This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2016-10-23 23:34:06] rapidtrades : little late but better then never :)
[2016-10-23 23:36:35] BitMEX_Sam : In testing I found it to be very convenient.
[2016-10-23 23:36:51] rapidtrades : def saves some time
[2016-10-23 23:44:56] martinium : BitMEX_Sam: you are the man. That was on my list of wishes for this UI GJ
[2016-10-23 23:45:18] BitMEX_Sam : :+1:
[2016-10-24 00:08:02] billyboy402 : BitMEX_Sam: is there any way to get further history of funding cost ?
[2016-10-24 00:08:27] BitMEX_Sam : billyboy402: You can filter the table we show at https://www.bitmex.com/app/fundingHistory
[2016-10-24 00:08:35] BitMEX_Sam : Do you need more results than that? If so you can get it from the API
[2016-10-24 00:08:51] BitMEX_Sam : See https://www.bitmex.com/api/explorer/#!/Funding/Funding_get
[2016-10-24 00:09:02] billyboy402 : BitMEX_Sam: also ., why does bitmex remove the charts ( and add a QR code ) for depost when you widraw all ur fund
[2016-10-24 00:09:33] BitMEX_Sam : Ah that's intended to be a new user introduction. It shouldn't show if you've deposited before
[2016-10-24 00:09:35] BitMEX_Sam : I'll correct that.
[2016-10-24 00:10:51] billyboy402 : nar , I withdraw last night , and was going to look at the charts now but cant see it .
[2016-10-24 00:10:54] BitMEX_Sam : billyboy402: For now you can work around it by switching to the advanced layout (click your username at the top right).
[2016-10-24 00:11:26] billyboy402 : @BitMEX_Sam ok cool thanks
[2016-10-24 00:12:43] billyboy402 : Since Bitfinex hack , if i am not in a trade on exchance exchange I withdraw all coin . and you guys only take 1 conformation , so if i want to open an trade it only ~15 min to get BTC online and open a trade
[2016-10-24 00:14:10] billyboy402 : BitMEX_Sam: love the custom UI layout , so simple and easy
[2016-10-24 00:14:22] BitMEX_Sam : :+1: Glad you like it
[2016-10-24 00:16:24] billyboy402 : is there a table you can add for funnding cost of all coin
[2016-10-24 00:17:15] billyboy402 : also can you remove a table like MARGIN . i never use my account margin
[2016-10-24 00:18:02] dasdfasdf : column?
[2016-10-24 00:18:26] billyboy402 : dasdfasdf: no like a table / box
[2016-10-24 00:18:55] dasdfasdf : Drag to bottom?
[2016-10-24 00:19:13] billyboy402 : yea that what a did , put it down the bottom and made is smaller
[2016-10-24 01:20:50] rapidtrades : People’s Bank of China sets yuan reference rate at 6.7690 (vs. Friday at 6.7558)
[2016-10-24 02:07:44] martinium : Someone decided to sell quite a bit with the announcement
[2016-10-24 03:11:04] Rado : back to boring trading
[2016-10-24 03:13:06] jose : dont trade, just take the funding ;)
[2016-10-24 03:27:00] billyboy402 : jose: shhhhh
[2016-10-24 05:06:09] omicron : actually, im guessing some bitmex folks may be doing just that: eat the funding.
[2016-10-24 05:06:32] omicron : i think a bunch of bitfinexers were eating funding there too and got raped in the hack
[2016-10-24 05:10:58] jose : exactly 50% of bitmexers are eating the funding ;)
[2016-10-24 05:16:35] chromaticcr1 : nah, perhaps we got 1 big smartass over here opening all the short and making it rain
[2016-10-24 05:16:55] chromaticcr1 : opening all the long*
[2016-10-24 05:29:04] jose : Is funding rate capped to 0.375% on XBTUSD ?
[2016-10-24 05:32:30] Velancry : Anybody ready for the dump? Prepare your shorts
[2016-10-24 05:35:34] lockhedge : jose: yes, it's capped to `(Initial Margin - Maintenance Margin) * 0.75`
[2016-10-24 05:35:53] aethlios : jose: yes per 8hours, because leverage is back to x100 now.
[2016-10-24 05:36:31] jose : bad news for me xD
[2016-10-24 05:37:38] miramm1115 : 410% annual not enough?
[2016-10-24 05:38:03] jose : you forgot the leverage ;)
[2016-10-24 05:40:07] jose : in fact, you just need 3 BTC, you open 300 BTC short, and boom, you earn 1 free BTC
[2016-10-24 05:53:02] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBJ24H`: Buy 350 @ 68511
[2016-10-24 07:12:05] rapidtrades : why is BTC swap funding stuck at 0.375%
[2016-10-24 07:13:16] Kalman : https://www.bitmex.com/app/swapsGuide#Funding-Rate-Caps
[2016-10-24 07:19:43] Boontjie : is the maintenance margin on btc not lower now?
[2016-10-24 07:19:53] Boontjie : Initial*
[2016-10-24 07:20:41] Boontjie : 0.5*0.75
[2016-10-24 07:28:04] BitMEX_Arthur : Boontjie: the maintenance margin on `XBTUSD` has not changed, but the initial margin was lowered to 1%
[2016-10-24 08:18:27] omicron : seriously? if you short 100x with 3 btc, you get 1 BTC? This is better than "Lara with me"
[2016-10-24 08:19:03] omicron : doesnt make sense. i thought funding rate is .37% or so
[2016-10-24 08:19:58] omicron : cant see how any long can make any money here if that is true, every one should be shorting
[2016-10-24 08:20:22] Kalman : omicron: let them hear you ;)
[2016-10-24 08:21:56] omicron : can someone from bitmex confirm that the funding rate is leverage weighted?
[2016-10-24 08:22:11] omicron : fellow bitmexicans want to know
[2016-10-24 08:23:02] BitMEX_Arthur : omicron: It is not, let me get the link to the swaps guide for you
[2016-10-24 08:23:03] BitMEX_Arthur : explains everything
[2016-10-24 08:23:15] BitMEX_Arthur : https://www.bitmex.com/app/swapsGuide
[2016-10-24 08:23:19] Boontjie : https://www.bitmex.com/app/swapsGuide#Funding-Rate-Caps
[2016-10-24 08:23:29] Boontjie : That portion of it
[2016-10-24 08:23:39] omicron : BitMEX_Arthur: thanks. i panicked for a bit there
[2016-10-24 08:24:29] Boontjie : omicron: Still if you short 100x with 3 btc you will get 1 btc
[2016-10-24 08:24:42] Boontjie : The bots will move up the price after funding though
[2016-10-24 08:24:47] omicron : Boontjie: are you fvcking with me?
[2016-10-24 08:25:08] omicron : if all of us can get 1 btc for shorting 3 btc, then why isnt everyone doing it
[2016-10-24 08:25:08] Boontjie : No, 100x .375% = 37.5% of your capital
[2016-10-24 08:25:35] Boontjie : omicron: The bots will move up the price, you will be in 1 btc loss right after funding
[2016-10-24 08:25:57] jose : too risky, I have done it in august, i thought my heart will explode
[2016-10-24 08:26:31] omicron : so i can close my short right after funding and just before the bots move it in an HFT style trade?
[2016-10-24 08:26:47] omicron : assuming i somehow colocate with bitmex that is
[2016-10-24 08:26:51] Boontjie : if you believe you are faster than a computer then yes
[2016-10-24 08:27:15] omicron : no shit, i will get a computer to do it but i need colocation at bitmex subnet
[2016-10-24 08:27:25] jose : good luck, i wiil be here to catch your 300 BTC worth liquidation
[2016-10-24 08:27:28] omicron : heck. if they are reading this trollbox, they have already done it
[2016-10-24 08:27:30] Boontjie : oh to reduce latency to 0 lol
[2016-10-24 08:28:02] Boontjie : jose makes a good point, you are gambling with closing out 3 btc for 1 btc potentially
[2016-10-24 08:28:10] jose : and have a spread at 0 and infinite volatility
[2016-10-24 08:28:14] Boontjie : Go to vegas and bet it on black, you have better odds :)
[2016-10-24 08:28:47] omicron : if im going to vegas, im gonna need to use some of bitmex hookers and blow fund, if it still exists
[2016-10-24 08:29:33] omicron : amazon at London, eh? ya, i think i can get something on that subnet
[2016-10-24 08:29:57] omicron : shit btc looks like its reversing the entire move
[2016-10-24 08:30:03] jose : try it next funding, and you will think crack is a soft drug
[2016-10-24 08:30:39] omicron : how about 50x? then the bots wont get me right? i make 0.5 btc for 3 btc
[2016-10-24 08:30:51] Boontjie : jose: is there some way to follow I am cracking up right now
[2016-10-24 08:31:05] Boontjie : omicron: You are betting the market stays flat
[2016-10-24 08:31:16] Boontjie : The premium goes to 0 by next funding time
[2016-10-24 08:31:25] omicron : right of course. but im getting in at 1s before funding
[2016-10-24 08:31:35] Boontjie : the best time
[2016-10-24 08:31:48] jose : ever better, the last 2 funding, the market gone down, could have won a lot of money ! (or loose it all, ofc)
[2016-10-24 08:31:48] Boontjie : Its better to do this on decreasing funding levels
[2016-10-24 08:31:51] omicron : i submit the order 1s before funding, get my .5 btc, close out 1s later
[2016-10-24 08:32:06] Boontjie : You get the benefit of a larger funding for a smaller jump in premium
[2016-10-24 08:32:16] jose : the premium begin to reduce 1h before funding
[2016-10-24 08:32:26] jose : so you need to open at least 1h before
[2016-10-24 08:32:34] Boontjie : jose: the jump is based on predicted funding
[2016-10-24 08:32:40] omicron : ya, i knew there was a catch
[2016-10-24 08:32:53] omicron : otherwise someone would have figured out how to drain money out of this sucker
[2016-10-24 08:33:00] Boontjie : So even if it drops from 0.3 to 0.2, if predicted is at 0.1 then the jump will be based on the 0.1
[2016-10-24 08:33:29] Boontjie : omicron: I have, one problem is liquidity, do you have any idea how large 300 btc is
[2016-10-24 08:33:51] omicron : ya, its large but i only need 3 btc right
[2016-10-24 08:34:01] jose : really big 15% of daily liquidity
[2016-10-24 08:34:02] Boontjie : The market needs 300
[2016-10-24 08:34:26] omicron : right. there is not much at spread
[2016-10-24 08:38:14] hh : Why does BTC swap trading at premium? Any idea? Doesn't long position bleeding lots of interests?
[2016-10-24 08:38:50] Kalman : hh: more buyers than sellers & limitation to arbitrage ...
[2016-10-24 08:39:09] Kalman : *limitations
[2016-10-24 08:39:40] jose : what do you mean by limitation to arbitrage ?
[2016-10-24 08:40:47] Kalman : jose: If you do not have funds to buy spot your future sell will be a naked short
[2016-10-24 08:41:36] Kalman : for example
[2016-10-24 08:41:41] jose : you mean market makers already have their pockets full ?
[2016-10-24 08:42:47] Kalman : market makers aren't necessarily arbitrators
[2016-10-24 09:24:12] kumarz : omicron: re:funding, yes, case in point: I made practically nothing on the entire move from 620-660 on a +21kcontract position. Funding destroyed everything. Now on a tiny short position, I'm killing it lol.
[2016-10-24 09:30:22] habibi : and u will do nothing in every bull run if u will keep position probally
[2016-10-24 09:51:06] wurstgelee : come on baby, go down for daddy
[2016-10-24 09:51:08] wurstgelee : ;)
[2016-10-24 09:56:46] billyboy402 : wurstgelee: that disgusting she only a miner
[2016-10-24 10:12:19] zanza : shorting is basically the finex equivalent of lending
[2016-10-24 10:47:21] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBJ7D`: Sell 1666 @ 68449
[2016-10-24 10:47:32] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBJ7D`: Sell 25001 @ 67849
[2016-10-24 10:47:32] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBJ7D`: Sell 11 @ 68119
[2016-10-24 10:47:35] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBJ7D`: Sell 16000 @ 66885
[2016-10-24 10:47:49] Dann : wat how
[2016-10-24 10:48:42] mjones : Wtf
[2016-10-24 10:48:56] mjones : Damn yen margin called me
[2016-10-24 10:49:32] mjones : Pissed i lost hundreds
[2016-10-24 10:50:03] Dann : weird how did that happen :(
[2016-10-24 10:50:08] Dann : like btc didnt even dump
[2016-10-24 10:50:51] mjones : Quoine dumped hard for Some reason
[2016-10-24 10:52:10] Dann : i see it now... brutal
[2016-10-24 10:52:30] mjones : That's going to make me not want to trade here anymore
[2016-10-24 10:54:13] habibi : hehe power of unliquid japanese exchange, use to act like that in past few times
[2016-10-24 10:54:45] Dann : why trade on yen over usd?
[2016-10-24 10:55:05] mjones : My margin call was 3000 Yen away
[2016-10-24 10:59:10] mjones : And i was up over 300%. How was i suppose to protect myself
[2016-10-24 10:59:40] Dann : damn thats bs :(
[2016-10-24 10:59:41] mjones : I liked the no funding
[2016-10-24 11:00:02] habibi : magic! :D get use to
[2016-10-24 11:00:35] mjones : I'll have no money left if i get used to it
[2016-10-24 11:00:36] BitMEX_Arthur : I just spoke with Quoine and they told me it was a fat finger
[2016-10-24 11:01:22] habibi : BitMEX_Arthur: funny we have kinda same volume on 1h candle the previous ones
[2016-10-24 11:04:42] mjones : So i won't get my position or any money back from Bitmex due to you using 1 price to control the mark price that determines liquidations
[2016-10-24 11:05:41] BitMEX_Arthur : mjones: That is how the contract is structured, we take the Quoine XBT/JPY price
[2016-10-24 11:06:35] mjones : Well should add a warning that 50x and 100x can be margin called at anytime
[2016-10-24 11:06:56] wurstgelee : BitMEX_Arthur: out of curiosity, why dont u use some small interval TWAP price if theres only one exchange as index price?
[2016-10-24 11:07:13] wurstgelee : ouwld give a little protection against such fatfingers
[2016-10-24 11:07:16] wurstgelee : *would
[2016-10-24 11:08:48] BitMEX_Arthur : wurstgelee: Bitcoin and other coins are very volatile any delay in margin calling people could be the difference between closing out a liquidation order quickly and ADL
[2016-10-24 11:08:50] mjones : If bitfinex falls 20% everyone on here doesn't get margin called
[2016-10-24 11:08:59] BitMEX_Arthur : Bitfinex is not in the index
[2016-10-24 11:35:29] rapidtrades : wait a min
[2016-10-24 11:35:58] rapidtrades : i see a spike to 682 yday...like wtf happened
[2016-10-24 11:36:34] RocketScience : someone bought all the way up because it seemed like btc will explode in china
[2016-10-24 11:36:50] RocketScience : but bitstamp didn't bother to move an inch
[2016-10-24 11:41:03] rapidtrades : god damit....i gotta make a bot
[2016-10-24 11:41:27] sleger : heard you say the same in 2014
[2016-10-24 11:42:27] rapidtrades : actually u didn't know me before last year
[2016-10-24 11:46:10] sleger : time flies with you
[2016-10-24 11:46:46] jose : rapidtrades: you dont have any bot ?
[2016-10-24 11:47:51] Kalman : no bot no bugs no problems ;)
[2016-10-24 11:48:12] Kalman : but a law degree
[2016-10-24 11:48:57] sleger : who has a law degree ?
[2016-10-24 11:49:15] jose : engineering degree, but any idea about law
[2016-10-24 11:49:18] Kalman : wasn't rapid!?
[2016-10-24 11:50:06] sleger : lol
[2016-10-24 11:50:24] sleger : the degrees that come in the same box when you buy some toy ?
[2016-10-24 11:55:04] rapidtrades : another surgery?
[2016-10-24 12:01:03] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBTUSD`: Sell 1201 @ 649.26
[2016-10-24 12:06:11] Boontjie : why is the long getting rekt after funding
[2016-10-24 12:06:18] Boontjie : the price went up wtf
[2016-10-24 12:06:42] billyboy402 : yea i saw that the BTC pice , i think there keeping up so shorter earn money
[2016-10-24 12:06:59] RocketScience : maybe he was 100x and funding took big % of his margin money
[2016-10-24 12:07:34] Boontjie : still, I think the system has some lag problems. The funding rate should increase mark by how much he paid
[2016-10-24 12:07:36] RocketScience : 100x leverage * 0.375= 37,5% of margin if you have 100x lev
[2016-10-24 12:08:03] laisee : that seems like a bad bet ...
[2016-10-24 12:08:05] Boontjie : RocketScience: Sure but mark should be 0.375% higher
[2016-10-24 12:08:22] Boontjie : So you would be up the amount you paid
[2016-10-24 12:08:33] Boontjie : Something is wrong here
[2016-10-24 12:08:35] RocketScience : 647.6 -> 650 right now
[2016-10-24 12:09:13] Boontjie : If you were 100 times 1 bitcon. You would have paid 0.375
[2016-10-24 12:09:52] Boontjie : ah mark is 650/647.6 = 0.3705
[2016-10-24 12:10:10] Boontjie : So it is slightly lower than payment. Liquidated on the edge
[2016-10-24 12:10:37] RocketScience : the yen thing was really bad...i lost 11 contracts tho
[2016-10-24 12:10:52] RocketScience : wanted to go all in like 10 min before that fall to 67000
[2016-10-24 12:11:15] RocketScience : we should have chinese yuan futures based on okcoin/huobi
[2016-10-24 12:11:31] Boontjie : yeah, more index
[2016-10-24 12:12:15] RocketScience : bitstamp is a turtle following price
[2016-10-24 12:12:30] Hede : I got liquidared too even though price started to go up =o
[2016-10-24 12:12:42] laisee : think I will hold on to these ZEC until someone pries them from my cold, dead hands ...
[2016-10-24 12:14:36] Hede : Seems like these futures arent tradeable.. dont follow the price correctly
[2016-10-24 12:14:37] rapidtrades : i still don't get it...is funding for BTC capped at 0.375%
[2016-10-24 12:15:11] aethlios : rapidtrades: because leverage returned to x100
[2016-10-24 12:15:13] RocketScience : yes it is
[2016-10-24 12:15:29] Boontjie : rapidtrades: Yes, equation is (1% - 0.5%) * 0.75
[2016-10-24 12:15:48] rapidtrades : cool tnx
[2016-10-24 12:15:51] Boontjie : Previously (2% - 0.%) * 0.75
[2016-10-24 12:17:01] rapidtrades : weird...so max down from 1.5% to 0.375%
[2016-10-24 12:17:08] rapidtrades : quite a bit change
[2016-10-24 12:17:25] Boontjie : 1.125% to 0.375%
[2016-10-24 12:17:32] rapidtrades : NO
[2016-10-24 12:18:23] rapidtrades : Boontjie: u posted the equation? Previously (2% - 0.%) * 0.75
[2016-10-24 12:18:46] Boontjie : I missed the 0.5%
[2016-10-24 12:19:05] rapidtrades : ok...1.125% seems familiar so ur prolly right
[2016-10-24 12:19:35] Boontjie : Its a shame, now I cant gamble 1 btc to make 0.5 anymore
[2016-10-24 12:25:26] justinlooking : GREEN SELLS AND RED BUYS IS FIXED!!!!!!!
[2016-10-24 12:25:29] justinlooking : <3 u bitmex!!!
[2016-10-24 12:49:06] rapidtrades : man im so bored
[2016-10-24 12:50:44] laisee : wait till trump wins
[2016-10-24 12:51:21] rapidtrades : :)
[2016-10-24 12:51:37] laisee : 1st hing he will do is offer free visas to attractive russian ladies.
[2016-10-24 12:52:09] laisee : ... as his major foreign policy
[2016-10-24 13:03:20] messiaen8844 : woah
[2016-10-24 13:03:26] messiaen8844 : bullshit liquidations
[2016-10-24 13:03:35] messiaen8844 : how come my december futures got liquidated?
[2016-10-24 13:04:11] sleger : the MM needed more pnl
[2016-10-24 13:04:22] messiaen8844 : why couldn't mex just listen to users and have BTCUSD futures instead
[2016-10-24 13:04:39] messiaen8844 : not the first time very sudden movements in btcjpy
[2016-10-24 13:05:43] sleger : is there lot of liquidity on quoine ?
[2016-10-24 13:05:54] mjones : no
[2016-10-24 13:06:19] mjones : 80 BTC sold knocked it down 3%
[2016-10-24 13:07:28] mjones : actually i dont know how much was sold
[2016-10-24 13:07:49] sleger : there is probably more liquidity here, then easy to manipulate, sell a lot slowly here against the MM, then sell 100 on quoine, buy back here then on quoine and should profit
[2016-10-24 13:08:24] mjones : my margin call price was 66000. then i added to my long and it was 66855. price was 69000 and a second later i was margin called.
[2016-10-24 13:10:24] messiaen8844 : This is getting worse than the woodchipper
[2016-10-24 13:10:55] messiaen8844 : as least whipsaws there are more legitimate
[2016-10-24 13:11:05] sleger : well obviously the futures are in jpy, how could it be better ??
[2016-10-24 13:13:21] Boontjie : There is less liquidity here 73 btc would clear out the bidbook
[2016-10-24 13:14:04] sleger : i see 70btc on bid on 7D within 3$
[2016-10-24 13:14:58] sleger : like trump would say : "wrong"
[2016-10-24 13:15:01] mjones : if i never added to my long before bed i would have been okay. oh well. guess i cant trade XBJ any more. and XBT funding is insane
[2016-10-24 13:15:11] mjones : alts are not moving
[2016-10-24 13:16:03] messiaen8844 : XBT is great for shorting only, XBJ was apparently good for long, but not with those bullshit moves
[2016-10-24 13:16:30] messiaen8844 : cmon bitmex, LISTEN TO WHAT YOUR TROLLBOX HAS BEEN SAYING FOR MONTHS
[2016-10-24 13:16:37] messiaen8844 : BRING XBTUSD FUTURES BACK, NOT THIS JPY CRAP
[2016-10-24 13:16:38] mjones : cant believe it just barely went low enough to margin call me
[2016-10-24 13:16:50] sleger : mjones: coincidence ?
[2016-10-24 13:17:11] Boontjie : the blowfund needs money :)
[2016-10-24 13:17:13] mjones : should have added some BTC to lower my liquidation price
[2016-10-24 13:17:35] mjones : i gotta shower and get ready for work since i'm not going to retire 100x longing anything here
[2016-10-24 13:19:32] sleger : if there is a bull run i feel like there are going to be serious issues with the XBT swap on limited funding
[2016-10-24 13:19:47] messiaen8844 : time to look at the other 50x alternatives out there
[2016-10-24 13:21:09] messiaen8844 : XBT is a great contract for shorting the overextended bull momentum, dangerous to long without a fixed funding rate
[2016-10-24 13:21:22] sleger : BitMEX_Arthur: if there is a large premium building up on xbt, now that funding is capped so low, how are you going to maintain the price in check with the index ?
[2016-10-24 13:21:23] Boontjie : messiaen8844: let us know what you find
[2016-10-24 13:21:49] messiaen8844 : there is one competitor boontjie, but last time I checked liquidity was crap too
[2016-10-24 13:22:48] martinium : jesus why is the funding rate so insane??
[2016-10-24 13:23:38] martinium : no incentive to use leverage unless one is 100% sure of move coming due to funding eating away every 8 hours
[2016-10-24 13:23:49] martinium : funding fees*
[2016-10-24 13:24:53] sleger : messiaen8844: f in 7th letter of the name ?
[2016-10-24 13:25:08] messiaen8844 : yes
[2016-10-24 13:25:30] martinium : the index xbtusd is using only has two exchanges OKCoin and Bitstamp
[2016-10-24 13:25:37] martinium : they need to add coinbase in there
[2016-10-24 13:26:12] messiaen8844 : I think stamp is fine, maybe btc-e also
[2016-10-24 13:26:22] messiaen8844 : coinbase has issues with fats fingers and low liquidity
[2016-10-24 13:26:27] martinium : they need more exchanges otherwise the index isn't really an index
[2016-10-24 13:26:39] martinium : coinbase has more liquidity nowadays
[2016-10-24 13:26:43] martinium : more than bitstamp
[2016-10-24 13:26:53] martinium : at least for BTCUSD
[2016-10-24 13:28:15] messiaen8844 : http://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/volume/24-hour/
[2016-10-24 13:43:16] rapidtrades : messiaen8844: what happened on futures? ADLed?
[2016-10-24 13:43:30] messiaen8844 : BitMEXed
[2016-10-24 13:45:34] rapidtrades : i hate those yen futures
[2016-10-24 13:46:59] BTCDJS : rapidtrades: hey buddy can you do me a favour please?
[2016-10-24 13:52:56] rapidtrades : BTCDJS: .....I'm skeptical but listening
[2016-10-24 13:54:13] BTCDJS : rapidtrades: Look at the STARTcoin chart for me and give me your opinion
[2016-10-24 13:54:40] rapidtrades : BTCDJS: what exchange
[2016-10-24 13:54:49] BTCDJS : rapidtrades: Bittrex
[2016-10-24 13:55:05] BTCDJS : Start/BTC @rapidtrades
[2016-10-24 14:00:25] rapidtrades : doesn't look bad, daily up, weekly mixed, monthly down
[2016-10-24 14:00:41] rapidtrades : if this was a chart of bitcoin i would be long
[2016-10-24 14:01:06] rapidtrades : but i dunno how this shit moves :)
[2016-10-24 14:01:15] BTCDJS : rapidtrades: thanks. been long since 0.000018
[2016-10-24 14:01:27] BTCDJS : but i closed at 31
[2016-10-24 14:02:11] rapidtrades : yeah i remember that
[2016-10-24 14:02:14] BTCDJS : MA and EMA set at 30 and 13 respectively says down before up
[2016-10-24 14:02:34] rapidtrades : u got lucky it bounced :)
[2016-10-24 14:03:04] rapidtrades : how long did u hold it 1,2 years?
[2016-10-24 14:03:33] BTCDJS : tested that level a couple times. but I'm out. Just wanted your opinion before I buy back in
[2016-10-24 14:03:46] BTCDJS : no I got out and bought at 18 recently
[2016-10-24 14:04:47] BTCDJS : got a cloud set up as well and it bounced in the cloud
[2016-10-24 14:04:58] rapidtrades : ah the cloud
[2016-10-24 14:05:20] rapidtrades : how about the moon? did it align with the stars?
[2016-10-24 14:05:21] BTCDJS : waiting for MA and EMA to cross again bull before I buy back
[2016-10-24 14:05:33] BTCDJS : rapidtrades: funny cunt
[2016-10-24 14:05:44] BTCDJS : C*nt
[2016-10-24 14:05:54] BTCDJS : figure of speech
[2016-10-24 14:06:13] rapidtrades : :)
[2016-10-24 14:28:45] mjones : bitmex should give me some of that insurance fund for not factoring fat finger trades into their xbj futures
[2016-10-24 14:29:14] mjones : i have a bunch of alarms set so i could close in profit if BTC started tanking. i should have at least .7 BTC instead of none
[2016-10-24 14:29:33] mjones : app checks the price every 5 seconds
[2016-10-24 14:30:20] RocketScience : http://prntscr.com/cybl8v
[2016-10-24 14:30:24] habibi : nope, u should have 0, as u didnt realized any profit and provide enough collateral for extraordinary moves
[2016-10-24 14:30:32] RocketScience : drop to 67000 happened again
[2016-10-24 14:31:01] RocketScience : Quoine orderbook is flatland for now, don't trade long
[2016-10-24 14:34:25] RocketScience : first drop was to 67000 but it cant be seen anymore...terrible
[2016-10-24 14:41:17] Samirum : whats wrong with bitmex
[2016-10-24 14:43:40] Samirum : closed long position that i open 5hrs ago @648.4 and now closed it @648.7 and imagine i went with -0.0631 relialised
[2016-10-24 14:45:06] RocketScience : fees
[2016-10-24 14:45:25] RocketScience : 0.075% x 100x leverage=7,5% ;)
[2016-10-24 14:45:49] sleger : RocketScience: wrong
[2016-10-24 14:48:58] martinium : RocketScience: the fee is actually 0.0075% of 1%
[2016-10-24 14:49:29] martinium : so if you have a 100 btc position the cost would be 0.75 BTC
[2016-10-24 14:49:52] martinium : 7.5% would be ridiculous
[2016-10-24 14:50:10] sleger : martinium: wrong
[2016-10-24 14:50:32] martinium : so you are saying a 100btc position would have a 7.5% fee aka 7.5 btc fee??
[2016-10-24 14:50:34] martinium : you are wrong
[2016-10-24 14:50:47] sleger : martinium: no i did not say that
[2016-10-24 14:51:05] martinium : please clarify what you mean
[2016-10-24 14:51:07] sleger : IF you are a taker and open a 100btc position you pay a fee of 0.075%*100btc=0.075btc
[2016-10-24 14:51:22] Samirum : fees/
[2016-10-24 14:51:25] sleger : please read the docs properly
[2016-10-24 14:51:28] Rado : sleger: yep
[2016-10-24 14:51:44] Rado : fee is very small here
[2016-10-24 14:51:49] martinium : so thats 0.00075% then
[2016-10-24 14:51:56] sleger : trading fee that is
[2016-10-24 14:51:58] sleger : martinium: wrong
[2016-10-24 14:52:01] Rado : actually the best of all exchanges except China
[2016-10-24 14:52:01] Samirum : how is the fee calculated
[2016-10-24 14:52:13] sleger : Samirum: https://www.bitmex.com/app/fees
[2016-10-24 14:52:22] martinium : its math dude
[2016-10-24 14:52:24] Rado : martinium: it's always the same %
[2016-10-24 14:52:34] martinium : 100 * 0.00075 = 0.075 btc
[2016-10-24 14:52:44] Rado : why do you move the decimal place
[2016-10-24 14:52:58] martinium : there is no moving
[2016-10-24 14:53:12] martinium : the fees they quote are quoted as % of 1%
[2016-10-24 14:53:37] martinium : so 0.075% would be 0.00075%
[2016-10-24 14:53:47] martinium : otherwise 0.075 = 7.5% in math speak
[2016-10-24 14:53:55] martinium : which is not how interest is calculated
[2016-10-24 14:53:56] Samirum : i dunno with only 0.45btc open long few hours ago@648.4 closed it now @648.5 and end up losing 0.063 why
[2016-10-24 14:54:10] martinium : they are charging 7.5 basis points if you are a taker
[2016-10-24 14:54:10] sleger : Samirum: read the fees page
[2016-10-24 14:54:22] martinium : do you know how bp works in Finance?
[2016-10-24 14:54:28] Rado : martinium: you seem to not understand %
[2016-10-24 14:54:41] martinium : no I understand it quite well I do it for a living
[2016-10-24 14:54:54] martinium : I need to get clarification from them how they are quoted
[2016-10-24 14:54:57] sleger : cleaning traders toilets doesnt count
[2016-10-24 14:55:04] Rado : 0.075 is already a % for the fee
[2016-10-24 14:55:14] martinium : yes
[2016-10-24 14:55:21] martinium : but if you open 100 BTC position
[2016-10-24 14:55:21] Rado : Fees are in % always
[2016-10-24 14:55:32] martinium : and the fee is 0.075 after the fee calc
[2016-10-24 14:55:42] Rado : Still the same % regardless of the size
[2016-10-24 14:55:47] martinium : that means the fee percentage in terms of 100% is 0.00075%
[2016-10-24 14:56:00] martinium : in terms of 1% the fee is the stated 0.075%
[2016-10-24 14:56:19] sleger : guy doesnt know what "%" means
[2016-10-24 14:56:21] martinium : 200 btc position would pay 0.15btc
[2016-10-24 14:56:30] martinium : as a fee
[2016-10-24 14:56:35] sleger : look if you clean 100 percent of a toilet then its completely clean, got it ?
[2016-10-24 14:56:48] martinium : bad analogy
[2016-10-24 14:56:56] Samirum : martinium: then why do i pay 0.06 with 0.45 btc?
[2016-10-24 14:57:05] sleger : Samirum: read the fees page
[2016-10-24 14:57:24] martinium : that is 13.33%
[2016-10-24 14:57:28] martinium : if you paid that muhc
[2016-10-24 14:57:35] martinium : prob have funding fee there
[2016-10-24 14:57:36] Rado : Samirum: look at your order size
[2016-10-24 14:57:41] Samirum : sleger: i've read
[2016-10-24 14:57:45] sleger : there you go
[2016-10-24 14:57:54] sleger : you read the part about funding fee then
[2016-10-24 14:58:04] sleger : did you calculate this one ?
[2016-10-24 14:58:12] BitMEX_Greg : Samirum: Hi, the fees on BitMEX depend if you provide or take liquidity. We offer rebates of 0.025% if you provide liquidity, and the fee for taking is 0.075%. You can see it here: https://www.bitmex.com/app/fees
[2016-10-24 14:58:14] Samirum : sleger: every 8hrs right?
[2016-10-24 14:58:24] sleger : yes
[2016-10-24 14:58:46] sleger : but its not the same fee as trading fee
[2016-10-24 14:59:02] Samirum : sleger: how do i avoid paying such fees
[2016-10-24 14:59:11] sleger : you dont trade
[2016-10-24 14:59:17] Samirum : sleger: why?
[2016-10-24 14:59:24] sleger : because if you dont trade there is no fee
[2016-10-24 14:59:32] Samirum : we dont pay fee in china
[2016-10-24 14:59:32] BitMEX_Greg : Samirum: There was a funding period 3 hours ago, you can check the funding history here: https://www.bitmex.com/app/fundingHistory
[2016-10-24 14:59:34] Rado : Samirum: trade instruments without funding fee
[2016-10-24 14:59:42] sleger : Samirum: then stay in china
[2016-10-24 15:00:14] BitMEX_Sam : Chinese exchanges usually don't charge spot fees but they do charge fees on derivs
[2016-10-24 15:00:17] BitMEX_Greg : Samirum: Take a look at your Trade History: https://www.bitmex.com/app/tradeHistory
[2016-10-24 15:00:18] martinium : BitMEX_Greg: Are those fees quoted as a % of 1% or as a % of 100%?
[2016-10-24 15:00:27] sleger : lolol
[2016-10-24 15:00:32] BitMEX_Greg : The % is always out of 100%
[2016-10-24 15:00:51] BitMEX_Greg : Sometimes people quote it as 7.5bps. But 1 basis point (bp) is 0.01%
[2016-10-24 15:00:55] martinium : so if someone opens a 100 btc position their fee would be 7.5btc?
[2016-10-24 15:01:01] BitMEX_Greg : No
[2016-10-24 15:01:01] sleger : no
[2016-10-24 15:01:10] BitMEX_Greg : The Taker fee is 0.075%
[2016-10-24 15:01:12] martinium : 1 bp is 0.0001%
[2016-10-24 15:01:17] martinium : out of 100
[2016-10-24 15:01:20] sleger : BitMEX_Greg: he doesnt understand percentages
[2016-10-24 15:01:21] BitMEX_Greg : No
[2016-10-24 15:01:31] BitMEX_Greg : martinium: 1 basis point is 0.01%
[2016-10-24 15:01:35] martinium : so the fees are in fact quoted in terms of 1%
[2016-10-24 15:01:38] BitMEX_Greg : No
[2016-10-24 15:01:53] BitMEX_Greg : The Maker / Taker fee is 0.025% and 0.075%
[2016-10-24 15:02:15] BitMEX_Greg : So on a 100btc position, if you are a taker the bitcoin fee is 100 * 0.075% = 0.075btc
[2016-10-24 15:02:24] martinium : 100 basis points is 1%
[2016-10-24 15:02:27] sleger : what i said 10 min ago
[2016-10-24 15:02:29] Samirum : BitMEX_Greg: maker?
[2016-10-24 15:02:34] martinium : 1000 basis points are 10%
[2016-10-24 15:02:52] martinium : and I quote from investopedia "Basis point (BPS) refer to a common unit of measure for interest rates and other percentages in finance. One basis point is equal to 1/100th of 1%, or 0.01% (0.0001), and is used to denote the percentage change in a financial instrument."
[2016-10-24 15:02:55] sleger : you should really stick with cleaning toilets
[2016-10-24 15:03:24] martinium : sleger: thats what you should stick to
[2016-10-24 15:03:36] BitMEX_Greg : Samirum: Maker means you provide liquidity (i.e. you make orders)
[2016-10-24 15:03:52] martinium : BitMEX_Greg: did you read the definition I posted above?
[2016-10-24 15:04:33] martinium : I've worked in Finance over 10 years and fees especially trading fees are quoted as I have stated
[2016-10-24 15:04:50] martinium : we are saying the same thing
[2016-10-24 15:04:57] martinium : just in different notation
[2016-10-24 15:05:18] sleger : "martinium: so if someone opens a 100 btc position their fee would be 7.5btc?"
[2016-10-24 15:05:21] sleger : yeah sure ...
[2016-10-24 15:05:33] BitMEX_Greg : martinium: 1 basis point is 0.01%
[2016-10-24 15:05:37] sleger : you're not saying the same thing, you are completely wrong
[2016-10-24 15:05:52] martinium : yeah I see what the issue is
[2016-10-24 15:05:54] BitMEX_Greg : if you want to think about it in terms of out of 100 then yes, 1 bp is 1/100 of 1%
[2016-10-24 15:06:04] martinium : I am thinking in terms of decimal
[2016-10-24 15:06:09] martinium : and we are speaking percent
[2016-10-24 15:06:10] martinium : lol
[2016-10-24 15:06:38] martinium : 0.075% is the same as 0.00075 in decimal notation
[2016-10-24 15:07:12] sleger : and how did you arrive to "martinium: so if someone opens a 100 btc position their fee would be 7.5btc?"
[2016-10-24 15:07:28] martinium : that was a question to a guy above
[2016-10-24 15:07:33] martinium : trying to show they were wrong
[2016-10-24 15:07:57] martinium : the fee would only be 0.075 BTC
[2016-10-24 15:08:15] martinium : because obviously 7.5 btc would be ridiculous
[2016-10-24 15:08:18] Rado : so we are clear
[2016-10-24 15:08:28] Rado : can we stop with the fees discussion
[2016-10-24 15:08:43] Rado : guy was wondering why he paid as much and the answer is funding
[2016-10-24 15:08:49] Rado : nothing to do with trading fee
[2016-10-24 15:09:07] martinium : trading convo was happening before his question
[2016-10-24 15:09:11] martinium : trading fee*
[2016-10-24 15:09:19] martinium : but whatever it is settled
[2016-10-24 15:09:27] martinium : fees as quoted in basis points
[2016-10-24 15:09:29] martinium : are*
[2016-10-24 15:10:07] martinium : aka of 1%
[2016-10-24 15:11:01] martinium : a whole number on left side of decimal point on fees page is the percentage while right side of decimal are fractional percentages
[2016-10-24 15:11:07] martinium : there are many who don't understand this
[2016-10-24 15:11:17] martinium : so I wanted to help them clarify
[2016-10-24 15:11:33] Samirum : martinium: i still dont understand
[2016-10-24 15:12:07] martinium : Samirum: the fees in the page are quoted in % so that means that 0.075% is the same as the decimal 0.00075
[2016-10-24 15:12:36] martinium : so if you want to calculate a taker fee on a 10 btc position you do 10 * 0.00075
[2016-10-24 15:12:59] martinium : giving a fee of 0.0075 btc excluding funding
[2016-10-24 15:13:00] Samirum : martinium: ok
[2016-10-24 15:14:18] Rado : Samirum: I think what you are missing is that for 10,000 contracts you pay only 0.33 XBT, but your size of teh position is 15.45 XBT
[2016-10-24 15:14:29] Rado : you pay fee on the 15.45 XBT
[2016-10-24 15:14:34] Rado : not on the 0.33 XBT
[2016-10-24 15:14:57] Samirum : Rado: ok
[2016-10-24 15:14:57] Samirum : Rado: thanks
[2016-10-24 15:15:08] Rado : np
[2016-10-24 15:21:51] manchstr_untd1 : what the fuck is going on at bitstamp
[2016-10-24 15:31:38] Rado : manchstr_untd1: looks like there was a seller
[2016-10-24 15:31:47] Rado : but the price recovered after
[2016-10-24 15:37:25] mjones : Wtf 47783 jpy quoine
[2016-10-24 15:38:09] mjones : And tell me how that didnt margin call anyone...
[2016-10-24 15:38:19] moon : i got margin call on it
[2016-10-24 15:38:21] habibi : :D
[2016-10-24 15:39:29] habibi : that volume
[2016-10-24 15:39:32] habibi : that liquidity
[2016-10-24 15:39:52] mjones : www.i.imgur.com/4ZgT2Fe.png
[2016-10-24 15:40:06] Rado : mjones: 47783?
[2016-10-24 15:40:20] Rado : did you mean 67783
[2016-10-24 15:40:22] mjones : Look at my screen shot
[2016-10-24 15:40:54] moon : XBJ contracts are shitI don't get why my position on XBJ was liquidated wtf
[2016-10-24 15:41:29] Rado : mjones: liquidity is very bad there I guess
[2016-10-24 15:41:31] mjones : And tell me how everyone long didnt get rekt just now but i did earlier
[2016-10-24 15:41:39] habibi : it needs some additional watchdog for leading exchanges, if they are not dumping hard price should stay within some range
[2016-10-24 15:42:31] Rado : mjones: which contract?
[2016-10-24 15:43:03] mjones : Xbj futures that use that exchange
[2016-10-24 15:43:07] Rado : did the Mark price change the same as that dip
[2016-10-24 15:43:28] Rado : mjones: there are 3 different contracts
[2016-10-24 15:43:35] Rado : 24H, 7D and 3 months
[2016-10-24 15:44:02] mjones : They all use http://i.imgur.com/4ZgT2Fe.png
[2016-10-24 15:44:03] Rado : I have XBJZ16, but my liquidation price is way far
[2016-10-24 15:44:05] Kalman : habibi: nonsense
[2016-10-24 15:44:21] mjones : That exchange for the price
[2016-10-24 15:44:29] sleger : the real question is why are these contracts in JPY in the first place
[2016-10-24 15:45:13] mjones : I'm just still pissed i lost over a bitcoin during one of those flash crashes and then it happens again and no one gets margin called?
[2016-10-24 15:45:14] Kalman : and why the guys play with it without accepting conditions
[2016-10-24 15:45:31] moon : I was short on XBJ but still got liquidated, how come http://i.imgur.com/hLZ9H3Q.png
[2016-10-24 15:46:25] Kalman : guess not enough margin
[2016-10-24 15:46:50] eth2mars : mjones: i lost about five bitcoins
[2016-10-24 15:47:01] moon : not enough margin for what, I was short, and price didn't went to 76718
[2016-10-24 15:47:47] habibi : Kalman: i do accept, i didnt lost anything but still u think index price is bad sollution for swap?
[2016-10-24 15:48:26] Rado : moon: I think BitMEX needs to do a better job at explaining the trigger price for liquidation
[2016-10-24 15:49:08] BitMEX_Greg : Rado: A user's position gets liquidated at the liquidation price
[2016-10-24 15:49:10] Kalman : habibi: everyone should ask them self that question before putting money on the table
[2016-10-24 15:49:18] BitMEX_Greg : moon: Are you sure you were liquidated and not autodeleveraged?
[2016-10-24 15:49:31] habibi : Kalman: could u answer my question first :)?
[2016-10-24 15:50:09] Kalman : habibi: that are the contract conditions
[2016-10-24 15:50:29] eth2mars : mjones: thanks for sharing the screenshot. it was crazy
[2016-10-24 15:50:34] moon : @BitMEX_Greg I got liquidation notice, but you can check and see what happened
[2016-10-24 15:50:36] Rado : BitMEX_Greg: if he was deleveraged his price will not be 76718
[2016-10-24 15:50:38] Rado : correct?
[2016-10-24 15:50:51] Rado : that seems like bankruptcy price
[2016-10-24 15:51:46] Rado : good my stop was outside of that dip
[2016-10-24 15:52:36] BitMEX_Greg : moon: I am checking now. The liquidation email should have provided some clarity however
[2016-10-24 15:53:07] Rado : I agree with sleger, I don't see why use illiquid exchange like Quoine and JPY when there are so many better options
[2016-10-24 15:53:25] Rado : there are 5-6 exchanges now that have decent volume in USD
[2016-10-24 15:54:18] BitMEX_Sam : Rado: XBTJPY is based on Quoine because it is also traded on Quoine
[2016-10-24 15:54:24] Rado : Bitstamp 4.6 Bitfinex 6.1 GDAX 3.2 itBit 2.0 OKCoin 2.8 BTC-eUSD 3.9
[2016-10-24 15:54:49] Rado : BitMEX_Sam: I understand, but you can see that is not good for traders at all
[2016-10-24 15:54:58] moon : You were short 400 contracts of XBJ24H. With 0.5% Maintenance Margin, your liquidation price was 76817 and your bankruptcy price was 77262 (i.e. 0% margin).
