This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2015-11-02 23:56:51] podizzle3k : now a notification pops up saying order filled
[2015-11-02 23:57:09] wurstgelee : podizzle3k: have u considered switching browsers?
[2015-11-02 23:57:15] podizzle3k : no
[2015-11-02 23:57:15] wurstgelee : yours seems to have problems somehow
[2015-11-02 23:57:29] wurstgelee : what do you use?
[2015-11-02 23:58:52] podizzle3k : my last order executed 35 minutes ago yet liquidation price is dancing all around
[2015-11-02 23:58:54] podizzle3k : no open orders
[2015-11-02 23:59:14] wurstgelee : only 1 open position?
[2015-11-02 23:59:35] podizzle3k : no 2 i guess maybe that is why
[2015-11-02 23:59:39] wurstgelee : exactly
[2015-11-02 23:59:42] wurstgelee : :)
[2015-11-02 23:59:54] podizzle3k : confusing
[2015-11-03 00:00:11] wurstgelee : the liquidation price is calculated base on your currntly available cross margin
[2015-11-03 00:00:29] Yumi : your positions share available margin unless isolated
[2015-11-03 00:00:34] wurstgelee : if one position moves, the cross margin available changes for the other position
[2015-11-03 00:00:40] wurstgelee : hence the liquidation price change
[2015-11-03 00:00:50] AudibleScience : macios15: are you here?
[2015-11-03 00:00:55] smagin07 : dafuckkk?!
[2015-11-03 00:01:06] macios15 : AudibleScience: yes,
[2015-11-03 00:01:13] podizzle3k : wurstgelee: ok making sense
[2015-11-03 00:01:28] AudibleScience : how's it going man? @macios15
[2015-11-03 00:01:38] wurstgelee : you wont have dancing liquidation prices with isolated fixed margin
[2015-11-03 00:01:48] macios15 : AudibleScience: big profits today, and u?
[2015-11-03 00:02:03] wurstgelee : up again btw
[2015-11-03 00:02:04] smagin07 : show this noob how to make these big profits you speak of
[2015-11-03 00:02:06] macios15 : AudibleScience: hows your long that i made scrin in paint :D
[2015-11-03 00:02:36] AudibleScience : I kind of started again!
[2015-11-03 00:02:53] AudibleScience : made some bad moves!
[2015-11-03 00:03:11] AudibleScience : up today though!
[2015-11-03 00:03:26] macios15 : AudibleScience: i need some sleep
[2015-11-03 00:03:33] macios15 : AudibleScience: good luck then
[2015-11-03 00:03:54] AudibleScience : cheers man!
[2015-11-03 00:04:48] AudibleScience : are you trading some more now or going to bed now then?
[2015-11-03 00:06:39] AudibleScience : macios15: when I trade with not enough sleep it is a usually a total disaster!
[2015-11-03 00:07:37] podizzle3k : bitstamp has some nice buywalls at the top
[2015-11-03 00:09:08] wurstgelee : btw depseratly wants to move up ;)
[2015-11-03 00:09:14] wurstgelee : *btc and other typos
[2015-11-03 00:11:45] AudibleScience : macios15: what you've been doing for 4 years... I've just started doing a bit myself... is what we're seeing at the moment what you'd call "elliot waves" or no?
[2015-11-03 00:13:31] Yumi : what you see atm is vertical pump, it has nothing to do with elliot waves
[2015-11-03 00:14:45] wurstgelee : scroll back two exactly two years for reference ;)
[2015-11-03 00:14:50] wurstgelee : *-two
[2015-11-03 00:15:56] BitMEX_Sam : No kidding, starting to feel like those days again
[2015-11-03 00:16:04] wurstgelee : yep
[2015-11-03 00:19:57] micmix : I'll be happy if we just stay over $300 for a month or two
[2015-11-03 00:23:28] AudibleScience : micmix: are you a miner?
[2015-11-03 00:23:51] micmix : AudibleScience: no
[2015-11-03 00:24:11] Murch : Thanks for adding the ±gain/loss back on the order controls! :D
[2015-11-03 00:24:58] AudibleScience : micmix: lol oh... I just thought because you of what you said...
[2015-11-03 00:25:42] micmix : AudibleScience: we have bitcoin-related business
[2015-11-03 00:27:17] AudibleScience : I see! I'm still learning myself... but from what I understand you're in the perfect place to lock in that value if you want to... just in case it does not indeed do that... (although personally I think it will)
[2015-11-03 00:28:14] nickhnt : Cant belive it my order got filled
[2015-11-03 00:28:42] kasman5 : what contract
[2015-11-03 00:28:43] smagin07 : probably by me. DK wtf I'm doing
[2015-11-03 00:30:09] micmix : AudibleScience: there was no good way to hedge bitcoin exposure when bitcoin was 500+, so we lost quite a bit of profit
[2015-11-03 00:31:29] AudibleScience : micmix: savage man! that must have been horrid for you...
[2015-11-03 00:32:07] nickhnt : 380
[2015-11-03 00:33:25] smagin07 : how does this even work?
[2015-11-03 00:34:34] j8 : smagin07: have you traded futures before?
[2015-11-03 00:34:44] smagin07 : not at all
[2015-11-03 00:35:00] smagin07 : here to give y'all all my money while learning to do so ;)
[2015-11-03 00:35:17] j8 : start small :)
[2015-11-03 00:35:21] Yumi : micmix: if you want to lock in price of btc in usd you might wanna check out XBU contracts if you havent already
[2015-11-03 00:36:17] smagin07 : so I can buy a certain amount of contracts @ say 370 and I'm hoping that at the end of the day its buy higher and BitMex pays me the difference?
[2015-11-03 00:36:18] SnackyCoins : smagin, if you are totally fresh and need to learn the vocabulary, babypips.com (tjhe school section) is a must read
[2015-11-03 00:36:45] SnackyCoins : it is for fx and has things like session hours, but those are relevant to bitcoin so read it all
[2015-11-03 00:36:45] j8 : smagin07: bitmex doesn't really pay you, it comes from other traders
[2015-11-03 00:36:56] AudibleScience : smagin07: I'm sure there is a test-net environment you can use if you want to learn without putting any capital at risk... Ask Sam about it.
[2015-11-03 00:36:56] smagin07 : okay
[2015-11-03 00:37:10] j8 : and, you don't have to wait until the contract expires. you can trade in and out
[2015-11-03 00:37:19] smagin07 : Thanks @snackycoins, @j8, and @AudibleScience
[2015-11-03 00:37:58] j8 : np, also check out the references, maybe start with https://www.bitmex.com/app/lesson1
[2015-11-03 00:38:45] micmix : Yumi: I know about XBU but there is no liquidity. We hedge a bit on OKC but counterparty risk is very high.
[2015-11-03 00:38:45] SnackyCoins : remember after you have a big win, not to go and bet all of it the next hand
[2015-11-03 00:38:50] podizzle3k : also clench your bunghole because things get crazy fast
[2015-11-03 00:39:28] SnackyCoins : even as a complete noob I was able to make at least some decent wins, the trick is keeping it
[2015-11-03 00:39:51] SnackyCoins : win 2btc in a night and then not lose .2 btc every day for the next 10 days :)
[2015-11-03 00:40:02] SnackyCoins : thats the hard part
[2015-11-03 00:40:25] Murch : SnackyCoins: true dat.
[2015-11-03 00:41:18] smagin07 : Bunglehole Clenched
[2015-11-03 00:41:20] laisee : always have target prices for closing a trade. one for losing position and one for winning.
[2015-11-03 00:41:44] BitMEX_Sam : https://testnet.bitmex.com is our sandbox environment
[2015-11-03 00:41:54] BitMEX_Sam : Uses Testnet Bitcoin, it's free / without value
[2015-11-03 00:45:13] smagin07 : all good advice
[2015-11-03 00:45:20] SnackyCoins : Hey sam, I noticed the csv transaction download only gives the past 100 or so lines, would it be possible to get a full log of that (or a year's worth) upon request? Don't need one now, just thinking ahead
[2015-11-03 00:46:00] BitMEX_Sam : SnackyCoins: Yep, you can also generate it yourself from the API
[2015-11-03 00:46:09] BitMEX_Sam : Click around in https://www.bitmex.com/api/explorer/
[2015-11-03 00:46:22] BitMEX_Sam : But we'll do them upon request to CSV if needed
[2015-11-03 00:46:28] SnackyCoins : Oh nifty. I've yet to actually dig through the api docs, gotta get to that
[2015-11-03 00:46:33] j8 : isn't there a script on github to do that?
[2015-11-03 00:46:41] SnackyCoins : nah i can do it myself :) ty
[2015-11-03 00:46:46] BitMEX_Sam : Ah there might be actually
[2015-11-03 00:47:02] BitMEX_Sam : Wow yeah. Completely forgot I wrote this
[2015-11-03 00:47:04] BitMEX_Sam : SnackyCoins: https://github.com/BitMEX/easy-data-scripts
[2015-11-03 00:47:06] j8 : yeah, it's not hard, but it's already done
[2015-11-03 00:47:18] SnackyCoins : Ah handy
[2015-11-03 00:47:19] BitMEX_Sam : Thanks for the reminder j8
[2015-11-03 00:47:39] SnackyCoins : Ditto
[2015-11-03 00:47:40] j8 : np those were useful, ended up adapting them for my needs
[2015-11-03 00:47:50] BitMEX_Sam : I'm about to get a (much-needed) break but I have a great perf improvement just about to hit
[2015-11-03 00:47:53] BitMEX_Sam : Will be live in about 3min
[2015-11-03 00:48:05] BitMEX_Sam : Found that niggling memory leak.
[2015-11-03 00:48:12] j8 : awesome.
[2015-11-03 00:48:19] SnackyCoins : Sweet
[2015-11-03 00:48:33] matrix313 : hi
[2015-11-03 00:48:57] AudibleScience : SnackyCoins: are you shorting this man?
[2015-11-03 00:49:30] SnackyCoins : only a little on the daily
[2015-11-03 00:49:41] SnackyCoins : i expect the retrace to be over by expiry
[2015-11-03 00:50:00] SnackyCoins : suuuuper small short
[2015-11-03 00:50:16] j8 : still a full day of trading in china
[2015-11-03 00:51:16] SnackyCoins : i actually am more concerned that usd wont retrace as much as cny
[2015-11-03 00:52:08] SnackyCoins : gotta come down to at least 357
[2015-11-03 00:52:26] j8 : china premium has dropped down to almost normal levels
[2015-11-03 00:53:22] j8 : if it's going up they'll be leading
[2015-11-03 00:54:14] SnackyCoins : shorts still > longs but only 37% on okcn
[2015-11-03 00:54:33] SnackyCoins : need to chop or retrace more
[2015-11-03 00:54:45] SnackyCoins : i mean we can go up on 37% but not to the moon
[2015-11-03 00:54:58] SnackyCoins : shorts were at 78% earlier today
[2015-11-03 00:55:15] SnackyCoins : never seen it that high before
[2015-11-03 00:55:15] podizzle3k : wow 78% silly
[2015-11-03 00:55:16] j8 : wow. thats a buy signal
[2015-11-03 00:55:27] podizzle3k : anything over 50 is usually strong buy
[2015-11-03 00:55:49] podizzle3k : anyone here think mmmglobal china ponzi is factor in this pump
[2015-11-03 00:55:53] SnackyCoins : longs remained lower 30's the entire time, still are
[2015-11-03 00:55:53] j8 : everyone shorting the huge premiums that just got huger
[2015-11-03 00:56:01] podizzle3k : or china easing restrictions
[2015-11-03 00:57:14] smagin07 : so what would be considered a big win?
[2015-11-03 00:57:19] smagin07 : I'm only using like .3
[2015-11-03 00:57:42] smagin07 : so 50 contracts moving in my benefit a couple bucks? or 10 bucks? or what? And how do i max leverage?
[2015-11-03 00:58:15] j8 : if you fill in an amount, you'll see the Order Value in btc
[2015-11-03 00:58:23] SnackyCoins : isolated margin is max loverage
[2015-11-03 00:58:33] SnackyCoins : note that it's different on each contract
[2015-11-03 00:58:40] SnackyCoins : only 24h is 100x
[2015-11-03 00:59:10] SnackyCoins : click the order options pulldown, there's a calculator to show you what you would make/lose
[2015-11-03 00:59:27] smagin07 : right so every time I come out positive with 24 ill get 100x my bet?
[2015-11-03 00:59:33] smagin07 : alright will do
[2015-11-03 00:59:44] SnackyCoins : no, 100x means you need 2% margin
[2015-11-03 01:00:47] SnackyCoins : err 1%
[2015-11-03 01:00:50] SnackyCoins : 8)
[2015-11-03 01:01:05] SnackyCoins : 2% would be 50x
[2015-11-03 01:01:59] SnackyCoins : this is the amount of margin you need to place as collateral, so like 0.01btc lets you trade 1btc worth of contracts
[2015-11-03 01:02:21] j8 : at 100x you double your bet with a 1% move in your favour
[2015-11-03 01:02:47] smagin07 : okay I see
[2015-11-03 01:02:58] SnackyCoins : and lose everything if it goes against you 8)
[2015-11-03 01:03:08] smagin07 : hahahaaaa
[2015-11-03 01:03:20] smagin07 : the beauty of gambling derivatives
[2015-11-03 01:03:26] j8 : yeah i'd use much lower leverage than that. you'll get wiped out fast
[2015-11-03 01:04:15] SnackyCoins : plenty of people do it and win but isolating margin and going full 100x is kinda silly imo
[2015-11-03 01:04:29] SnackyCoins : even 50x is hard
[2015-11-03 01:04:54] j8 : i personally use less than 25x but maybe i'm a wimp
[2015-11-03 01:05:15] SnackyCoins : i think the highest i went this rally was 7x
[2015-11-03 01:05:28] smagin07 : and so to start getting into decent wins you're looking for full dollar or 10 dollar moves in a day?
[2015-11-03 01:05:38] SnackyCoins : i appreciate the 100x not needing much margin from my account though 8) but i don't isolate
[2015-11-03 01:05:50] j8 : yeah likewise.
[2015-11-03 01:06:06] SnackyCoins : well 1% would be $2 at 200, $3 at 300, etc
[2015-11-03 01:06:31] xinxi : BitMEX_Sam:
[2015-11-03 01:06:35] j8 : smagin07: anything under a dollar should surely be left to bots
[2015-11-03 01:06:47] smagin07 : hahaaaa noted
[2015-11-03 01:06:59] j8 : we moved 12% today
[2015-11-03 01:07:12] SnackyCoins : i'm actually not sure i would say to go cross margin as a noob. cause you're gonna blow out a few accounts during the learning process
[2015-11-03 01:07:28] SnackyCoins : i think i've blown out like 4
[2015-11-03 01:07:51] SnackyCoins : fucking 1broker lol
[2015-11-03 01:08:40] j8 : i only traded there once and i got screwed a bit
[2015-11-03 01:09:37] SnackyCoins : blown out some okcoin futures accts too
[2015-11-03 01:09:49] j8 : omg too many times.
[2015-11-03 01:10:06] SnackyCoins : i actually quit trading btc futures there
[2015-11-03 01:10:14] SnackyCoins : still trade ltc there
[2015-11-03 01:10:23] SnackyCoins : less fuckery on ltc
[2015-11-03 01:10:23] smagin07 : so do y'all make decent coin doing this?
[2015-11-03 01:10:26] j8 : well i always use fixed margin there too. yeah i am constantly quitting trading there
[2015-11-03 01:10:40] SnackyCoins : ditto only fixed margin on okc
[2015-11-03 01:10:55] SnackyCoins : it doesnt have these handy colorful margin bars to help me visualize my available margin :)
[2015-11-03 01:11:06] j8 : i gotta quit for good. its awful
[2015-11-03 01:11:16] AudibleScience : is this the very tender start of an epic pump?
[2015-11-03 01:11:46] SnackyCoins : i only started making real money on this rally. it's been so choppy and lacking of any volatility most of 2015.. most btc traders went to forex
[2015-11-03 01:11:51] SnackyCoins : but everyone is back now 8)
[2015-11-03 01:12:02] SnackyCoins : i've more than doubled my account size
[2015-11-03 01:12:20] j8 : i was very pleased with october
[2015-11-03 01:12:23] SnackyCoins : made like 7 btc today
[2015-11-03 01:12:25] j8 : august too.
[2015-11-03 01:12:49] SnackyCoins : yeah there was some good times
[2015-11-03 01:12:59] SnackyCoins : i only started trading seriously in january
[2015-11-03 01:13:06] SnackyCoins : i was a miner before that
[2015-11-03 01:13:26] j8 : a bitcoin miner or an actual miner?
[2015-11-03 01:13:29] SnackyCoins : caught as many btc as i could hold on that 160 death spike
[2015-11-03 01:13:34] SnackyCoins : btc miner lol
[2015-11-03 01:13:56] SnackyCoins : altcoin actually
[2015-11-03 01:14:04] SnackyCoins : btc dried up the year before
[2015-11-03 01:14:20] j8 : yeah very high cost of entry
[2015-11-03 01:14:27] SnackyCoins : i got sick of the arms race
[2015-11-03 01:15:01] SnackyCoins : then bought 10gpus to mine doge 8)
[2015-11-03 01:16:04] j8 : good old doge.
[2015-11-03 01:17:58] smagin07 : hahah doge?!
[2015-11-03 01:18:05] smagin07 : damn 7 bitcoins in a day!? Not too bad at all
[2015-11-03 01:18:20] SnackyCoins : yeah my best day ever
[2015-11-03 01:18:32] smagin07 : wanna take over my account ;)
[2015-11-03 01:19:03] SnackyCoins : well i'll probably have some of the bitcoins out of it ;)
[2015-11-03 01:19:22] smagin07 : sheeittt, not gonna be many more left after this run it seems
[2015-11-03 01:20:07] SnackyCoins : closed short
[2015-11-03 01:20:43] j8 : really glad someone sold to me on `XBTZ15`, got out of my long early and was regretting it
[2015-11-03 01:21:05] Swedishnut : here we go again?
[2015-11-03 01:21:11] SnackyCoins : some great cash & carry opportunity this rally
[2015-11-03 01:21:43] Swedishnut : 375+ 2466 cny+?
[2015-11-03 01:21:58] j8 : i've been making a killing buying long dated and selling short dated
[2015-11-03 01:22:08] SnackyCoins : could be, shorts still 40%
[2015-11-03 01:23:22] Rizky : probably been asked a lot... do open orders on the 24H cancel when contract rolls or stay open?
[2015-11-03 01:23:33] BitMEX_Sam : Rizky: They cancel
[2015-11-03 01:23:49] Rizky : merci
[2015-11-03 01:23:55] SnackyCoins : gonna go ahead and start working back into a long on weekly again, took all profits on it today
[2015-11-03 01:23:59] BitMEX_Sam : This is important because you should expect the price to change after settlement as another 24hr of basis is factored in
[2015-11-03 01:25:15] Yumi : the script to download all your trade history is very useful
[2015-11-03 01:26:24] AudibleScience : SnackyCoins: you inspired me! now I'm short!
[2015-11-03 01:26:45] SnackyCoins : welp, we printed a few candled and i changed my mind ;)
[2015-11-03 01:26:59] SnackyCoins : sooo thank you for helping me get out of mine
[2015-11-03 01:28:33] AudibleScience : Yeah... but my cohones are not very big I don't think! because I fear we've not seen the last of tonight's pump...
[2015-11-03 01:28:53] AudibleScience : lol I'm only short 100 contracts
[2015-11-03 01:29:06] Swedishnut : sets of 3 usually and we are on 2nd spike aftermath I thought
[2015-11-03 01:30:34] smagin07 : I'm short 50 and freaking out!
[2015-11-03 01:30:46] smagin07 : gonna bust my entire account in ~2 hours..
[2015-11-03 01:30:57] SnackyCoins : isolate that margin :x
[2015-11-03 01:31:22] SnackyCoins : trading is incredibly stressful 8)
[2015-11-03 01:31:22] smagin07 : what would that do in this case
[2015-11-03 01:31:23] smagin07 : ?
[2015-11-03 01:31:37] smagin07 : won't it leverage me higher if I isolate?
[2015-11-03 01:31:37] cekseh : You need to listen to the right musick snacky
[2015-11-03 01:31:38] cekseh : =)
[2015-11-03 01:31:40] BitMEX_Sam : It's like a simple stop loss.
[2015-11-03 01:31:53] SnackyCoins : yes but you limit your losses to that 1% margin you put down
[2015-11-03 01:32:06] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah. And if there isn't liquidity to catch you, it doesn't matter
[2015-11-03 01:32:14] BitMEX_Sam : You're out.
[2015-11-03 01:32:18] BitMEX_Sam : It becomes our problem :)
[2015-11-03 01:32:20] smagin07 : so if I click that box now I can still isolate it?
[2015-11-03 01:32:27] SnackyCoins : yeah
[2015-11-03 01:32:28] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah you can isolate/unisolate whenever you like
[2015-11-03 01:32:31] BitMEX_Sam : It doesn't cost anything
[2015-11-03 01:32:41] Swedishnut : just your soul :P
[2015-11-03 01:32:49] BitMEX_Sam : Yes of course
[2015-11-03 01:33:01] BitMEX_Sam : It's one finger on the monkey paw every time you isolate
[2015-11-03 01:33:04] smagin07 : so I isolate it and then do a sell off of the 50 and I only pay the margin?
[2015-11-03 01:33:42] SnackyCoins : isolated means the margin is your maximum loss
[2015-11-03 01:33:51] SnackyCoins : you could lose less, should you close early
[2015-11-03 01:33:59] smagin07 : ahhhh okay I see
[2015-11-03 01:34:14] smagin07 : and can I only win that back if it turns around?
[2015-11-03 01:34:30] BitMEX_Sam : If you didn't get liquidated already
[2015-11-03 01:34:33] smagin07 : I realise I sound like a total noob, because I am, thanks for all yalls help
[2015-11-03 01:34:33] BitMEX_Sam : If you did, you're out of the position
[2015-11-03 01:34:35] SnackyCoins : if it turns around before you get margin called, yeah
[2015-11-03 01:34:57] Yumi : my first trade here was on 28th November 2014, will be a year soon =)
[2015-11-03 01:35:06] SnackyCoins : whats MC on 100x, $3-4?
[2015-11-03 01:35:54] SnackyCoins : we are chopping a $10 range
[2015-11-03 01:36:41] SnackyCoins : but i mean, that's why 100x is the slot machine
[2015-11-03 01:36:42] BitMEX_Sam : Yumi: From the very beginning
[2015-11-03 01:37:41] SnackyCoins : we are steadily gaining shorts ~1%/5min on okcn
[2015-11-03 01:37:58] SnackyCoins : no sleeping tonight 8)
[2015-11-03 01:39:23] nostdal.org : huh, longed 370 moments ago .. got liquidated
[2015-11-03 01:39:54] nostdal.org : 371*
[2015-11-03 01:40:07] AudibleScience : SnackyCoins: really! cool!
[2015-11-03 01:40:15] smagin07 : so my it shows my liquidation price is up on one of my 24h
[2015-11-03 01:40:26] smagin07 : ahhh nvm, answered my own question mid-sentence
[2015-11-03 01:40:31] SnackyCoins : looks like we hit 364 ~25min ago, dunno if that is longer than a moment
[2015-11-03 01:40:39] Murch : Start with cross margin when you're doing dailies.
[2015-11-03 01:40:48] SnackyCoins : i disagree
[2015-11-03 01:40:51] nostdal.org : i'm talking a few minutes .. we never under 371 at all
[2015-11-03 01:40:52] AudibleScience : nostdal.org: oh no man! sorry to hear that... I know how that feels.
[2015-11-03 01:41:10] Murch : It's based on the fair/mark price.
[2015-11-03 01:41:14] SnackyCoins : fixed margin is really safe for a new trader. you have to know how to hedge to properly cross
[2015-11-03 01:41:32] BitMEX_Sam : nostdal.org: Yep - watch the mark price, right now it's a bit below the last so you have to be careful when opening an isolated long
[2015-11-03 01:41:57] nostdal.org : it might be nice as a stop loss feature, but sort of annoying when you can't even get into a position to begin with
[2015-11-03 01:42:01] SnackyCoins : i actually think starting out the 7day might be better
[2015-11-03 01:42:13] BitMEX_Sam : nostdal.org: switch to cross margin n the order options
[2015-11-03 01:52:45] abc123 : still dont understand isolate margin
[2015-11-03 01:52:56] xinxi : BitMEX_Sam: there is no liquidity for XBUZ15
[2015-11-03 01:53:09] xinxi : Can you help fill it?
[2015-11-03 01:53:21] BitMEX_Sam : xinxi: Yes, it's been low lately - I cannot, but I will reach out to Arthur and see what he can do
[2015-11-03 01:54:40] xinxi : It will be great if you can find someone to fill it.
[2015-11-03 01:55:29] j8 : okc quarterly is at $410, thats a big arb
[2015-11-03 01:56:21] j8 : 374.90 ask on `XBUZ15`
[2015-11-03 01:57:09] SnackyCoins : yours?
[2015-11-03 01:57:39] j8 : no i don't trade `XBU` series. did it and regretted it because of fees and no liquidity
[2015-11-03 01:57:55] SnackyCoins : i like xbu :) wish there was more
[2015-11-03 01:58:04] SnackyCoins : but i actually used it to hedge
[2015-11-03 01:58:20] BitMEX_Sam : XBU is a nice contract and great for hedging, unfortunately liquidity has really declined as traders have focused their attention to daily/weekly
[2015-11-03 01:59:13] xinxi : BitMEX_Sam: perhaps I need to resort to margin trading.
[2015-11-03 01:59:22] SnackyCoins : kinda wanna buy those asks 8)
[2015-11-03 02:01:35] j8 : i would if i had the margarine
[2015-11-03 02:03:21] SnackyCoins : heh
[2015-11-03 02:03:24] SnackyCoins : took half and it got pulled
[2015-11-03 02:03:38] SnackyCoins : ah nm it's back
[2015-11-03 02:03:41] SnackyCoins : and refreshed
[2015-11-03 02:10:02] macios15 : china pump
[2015-11-03 02:10:17] podizzle3k : j8 i got some butter you can have
[2015-11-03 02:10:32] podizzle3k : oh sht its official macios called it
[2015-11-03 02:11:07] j8 : butter?
[2015-11-03 02:11:46] SnackyCoins : you made a typo earlier j8 ;)
[2015-11-03 02:12:06] j8 : oh right the mayonnaise
[2015-11-03 02:13:04] j8 : sorry its been a long day.
[2015-11-03 02:13:09] j8 : long month actually
[2015-11-03 02:13:50] SnackyCoins : not over yet 8)
[2015-11-03 02:15:05] j8 : today it's a question of how long i can hold onto my short on `XBT24H`
[2015-11-03 02:15:26] SnackyCoins : we might test the lows once more
[2015-11-03 02:15:28] macios15 : yes, dump not over abandon ship bears are gona attack us with 2cny dump lol
[2015-11-03 02:15:28] SnackyCoins : -maybe-
[2015-11-03 02:23:21] Swedishnut : yeah idk how many bears there are left in the wild
[2015-11-03 02:24:57] ohmannomma : iis the liquidation price based on this? https://tradeblock.com/markets/index/
[2015-11-03 02:26:38] sleger : partially
[2015-11-03 02:31:21] j8 : https://www.bitmex.com/app/dynamicProfitEqualisation#fair-price-marking
[2015-11-03 02:33:01] j8 : that explains the fair basis, although yes it uses tradeblock XBX instead of Bitfinex (docs need an update @BitMEX_Sam)
[2015-11-03 02:38:40] nickhnt : The Roi is insane
[2015-11-03 02:38:56] nickhnt : :o
[2015-11-03 02:39:16] nickhnt : ROE*
[2015-11-03 02:39:16] cekseh : The liquidations are real =)
[2015-11-03 02:39:22] SnackyCoins : ^
[2015-11-03 02:39:26] laisee : 4.5995 XBT (344.04%)
[2015-11-03 02:39:39] SnackyCoins : well done
[2015-11-03 02:39:41] cekseh : That is a good day my friend
[2015-11-03 02:39:43] nickhnt : 860%
[2015-11-03 02:39:47] nickhnt : Man
[2015-11-03 02:39:53] nickhnt : I cant believe it
[2015-11-03 02:40:13] laisee : nickhnt ... da man!!!
[2015-11-03 02:40:26] nickhnt : A hell of a day
[2015-11-03 02:40:48] cekseh : Don't forget to take profit
[2015-11-03 02:41:05] joequant : drink the champange since we are in a bubble. The question is how high will it go before it pops.
[2015-11-03 02:41:12] nickhnt : Yeah sir xD
[2015-11-03 02:42:12] laisee : we can withdraw funds in champagne?
[2015-11-03 02:42:30] sleger : 1 bottle = 1btc
[2015-11-03 02:42:33] nickhnt : Lol
[2015-11-03 02:42:54] nickhnt : The market dont seems to stop
[2015-11-03 02:42:56] SnackyCoins : gyft has cards for wines by mail, they probably have some
[2015-11-03 02:43:07] nickhnt : Chinese are crazy
[2015-11-03 02:43:22] joequant : No its quite rational.
[2015-11-03 02:43:36] macios15 : this is B in eliots wawes i think
[2015-11-03 02:43:40] j8 : joequant: haven't seen you in a while
[2015-11-03 02:43:40] macios15 : now its time for C
[2015-11-03 02:43:43] joequant : Chinese government is pumping in cash, but restricting the stock market and real estate
[2015-11-03 02:43:55] joequant : Been busy trading :-)
[2015-11-03 02:44:00] laisee : CNY will end in tears, but some will get rich ...
[2015-11-03 02:44:00] j8 : busy times
[2015-11-03 02:44:06] nickhnt : The govnmt is buying?
[2015-11-03 02:44:12] joequant : No.
[2015-11-03 02:44:22] joequant : The government is dropping cash from helicopters.
[2015-11-03 02:44:31] joequant : Some of it is going into bitcoin.
[2015-11-03 02:44:49] joequant : But they don't care about bitcoin.
[2015-11-03 02:44:49] nickhnt : Oh shit
[2015-11-03 02:44:55] laisee : extreme QE .
[2015-11-03 02:45:13] joequant : It's not just QE
[2015-11-03 02:45:22] nickhnt : This is going to get ugly
[2015-11-03 02:45:30] joequant : They are keeping the money out of real estate and the stock market.
[2015-11-03 02:45:35] joequant : So it goes into other things.
[2015-11-03 02:45:56] SnackyCoins : pretty much the opposite of the how the US did it eh?
[2015-11-03 02:46:57] joequant : Well you have a ton of cash and no good investment so it going into weird stuff.
[2015-11-03 02:46:58] laisee : CN exchanges deny BTC is channel for taking $$$ out ... but they would have to say that.
[2015-11-03 02:47:07] joequant : They are right.
[2015-11-03 02:47:18] joequant : Bitcoin is useless for moving money out of China.
[2015-11-03 02:47:20] babybaby : the http://fuk.io blog is back online
[2015-11-03 02:47:24] joequant : There are a dozen easier ways.
[2015-11-03 02:47:30] joequant : It's pure speculation.
[2015-11-03 02:48:04] joequant : Every Chinese factory runs a currency exchange business on the side.
[2015-11-03 02:48:33] j8 : for sure. it's slightly more plausible than greeks buying bitcoin, but either way it's the speculation around it
[2015-11-03 02:48:54] laisee : hmmm BTC seems easier and faster than e.g. insurrance policies, copper ...
[2015-11-03 02:49:08] Swedishnut : what if it is a combination of all of the above?
[2015-11-03 02:49:52] laisee : yes. I think answer is c) All of Above
[2015-11-03 02:51:20] Swedishnut : me as well. I think the globe in general is looking for a faster way to transfer value to those struck hardest by catastrophe , immigration, refugees, etc... money needs to reach the needy and without much loss of value and 100% security peer to peer is the crypto bonus
[2015-11-03 02:52:23] joequant : You can go into any currency exchange store in Hong Kong and transfer about USD 5 million in 30 minutes.
[2015-11-03 02:52:33] joequant : That's too big for bitcoin.
[2015-11-03 02:52:57] joequant : Well maybe not any. But there are dozens of them.
[2015-11-03 02:52:58] Swedishnut : right now yes but how many average folks have 50 mil they NEED transfed in 30 min?
[2015-11-03 02:53:00] j8 : but chinese citizens are limited to 50,000 USD a year aren't they?
[2015-11-03 02:53:34] joequant : For direct wires.
[2015-11-03 02:53:42] joequant : But what you do is to open an HK bank account.
[2015-11-03 02:53:48] joequant : And a mainland bank account.
[2015-11-03 02:54:12] joequant : You wire money mainland->mainland, and USD gets wired to the HK bank account.
[2015-11-03 02:54:29] joequant : How the money got moved from mainland -> HK is not your concern.
[2015-11-03 02:54:38] Swedishnut : fiat is fiat. idk when btc will truly "break out" and I don't want more than 20k usd cash really.
[2015-11-03 02:54:55] joequant : But it usually involves fake import receipts and a friend with a Chinese factory.
[2015-11-03 02:55:47] j8 : i see. maybe this is still not accessible to the average chinese person?
[2015-11-03 02:56:05] j8 : or not practical?
[2015-11-03 02:56:31] joequant : It's a pain because you need an HK bank account, so that means travelling to HK.
[2015-11-03 02:56:39] joequant : But any middle class person can do it.
[2015-11-03 02:56:59] joequant : And if you are a peasant, you aren't going to be moving USD millions.
[2015-11-03 02:57:30] Swedishnut : exactly.
[2015-11-03 02:57:53] j8 : no but there's like a billion of them
[2015-11-03 02:58:02] macios15 : Scroll up told u now its time for C in eliot
[2015-11-03 03:09:49] nickhnt : Up or down?
[2015-11-03 03:15:17] Yumi : when price goes vertically up 10% in few hrs it has nothing to do with elliot waves
[2015-11-03 03:16:12] laisee : waves of emotion, seems like
[2015-11-03 03:18:41] smagin07 : how come when liquidation price hits my position doesn't get liquidated?
[2015-11-03 03:18:48] peasant-wizard : XBT7D 25+ orders deep and only four asks...
[2015-11-03 03:19:19] peasant-wizard : Theres a couple more but still. shiiii
[2015-11-03 03:19:50] mtourig3 : Question on withdrawls: when I withdraw how long does it take to execute? Ive had a withdrawl "confirmed" for 10 hrs but my btc acct has not been funded yet
[2015-11-03 03:21:06] Yumi : they do it once a day at 13 UTC
[2015-11-03 03:22:14] smagin07 : welp, that answers that, just got liquidated
[2015-11-03 03:23:35] nickhnt : Going up i guess
[2015-11-03 03:24:35] podizzler3k : its only official when macios15 says so
[2015-11-03 03:25:44] podizzler3k : you can open up a chinese bank account in new york city
[2015-11-03 03:25:51] podizzler3k : in case anyone is interested
[2015-11-03 03:26:51] micmix : fair basis rate on daily is 1050%, never seen anything like that
[2015-11-03 03:27:26] Yumi : I think it was at 1300% at some point today
[2015-11-03 03:27:43] micmix : that's crazy!
[2015-11-03 03:27:54] j8 : it was trading as high as 1600% though the fair basis didn't go that high
[2015-11-03 03:27:58] Yumi : it is definitely
[2015-11-03 03:28:20] BitMEX_Wally : Yeah, it's only 1% in absolute basis terms
[2015-11-03 03:29:44] Yumi : 1% in 7hrs Id say its pretty good money
[2015-11-03 03:30:00] j8 : either way its a lot bigger than i expected when this market launched. the leverage effect is shocking
[2015-11-03 03:31:24] micmix : It would be interesting to see the liquidation list. I guess lots of people like playing with fire on 100x
[2015-11-03 03:32:48] Yumi : its not only leverage, big advantage of daily is that it settles every day, allowing you withdraw or reinvest profits
[2015-11-03 03:33:43] j8 : yeah these are advantages, but then it's a question of how that biases price
[2015-11-03 03:33:43] Yumi : on other contracts you get stuck with withheld profits
[2015-11-03 03:33:56] AudibleScience : I just lost my internet connection all that time!
[2015-11-03 03:34:16] j8 : and will we see as big of a negative basis in a downtrend
[2015-11-03 03:36:07] micmix : IDK, I prefer to leave daily to the bots. Maybe I'm just too old for this stuff :-)
[2015-11-03 03:36:17] peasant-wizard : Anybody use multiple accounts for different contracts? For instance an account specifically for Z15
[2015-11-03 03:36:50] j8 : i don't see why you would do that
[2015-11-03 03:41:14] Yumi : ask side empty on weekly
[2015-11-03 03:42:12] podizzler3k : ok ok ill sell some weekly for $490
[2015-11-03 03:42:18] podizzler3k : because im a nice guy
[2015-11-03 03:42:32] j8 : yeah that's huge premium
[2015-11-03 03:46:50] Yumi : seems like a lesson from this is to never take profits
[2015-11-03 03:47:25] xinxi : BitMEX_Wally: could you process my withdrawal?
[2015-11-03 03:47:58] Murch : xinxi: it's done at the settlement period each day I believe.
[2015-11-03 03:48:17] xinxi : How long do I need to wait?
[2015-11-03 03:48:39] Murch : about 8 hours from now
[2015-11-03 03:49:30] xinxi : ...
[2015-11-03 03:50:48] Murch : Straight from the FAQ: "When are Bitcoin withdrawals processed? The cutoff time for Bitcoin withdrawals is 12:00 UTC. Shortly after that, Bitcoin will be sent to the address you specified. BitMEX will be increasing the number of withdrawal times in the near future."
[2015-11-03 03:51:31] Murch : Annoying but that's how it is right now.
[2015-11-03 03:51:31] kogroken : I think they moved the cutoff time to 13:00 UTC recently.
[2015-11-03 03:51:50] Murch : Daylight savings was a couple nights ago.
[2015-11-03 03:52:31] cengel : unrelated, they justmade the change to allow withdrawal of profits
[2015-11-03 03:52:48] kogroken : https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMarkets/comments/3r9crh/new_features_on_bitmex_adjust_isolated_margin_ioc/
[2015-11-03 03:52:50] kogroken : "By popular demand, we’ve decided to move our withdrawal cutoff to 13 UTC from 12 UTC. Since all expiries and rebalances happen at 12 UTC, this gives traders a one-hour window to withdraw profits without having to wait until the next day."
[2015-11-03 03:53:19] Murch : kogroken: Ah okay I stand corrected.
[2015-11-03 03:53:40] kogroken : They just forgot to update the FAQ
[2015-11-03 03:53:44] BitMEX_Sam : Thanks for the reminder Murch
[2015-11-03 03:54:05] Yumi : there is also Bitfinex somewhere in the FAQ
[2015-11-03 03:54:10] Murch : Sure thing.
[2015-11-03 03:55:54] Yumi : also on .XBT Index page timestamps are clickable and take you to bitcoincharts.com to bitfinex
[2015-11-03 03:57:36] BitMEX_Sam : Thanks, will handle that as well
[2015-11-03 03:57:42] BitMEX_Sam : Although there are no good XBX history changes
[2015-11-03 03:57:46] BitMEX_Sam : charts*
[2015-11-03 03:59:38] peasant-wizard : Anybody use oscillators on BitMEX contracts/
[2015-11-03 04:01:24] peasant-wizard : Or not enough liquidity / bot trading to make them useful ?
[2015-11-03 04:05:35] Murch : Oscillators by themselves are generally misleading or so I've experienced.
[2015-11-03 04:07:32] peasant-wizard : Murch: Interesting. I find them to be a scalpers best friend.
[2015-11-03 04:08:01] Murch : To each his own of course. There are so many different ways to be profitable.
[2015-11-03 04:08:35] peasant-wizard : I tried bot trading a bit and the oscillators were the only thing I could get to be profitable
[2015-11-03 04:08:50] peasant-wizard : Not profitable enough to pay for the bot subscription mind you...
[2015-11-03 04:09:00] joequant : oscillators can work under some market conditions
[2015-11-03 04:09:19] joequant : you want the market to be choppy but not too choppy
[2015-11-03 04:10:19] peasant-wizard : Yes certainly, great for sideways or slight trend. But basically what I noticed was that there are so many bots set up on common oscillators with stock settings that you can just trade against the bots
[2015-11-03 04:10:42] peasant-wizard : Anyways just curious
[2015-11-03 04:11:13] Murch : That's pretty cool actually.
[2015-11-03 04:12:30] peasant-wizard : Works some places better than others, BFX was pretty consistent there for a while during the sideways but the fees ate all my profits :(
[2015-11-03 04:12:44] Murch : Yeah fees sure are a bitch
[2015-11-03 04:12:48] BitMEX_Sam : http://www.unicode.org/L2/L2015/15229-bitcoin-sign.pdf
[2015-11-03 04:12:57] BitMEX_Sam : Unicode accepted &btc;
[2015-11-03 04:13:28] kogroken : Cool
[2015-11-03 04:13:30] peasant-wizard : BitMEX_Sam: Wow, thats great thanks for shari
[2015-11-03 04:15:15] smagin07 : who wants to just send me like 1,000 BTC?
[2015-11-03 04:16:59] smagin07 : /nobody
[2015-11-03 04:17:01] smagin07 : ?
[2015-11-03 04:19:05] Murch : I'll do it.
[2015-11-03 04:19:14] smagin07 : sweeeet
[2015-11-03 04:19:15] Murch : If you send me 1 BTC first. =P
[2015-11-03 04:19:21] smagin07 : hahhaaaa
[2015-11-03 04:19:29] AudibleScience : smagin07: No I'll do it
[2015-11-03 04:19:32] Murch : Dat ROI.
[2015-11-03 04:19:41] smagin07 : heheeee
[2015-11-03 04:21:42] AudibleScience : if my ISP doesn't reimburse me for tonight's loss of profit I will find a new ISP!
[2015-11-03 04:23:28] AudibleScience : they made me lose almost a coin in profit tonight!
[2015-11-03 04:23:49] smagin07 : hohooo, how long were you kicked off?
[2015-11-03 04:24:47] AudibleScience : from 3:23 to 3:31 my time (UK) unbelievable eh
[2015-11-03 04:25:14] smagin07 : Yup, I remember you coming back from it
[2015-11-03 04:25:15] smagin07 : real shit
[2015-11-03 04:25:32] smagin07 : you sending em screen shots?
[2015-11-03 04:26:47] wspbtc : Hey I'm having trouble closing my position, can someone help me?
[2015-11-03 04:27:02] AudibleScience : no I'll just tell them about it and see what happens! If they don't comply they'll lose a customer forever! lol I'll tell them that of course and see!?
[2015-11-03 04:27:05] Murch : Change to cross margin if it won't let you close.
[2015-11-03 04:27:49] wspbtc : it's because part of my margin isn't "available" because it's profit
[2015-11-03 04:28:10] Yumi : I would recommend closing with limit order
[2015-11-03 04:28:44] wspbtc : yep nothing. I wouldn't ask for help without trying everything
[2015-11-03 04:28:46] Murch : Hmm just gotta use less leverage I guess. Add some margin if you can.
[2015-11-03 04:28:56] Yumi : what error msg do you get?
[2015-11-03 04:28:59] peasant-wizard : wspbtc: Any chance your order just isnt getting filled?
[2015-11-03 04:29:22] wspbtc : no, it's not letting me close below liquidation price
[2015-11-03 04:29:38] Murch : Yeah you have to be above.
[2015-11-03 04:29:41] wspbtc : and liquidation isn't hitting because the total in my account is much greater than what is availab
[2015-11-03 04:29:51] Murch : Only way you can make the liquidation price better is by adding margin or closing some of the position.
[2015-11-03 04:29:57] wspbtc : so it would be stuck until mc all the profit
[2015-11-03 04:30:00] wspbtc : it should close
[2015-11-03 04:30:11] wspbtc : no reason not to let it close and take some prift
[2015-11-03 04:30:22] Murch : It will only liquidate what you have apart from your "Withheld Profit"
[2015-11-03 04:31:03] wspbtc : it's a bug
[2015-11-03 04:31:03] Murch : And then you have to wait until that profit settles to trade again.
[2015-11-03 04:31:12] Yumi : try cancel other orders and stops on this contract
[2015-11-03 04:31:21] Murch : You can't use withheld profit as your margin.
[2015-11-03 04:32:29] wspbtc : OK so it was in limbo before liquidation? Because it went way below liquidation. Seemed like it was holding it because of the witheld profit balance
[2015-11-03 04:32:55] Murch : It's not, it was either a display error or your position did indeed get liquidated.
[2015-11-03 04:33:08] wspbtc : no it didn't
[2015-11-03 04:33:11] wspbtc : its's still there
[2015-11-03 04:33:15] wspbtc : unexpected behavior
[2015-11-03 04:33:18] Murch : So then it's some kind of bug lol.
[2015-11-03 04:33:21] wspbtc : yep
