This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2017-03-08 14:06:42] rapidtrades : *crickets*

[2017-03-08 14:07:08] vgck : bingbongfly: The current price vs it's lack of utlity
[2017-03-08 14:07:27] bingbongfly : vgck: dude, do you know what a ponzi is? A ponzi scheme requires an OPERATOR
[2017-03-08 14:07:28] -_- : time to rebuild 1200 support on stamp and bitfinex
[2017-03-08 14:07:31] bingbongfly : or someone at the top, profiting

[2017-03-08 14:07:47] amaru : thomaskikansha: RIP
[2017-03-08 14:08:02] bingbongfly : Kalman: yes but there is no organization or operator
[2017-03-08 14:08:03] KyllingLolsson : wall almost gone
[2017-03-08 14:08:03] vgck : bingbongfly: You are right, I am sorry, it's not a ponzi scheme, just tulip mania. Much better, carry on.
[2017-03-08 14:08:14] bingbongfly : vgck: yes, tulip mania definitily
[2017-03-08 14:08:36] bingbongfly : so uneducated it's insane
[2017-03-08 14:09:45] Kalman : bingbongfly: No operator, right. But early investor profits first hand. The earliest investor was Satoshi.
[2017-03-08 14:10:11] Kalman : vgck: rofl
[2017-03-08 14:11:40] bingbongfly : Kalman: yes, doesn't make it a fking ponzi
[2017-03-08 14:11:44] mendax090 : Kalman: In a Ponzi Scheme early investors are paid with the money invested from new investors. Satoshi hasn't spend his Bitcoins yet
[2017-03-08 14:11:45] amaru : this is satoshis ponzi
[2017-03-08 14:12:00] bingbongfly : early investors in facebook, google profited, are those ponzis haha xD
[2017-03-08 14:12:08] rapidtrades : THE BIGGEST PONZI OF ALL TIME
[2017-03-08 14:12:30] mendax090 : Kalman: Also, a Ponzi Scheme doesn't need a business or an idea... Bitcoin it's a very good project with firm fundamentals
[2017-03-08 14:12:45] mendax090 : is*
[2017-03-08 14:13:12] vgck : mendax090: It has no fundamentals and there are already better more useful + practical coins out there
[2017-03-08 14:13:17] Kalman : bingbongfly: FB etc. have a cash flow stream. BTC not.
[2017-03-08 14:13:40] mendax090 : vgck: What do you mean BTC has no fundamentals? Without BTC those other new coins wouldn't exist
[2017-03-08 14:13:47] Kalman : bingbongfly: so BTC are a kind of hot potato
[2017-03-08 14:14:08] bingbongfly : Kalman: just nonsense from you man..
[2017-03-08 14:14:19] daigo : Ponzi sells "stuff" that can be easily produced
[2017-03-08 14:14:23] daigo : bitcoin are NOT
[2017-03-08 14:14:24] mendax090 : Kalman: You're trying to think of BTC as a company when is not
[2017-03-08 14:14:29] daigo : same for tulips
[2017-03-08 14:14:49] vgck : mendax090: The only thing bitcoin has going for it is first to market, brand recognition, and the speculation that causes the bubbles. It had no real world use outside of the darknet. The price could drop to $100 and stay there and it would be natural
[2017-03-08 14:14:52] mendax090 : daigo: Ponzi doesn't even need to sell anything, as long as you pay early investors with the new money
[2017-03-08 14:14:53] daigo : the energy needed to produce a tulip was not comparable to the energy a tulip could buy
[2017-03-08 14:15:29] rapidtrades : shut the hell up daigo
[2017-03-08 14:15:31] mendax090 : vgck: Bitcoin is a payment system and a store of value. That's enough for it to have fundamentals
[2017-03-08 14:15:38] aguia7 : Kalman: The argument is, tell the person with education, like this: Pyramid is your head, you ass!
[2017-03-08 14:15:42] Kalman : mendax090: A stock may pay some dividend in the future, BTC itself doesnt. I need a future buyer to ...
[2017-03-08 14:15:43] daigo : in a Ponzi, you pay early investor by selling something to new investors
[2017-03-08 14:15:55] rapidtrades : lol @payment system
[2017-03-08 14:15:58] vgck : mendax090: Almost no one uses it as a payment system
[2017-03-08 14:16:02] rapidtrades : that has to be a joke
[2017-03-08 14:16:18] rapidtrades : THE MOST EXPENSIVE PAYMENT SYSTEM OF THEM ALL
[2017-03-08 14:16:22] Apocalyptic : mendax090: it's not a payment system
[2017-03-08 14:16:31] vgck : The high fees and complexity will ensure it's never used except for a small amount of enthusiasts
[2017-03-08 14:16:43] mendax090 : Bitcoin is a payment system, it sucks compared to the new technology, but still is a payment system and it is being used as such for the Darknet and other legit companies
[2017-03-08 14:16:44] daigo : in a ponzi you can sell an idea, a title, a contract, even a bitcoin.. but bitcoin is different because ANYONE can produce it by DOING A JOB (sustaining the network)
[2017-03-08 14:17:16] vgck : daigo: *wasting energy / performing useless hashes
[2017-03-08 14:17:18] mendax090 : Apocalyptic: As long as I can pay you with BTC, it will be considered a payment system
[2017-03-08 14:17:22] daigo : it sucks only because you see the buyer POV
[2017-03-08 14:17:32] Apocalyptic : mendax090: it's being used as such for NOW, because of the circumstances but it won't be for long
[2017-03-08 14:17:35] mendax090 : Kalman: Idk where you trying to get, BTC is not a company
[2017-03-08 14:17:40] daigo : the seller POV is different: a credit card is actually settled two months LATER
[2017-03-08 14:17:59] aguia7 : So say to those who said that bitcoin is ponzi: are you stupid anyway? Or are you kidding?
[2017-03-08 14:18:06] Apocalyptic : mendax090: I can use some wood as a boat, does that make it a boat ?
[2017-03-08 14:18:21] daigo : because of the frauds with credit cards... you can deny a payment two months later and the seller must prove he's correct
[2017-03-08 14:18:31] mendax090 : Apocalyptic: As long as it floats
[2017-03-08 14:19:03] daigo : aguia7: they simply don't understand bitcoin
[2017-03-08 14:19:04] mendax090 : Apocalyptic: Also, if you can pay me with wood, wood would be considered a payment systme
[2017-03-08 14:19:16] Apocalyptic : it floats on water sure, but there as superior boats
[2017-03-08 14:19:42] Ahhere : Kalman: to be fair Bernie madhoff started in 80s and ended in 2008 so 10 history doesn't make bitcoin less likely to be a Ponzi
[2017-03-08 14:19:42] Apocalyptic : and nowadays when you look at wood, you don't think about it as a boat
[2017-03-08 14:19:42] mendax090 : Apocalyptic: I'm not denying that BTC currently sucks. But it still works
[2017-03-08 14:20:00] Apocalyptic : in a couple years down it will be regarded the same way
[2017-03-08 14:20:06] Apocalyptic : I'm not saying it sucks btw
[2017-03-08 14:20:08] mendax090 : I think ETH is the only legit crypto right now
[2017-03-08 14:20:10] Kalman : mendax090: @daigo without the blockreward maintaining the network is unprofitable. Blocks are full. So fees have to rise 12x. Will anybody use it at this price?
[2017-03-08 14:20:14] Apocalyptic : it's just nit a payment system
[2017-03-08 14:20:29] daigo : vgck: it is not wasted energy because it makes it IMMUTABLE and CENSORSHIP resistant
[2017-03-08 14:20:32] Apocalyptic : it's a settlement layer/zero-trust store of value
[2017-03-08 14:20:39] .. : casinos use bitcoin as payment system just fine
[2017-03-08 14:20:40] .. : paypal doesnt want them
[2017-03-08 14:20:42] aguia7 : daigo: Good for us, when simple people understand. Bitcoin has already surpassed $ 10,000.
[2017-03-08 14:21:02] KyllingLolsson : /sentiment
[2017-03-08 14:21:03] vgck : daigo: Instead of pointless hashes it could be doing useful computation like other coins.
[2017-03-08 14:21:04] daigo : vgck: less energy would mean easier to change/trick/cheat/censor

[2017-03-08 14:21:30] mendax090 : Kalman: The network is currently not unprofitable, and the block issue will be resolved in the future. Even if it doesn't, it will still be used as a store of value
[2017-03-08 14:21:37] Ahhere : daigo: @aguia7 I explained to a friend the amount of hashpower and energy securing bitcoin he finally got it
[2017-03-08 14:21:57] Apocalyptic : " it will still be used as a store of value " you got it
[2017-03-08 14:22:09] vgck : aguia7: It might never reach $10k aside from a quick bubble. Bitcoin will eventually be replaced or the market value will be divided amongst multiple coins
[2017-03-08 14:22:13] Apocalyptic : you won't use it to buy a cup of coffee everyday
[2017-03-08 14:22:19] daigo : vgck: I can agree, if there are useful computations, a perfect bitcoin would do those
[2017-03-08 14:22:40] mendax090 : Apocalyptic: But you can currently use it as a payment system
[2017-03-08 14:22:42] .. : meh, IMO second layers like LN can be part of bitcoin too.. which means in the future bitcoin could be used for your coffee
[2017-03-08 14:22:55] Apocalyptic : mendax090: yes, but it's temporary
[2017-03-08 14:22:57] .. : but the ~10 min block system is obv not good for physical goods/payments
[2017-03-08 14:23:18] Apocalyptic : due to some circumstances as to how it was created and such
[2017-03-08 14:23:22] Ahhere : Maybe the blocksize debate is just a battle of which happens first and both scaling solutions will ultimately be employed
[2017-03-08 14:23:24] mendax090 : Apocalyptic: If BTC doesn't scale yes
[2017-03-08 14:23:27] daigo : the reason why people don't use it as a payment is JUST the waiting for a block to confirm it.. too much time compared to VISA
[2017-03-08 14:23:29] Kalman : mendax090: Thats another. Store of value while you have to constantly put energy/money in.
[2017-03-08 14:23:40] aguia7 : vgck: I totally disagree They said the same thing, when the bitcoin, was worth 1 usd.
[2017-03-08 14:23:51] daigo : but when people accepts the unconfirmed transaction, that's another story
[2017-03-08 14:23:54] mendax090 : Kalman: Miners are rewarded by the block, and also by users who tip miners
[2017-03-08 14:24:01] Apocalyptic : Kalman: so ?
[2017-03-08 14:24:09] mendax090 : Kalman: they ain't doing it for free
[2017-03-08 14:24:12] Apocalyptic : storing gold also requires throwing money at it
[2017-03-08 14:24:21] Apocalyptic : you pay the facility/the guard etc
[2017-03-08 14:24:33] Kalman : mendax090: they wont do it without profit
[2017-03-08 14:24:36] daigo : a VISA transaction is unconfirmed by definition (that's why is usually signed on paper... proof for future disputes)
[2017-03-08 14:24:36] Apocalyptic : there is no zero-cost way to safely store value
[2017-03-08 14:24:49] mendax090 : Kalman: Of course they won't
[2017-03-08 14:24:58] rullwull : it takes almost 30 days for visa to transfer funds @daigo
[2017-03-08 14:24:58] Kalman : mendax090: And blockreward is reducing ..
[2017-03-08 14:25:12] daigo : rullwull: exactly
[2017-03-08 14:25:16] mendax090 : Kalman: So users will have to tip more
[2017-03-08 14:25:21] Kalman : Apocalyptic: Not if you have it under your desk
[2017-03-08 14:25:36] Apocalyptic : Kalman: great security you got there
[2017-03-08 14:25:47] mendax090 : Kalman: And blockreward might be decreasing, but BTC price has been increasing, so no really a difference in profit
[2017-03-08 14:26:41] Apocalyptic : Kalman: let me know when you store 6-digit worth of gold under your desk
[2017-03-08 14:26:47] Kalman : mendax090: But thats the argument for a Ponzi. If you dont find future buyers you are left with bits and buytes
[2017-03-08 14:27:12] Ahhere : Kalman: same with any currency
[2017-03-08 14:27:13] mendax090 : Kalman: Do you understand how Ponzi's work?
[2017-03-08 14:27:36] Kalman : Apocalyptic: its a little over 2 kg
[2017-03-08 14:27:42] Kalman : 2.5
[2017-03-08 14:28:01] mendax090 : Kalman: A single guy attracts money and then pays the new investors with that money and continues the cycle.. BTC doesn't do any of this.. Don't confuse Markets with a Ponzi Scheme
[2017-03-08 14:28:41] aguia7 : Bitcoin is the evolution of money. Paper money, will be museum piece one day.
[2017-03-08 14:29:05] daigo : Kalman: we don't need "future buyers" to make bitcoin work: it is exactly as GOLD: you don't need future buyers, just people willing to trade goods or service for gold
[2017-03-08 14:29:24] mendax090 : Kalman: But for real, if you really consider BTC might be a Ponzi Scheme, I'd recommend you watching Youtube videos or googling the differences.. Is a very basic concept and not know this will make you look bad
[2017-03-08 14:29:41] Actualiteit : life is a ponzi scheme
[2017-03-08 14:29:57] KyllingLolsson : Actualiteit: +1
