This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2015-11-01 22:07:32] messiaen8844 : right, that must be it, I just type way too fast
[2015-11-01 22:07:41] BitMEX_Sam : 2fast2furious
[2015-11-01 22:08:17] messiaen8844 : fond memories of playing typing game in BBSs in the early 90s
[2015-11-01 22:10:03] messiaen8844 : damn, if BTC new highs my short is toasted
[2015-11-01 22:10:48] wurstgelee : i wouldnt short currently tbh
[2015-11-01 22:10:50] wurstgelee : ;)
[2015-11-01 22:12:28] messiaen8844 : shorting in weekly, low leverage, couldnt resist
[2015-11-01 22:26:34] diggy : hey how does cross margin work?
[2015-11-01 22:27:17] diggy : when i clicick the checkbox "isolate margin" i get the profit credited to my ac
[2015-11-01 22:27:34] diggy : account?
[2015-11-01 22:27:52] ayy lmao : is that a question or a statement?
[2015-11-01 22:28:09] ayy lmao : as far as i know u dont get profit until contract closes
[2015-11-01 22:28:14] ayy lmao : its witheld from u
[2015-11-01 22:28:18] BitMEX_Sam : Nope - it's like cross/fixed margin on other sites
[2015-11-01 22:28:32] ayy lmao : cross uses whole account as collateral for position
[2015-11-01 22:28:44] BitMEX_Sam : I'm going to do a small guide page in the `Trading` section about isolated margin
[2015-11-01 22:30:19] diggy : thank
[2015-11-01 22:43:48] sleger : big bitfinex order
[2015-11-01 22:51:33] justinlooking : punchy
[2015-11-01 22:55:03] sleger : removed
[2015-11-01 22:56:13] wurstgelee : time to reload longs soon ;)
[2015-11-01 23:03:46] podizzle3k : just be careful apparently you can be liquidated in 18 seconds during a relatively sideways period
[2015-11-01 23:03:52] podizzle3k : "fair price" index ftw
[2015-11-01 23:07:35] Murch : Add margin to your isolated positions so that doesn't happen.
[2015-11-01 23:08:13] Murch : That's what kept me from getting liquidated just now actually.
[2015-11-01 23:11:19] wurstgelee : yeah, that index is "problematic" ....
[2015-11-01 23:11:23] stf28 : podizzle3k: yeah it happened to me also
[2015-11-01 23:11:27] cekseh : Small wall on finex is back =P
[2015-11-01 23:11:28] wurstgelee : had some discussion here todaxy about that
[2015-11-01 23:11:45] stf28 : you gotta manage the margin carefully
[2015-11-01 23:11:46] wurstgelee : wb small wall ;)
[2015-11-01 23:12:06] cekseh : Step 1, understand your trading engine
[2015-11-01 23:12:14] cekseh : Step 2, don't complain about getting rekt
[2015-11-01 23:12:46] stf28 : step 3 profit ?
[2015-11-01 23:14:07] cekseh : For some of us =)
[2015-11-01 23:14:18] cekseh : Someone is taking the opposite side of these trades
[2015-11-01 23:14:22] cekseh : rip
[2015-11-01 23:14:23] Murch : 100x margin can only be done with tiny amounts is the first thing to learn.
[2015-11-01 23:15:06] SnackyCoins : you can add margin to it you know. it doesnt have to be 100x
[2015-11-01 23:15:16] sleger : Murch: that doesnt make any sense
[2015-11-01 23:15:17] SnackyCoins : thats what that little +B icon is next to the margin
[2015-11-01 23:15:26] sleger : either it works or it doesnt, its irrespective of the amount
[2015-11-01 23:15:28] mwalshe99 : Murch: +1
[2015-11-01 23:15:46] SnackyCoins : it's called risk management sleger
[2015-11-01 23:15:53] Murch : Captain Literal to the rescue.
[2015-11-01 23:16:03] mwalshe99 : sleger: nah. theres not enough liquidity here to play 100x without using small amounts
[2015-11-01 23:16:14] sleger : then what he meant to say is not small amount, its small % of your assets
[2015-11-01 23:16:48] SnackyCoins : the liquidity is relevant as well
[2015-11-01 23:16:56] Murch : relatively*** small amount my bad dude.
[2015-11-01 23:17:21] mwalshe99 : id be so happy if this exchange got more liquidity
[2015-11-01 23:18:13] Murch : It's getting there, think about how it was just 2 months ago.
[2015-11-01 23:18:24] mwalshe99 : didnt know about this place 2 months ago
[2015-11-01 23:18:35] BitMEX_Sam : Yes, it is much improved, even over 1mo ago
[2015-11-01 23:18:41] Murch : Well take it from me, it's improving quickly.
[2015-11-01 23:19:02] wurstgelee : mm bot <3
[2015-11-01 23:19:03] mwalshe99 : looks like it. really like the fact the staff are always here pretty much to help and answer questions
[2015-11-01 23:19:06] mwalshe99 : does look really good
[2015-11-01 23:19:12] wurstgelee : love it ;)
[2015-11-01 23:19:19] mwalshe99 : trading system seems clean
[2015-11-01 23:19:23] mwalshe99 : just worried about security
[2015-11-01 23:19:29] Murch : mwalshe99: agreed
[2015-11-01 23:19:30] SnackyCoins : i can get filled within minutes if on the top of the book on 24h, it's nice. at least as fast as bitfinex
[2015-11-01 23:19:30] mwalshe99 : but thats just the landscape in general
[2015-11-01 23:19:36] BitMEX_Sam : mwalshe99: https://www.bitmex.com/app/security
[2015-11-01 23:19:42] sleger : hack or scam ?
[2015-11-01 23:19:44] SnackyCoins : MEX has best security
[2015-11-01 23:19:45] Murch : security seems fine I think
[2015-11-01 23:19:57] SnackyCoins : no hot wallet on bitmex
[2015-11-01 23:20:01] mwalshe99 : oiii
[2015-11-01 23:20:08] mwalshe99 : you guys and your awesome security
[2015-11-01 23:21:29] sleger : what's the matching engine language ? (c++, java ... ?)
[2015-11-01 23:21:43] BitMEX_Sam : sleger: Q - http://kx.com/
[2015-11-01 23:22:17] BitMEX_Sam : http://kx.com/software.php has some more details
[2015-11-01 23:22:34] sleger : isnt kdb super duper expensive to maintain ?
[2015-11-01 23:22:43] sleger : in terms of hardware costs
[2015-11-01 23:26:25] mwalshe99 : finex breaking out
[2015-11-01 23:26:42] BitMEX_Sam : sleger: Not at all, it has very modest hardware requirements
[2015-11-01 23:27:08] mwalshe99 : sam is there a way for us to check the weight against each of the exchanges for the fair price?
[2015-11-01 23:27:38] BitMEX_Sam : mwalshe99: https://tradeblock.com/markets/index/ publishes weightings but they are only hourly, we're working on either having them publish more frequent weightings, or setting it up here ourselves
[2015-11-01 23:28:37] mwalshe99 : perfect thanks
[2015-11-01 23:42:58] wurstgelee : glad to see coinbase's influence on the index is reduced again ;)
[2015-11-01 23:43:32] wurstgelee : 60% wasnt funny :|
[2015-11-01 23:50:17] BitMEX_Sam : https://www.bitmex.com/app/isolatedMargin - new guide on isolated/cross margin
[2015-11-02 00:15:49] Murch : Well written I'm sure it'll help people.
[2015-11-02 00:20:10] mwalshe99 : Sam, any chance you could change the name of the chatroom to something else but trollbox?
[2015-11-02 00:20:36] mwalshe99 : just kinda promotes childish behaviour
[2015-11-02 00:21:05] mwalshe99 : silly request i know
[2015-11-02 00:21:40] mwalshe99 : just weird being on a propper trading engine with the words trollbox sticking out of the bottom
[2015-11-02 00:29:22] Original_Wolf : Ironically, everyone has been completely of the upper intelligence in regards to language, conversation subject, and matter of facts.
[2015-11-02 00:30:01] Murch : It's sort of a signature of the crypto environment.
[2015-11-02 00:31:54] cekseh : What is?
[2015-11-02 00:32:01] cekseh : Certainly not what wolf mentioned
[2015-11-02 00:32:11] Murch : Trollbox as the name of the chatboxes
[2015-11-02 00:32:19] cekseh : Ah, yes
[2015-11-02 00:34:46] mwalshe99 : yea but who wants a business like everyone elses?
[2015-11-02 00:34:58] mwalshe99 : most of the exchanges are known to be unprofessional and poor
[2015-11-02 00:35:01] mwalshe99 : why copy them?
[2015-11-02 00:35:12] mwalshe99 : especially btce who started all this trolbox crap
[2015-11-02 00:35:44] Murch : I feel like you're overthinking it but to each his own.
[2015-11-02 00:35:55] mwalshe99 : yea probably
[2015-11-02 00:35:59] mwalshe99 : just bored as fuck tbh
[2015-11-02 00:36:07] Murch : I feel ya
[2015-11-02 00:36:12] mwalshe99 : checking everything on the exchange out
[2015-11-02 00:36:32] Murch : The interface sure is sexy as hell though.
[2015-11-02 00:37:39] mwalshe99 : yup. system seems responsive. security seems good. i love the idea of using an index instead of the current price aswell
[2015-11-02 00:37:43] mwalshe99 : just needs more liquidity
[2015-11-02 00:38:12] Murch : Agreed on all points.
[2015-11-02 00:38:54] Murch : If there is another bubble then liquidity is on the way loool
[2015-11-02 00:40:19] mwalshe99 : dont think there will be another bubble :(
[2015-11-02 00:40:51] Murch : It feels like now or never but we'll see.
[2015-11-02 00:41:14] mwalshe99 : am confident for 400 sooon though
[2015-11-02 00:41:32] mwalshe99 : like, next few nonths max
[2015-11-02 00:41:37] mwalshe99 : maybe next week
[2015-11-02 00:42:22] Murch : Next week seems possible
[2015-11-02 00:43:10] Murch : Thing about bitcoin is once the momentum starts it can be relentless.
[2015-11-02 00:43:23] Murch : Might be a product of its small size..
[2015-11-02 00:49:32] xelamat : at what price will there be decent liquidity on long dated futures? the spread on the march 25 order book is silly for non trivial amounts
[2015-11-02 00:50:57] BitMEX_Sam : xelamat: Unfortunately all I can say is, "when someone provides it". We're working on more market making relationships to improve the situation, but our concentration is on making the shorter-term futures as liquid as possible.
[2015-11-02 00:53:17] xelamat : fair enough, and I do have to say that acting as market maker with a bit of patience does yield some great deals. However, any suggestions for going long btc in larger volumes in terms of btc without having to roll daily/weekly? Or maybe an automated way to rollover?
[2015-11-02 00:55:24] xelamat : Actually if I understand correctly, even the long dated futures are basically rolling on a weekly basis via "rebalancing", any way to just link up the order books to boost liquidity?
[2015-11-02 00:56:15] BitMEX_Sam : xelamat: I'm sure Arthur might have some suggestions about that, I'll have him ping you in a bit.
[2015-11-02 00:56:54] BitMEX_Sam : As for books sharing liquidity, definitely something we've thought about in terms of the cal spreads (which are unlisted at the time due to liquidity concerns)
[2015-11-02 00:57:49] xelamat : That would be great. And thanks, appreciate how attentive you are to questions. I really love what you're doing in the exchange space.
[2015-11-02 00:58:49] BitMEX_Sam : Thanks xelamat, we're trying to improve every day. We appreciate suggestions like this
[2015-11-02 01:10:09] wurstgelee : ouch. that wall is gone @ finex
[2015-11-02 01:51:48] cengel : does total turnover in affiliate include maker turnover or only commission-generating taker volume?
[2015-11-02 01:53:38] cengel : for the purpose of the payout structure % levels
[2015-11-02 01:55:22] cengel : The wording of the doc looks like its any turnover, and the commissions obviously only on taker. Just verifying.
[2015-11-02 02:35:15] BitMEX_Wally : cengel: Yes turnover includes any turnover including settlements
[2015-11-02 02:35:30] cengel : Thanks for clarifying
[2015-11-02 02:38:29] messiaen8844 : BTC-e $20 behind bitfinex? is bitcoinwisdom correct
[2015-11-02 02:57:51] mwalshe99 : yup. its 50 behind OKC CNY
[2015-11-02 04:50:05] mtourig3 : BitMEX_Wally: Hi quick question: when the XBT24H contacts expire (7 hrs) does your position get sold at market price?
[2015-11-02 04:52:26] mtourig3 : or can anyone answer?
[2015-11-02 04:55:40] gaoMex : mtourig3: settlement price.
[2015-11-02 04:56:42] BitMEX_Wally : mtourig3: Your position gets sold at the settlement price which is calculated from the index
[2015-11-02 04:57:15] BitMEX_Wally : So it is effectively the market price of Bitcoin
[2015-11-02 05:00:24] mtourig3 : so the fair price?
[2015-11-02 05:00:48] mtourig3 : listed in the middle of the orderbook?
[2015-11-02 05:09:13] JDUB99 : Anyone see the big spike on okcoin?
[2015-11-02 05:09:35] JDUB99 : =p
[2015-11-02 05:11:06] gaoMex : USD?
[2015-11-02 05:17:07] JDUB99 : yes
[2015-11-02 05:17:10] JDUB99 : only on ok, other exchanges don't have it
[2015-11-02 05:17:48] gaoMex : I noticed. Seems to have an effect on the rest of the USD exchanges.
[2015-11-02 05:17:49] BitMEX_Wally : mtourig3: Yes, the fairPrice decays into the settlement price
[2015-11-02 06:56:10] Swedishnut : wowzer volume is on fire
[2015-11-02 08:08:23] donchard : pls what this error message all about Order could not be submitted: Executing at 325 would cause immediate liquidation. Try disabling isolated margin.
[2015-11-02 08:09:12] BitMEX_Arthur : donchard: We do a risk check, if your order was filled at a price that would place your position in margin call we do not allow you to submit that order
[2015-11-02 08:09:25] BitMEX_Arthur : What exactly are you trying to do?
[2015-11-02 08:10:02] donchard : placing stop loss
[2015-11-02 08:11:03] BitMEX_Arthur : A stop limit order where the trigger price would cause you to be in a margin call is not allowed at the present moment.
[2015-11-02 08:25:57] BitMEX_Wally : donchard: You are short `XBTH16` but have placed a StopLimit to buy `XBT24H`?
[2015-11-02 08:27:03] donchard : am just try to perfect
[2015-11-02 08:27:24] donchard : but the xbt is not trigerring
[2015-11-02 08:28:09] BitMEX_Wally : Your StopLimit order to buy `XBT24H` will trigger then the mark price reaches 340
[2015-11-02 08:28:22] BitMEX_Wally : The mark price is currently 332.64
[2015-11-02 08:30:05] donchard : how do i place take profit and stoploss when i want to buy or sell
[2015-11-02 08:30:30] BitMEX_Wally : A take profit order is just a Limit order
[2015-11-02 08:30:55] BitMEX_Wally : So if you are long `XBT24H` just put a Limit order to sell at 340 (say)
[2015-11-02 08:31:12] donchard : okay
[2015-11-02 08:31:13] BitMEX_Wally : You can also place a Stop Limit order to sell at 320 (say)
[2015-11-02 08:31:33] donchard : ok
[2015-11-02 09:08:15] Gemz : when is the btc auction? nov 5th?
[2015-11-02 09:23:55] BitMEX_Wally : Gemz: http://www.usmarshals.gov/news/chron/2015/100515.htm
[2015-11-02 09:24:05] BitMEX_Wally : The auction will take place during a six-hour period Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST
[2015-11-02 09:24:57] Gemz : thanks
[2015-11-02 10:50:48] ohmannomma : whats the difference between a closure for stop loss and a forced liquidation? same commissions or more?
[2015-11-02 11:01:29] BitMEX_Wally : ohmannomma: Liquidations are charged the Taker Fee, but with a Stop Limit order it could be a Maker or a Taker
[2015-11-02 11:55:59] stf28 : i don't like this question ^^
[2015-11-02 12:03:11] wurstgelee : moon :)
[2015-11-02 12:05:05] gaoMex : not yet.
[2015-11-02 12:05:12] gaoMex : sky for now. :)
[2015-11-02 12:06:52] mwalshe99 : wurstgelee: moon. VIA THE CORE
[2015-11-02 12:07:25] gaoMex : might be good to load up LTC now.
[2015-11-02 12:14:04] Gemz : WHAT IS LITECOIN?
[2015-11-02 12:14:09] Gemz : sry caps
[2015-11-02 12:14:21] Gemz : its all about bitcoin now
[2015-11-02 12:14:21] megaka5 : how long does it usually takes until the daily withdraw batch is checked and submited? (how long after 12 utc does it take max until my withdraw gets trough) ?!
[2015-11-02 12:17:14] Gemz : bitcoin about to break out to the upper side
[2015-11-02 12:22:58] jung1 : damn what a pump
[2015-11-02 12:23:01] jung1 : $10
[2015-11-02 12:27:35] j8 : kind of bad timing for china, can't count on them buying for another 12 hours or so. maybe US will close the gap today
[2015-11-02 12:28:54] lud__ : hello bitmex, am trying to understand how I can use stop orders. Say I am in a long on XBT24H from 330, price is 345, how to put a sell stop at 340?
[2015-11-02 12:29:40] messiaen8844 : I have a question also, if my liquidation point gets reached will other stop orders on the same contract be cancelled aswell,
[2015-11-02 12:30:05] jung1 : lud__: go on close limit
[2015-11-02 12:30:12] jung1 : in order control
[2015-11-02 12:31:03] j8 : messiaen8844: i believe the first thing that happens in liquidation is cancelling all your orders
[2015-11-02 12:32:39] messiaen8844 : thanks, will try if 1 contract just to be sur ;
[2015-11-02 12:32:47] BitMEX_Wally : lud__: If you are long then you want a Stop Limit order to Sell with a Stop Price of 340
[2015-11-02 12:33:06] BitMEX_Wally : jung1: A Close Limit order is for taking profit, not stop lossing
[2015-11-02 12:34:03] messiaen8844 : thanks wally, so Close Limit will cancel Stop Limit then?
[2015-11-02 12:35:30] BitMEX_Wally : A close limit order is just simple way of enter a Limit Order, it fills in the quantity and direction based on your position at the time
[2015-11-02 12:35:54] BitMEX_Wally : We are looking at implementing OCO orders (one-cancels-the-other) which will do what you want.
[2015-11-02 12:36:40] BitMEX_Wally : i.e. if you want a stop loss and a take profit but only want 1 of these orders to execute then an OCO with a StopLimit and a Limit order would suit
[2015-11-02 12:37:11] lud__ : Wally, and on the Stop Limit order, Stop price triggers an order at Limit price?
[2015-11-02 12:39:58] BitMEX_Wally : Yes
[2015-11-02 12:40:14] lud__ : ok, thanks
[2015-11-02 12:40:19] roymalmberg : can you have a limit stop that sells at market?
[2015-11-02 12:41:25] BitMEX_Wally : roymalmberg: We are working on implementing that
[2015-11-02 12:42:24] BitMEX_Wally : `Market` and `Stop` orders have no limit price and are very dangerous
[2015-11-02 12:43:28] roymalmberg : Yes in a illiquid market
[2015-11-02 12:44:35] roymalmberg : but I'm thinking; if i go to sleep and want to exit at price X and stop limit is missed price is going to slide and i might not get out?
[2015-11-02 12:45:11] lud__ : again for Stop Limit Order, what happens if Stop price and Limit price are the same? Say trigger is 340, limit is 340?
[2015-11-02 12:46:02] lud__ : (and by the time it is triggered, price is at 339)
[2015-11-02 12:50:07] BitMEX_Wally : lud__: The order will sit in the book
[2015-11-02 12:50:20] BitMEX_Wally : If you are long, I suggest you put the limit price below the stop price
[2015-11-02 12:53:38] zanza : stamp is driving the price up now
[2015-11-02 13:00:29] megaka5 : how long does it take until withdraws from yesterday are processed? (i thought batches are checked manually @ 12 UTC - thats one hour ago and i still cant see any incoming tx :(
[2015-11-02 13:01:18] sleger : maybe its due to DST
[2015-11-02 13:04:17] BitMEX_Wally : megaka5: Let me check
[2015-11-02 13:04:52] megaka5 : BitMEX_Wally: thx
[2015-11-02 13:06:38] BitMEX_Wally : megaka5: Your transaction was processed and broadcast 30 mins ago, let me check the blockchain
[2015-11-02 13:07:36] megaka5 : yeah i just relized its unconfirmed on blockr.io but not shown on blockchain.info
[2015-11-02 13:09:54] BitMEX_Wally : Yeah, it looks like someone took the transaction and rebroadcast it with a different hash
[2015-11-02 13:10:03] BitMEX_Wally : transaction malleability
[2015-11-02 13:10:31] BitMEX_Wally : blockr.io shows both transactions as pending
[2015-11-02 13:10:41] BitMEX_Wally : blockchain.info will warn about a double spend
[2015-11-02 13:11:16] megaka5 : ok so thanks for the help, i guess i just have to wait for it to clear up.
[2015-11-02 13:11:20] BitMEX_Wally : Actually, it looks like it's been confirmed
[2015-11-02 13:11:43] BitMEX_Wally : But the other tx is still floating around these block explorers
[2015-11-02 13:12:32] j8 : had that happen to a withdrawal the other day. also, the multisig transactions can be pretty big, i got neglected for several blocks because of low fee
[2015-11-02 13:12:33] BitMEX_Wally : Yes, chain.com says it has 5 confirmations
[2015-11-02 13:15:32] BitMEX_Wally : megaka5: I have emailed you
[2015-11-02 14:06:22] mwalshe99 : BitMEX_Wally: Wally, just out of curiosity, whats the best ROI out of all of your traders?
[2015-11-02 14:06:41] mwalshe99 : BitMEX_Wally: i say all of your traders, i mean customers
[2015-11-02 14:07:00] BitMEX_Wally : Not sure, would have to look
[2015-11-02 14:07:06] j8 : not public information
[2015-11-02 14:08:18] mwalshe99 : j8: its not identifiable. just curious with 100x
[2015-11-02 14:08:30] mwalshe99 : j8: must be some big ROIs
[2015-11-02 14:08:44] BitMEX_Wally : It's hard to calculate, because what do you count as the investment. Deposits? What about withdrawals?
[2015-11-02 14:09:06] BitMEX_Wally : Or do you just mean the biggest daily unrealised ROE?
[2015-11-02 14:09:33] mwalshe99 : (balance+total withdrawals)/total deposits
[2015-11-02 14:10:36] mwalshe99 : as i said, just curious, need a target :)
[2015-11-02 14:11:36] SnackyCoins : you could do that easily mwalshe, just find the $ of a big move and pretend it was played on 100x
[2015-11-02 14:11:47] SnackyCoins : assume someone got the best possible trade on that move because at least 1 person did
[2015-11-02 14:12:01] mwalshe99 : SnackyCoins: yea, its just interesting
[2015-11-02 14:12:03] BitMEX_Wally : Hah I just ran a query and some people have made infinity
[2015-11-02 14:12:08] mwalshe99 : LOL
[2015-11-02 14:12:10] SnackyCoins : lol
[2015-11-02 14:12:14] BitMEX_Wally : Because they never deposited, just affiliate payouts
[2015-11-02 14:12:16] mwalshe99 : think you might have a problem! ;)
[2015-11-02 14:12:23] mwalshe99 : affiliate payouts?
[2015-11-02 14:12:28] mwalshe99 : wheres your affiliate system?
[2015-11-02 14:12:31] SnackyCoins : must be BTCVIX's account ;)
[2015-11-02 14:12:43] BitMEX_Wally : https://www.bitmex.com/app/affiliates
[2015-11-02 14:12:50] BitMEX_Wally : You have a personal affiliate link you can share
[2015-11-02 14:12:57] BitMEX_Wally : Anyone you refer will get a 10% discount on fees
[2015-11-02 14:13:07] BitMEX_Wally : And you'll get at least 10% of any fees they pay
[2015-11-02 14:14:08] mwalshe99 : BitMEX_Wally: so yeah, wally, whats the average for the top 10% of traders for ROI?
[2015-11-02 14:14:17] mwalshe99 : maybe sort by people who have deposited atleast 0.5 btc?
[2015-11-02 14:14:31] BitMEX_Wally : The best trader has a margin balance that is 6.5x his deposits
[2015-11-02 14:14:39] mwalshe99 : hah.
[2015-11-02 14:14:48] mwalshe99 : give me another day ;)
[2015-11-02 14:15:05] mwalshe99 : although back to work tomorrow do no day tradin
[2015-11-02 14:15:12] mwalshe99 : this exchange is literally a day traders wet dream :)
[2015-11-02 14:16:01] BitMEX_Wally : mwalshe99: You're doing well
[2015-11-02 14:16:36] SnackyCoins : slightly on topic, i would like to see sentiment data published eventually (maybe around the time there's the liquidity to re-add contracts)
[2015-11-02 14:17:21] mwalshe99 : Wally, sorry for all the questions, but very unlikely going to get a chance to talk to you guys if/once this exchange blows up
[2015-11-02 14:17:32] mwalshe99 : what happens if your AWS account gets compromised?
[2015-11-02 14:17:51] BitMEX_Wally : All your Bitcoins are safe
[2015-11-02 14:17:57] mwalshe99 : perfect
[2015-11-02 14:18:03] BitMEX_Wally : They are stored in multisig wallets and the keys are held by the partners
[2015-11-02 14:18:15] mwalshe99 : you guys have smashed it
[2015-11-02 14:18:16] BitMEX_Wally : 2 of the 3 partners must manually sign each withdrawal
[2015-11-02 14:18:48] SnackyCoins : someday wally/sam/arthur will be too busy and zane tackett will be hired to talk to us xD
[2015-11-02 14:19:42] BitMEX_Wally : Hahah
[2015-11-02 14:19:47] j8 : his job would be a lot easier than customer relations for bitmex/okc
[2015-11-02 14:19:50] j8 : **finex
[2015-11-02 14:19:56] BitMEX_Wally : We need to chat to you guys so we know how we are doing
[2015-11-02 14:20:05] BitMEX_Wally : Feature suggestions, etc.
[2015-11-02 14:20:22] mwalshe99 : i've used every major exchange over the years and as a base, this seems the best
[2015-11-02 14:20:26] BitMEX_Wally : Sure, we have hired people for customer service, but that's just handling tickets
[2015-11-02 14:20:37] mwalshe99 : time will tell though if you guys can keep up with the scale but all looks really good right now
[2015-11-02 14:20:49] BitMEX_Wally : mwalshe99: Thanks :)
[2015-11-02 14:21:04] SnackyCoins : in or outsourced support?
[2015-11-02 14:21:10] BitMEX_Wally : In house
[2015-11-02 14:21:29] SnackyCoins : in house remotely ya? :)
[2015-11-02 14:21:41] mwalshe99 : features: add a current balance to the transaction history after each transaction. makes keeping up with our trade success/fees allot easier
[2015-11-02 14:21:57] SnackyCoins : I should have sent in my resume ;)
[2015-11-02 14:22:39] SnackyCoins : though I am probably making more trading this rally than I would make answering tickets
[2015-11-02 14:24:34] BitMEX_Wally : SnackyCoins: This is our approach to customer support: http://blog.fogcreek.com/scaling-customer-service-by-fixing-things-twice/
[2015-11-02 14:24:51] fyrstikken : also use bitmex teamspeak
[2015-11-02 14:24:56] fyrstikken : ts.bitmex.com
[2015-11-02 14:25:02] fyrstikken : add it in a new tab
[2015-11-02 14:30:29] SnackyCoins : The article puts it eloquently wally. I fixed issues at my last job by a similar method :) But i was the sole support and also sole process decisionmaker so it was mostly "ok how do I stop getting these calls"
[2015-11-02 15:01:12] lud__ : Don't know if its a bug: when switching to "remove margin", confirmation button says "Add margin"
[2015-11-02 15:03:23] BitMEX_Sam : lud__: Thanks
[2015-11-02 15:03:32] BitMEX_Sam : You're correct - will fix
[2015-11-02 15:11:58] lud__ : cool, np
[2015-11-02 15:13:27] mwalshe99 : fucka
[2015-11-02 15:15:38] mwalshe99 : love the autocorrect
[2015-11-02 15:30:34] Murch : Could you please put the +/- whatever the mark price is compared to entry price in () in the order controls somewhere?
[2015-11-02 15:30:59] Murch : You guys did put it there at one point and I found it pretty useful to tell how the position is doing at a glance.
[2015-11-02 15:31:35] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah, we thought the order controls were getting a bit too crowded
[2015-11-02 15:31:46] BitMEX_Sam : Are you using the basic or adv layout?
[2015-11-02 15:32:59] Murch : I'm using adv.
[2015-11-02 15:34:09] BitMEX_Sam : Ok. Good to know - we'll re-evaluate it
[2015-11-02 15:34:17] Murch : Thank you sir!
[2015-11-02 15:35:28] Murch : Was also wondering if you planned on adding in a calculator where you can put # of contracts, entry, and exit and then it tells you the gain/loss?
[2015-11-02 15:41:14] BitMEX_Sam : Murch: That already exists, click the Order Options dropdown on the top right of the controls
[2015-11-02 15:41:46] Murch : Oh whoops my bad! Thanks for that haha.
[2015-11-02 16:48:07] mwalshe99 : wow opened an order earlier and it got liquidated almost instantly
[2015-11-02 16:48:34] mwalshe99 : might be worth having another popup that says your liq price is very close to the index price when opening orders
[2015-11-02 16:48:41] mwalshe99 : if it is close
[2015-11-02 16:49:13] BitMEX_Wally : mwalshe99: Good idea, I'll ask BitMEX_Sam to look into it
[2015-11-02 16:50:03] mwalshe99 : (: thanks
[2015-11-02 16:50:13] BitMEX_Wally : I the order will be immediately liquidated (without any movement in the mark price) then we already reject the order, so it makes sense to have a warning when its close
[2015-11-02 16:50:27] BitMEX_Wally : *If
[2015-11-02 16:50:39] mwalshe99 : yuuup
[2015-11-02 17:05:58] rodrigobwn : Hi Wally, its my first time in here
[2015-11-02 17:06:08] rodrigobwn : can you help me?
[2015-11-02 17:07:34] BitMEX_Wally : rodrigobwn: Sure, how can I help?
[2015-11-02 17:08:31] rodrigobwn : whats the diference of the tabs, limit and stop limit? can you give me an example of situations that I can use?
[2015-11-02 17:12:05] BitMEX_Wally : A limit order can be used to enter or exit a position. If you are buying then the limit price is the most you are willing to pay
[2015-11-02 17:13:11] BitMEX_Wally : If I wanted to go long I might place a Limit order to Buy 1000 contracts at 342.00
[2015-11-02 17:13:30] BitMEX_Wally : Looking at the order book that would probably get filled immediately
[2015-11-02 17:14:12] rodrigobwn : so, the limit price is the price that I want to get iin a position....
[2015-11-02 17:14:14] BitMEX_Wally : a Stop Limit order can be used to implement a stop loss strategy. If I was long and I want to limit my losses in a fall in price
[2015-11-02 17:14:32] BitMEX_Wally : rodrigobwn: Yes, you will get in at 342.00 or less
[2015-11-02 17:16:07] rodrigobwn : ok, so the diference of the tabs is that at the stop limit I can already set up my stop loss at the entrance
[2015-11-02 17:17:43] BitMEX_Wally : You could use the Limit tab to open a long position
[2015-11-02 17:17:47] rodrigobwn : and a question, if I still adding marging when the market is against my position, and the stop loss is set up and we reach the price, it will liquidate?
[2015-11-02 17:17:49] BitMEX_Wally : Once you have a long position you might use the Stop Limit tab to set a sell order
[2015-11-02 17:19:13] BitMEX_Wally : Once the mark price reaches the stop price of your stop limit order it will be triggered. You can cancel your stop limit order and re-submit
[2015-11-02 17:19:49] BitMEX_Wally : if you want to change the stop price
[2015-11-02 17:20:01] rodrigobwn : i see
[2015-11-02 17:20:05] rodrigobwn : thanks
[2015-11-02 17:20:25] BitMEX_Wally : Try placing a few orders for just 1 contract or so
[2015-11-02 17:20:54] BitMEX_Wally : 1 contract is worth 0.0034 Bitcoin and only costs 0.000034 Bitcoin in margin
[2015-11-02 17:25:04] BitMEX_Wally : I'm heading out now, BitMEX_Sam will be around if you have any questions
[2015-11-02 17:26:24] macios15 : china pump

[2015-11-02 17:58:32] mwalshe99 : give it a bit for confirmation but the market is going to be skeptic as fuck

[2015-11-02 18:17:30] mwalshe99 : think the bears are going to kick in a retrace first
[2015-11-02 18:19:52] macios15 : mwalshe99: i bet 3k cny before end of the week
[2015-11-02 18:20:11] mwalshe99 : macios15: might hold you to that
[2015-11-02 18:20:19] wurstgelee : it would go further and say within 24h

[2015-11-02 18:20:59] wurstgelee : yep
[2015-11-02 18:21:06] wurstgelee : has to close the gap anyways
[2015-11-02 18:21:33] wurstgelee : i like it better when finex closes gap to upper bounds instead of china lowering ;)
[2015-11-02 18:21:47] mwalshe99 : im short
[2015-11-02 18:21:54] mwalshe99 : i'd rather they waited until i close my short
[2015-11-02 18:22:02] mwalshe99 : as the fair price here relys on finex
[2015-11-02 18:22:06] mwalshe99 : :(

[2015-11-02 18:52:32] Swedishnut : anyone else get the feeling that if btc breaks out the stocks will take a hit?
[2015-11-02 18:53:19] sleger : no
[2015-11-02 18:53:43] Swedishnut : s&p over 2100 seems inflated or begging for another correction though?
[2015-11-02 18:54:27] mwalshe99 : Swedishnut: btc is so small if it breaks out it won't even touch the stock market
[2015-11-02 18:55:35] j8 : btc is small compared to individual tech stocks even
[2015-11-02 18:55:40] sleger : exactly
[2015-11-02 18:55:54] Swedishnut : gotcha. yeah it is 1/10th the value of UBER atm so your right. I'm invested in things like Bitshares too. and see lots of possibilities other than currency that BTC price aids in adding new talent etc... changing old ways etc...
[2015-11-02 18:56:43] justinlooking : 50bln for uber - what a joke
[2015-11-02 18:56:51] Swedishnut : Western Union being one company that is a "Dino" if you will
[2015-11-02 18:57:05] justinlooking : reckon music will stop there before IPO
[2015-11-02 19:00:53] Swedishnut : or paying tolls with crypto and paying for a red cup at a house party with a live ticker of the earned funds? Churches sending money to missionaries and they see the balance grow with each "prayer"
[2015-11-02 19:02:12] Swedishnut : I think people will come to truly enjoy seeing their money safely transferred to their friends. Wherever period. sorry for the rant.
[2015-11-02 19:05:21] sleger : venmo already does all that no ?
[2015-11-02 19:07:41] BitMEX_Sam : Insanity right now
[2015-11-02 19:07:49] wurstgelee : yep
[2015-11-02 19:08:02] wurstgelee : btc wants $350. now ;)
[2015-11-02 19:08:18] BitMEX_Sam : chinese futs as high as 380
[2015-11-02 19:08:26] BitMEX_Sam : Pizpie is calling it all out pretty well on the whaleclub ts
[2015-11-02 19:09:19] BitMEX_Sam : XBTH16 has completely taken off

[2015-11-02 19:12:03] BitMEX_Sam : http://www.whaleclub.org/live-stream/
[2015-11-02 19:13:36] sleger : is the 50k order a liquidation ?
[2015-11-02 19:13:53] mwalshe99 : nope
[2015-11-02 19:13:59] mwalshe99 : gonna eat that in a sec
[2015-11-02 19:14:06] mwalshe99 : or atleast take a chunk out of it
[2015-11-02 19:14:14] mwalshe99 : just waiting for the retrace
[2015-11-02 19:14:16] BitMEX_Sam : 2300 on okc
[2015-11-02 19:14:29] wurstgelee : yep
[2015-11-02 19:14:34] wurstgelee : holy fuck
[2015-11-02 19:14:38] wurstgelee : =)
[2015-11-02 19:14:52] BitMEX_Sam : Watch yourself traders, last price might start to diverge from mark during high volatility, be sure to check your liq prices and isolate with caution
[2015-11-02 19:18:12] Swedishnut : 368 is the magic # :P
[2015-11-02 19:19:26] j8 : BitMEX_Sam: my bitmex tab is eating memory after a while... 1.3 GB earlier today
[2015-11-02 19:19:41] BitMEX_Sam : j8: Thanks, I've been squashing memory leaks one by one
[2015-11-02 19:19:58] Yumi : it actually improved for me today
[2015-11-02 19:20:01] BitMEX_Sam : The chart has some issues unfortunately - in any case a refresh usually reclaims the memory
[2015-11-02 19:20:13] BitMEX_Sam : I'm going to profile it right now, I've had the tab open for most of the day
[2015-11-02 19:20:23] j8 : it seems i have to close and open the tab to clear it.
[2015-11-02 19:20:33] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah Chrome weirdly holds onto memory if you don't close entirely
[2015-11-02 19:20:46] BitMEX_Sam : Profile is golden. 59MB. Let me know if you see huge mem usage again
[2015-11-02 19:21:07] j8 : mine's at 539 MB, i'll try resetting again
[2015-11-02 19:21:20] BitMEX_Sam : Looks like the chart eats it up
[2015-11-02 19:21:32] BitMEX_Sam : Also keep in mind that Chrome just loves to eat up memory it's not even using
[2015-11-02 19:21:43] BitMEX_Sam : It'll forfeit it if another process asks
[2015-11-02 19:22:29] BitMEX_Sam : Big 50k order got eaten by someone
[2015-11-02 19:22:51] j8 : really gets my fan going, and poor response after a while. i just updated to the chrome beta so i wonder if there's an issue
[2015-11-02 19:24:11] AudibleScience : BitMEX_Sam: i've not been online that long... but my mem is at about 165 MB
[2015-11-02 19:24:32] BitMEX_Sam : Hmm. j8 I'll keep an eye on it
[2015-11-02 19:24:35] j8 : advanced view is worse, likely the chart
[2015-11-02 19:24:44] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah. The chart just eats it up
[2015-11-02 19:24:50] BitMEX_Sam : TradingView wasn't built for power efficiency
[2015-11-02 19:24:51] AudibleScience : I'll keep an eye on it... but it seems much better today!
[2015-11-02 19:25:41] AudibleScience : seems to be keeping itself under 165 MB now... that's much better!
[2015-11-02 19:26:05] AudibleScience : (159 MB now)
[2015-11-02 19:29:28] BitMEX_Sam : Not bad at all
[2015-11-02 19:30:01] roymalmberg : BitMex_Sam: I have an idea or a wish, being able to place set time activation/expiration on stop limits/limits
[2015-11-02 19:30:09] roymalmberg : Would really help me :) Would love that
[2015-11-02 19:30:46] roymalmberg : that and trailing stops
[2015-11-02 19:31:09] j8 : i have a wish also... that the cancel all button doesn't cancel stops
[2015-11-02 19:31:40] j8 : (i think it does?)
[2015-11-02 19:33:34] BitMEX_Sam : You're right, it does
[2015-11-02 19:33:45] BitMEX_Sam : roymalmberg: I'm with you, we're going to be adding more order types in the near future
[2015-11-02 19:34:01] BitMEX_Sam : BTW you can autocomplete names in the chat by just starting to type them
[2015-11-02 19:34:04] BitMEX_Sam : then hit tab
[2015-11-02 19:34:45] BitMEX_Sam : If it's the wrong name, hit tab again
[2015-11-02 19:34:53] roymalmberg : Ah nice, thank you mate
[2015-11-02 19:35:07] roymalmberg : BitMEX_Sam:
[2015-11-02 19:35:15] BitMEX_Sam : :)
[2015-11-02 19:35:27] BitMEX_Sam : BTW @everyone we're going to adjust the withdrawal time to 13 UTC starting tomorrow
[2015-11-02 19:35:38] BitMEX_Sam : We're going to do a round at 12 and at 13 in case anyone had plans.
[2015-11-02 19:35:58] BitMEX_Sam : Withdrawals at 13 UTC will allow you to have some time to move your profits around.
[2015-11-02 19:36:18] j8 : awesome.
[2015-11-02 19:39:00] macios15 : let the dump begin
[2015-11-02 19:39:06] justinlooking : lol wut
[2015-11-02 19:39:40] mwalshe99 : macios15: must say, as someone who has 25000 contracts in short, im not feeling to confident about this dump
[2015-11-02 19:39:58] BitMEX_Sam : Hah
[2015-11-02 19:40:02] macios15 : mwalshe99: not this attempt i think
[2015-11-02 19:40:06] macios15 : next time
[2015-11-02 19:40:46] mwalshe99 : macios15: a 2316 doubletop would have been lovely
[2015-11-02 19:40:57] mwalshe99 : looks like 1 more leg up
[2015-11-02 19:41:19] macios15 : to lazy to do this this time
[2015-11-02 19:42:07] micmix : I don't know, trying to time the top is dangerous, much easier to go with the flow and just follow the trend
[2015-11-02 19:43:01] mwalshe99 : nah
[2015-11-02 19:43:05] mwalshe99 : this leg up is too steep
[2015-11-02 19:43:16] mwalshe99 : retrace soon
[2015-11-02 19:43:22] mwalshe99 : so happy they are pumping early
[2015-11-02 19:43:45] mwalshe99 : need atleast another twenty thirty minutes to consolidate
[2015-11-02 19:43:56] mwalshe99 : this is gonna drop if bulls try and push
[2015-11-02 19:44:23] macios15 : yes, better for price to correct now, then atack and pass this top
[2015-11-02 19:44:41] micmix : Ah, ok, I'm trading on much longer timeframes
[2015-11-02 19:44:56] mwalshe99 : yea same. but i use this for short term
[2015-11-02 19:45:04] mwalshe99 : im 20x long from 1800 on OKC
[2015-11-02 19:45:13] mwalshe99 : not touching that for atleast another week
[2015-11-02 19:45:13] BitMEX_Sam : beautiful long
[2015-11-02 19:45:19] mwalshe99 : not gonna see 1800 any time soon
[2015-11-02 19:45:31] macios15 : 2280 or even 2260 and we still good
[2015-11-02 19:45:41] mwalshe99 : 2150 and were still good
[2015-11-02 19:45:44] mwalshe99 : 2000 and were still good
[2015-11-02 19:45:48] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah I have a $259 long on OKC I opened last mo
[2015-11-02 19:45:48] TschavaTschigger : wtf is going on with the price.... it just doesnt stop
[2015-11-02 19:45:51] BitMEX_Sam : Pretty happy with that
[2015-11-02 19:46:13] mwalshe99 : yea thats nice
[2015-11-02 19:46:36] micmix : yeah, same here, long on OKCoin quarterly from way back
[2015-11-02 19:46:52] macios15 : TschavaTschigger: its going for that 1k $ before december imo
[2015-11-02 19:47:12] macios15 : at least 450$
[2015-11-02 19:47:19] mwalshe99 : 450 maybe
[2015-11-02 19:47:20] mwalshe99 : not 1k
[2015-11-02 19:47:23] TschavaTschigger : macios15: well there is a slight difference between 450 and 1k
[2015-11-02 19:47:26] mwalshe99 : would eat my own shit if it hit 1k
[2015-11-02 19:48:04] macios15 : mwalshe99: scrined, its now or never
[2015-11-02 19:48:07] TschavaTschigger : the reason for todays boost is that many magazines had bitcoin topics on their covers in november and the money from the banks reached the market today
[2015-11-02 19:48:10] macios15 : look at 3d stoch rsi
[2015-11-02 19:49:13] mwalshe99 : fairly sure im about to get liquidated here
[2015-11-02 19:49:27] macios15 : bitcoin is the one who knocks
[2015-11-02 19:49:49] stf28 : mwalshe99: what would help you ?
[2015-11-02 19:50:02] micmix : To be on the safe side, I'm planning to close all positions before the auction. No one got bankrupt by taking profits.
[2015-11-02 19:50:03] mwalshe99 : stf28: fairprice staying below 355
[2015-11-02 19:50:18] stf28 : xbt7d?
[2015-11-02 19:50:30] mwalshe99 : stf28: 24h
