This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2016-07-20 14:42:21] dirk__ : hopefully
[2016-07-20 14:47:35] BitMEX_Sam : Yep, should be fine.
[2016-07-20 14:47:44] dirk__ : Bitmex_Sam: does it take time to take effect?
[2016-07-20 14:47:48] BitMEX_Sam : No
[2016-07-20 14:47:57] dirk__ : still having same issues
[2016-07-20 14:48:11] dirk__ : with risk limit way beyond position+open orders
[2016-07-20 14:48:23] BitMEX_Sam : Are you sure it's the same error?
[2016-07-20 14:48:50] dirk__ : yes
[2016-07-20 14:48:53] BitMEX_Sam : And that you set your risk limit on the correct contract?
[2016-07-20 14:48:53] dirk__ : exactly the same
[2016-07-20 14:49:39] dirk__ : :O
[2016-07-20 14:51:13] dirk__ : ok
[2016-07-20 14:51:16] dirk__ : right contract now
[2016-07-20 14:51:20] dirk__ : soryr about that :)
[2016-07-20 14:51:32] BitMEX_Sam : :) No worries, it's a new feature and I understand there might be some confusion
[2016-07-20 14:52:13] dirk__ : :) at least that explains all the bans :D
[2016-07-20 15:05:13] macios15 : btc down eth up lol
[2016-07-20 15:05:35] aethlios : great changes with risk limits, no large dpe from now on.
[2016-07-20 15:07:49] BitMEX_Sam : We are also considering a deleveraging option that will realign incentives
[2016-07-20 15:08:13] BitMEX_Sam : Part of the issue with DPE is that there is not significant disincentive to take risky positions, and doing so may affect all users
[2016-07-20 15:08:34] BitMEX_Sam : A smart deleveraging scheme could deleverage the riskiest users first and leave users with more stable positions alone
[2016-07-20 15:15:01] rapidtrades : nice
[2016-07-20 15:16:42] macios15 : 4k today
[2016-07-20 15:17:19] rapidtrades : shut it
[2016-07-20 15:18:31] rapidtrades : it's just a kneejerk due to eth rallying, these usually don't last

[2016-07-20 17:07:16] ayy_lmao : 0.3% eth funding lol
[2016-07-20 17:07:28] ayy_lmao : smh
[2016-07-20 17:32:42] justinlooking : hmmm "Fills" pane is misbehaving again
[2016-07-20 17:33:51] justinlooking : i think the intended behaviour is to load the fills for the currently selected contract, and you can get correct data by doing full refresh, but not by switching between contracts
[2016-07-20 17:36:20] justinlooking : eg if on `/app/trade/XBTUSD` and refresh, then Fills gets populated with XBTUSD, but if click to switch to ETHBTC, the Fills data doesn't reload, it still only shows XBTUSD fills, a browser reload does pull ETHBTC fills
[2016-07-20 17:38:07] justinlooking : testnet shows fills across all contracts
[2016-07-20 18:01:17] BitMEX_Greg : justinlooking: I'll try replicate this
[2016-07-20 18:12:07] REKT : Liquidated short on `ETHXBT`: Buy 1750 @ 0.01926

[2016-07-20 18:34:32] ayy_lmao : lmao
[2016-07-20 18:34:33] justinlooking : any luck greg? fills from the current login session are showing as expected, but anything prior to current login, has fills segregated by the initially loaded contract
[2016-07-20 18:34:46] ayy_lmao : he literally longed the top
[2016-07-20 18:35:06] ayy_lmao : dude got margin called on spread
[2016-07-20 18:35:41] justinlooking : maybe he's using market stops to enter position?
[2016-07-20 18:36:42] fineregex : where will ethereum go?
[2016-07-20 18:37:00] Tetsuo : moon and beyond?
[2016-07-20 18:37:19] fineregex : ethereum will go for a walk in the park
[2016-07-20 18:39:23] Tetsuo : short BTC/USD , long ETH/BTC --->multiple yachts coke and whores for the rest of your life
[2016-07-20 18:40:19] fineregex : https://bfxdata.com/swaphistory/eth shorts are at an all time high. if shorts get squeezed.....
[2016-07-20 18:40:51] fineregex : why cant we see amount of longs? why are shorts so confident?
[2016-07-20 18:41:46] BitMEX_Sam : justinlooking: The intention is that Fills shows fills for all contracts, not just for the selected contract. There is a bug in the initial data fetcher that is erroneously filtering by contract
[2016-07-20 18:41:51] BitMEX_Sam : I'm deploying a fix for that shortly
[2016-07-20 18:42:32] justinlooking : coolio ty
[2016-07-20 18:43:14] fineregex : Tetsuo: the 1234 order is mine just because im scared of funding rate, better take it while you can

[2016-07-20 18:49:44] fineregex : 0.15% maker fee :(
[2016-07-20 18:50:09] fineregex : vs. 0.29% funding rate
[2016-07-20 18:50:40] fineregex : yes, considering i need to close poloniex later too, which would be free at bitmex
[2016-07-20 18:50:46] fineregex : .....
[2016-07-20 18:51:04] ayy_lmao : wut

[2016-07-20 19:09:13] fineregex : many people may consider both bitcoin and ethereum neither cheap nor too expensive now? but hope for burtsting bubbles?
[2016-07-20 19:10:12] fineregex : why are the sentiment indicators/openorders so long on bitcoin still ?http://www.investing.com/currencies/btc-usd-technical
[2016-07-20 19:14:38] d_ : BitMEX_Sam: Quick question: Why does my liquidation price keep fluctuating? It's not much, but it's concerning because I was under the impression that liquidation price should not be changing at all after an order is filled. Note: I'm using cross margin, and only trading the ETHXBT pair.
[2016-07-20 19:16:29] BitMEX_Sam : Just a moment d_, let me check your account.
[2016-07-20 19:16:34] d_ : Thanks
[2016-07-20 19:17:12] BitMEX_Sam : Are you adding and removing limit orders? Open but unfilled orders still consume margin. They would be canceled in the event of a liquidation, however.
[2016-07-20 19:17:41] d_ : No, this occurs when I have no open limit orders as well.
[2016-07-20 19:18:34] d_ : If you look at it now, it's doing it. From what I've seen, it's only +- 0.0010 fluctuations. Like I said, not much. But I from what I've read and asked about previously, the liquidation price shouldn't be changing.
[2016-07-20 19:20:14] justinlooking : https://onf.lt/8ffd9a2d35
[2016-07-20 19:20:32] BitMEX_Sam : This could be an interaction with withheld profit; I'll ask our engine developer as soon as he's online d_
[2016-07-20 19:20:45] d_ : Cool cool, thanks @BitMEX_Sam
[2016-07-20 19:21:54] yerb : BitMEX_Sam: my numoad licale uses comma for decimal place, could you st the price field to accept either comma as decimal character aswell?
[2016-07-20 19:22:02] yerb : *locale
[2016-07-20 19:22:16] BitMEX_Sam : yerb: It should already (but clearly does not), let me run some tests

[2016-07-20 19:40:37] REKT : Liquidated short on `ETHXBT`: Buy 5 @ 0.01936
[2016-07-20 20:15:04] jung1 : Rado: your prediction was right
[2016-07-20 20:15:23] BitMEX_Sam : yerb: So, locale on the web, as you probably know, is broken in all sorts of various ways - but I have a preliminary version on Testnet that will respect commas in numbers in Firefox.
[2016-07-20 20:15:35] BitMEX_Sam : It appears proper locale recognition may be broken in Chrome.
[2016-07-20 20:16:14] yerb : i iuse firefox
[2016-07-20 20:16:24] yerb : BitMEX_Sam: so i can test it on testnet?
[2016-07-20 20:16:40] BitMEX_Sam : yerb: Yes, will be live in about 5min
[2016-07-20 20:16:46] yerb : ok
[2016-07-20 20:21:47] yerb : i was thinking that could be done by some javascript code changing comma to period when clicking the buy/sell button
[2016-07-20 20:25:24] yerb : BitMEX_Sam: so i can test it on testnet?
[2016-07-20 20:25:45] BitMEX_Sam : yerb: Should be up now yes
[2016-07-20 20:27:52] yerb : ok
[2016-07-20 20:29:59] yerb : hmm, when i input comma (,) it disables buy/sell buttons
[2016-07-20 20:30:22] yerb : 'testing'
[2016-07-20 20:30:32] yerb : `test code`

[2016-07-20 20:31:53] BitMEX_Sam : I was testing with norwegian set in the Firefox settings
[2016-07-20 20:31:58] yerb : lemme check

[2016-07-20 20:41:20] yerb : BitMEX_Sam: i have that set to English [en-us]
[2016-07-20 20:41:37] BitMEX_Sam : yerb: That's probably why, the app is getting English then and doesn't know to attempt to translate
[2016-07-20 20:41:43] BitMEX_Sam : Try adding Slovenian
[2016-07-20 20:41:49] yerb : ok

[2016-07-20 20:51:25] jesperf : can nintendo please hire some of them good coders?

[2016-07-20 20:52:10] jesperf : i can't abuse mah pokemans
[2016-07-20 20:52:50] jesperf : BitMEX_Sam: that's the beauty of being produced by a big name corp. they always take the blame
[2016-07-20 20:53:23] BitMEX_Sam : Well, licensed, afaik Nintendo had nearly nothing to do with the development
[2016-07-20 20:53:48] BitMEX_Sam : PGo is essentially Ingress with most of its features ripped out, with the exception of battery life so bad it must be Bitcoin mining
[2016-07-20 20:54:45] jesperf : hehe, a long time ago some websites were secretly cpu mining in the background
[2016-07-20 20:54:54] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah that was the output of a few hackathons
[2016-07-20 20:55:01] BitMEX_Sam : It was almost profitable back then
[2016-07-20 20:55:34] BitMEX_Sam : Way back then I wanted to do a bitcointalk bot that would detect iCOs, generate a wallet from a seed & mine every one for a week then shut down
[2016-07-20 20:55:42] BitMEX_Sam : Would have been decent $. Never wrangled up the time to do it
[2016-07-20 20:56:15] jesperf : :D
[2016-07-20 20:56:31] jesperf : seems like an ambitious project though
[2016-07-20 20:56:59] BitMEX_Sam : Dangerous as well, would need to be sandboxed quite well on a VPS provider like AWS
[2016-07-20 20:57:18] BitMEX_Sam : Otherwise you could get rekt like Cryptsy
[2016-07-20 20:57:43] jesperf : they got rekt hard
[2016-07-20 20:57:53] jesperf : i had all my worthless coins there
[2016-07-20 20:57:53] BitMEX_Sam : https://github.com/alerj78/lucky7coin/issues/1 is interesting
[2016-07-20 20:58:22] BitMEX_Sam : I don't blame them too much for having trouble, although they should have been more focused on security. Even managing a reliable connection to the Bitcoin blockchain & those wallets is difficult enough
[2016-07-20 21:02:22] jesperf : wow.. virtualization on a large scale wasn't even hard when cryptsy got looted
[2016-07-20 21:04:12] jesperf : I've been trying to keep up with Docker at my last day job. they're doing great work and there are so many good third party tools
[2016-07-20 21:12:04] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah. I wouldn't trust Docker for this kind of thing in the usual case, unless it was e.g. on SmartOS
[2016-07-20 21:12:25] BitMEX_Sam : But they definitely should have sandboxed each wallet. They ran so many of them, though, I'm sure they just took shortcuts
[2016-07-20 21:25:00] jung1 : damn I forgot my steemit password
[2016-07-20 21:27:01] jesperf : one night I forgot my gmail password

[2016-07-21 00:10:58] jung1 : that makes sense
[2016-07-21 00:17:49] jesperf : it's come to the point where I am considering doing the opposite of what I was planning to do
[2016-07-21 00:18:28] jesperf : and since that doesn't work I mostly stay out

[2016-07-21 10:19:43] elmorte : My uneducated guess is that positions would be much larger due to lower volatility, but I've never traded forex derivatives

Until the price reaches the stop, the trailing stop should be inactive regardless of price moves. I tried to set up trailing stop limit but it activated immediately as does trailing stop market.

[2016-07-21 21:53:59] bernx : and liq
[2016-07-21 21:54:25] ayy_lmao : thats the price you pay for leverage
[2016-07-21 21:54:52] claw : such a double edged sword
[2016-07-21 21:55:09] ayy_lmao : figuratively
[2016-07-21 21:55:48] ayy_lmao : where are you getting 66x?
[2016-07-21 22:02:09] odieoh : do the math on how much the total dollar value of your position changed from open to close and I think you'll see why. Small numbers x very large numbers = pretty large numbers.
[2016-07-21 22:03:01] BitMEX_Sam : Your entry price is averaged out as well, so it may be unintuitive compared to your liquidation price depending on rebalances + how you've assigned margin
[2016-07-21 22:03:26] BitMEX_Sam : As well as how your position has changed in size through the orders you've placed
[2016-07-21 22:04:05] BitMEX_Sam : On a new 33x position with an entry of 0.01799, the liq price would be 0.01915, for example.
[2016-07-21 22:04:44] ayy_lmao : ah yes i forgot
[2016-07-21 22:05:01] ayy_lmao : leverage increases as soon as you start losing
[2016-07-21 22:05:04] ayy_lmao : until rekt
[2016-07-21 22:05:53] bernx : BitMEX_Sam: yes, you right. but, there is entry 1888 and liq 1912
[2016-07-21 22:06:13] bernx : BitMEX_Sam: there is not even close like 179 and 191
[2016-07-21 22:06:44] BitMEX_Sam : move the leverage slider to 25x and back to 33.3x if you want to reassign margin

[2016-07-21 23:34:46] jung1 : https://spacebtc.com/ nice
[2016-07-21 23:38:04] Rado : jung1: my bot sold ETH long
[2016-07-21 23:38:55] Rado : I now have a manual short from 1911
[2016-07-21 23:40:03] Rado : I also got back my ETH from DAO tokens and sold for BTC
[2016-07-21 23:40:30] Rado : only 5000 DAO around 1btc
[2016-07-21 23:42:23] jung1 : yeah dao is dead
[2016-07-21 23:42:31] jung1 : people just keep the price until they will be able to convert them
[2016-07-21 23:43:49] Rado : If most of them do what I did we will see a lot lower prices for ETH
[2016-07-21 23:45:04] Rado : The initial advance was because DAO issue was resolved, but now I think we will get a bit of a downtrend
[2016-07-21 23:45:44] ayy_lmao : rado, ur the guy with the 300% return eth bot
[2016-07-21 23:45:56] ayy_lmao : ?
[2016-07-21 23:46:42] bmxalgobtc : but dumb enough to invest in DAO ?
[2016-07-21 23:46:56] ayy_lmao : shots fired
[2016-07-21 23:47:38] bmxalgobtc : whoever invested in dao certainly deserved what almost happened to them
[2016-07-21 23:47:47] ayy_lmao : to be fair, he could have bought DAO after the hack in hopes for hard fork
[2016-07-21 23:59:11] jung1 : too bad that there is no place to short dao
[2016-07-22 00:03:38] odieoh : now or before? Now would just be the same as shorting Eth wouldn't it?
[2016-07-22 00:04:56] jung1 : no
[2016-07-22 00:05:12] jung1 : will be same until all dao will be unlocked
[2016-07-22 00:07:12] ayy_lmao : y not? you will always be able to get 1 eth per 100 dao tho
[2016-07-22 00:12:00] jung1 : maybe you are right
[2016-07-22 00:12:10] jung1 : Rado: coinbase just added eth
[2016-07-22 00:13:19] 1QaZxSw2 : eth spot?
[2016-07-22 00:13:42] 1QaZxSw2 : how come polo adds a new instrument in 4 hrs and it takes coinbase 4 months
[2016-07-22 00:13:53] 1QaZxSw2 : must be AML/KYC
[2016-07-22 00:21:25] jung1 : yeah
[2016-07-22 00:21:38] jung1 : eth is here to stay
[2016-07-22 00:32:30] jung1 : damn that https://steemit.com is crazy

[2016-07-22 00:40:28] ayy_lmao : total scam tho
[2016-07-22 00:40:33] ayy_lmao : u can only get a portion of that
[2016-07-22 00:46:46] odieoh : how come?
[2016-07-22 00:47:44] jung1 : they premine steem dollars

[2016-07-22 00:49:46] odieoh : looks like a juicy short
[2016-07-22 00:49:49] jung1 : but its already 3rd biggest market cap
[2016-07-22 00:50:05] jung1 : and have more transactions than eth
[2016-07-22 00:50:16] jung1 : yeah long term its not good investment
[2016-07-22 00:50:23] jung1 : but idea is quite cool

[2016-07-22 01:31:00] Rado : jung1: thanks
[2016-07-22 01:31:40] Rado : Here is a wild (stupid) speculation
[2016-07-22 01:31:54] Rado : Yuan is now 6.66 and BTC is $666
[2016-07-22 01:32:18] Rado : If Yuan devalues to 8 or 9 BTC will go to $800 or $900
[2016-07-22 01:32:34] Rado : lol
[2016-07-22 01:32:40] Rado : doesn't make much sense
[2016-07-22 01:32:56] Rado : BTC will probably way higher if Yuan goes to 9
[2016-07-22 01:33:34] jung1 : yeah 666 is awesome
[2016-07-22 01:33:51] jung1 : it could be bitcoin new base price

[2016-07-22 02:29:57] fineregex : odieoh: liquid steem has inflation of 100% / year
[2016-07-22 02:31:39] fineregex : shorts interest rates will be higher than other currencies
[2016-07-22 02:32:26] fineregex : "steem power" (investment, paying back ~1%/week) has no inflation
[2016-07-22 02:33:18] fineregex : it is against speculation

[2016-07-22 04:26:04] BitMEX_Wally : https://www.bitmex.com/app/fees
[2016-07-22 04:26:57] BitMEX_Wally : If you go long 1 Bitcoin by trading immediately against the order book you pay 0.00075 Bitcoin in fees
[2016-07-22 04:27:17] Skuffone : thank you so fee plus funding
[2016-07-22 04:27:41] BitMEX_Wally : Yes, the funding rate varies, currently 0.0128% every 8 hours
[2016-07-22 04:28:03] Skuffone : it is the funding i'm finding it hard to work out - that helps thanks
[2016-07-22 04:28:15] BitMEX_Wally : So if you were long 1 Bitcoin you would paid 0.000128 Bitcoin in 7.5 hours time
[2016-07-22 04:28:30] BitMEX_Wally : If you were short you would receive 0.000128 Bitcoin
[2016-07-22 04:29:47] Skuffone : thanks
[2016-07-22 04:32:38] Skuffone : so the difference between my unrealized and realized PNL is the funding?
[2016-07-22 04:33:37] BitMEX_Wally : Trading fees and funding affect your realised PNL immediately
[2016-07-22 04:34:00] BitMEX_Wally : Unrealised PNL is moved to realised PNL every 24 hours
[2016-07-22 04:34:36] BitMEX_Wally : If you had unrealised PNL and realised PNL you get your total life-to-date PNL
[2016-07-22 04:35:11] Skuffone : add you mean
[2016-07-22 04:35:12] BitMEX_Wally : Sorry, if you ADD unrealised PNL and realised PNL together
