN_SPEND outputs to then
[2017-03-25 02:12:46] laisee : yes, that too
[2017-03-25 02:12:51] Apocalyptic : if you're familiar with btc scripting
[2017-03-25 02:12:55] micmix : Apocalyptic: older clients see segwit transactions as "anyone can spend". no way to validate properly, so all businesses _have_ to be ready on day one
[2017-03-25 02:12:55] zanza : https://twitter.com/digitsu/status/845119600907866113
[2017-03-25 02:12:56] laisee : yes
[2017-03-25 02:13:11] Apocalyptic : micmix: yes indeed
[2017-03-25 02:13:26] cg : old nodes after SW has activated are no longer fully validating, so essentially worthless. They will "function" but they will be zombies which is arguably worse than doing a hard fork, because in a hard fork the operators of older nodes actually get painfully aware that the network rules have changed --> more honest update
[2017-03-25 02:13:27] Apocalyptic : they would have to rely on being served the correct chain
[2017-03-25 02:13:36] Apocalyptic : but they CAN relay it
[2017-03-25 02:13:40] Apocalyptic : that was my point
[2017-03-25 02:14:01] laisee : sorry if this is subjective view, but coding Segwit that way is anti-bitcoin and evil.

[2017-03-25 02:15:01] Rado : Longs not even getting paid enough on swap
[2017-03-25 02:15:09] Rado : what a shit show
[2017-03-25 02:15:24] laisee : Apocalyptic: +1
[2017-03-25 02:15:42] cg : I think SegWit as a hardfork and it not being sold as a scaling solution would have been activated today.
[2017-03-25 02:16:07] cg : @Rado what do you mean?
[2017-03-25 02:16:16] laisee : yes, what cg said. a little more honesty and a hard fork would have it activated nw
[2017-03-25 02:16:30] Rado : Funding fee should be 0.375%
[2017-03-25 02:16:39] cg : why?
[2017-03-25 02:16:48] Rado : I mean -.375
[2017-03-25 02:17:02] Rado : To encourage longs
[2017-03-25 02:17:14] Rado : otherwise swap is under spot price
[2017-03-25 02:17:57] cg : uh isnt this market driven?
[2017-03-25 02:18:17] Rado : It is
[2017-03-25 02:18:24] zanza : malleabilty fix isn't a huge problem now, main problem is full blocks.
[2017-03-25 02:18:31] Rado : read about it in the help section
[2017-03-25 02:19:18] Rado : zanza: core should do a hard fork to increase to 2 MB so they have more time for the other solutions
