[2016-07-12 13:45:12] johndoe : yah, not a good feeling. although i've been pretty damn lucky really
[2016-07-12 13:45:30] johndoe : usually only get 4 or 5 tourist visas
[2016-07-12 13:45:46] elmorte : then change passport? :)
[2016-07-12 13:46:28] johndoe : marriage visas are kind of complicated - you have to get a visa first, and then you can convert it into a marriage visa. But you can't convert tourist visas into marriage visas - only immigration visas like for education or work or diplomats, etc
[2016-07-12 13:46:42] johndoe : so after i study Thai for a few years, ill convert it to a marriage visa
[2016-07-12 13:46:52] elmorte : right...one is like a pass and the other an actual visa
[2016-07-12 13:47:02] brendens20 : @johndoe thanks
[2016-07-12 13:47:46] johndoe : yah, my Laos bribe guy told me to change my passport many times already - he always talks like he is lecturing me, lol. why you not get new passport already?
[2016-07-12 13:47:59] johndoe : but i just ignored it cause i never got the red stamp - although i did get new pages awhile back
[2016-07-12 13:48:00] elmorte : it's funny how renewing the passport works though, don't you think?
[2016-07-12 13:48:14] elmorte : Like, I'm sure they have a digital record of some sort...
[2016-07-12 13:48:17] johndoe : elmorte: yah, you'd think the computer would pick it up, but not here
[2016-07-12 13:48:23] elmorte : Same here
[2016-07-12 13:48:25] johndoe : brendens20: no problem :)
[2016-07-12 13:48:46] elmorte : The only thing I could think of is that there is too much data to be available in real time...
[2016-07-12 13:49:00] johndoe : elmorte: another issue is i'm not legally married. i got married in a ceremony in the village with over 100 people, but i didn't register it
[2016-07-12 13:49:06] johndoe : cause most thai people don't register it
[2016-07-12 13:49:15] elmorte : Yeah...that would do it :/
[2016-07-12 13:49:21] elmorte : Not having a cert
[2016-07-12 13:49:27] johndoe : and... being on the safe side in the event of divorce is always safer
[2016-07-12 13:49:37] johndoe : although things are going really well with us and it's been about a year
[2016-07-12 13:49:44] elmorte : True...but you don't own any assets there though, right?
[2016-07-12 13:50:36] johndoe : nah, illegal to own a home or land - there are complex legal loopholes but the place i'm living in now is her parent's property from many years
[2016-07-12 13:51:10] elmorte : Yeah...I know a bit....you can own a part of a company that owns the property or something like that
[2016-07-12 13:52:04] johndoe : right, but they've got more strict lately and have said some of the loopholes were never intended to be legal and therefore are not legal. the main thing you can do legitimately is buy a condo, but not own the actual building
[2016-07-12 13:52:16] johndoe : but there are no condos out here in the village of course
[2016-07-12 13:52:29] elmorte : :) What made you move there in the first place?
[2016-07-12 13:52:54] johndoe : there are in the local town about 20 mins ago, but i actually like the community lifestyle here - people are very friendly and warm towards me - the only westerner here, and i'm young as well (and white)
[2016-07-12 13:52:56] Mr Blue : Pussy and power
[2016-07-12 13:53:06] johndoe : Mr Blue: haha, true story
[2016-07-12 13:53:17] Mr Blue : ?
[2016-07-12 13:53:51] johndoe : elmorte: well, first i came for an extended holiday - my first time out of the US. i had studied thailand for like a year and i knew i wanted to go here for 3 months.
[2016-07-12 13:54:01] johndoe : but then i met a girl...and that all ended, hah
[2016-07-12 13:54:30] elmorte : that's how they get ya :) Same girl?
[2016-07-12 13:55:13] johndoe : yah, same girl
[2016-07-12 13:55:54] elmorte : nice
[2016-07-12 13:55:59] johndoe : the attention was kind of intoxicating. in the US, im a totally average middle-income young white male. here i'm a rich millionaire handsome stud - or at least thats the perception.
[2016-07-12 13:57:16] johndoe : went from mediocre white chicks with issues to thin/fit thai women with a much better attitude about life
[2016-07-12 13:57:32] johndoe : or at least attitude about life regarding my presence in their life, hah
[2016-07-12 13:58:34] elmorte : yeah, it's amazing when you compare to the life back home
[2016-07-12 13:59:10] johndoe : it really is. really amped up my self-confidence honestly
[2016-07-12 13:59:51] johndoe : and its not like they just want money - although they do like money obviously.
[2016-07-12 14:00:11] johndoe : they also value white skin, hah
[2016-07-12 14:00:44] elmorte : lol...yeah, that's what you meant :p
[2016-07-12 14:00:58] johndoe : nah, they value white skin, money, and most of all, many of them think us foreigners are fun and thai men are not as fun and are often abusive or constantly cheat on them
[2016-07-12 14:01:29] elmorte : yeah, same thing here...they wanna break out of the cultural boundaries
[2016-07-12 14:02:07] elmorte : so it's an easy choice for a lot of them. Even though the cultural differences come very much into play later
[2016-07-12 14:02:16] johndoe : lol can't imagine malaysia's muslim cultural boundaries - those are even harder to break than thai's buddhism
[2016-07-12 14:02:45] elmorte : Only 55% of Malaysia is Muslim, but yeah - what you said
[2016-07-12 14:02:54] johndoe : oh, didn't realize that
[2016-07-12 14:03:29] elmorte : Surprisingly not many ppl do.
[2016-07-12 14:03:44] Roevenger : oh, after reading all of this @johndoe all I can say is becareful haha
[2016-07-12 14:03:48] johndoe : elmorte: yah, the cultural stuff does creep up more later on for sure.
[2016-07-12 14:04:05] Roevenger : It didn't end up well with my malaysian partner
[2016-07-12 14:04:20] elmorte : Roevenger: what happened buddy?
[2016-07-12 14:04:38] johndoe : Roevenger: hah, i knew what i was getting into more or less. and i stayed with her over 3 years before i got married so i made sure to knew her personality really thoroughly as well as her family
[2016-07-12 14:04:47] Roevenger : long story short she was all about money
[2016-07-12 14:05:12] elmorte : Same here...5 years
[2016-07-12 14:05:31] elmorte : Roevenger: light skin ethnicity?
[2016-07-12 14:05:47] Roevenger : no, very native
[2016-07-12 14:05:58] elmorte : ah...that sucks man
[2016-07-12 14:06:16] elmorte : at least you have your BTC
[2016-07-12 14:06:25] Roevenger : she had dated a couple europeans during her life, so probably she got used with the western world
[2016-07-12 14:06:38] johndoe : Roevenger: too many are, i'd guess about 80% of the ones that go for tourists are all about money. i got pretty lucky with my wife i guess - but from the day i met her she was so much more down to earth and honest and empathetic. Most girls here were just about partying and fun with the foreigner with the money.
[2016-07-12 14:07:08] elmorte : and nothing wrong with that :) Just don't marry those ones
[2016-07-12 14:07:22] johndoe : yah, they were fun =D good times
[2016-07-12 14:08:01] johndoe : the lying was the most important thing to me - my wife lied so very little when we met - whereas i lied plenty, especially about money and intentions
[2016-07-12 14:08:15] elmorte : haha...
[2016-07-12 14:08:44] johndoe : i actually came here with my older brother on that same first trip - he met a girl the same month i did
[2016-07-12 14:08:44] elmorte : We were good friends for a long time before we hooked up....knew each other inside out, so no lies left
[2016-07-12 14:09:10] johndoe : but he played it all wrong - he got married on their 1-year anniversary to a gold-digger
[2016-07-12 14:09:20] johndoe : she was so obviously a not-quality girl
[2016-07-12 14:09:20] elmorte : ugh....how's he now?
[2016-07-12 14:09:49] johndoe : and wasn't even hot either! seriously, she just got plastic surgery to redesign her f'ing face - i can't stand her
[2016-07-12 14:09:52] ggwp : back - shorts not looking good :/
[2016-07-12 14:10:05] johndoe : still married, but she drained him of over $250k in 3 years
[2016-07-12 14:10:16] elmorte : kids?
[2016-07-12 14:10:20] johndoe : all his savings and a hell of a lot of credit card debt.
[2016-07-12 14:10:27] johndoe : thankfully no
[2016-07-12 14:10:35] johndoe : well, she has kids from a prior marriage - 2 of them
[2016-07-12 14:10:39] elmorte : then he should gtfo...
[2016-07-12 14:10:52] elmorte : you guys in touch?
[2016-07-12 14:11:20] johndoe : honestly - it's like a doomsday scenario - he is so royally f'd - and i don't know what to do cause he has asperger's and its like he can't see the obvious truth of it all - that she is with him for money
[2016-07-12 14:11:49] elmorte : k...I was gonna ask if he realizes the situation. :(
[2016-07-12 14:12:17] elmorte : That's a tough thing to talk to someone about...
[2016-07-12 14:12:22] johndoe : elmorte: sadly, not much anymore. i just can't take it emotionally. i truly despise her and he has basically catered to her every whim since the day they met - to the exclusion of me and his family
[2016-07-12 14:13:29] elmorte : Pussy & power can do that to you....but you said he has Asperger's....:(
[2016-07-12 14:13:54] johndoe : elmorte: yah, being friends first like your situation is definitely a good way to get to know how they really are.
[2016-07-12 14:14:13] Mr Blue : johndoe: 250k and she's not even give the guy kids, you should find him a better looking one, tempt him with the devil's fruit lol
[2016-07-12 14:14:59] johndoe : Mr Blue: i wish dude, but he's all aspergery for lack of a better word. He's so socially awkward, that he could never like meet a normal girl outside the bar scene
[2016-07-12 14:15:04] johndoe : and even girls in the bar scene have standards
[2016-07-12 14:16:05] johndoe : the only positive aspect of his story is what he did before she met him
[2016-07-12 14:16:23] Mr Blue : johndoe: find him a village girl and set it to, hell even a prostutute if he didn't find out till he leaves the other
[2016-07-12 14:16:27] johndoe : he went on a total sex rampage. he went with over 50 girls in 1 month
[2016-07-12 14:16:54] elmorte : but that's like over 1/day?
[2016-07-12 14:16:55] Mr Blue : johndoe: lmao risky
[2016-07-12 14:17:18] johndoe : Mr Blue: he's married to a prostitute. that wouldn't be an issue. it's just that he has zero charisma or social skills.
[2016-07-12 14:17:20] elmorte : stamina!
[2016-07-12 14:17:32] johndoe : he never had a girlfriend in the US despite being in his early 30s
[2016-07-12 14:17:45] elmorte : Is he in IT?
[2016-07-12 14:17:58] elmorte : No offense @Bitmex_Sam!
[2016-07-12 14:18:23] johndoe : nah, he's no mark zuckerberg type of asperger's candidate. He's dabbled in many things - mostly online poker which he did quite well at actually for awhile
[2016-07-12 14:18:38] elmorte : damn, that's proper gambling...
[2016-07-12 14:19:14] johndoe : but then his gambling instincts took over and he just started increasing the betting limits - while at the same time online poker became a lot harder with tougher competition than the early-2000s boom years
[2016-07-12 14:19:39] Mr Blue : @johndoe well if he's happy fine, just make sure you get some Bitcoin for him, incase she leaves when the money does at least he'll have the last laugh.
[2016-07-12 14:20:47] elmorte : He'd probably like ETH better
[2016-07-12 14:20:59] Mr Blue : Lol
[2016-07-12 14:21:02] johndoe : Mr Blue: i don't think he is particularly happy, sadly. But his finances are so stretched, that she must see the end. I hope that is why she is getting so much of a facial-surgery makeover to find her next victim
[2016-07-12 14:21:24] Roevenger : that's how it starts
[2016-07-12 14:21:25] elmorte : aiyai...Thai women are naturally so pretty
[2016-07-12 14:21:27] johndoe : hah, yah he's more into silver and gold
[2016-07-12 14:22:37] elmorte : But everybody ages....
[2016-07-12 14:22:41] johndoe : elmorte: thats truly the saddest thing from my point of view, lol. if he had stayed with one of the hotties he was with during the first month and he blew all the money on her, i'd tolerate it. But this chick is not even decent looking - she hates how she looks. She has this horrible jawline that is so anti-Thai
[2016-07-12 14:23:01] Roevenger : the signs of women hunting instincts are obvious everytime, the problem is when we men are trapped in the love fantasy, we can't see it
[2016-07-12 14:23:06] elmorte : yikes....he can pick'em, hey
[2016-07-12 14:24:14] johndoe : i know that sounds judgmental, but really i can't see anything redeeming about her personality
[2016-07-12 14:24:37] elmorte : It's just frank...you're allowed to feel that way
[2016-07-12 14:24:41] johndoe : my family hates her even more than i do, but thats another story. On the positive side, it makes me feel like i got really lucky
[2016-07-12 14:25:16] johndoe : shes also an alcoholic and has had her share of ya ba (meth) - so there's that
[2016-07-12 14:25:46] elmorte : she sounds like one of my friend's sister in law....I call her "plastic fantastic".
[2016-07-12 14:25:57] johndoe : Roevenger: attraction definitely blinds men to reality
[2016-07-12 14:26:08] johndoe : elmorte: haha great name
[2016-07-12 14:30:15] johndoe : lol gotta bring back some levity. those first 2 months, he went from being a virgin to having more sexual partners than anyone i knew.
[2016-07-12 14:30:30] johndoe : he'd go to those soapy massage places and always insist on a three-some
[2016-07-12 14:31:03] elmorte : Haha, nice
[2016-07-12 14:31:15] elmorte : Was this BKK or the islands?
[2016-07-12 14:31:17] johndoe : he'd get all excited when he came back to our hotel and insist that i try it out
[2016-07-12 14:31:37] johndoe : i really felt happy for him then. This was in BKK and phuket
[2016-07-12 14:31:42] elmorte : I hope he didn't recommend the girls too...
[2016-07-12 14:32:12] johndoe : lol nah, that'd be "gay"
[2016-07-12 14:32:22] elmorte : My first Thailand trip was to Phuket....2005, 6 months after the tsunami
[2016-07-12 14:32:51] elmorte : Coz of the link to mainland, Phuket rebuilt pretty quickly
[2016-07-12 14:33:03] johndoe : i just never could quite understand why he needed the variety - always moving on to a different girl, even she was happy to go again. i guess it was because he didn't emotionally connect with any of them.
[2016-07-12 14:33:06] elmorte : But places like Phi Phi were still devastated
[2016-07-12 14:33:24] johndoe : yah that tsunami was horrible
[2016-07-12 14:33:42] johndoe : seen some footage in documentaries and just crazy.
[2016-07-12 14:34:41] elmorte : That "not connecting emotionally" part comes with experience too...
[2016-07-12 14:34:57] elmorte : which you say he didn't have though
[2016-07-12 14:36:22] johndoe : what do you mean comes with experience too?
[2016-07-12 14:36:49] elmorte : Can't say I could or would go thru 50 girls in a month even in the peak of my bachelorhood though
[2016-07-12 14:37:21] johndoe : yah and he didn't even try viagra or anything like that - he hates drugs/pills
[2016-07-12 14:37:45] elmorte : Depends on our definition of emotional connection I suppose...I meant more of an emotional attachment. You get over that with experience
[2016-07-12 14:37:58] johndoe : i think it was like an adrenaline rush - all of this he had been preparing for, for like 2 years before he came here
[2016-07-12 14:38:27] elmorte : As in you realize it was just that night and that's it
[2016-07-12 14:38:32] elmorte : And move on
[2016-07-12 14:38:41] johndoe : he kept that part secret though when he talked about why wanted to go to thailand with me. sometimes he said yah, they got some nice girls i think, but he never said, yah i wanna go F every bar girl i see
[2016-07-12 14:39:00] elmorte : haha....was he shy when you were growing up too?
[2016-07-12 14:39:44] elmorte : I'm guessing he didn't give much advice in the way of picking up ladies...
[2016-07-12 14:40:13] johndoe : elmorte: oh i see what you mean. yah, his wife won him over the first week together cause he got really sick from binge-drinking and developed a bad flu/cough. And she kind of nursed him over. A nice gesture to be sure, but she made sure they were staying at a 5-star hotel at the time and she was well-taken care of
[2016-07-12 14:41:01] johndoe : elmorte: hah, yah, ridiculous shy. couldn't even talk to a girl even in high school. he could barely talk to guys. i was actually like his best friend/primary person he could talk to.
[2016-07-12 14:42:20] elmorte : 655
[2016-07-12 14:43:03] elmorte : you closed that long yet?
[2016-07-12 14:43:11] johndoe : thats why i do feel bad. like i've abandoned our bond together. it's just that when he came here, especially after the first few weeks, he would just totally ignore anything regarding his plans with me or take any consideration about me. Like he'd stay out all night, and not come back to our shared hotel by 1pm to check-out. And he wouldn't tell me the next hotel he booked in our name. And his phone would be dead. So i'd wait in the lobby like a dumbass for hours with his bags that i'd had to pack up for him in the hotel room. Stupid shit like that
[2016-07-12 14:43:29] johndoe : you mean closed that short? still net short
[2016-07-12 14:45:08] elmorte : I thought you had a separate long from 655...was wondering how actually unless you had multiple accounts
[2016-07-12 14:45:17] elmorte : or maybe different platform
[2016-07-12 14:45:37] elmorte : Yeah, that sucks...how long ago was that though?
[2016-07-12 14:46:26] johndoe : no, i was $28k short starting around 653 on the initial upswing, and then i reduced my position with a $10k market order long at 655.42. So now i'm still $18k short
[2016-07-12 14:46:40] elmorte : Got it
[2016-07-12 14:47:28] elmorte : So your breakeven is about 651.5?
[2016-07-12 14:49:23] johndoe : i have an account on bitfinex that i have had a nice margin long for a little less than 2 months, since around $430. I use my trading model that i used for futures trading for that account - it tends to just trade trends mostly - not scalp at all
[2016-07-12 14:49:54] elmorte : manual or bot?
[2016-07-12 14:50:04] johndoe : well. the 18k is larger than the 10k, so it'd be a little higher than 651.5, but i don't know with the fees. I plan on holding it until 645 at the least - at least currently thats the plan
[2016-07-12 14:50:36] elmorte : 651.6556 but who's counting :)
[2016-07-12 14:50:37] johndoe : manual
[2016-07-12 14:50:50] johndoe : lol, yah, alright 651.65
[2016-07-12 14:51:30] elmorte : so since you trade trends, how do you know when it's time to get out if you got it wrong?
[2016-07-12 14:53:11] laisee : ... when the trend bends
[2016-07-12 14:53:11] johndoe : well, just to be clear, all my trading on bitmex is purely discretionary and not with a model - i just use fibonaccis and trendlines and over-sold/over-bought breakouts, and stuff like that. But on bitfinex, my trading model simply is always long or short - never cash. And it trades on average about once every 10 days or so
[2016-07-12 14:53:23] elmorte : or how do you know if you got it wrong in first place...I guess
[2016-07-12 14:53:40] elmorte : Ok cool
[2016-07-12 14:53:54] elmorte : laisee: obligatory check-in post :p have a good one bud
[2016-07-12 14:54:17] laisee : elmorte: I am ... Sam Miguel ;-)
[2016-07-12 14:54:26] johndoe : well, it's truly complex and it doesn't really "think" that way - like got it wrong. Whether the position is in profit or in loss isn't too relevant to my model. It does have a stop-market order triggered using the recent low
[2016-07-12 14:54:32] elmorte : Haha, cheers
[2016-07-12 14:54:36] johndoe : san miguel is great :) love that stop and cheap too!
[2016-07-12 14:54:50] elmorte : Pinoy beer ftw!
[2016-07-12 14:54:51] johndoe : love that stuff*
[2016-07-12 14:55:16] laisee : its one thing they got right in the 'pines :-)
[2016-07-12 14:55:30] elmorte : ....and the women, c'mon :)
[2016-07-12 14:55:37] johndoe : san miguel light is my wife's favorite beer by far. For awhile, she would refuse to drink anything else - wouldn't even order a drink if they didn't have it
[2016-07-12 14:56:20] laisee : johndoe: women in phils like Red Horse. Solid stuff ...
[2016-07-12 14:56:24] elmorte : I got all disappointed in light beers once I realized that to reduce calories, they reduce alcohol content :/
[2016-07-12 14:57:22] johndoe : went to the phils a couple times, but i don't recall trying Red Horse
[2016-07-12 14:57:36] johndoe : elmorte: haha yah, i remember when i had that realization as well
[2016-07-12 15:00:00] elmorte : Red horse is like almost 7%. Comes in those ubiquitous red cans...
[2016-07-12 15:00:23] elmorte : I never had it there but a friend brought it back from Manila once
[2016-07-12 15:01:08] johndoe : wow 7%
[2016-07-12 15:01:12] laisee : elmorte: ya, watch out if you are invited to drink red Horse
[2016-07-12 15:01:55] elmorte : Damn, my mistake, we actually did have it in Borocay
[2016-07-12 15:02:45] elmorte : That's right...my bachelors...we were stumbling down a beach a came across this dive place that was still open. And they were drinking red horse
[2016-07-12 15:02:54] elmorte : laisee: damn, you're right
[2016-07-12 15:03:17] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBJ24H`: Buy 11200 @ 68341.0
[2016-07-12 15:03:17] elmorte : Anyway, details are hazy
[2016-07-12 15:03:52] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBTUSD`: Buy 10670 @ 657.90
[2016-07-12 15:04:53] smoker : wasnt me that got rekt haha
[2016-07-12 15:05:17] elmorte : lol, still short?
[2016-07-12 15:05:22] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBTUSD`: Buy 6000 @ 660.11
[2016-07-12 15:05:25] smoker : no i sold long

[2016-07-12 15:05:50] elmorte : ooh...damn...
[2016-07-12 15:06:00] smoker : like 0.4 btc profit not much but its effed
[2016-07-12 15:06:04] johndoe : shorting 10k now
[2016-07-12 15:06:13] elmorte : Yeah, I almost shorted at 661
[2016-07-12 15:06:28] johndoe : actually 5k - hit my limit
[2016-07-12 15:06:47] smoker : its like cant move from 645-655
[2016-07-12 15:07:24] smoker : atleast some action today
[2016-07-12 15:07:31] justinlooking : hurray
[2016-07-12 15:09:02] johndoe : got in with 4.5k @ 663.21, and 500 @ 663.22 :)
[2016-07-12 15:09:11] johndoe : but still hurting obviously
[2016-07-12 15:09:12] elmorte : Nice, I was too slow
[2016-07-12 15:09:19] elmorte : couple of ppl went long at ~664.5
[2016-07-12 15:09:25] johndoe : didn't close any shorts - was in the other room - hah damn
[2016-07-12 15:09:29] johndoe : got all complacent
[2016-07-12 15:09:40] elmorte : get yer shit together @johndoe
[2016-07-12 15:09:52] johndoe : seriously
[2016-07-12 15:10:32] elmorte : mind on your money, and money on your mind
[2016-07-12 15:10:35] smoker : + 0.4977 XBT from 655 - 660
[2016-07-12 15:10:48] elmorte : and the finger on the trigger
[2016-07-12 15:10:49] macios15 : more pump incoming
[2016-07-12 15:11:23] elmorte : smoker: that's a couple of good nights out in Thailand
[2016-07-12 15:11:58] smoker : here 2 :)
[2016-07-12 15:12:01] johndoe : sure is
[2016-07-12 15:12:12] elmorte : or like a 3 month salary in Bangladesh
[2016-07-12 15:12:48] elmorte : j/k prob 6 months
[2016-07-12 15:13:23] smoker : 0.4977 profit and i had like 3.9 btc to play haha
[2016-07-12 15:14:05] johndoe : got my stops around 668 in case you guys wanna aim for them
[2016-07-12 15:15:09] justinlooking : target acquired :P
[2016-07-12 15:15:20] smoker : if i could just know where it will go now lol
[2016-07-12 15:15:34] justinlooking : 672 ofc
[2016-07-12 15:15:44] smoker : ok time to load 100k then
[2016-07-12 15:15:47] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBTUSD`: Buy 1500 @ 660.74
[2016-07-12 15:16:10] elmorte : I don't get this stop business...can you explain the thought process behind it? I mean wouldn't you be pissed off if it touches 668.1 and then plummets after that?
[2016-07-12 15:16:28] elmorte : I guess I lack the experience
[2016-07-12 15:16:48] johndoe : usually i get out gradually with different stops
[2016-07-12 15:17:11] johndoe : but yah, that's definitely the big risk/worry
[2016-07-12 15:17:32] johndoe : i just kinda fell asleep at the wheel back there :(
[2016-07-12 15:17:45] elmorte : I've only ever been liqd when market moved suddenly and then retraced...so problem wasn't my decision thought, it was the lack of capital (for the margin)
[2016-07-12 15:18:02] elmorte : Am I thinking about it wrongly?
[2016-07-12 15:18:27] smoker : i had a buy on finex on 645 but it hit the fan now
[2016-07-12 15:18:44] elmorte : Unless you're using a very small amount of capital, then stops just don't make sense to me if you're convinced of your position
[2016-07-12 15:19:26] johndoe : well, my primary position is that 2-month old margin long on bitfinex. this is just like for speculation/hedging
[2016-07-12 15:19:34] johndoe : my forte is in position trading - not daytrading
[2016-07-12 15:19:34] elmorte : But I realize other ppl feel exactly opposite, I just don't get it
[2016-07-12 15:20:24] johndoe : yah, your right - if you have conviction, you'd only use like a large emergency stop
[2016-07-12 15:20:55] johndoe : my stop for my two-moth old position is the last recent 555 low on bitfinex
[2016-07-12 15:21:31] elmorte : but that's still well in the money :)
[2016-07-12 15:21:54] johndoe : but that is actually not just a stop - it's a stop-and-reversal
[2016-07-12 15:21:58] smoker : johndoe: how many u pay for fees every day on long @ finex?
[2016-07-12 15:22:00] johndoe : so i'll take the same amount of contracts and short it
[2016-07-12 15:22:14] Rado : Looks like 650 is behind us now
[2016-07-12 15:22:20] elmorte : yup, covered hedge
[2016-07-12 15:22:28] Rado : should become support now
[2016-07-12 15:22:38] elmorte : but then you lose out on any price movements
[2016-07-12 15:23:25] nip : @bitmex: when i try to filter trade history by clicking a symbol, it reloads the page and loads my unfiltered trade history. i can manually get the trade history successfully by adding &filter=
[2016-07-12 15:23:45] johndoe : smoker: rather not say position size, but definitely the margin cost is fairly costly
[2016-07-12 15:24:16] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETHXBT`: Sell 1036 @ 0.01611
[2016-07-12 15:24:19] smoker : yeah fees kills it if price doesnt move
[2016-07-12 15:25:52] BitMEX_Sam : nip: Will check
[2016-07-12 15:25:55] elmorte : Ooh, Hillary and Bernie on TV together...
[2016-07-12 15:26:10] johndoe : yah, i've been pretty bored honestly. two months is pretty long in bitcoin world. i've also been short ETHUSD since about $16.50 on the day when the DAO fiasco cratered the market.
[2016-07-12 15:26:37] johndoe : really like this site though. happy to diversify away from bitfinex
[2016-07-12 15:26:41] BitMEX_Sam : nip: Not seeing that here. Any errors in your console? We're not getting any sent to us
[2016-07-12 15:27:02] BitMEX_Sam : johndoe: :+1: :rocket:
[2016-07-12 15:27:20] johndoe : =D
[2016-07-12 15:27:21] smoker : johndoe: ill trade here now works better for my trading
[2016-07-12 15:27:54] elmorte : BitMEX_Sam: click on a symbol only adds start=0 for me....
[2016-07-12 15:28:04] nip : BitMEX_Sam: i have had this issue since the feature was implemented. i get a toast saying NetworkError attempting to fetch resource. console says NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED
[2016-07-12 15:28:09] BitMEX_Sam : elmorte: Yes, to the url, but it should add a filter
[2016-07-12 15:28:15] nip : today i tried a get request and it worked fine
[2016-07-12 15:28:20] BitMEX_Sam : I'm working on getting the filter in the url so deep linking works properly
[2016-07-12 15:28:52] elmorte : k...i'd try a diff contract but it's been ages since the last trade
[2016-07-12 15:28:58] johndoe : elmorte: i missed what you said back there. when i said stop-and-reversal, i mean't not just close out my position, but close out and then take a new short position with the same exposure as my closed out long position had.
[2016-07-12 15:28:59] smoker : johndoe: and i like that here btc is in cold storage
[2016-07-12 15:29:01] BitMEX_Sam : Ah FF. Sometimes we have issues with it. I'll take a look
[2016-07-12 15:30:27] elmorte : Searching for 'ETHXBT' gives the unexpected token error
[2016-07-12 15:30:36] johndoe : smoker: yah, they seem to have their sh-t together here in terms of security and trading-engine speed.
[2016-07-12 15:31:07] elmorte : XBTM16 also...and I know I had some trades there
[2016-07-12 15:31:12] nip : BitMEX_Sam: it probably has to do with my security settings, but i thought i would mention it since the rest of the site works
[2016-07-12 15:31:25] BitMEX_Sam : nip: Not just you, I'm seeing it in Firefox too
[2016-07-12 15:31:29] BitMEX_Sam : I'll fix it & let you know when it's live
[2016-07-12 15:31:34] nip : thanks
[2016-07-12 15:31:35] ggwp : johndoe: stopped out mate?
[2016-07-12 15:32:14] elmorte : BitMEX_Sam: false alarm, clicking on XBTM16 works
[2016-07-12 15:32:55] elmorte : johndoe: k, so reverse and hope it's a breakout?
[2016-07-12 15:33:05] elmorte : BitMEX_Sam: works as in it filters properly
[2016-07-12 15:33:17] elmorte : but you already knew that :)
[2016-07-12 15:33:19] johndoe : ggwp: no, stops @ around 668
[2016-07-12 15:33:37] johndoe : ggwp: increased short by 5k @ 663.21/22
[2016-07-12 15:33:50] elmorte : BitMEX_Sam: Thanks for the fill history btw!
[2016-07-12 15:33:56] BitMEX_Sam : :+1:
[2016-07-12 15:34:23] johndoe : elmorte: sort of, but that is my position trading trend-following type of strategy which isn't as concerned about breakouts and short-term moves generally
[2016-07-12 15:34:53] johndoe : just hope it goes down gradually over the following days
[2016-07-12 15:35:24] elmorte : johndoe: did you come up with the strategy yourself, trial n error or how?
[2016-07-12 15:35:38] Roevenger : the indicators don't show me a good uptrend move, I could be wrong but I don't trust this climb until we break 666
[2016-07-12 15:35:41] ggwp : johndoe: k, be careful ;)
[2016-07-12 15:36:56] rullwull : waiting for 620
[2016-07-12 15:37:57] smoker : rullwull: i have same feeling last few days
[2016-07-12 15:38:28] smoker : could get messy really fast
[2016-07-12 15:38:59] johndoe : elmorte: yah, my father got me into trading about 10 years ago. I then developed many different models for many markets using manual trendline drawing and analysis with TradeStation software (never automated). Finally about 5 years ago, i started actually getting really good results in live trading (as opposed to back-tested results which are usually a mirage). So it has been about 10 years now of designing my models and learning about markets. All of which led me to my single model that i've been using for the last 3 years on futures and now BTC.
[2016-07-12 15:39:43] rullwull : i see it on daily and 4h, but of course nobody knows)
[2016-07-12 15:40:21] elmorte : johndoe: sweet as, nice job dad!
[2016-07-12 15:41:21] johndoe : haha yah, definitely a destiny-altering event
[2016-07-12 15:42:16] elmorte : so you traded back in the $1200s as well?
[2016-07-12 15:42:49] johndoe : no, i got into BTC in summer 2014 @ $600 or so
[2016-07-12 15:43:34] smoker : i joined @ $125 but didnt had any btc lol
[2016-07-12 15:44:17] elmorte : window shopping :)
[2016-07-12 15:44:18] rullwull : i still keep btc that i bought below 1 dollar
[2016-07-12 15:44:45] wotan : rullwull hero
[2016-07-12 15:45:00] elmorte : I bet you could sell it for almost $700 now...
[2016-07-12 15:46:38] rullwull : i sold half of them around 900-950 in 2013, and the rest never touched, waiting for the new highs in the beginning of august to sell some more
[2016-07-12 16:01:56] elmorte : Gonna be pretty pissed if something happens now as I'm about to go to sleep...
[2016-07-12 16:06:48] johndoe : yah, i this could be really critical if has a solid break above 667
[2016-07-12 16:08:06] smoker : atleast its some movement today haha

[2016-07-12 16:51:05] elmorte : probably since it takes into account time to expiry @daveberns1
[2016-07-12 16:51:12] ggwp : I find their kyc policy annoying
[2016-07-12 16:51:34] johndoe : ggwp: i've deposited/withdrew USD, so haven't had KYC issues

[2016-07-12 16:52:34] elmorte : Polo had to send a photo holding the ID
[2016-07-12 16:52:43] ggwp : but name/last name DoB address is obligatory
[2016-07-12 16:52:47] daveberns1 : elmorte: would they both take that into account?
[2016-07-12 16:52:48] ggwp : elmorte: yeah lol

[2016-07-12 16:53:00] elmorte : daveberns1: No, mark doesn't
[2016-07-12 16:53:09] elmorte : sorry, spot doesn't
[2016-07-12 16:53:32] elmorte : spot is exactly as defined, current price
[2016-07-12 16:53:46] elmorte : Spot on sept == spot on swap
[2016-07-12 16:54:18] wotan : nice push voer 666
[2016-07-12 16:56:01] elmorte : ggwp: yeah, my finex account is corporate and I sure as hell didn't send any docs
[2016-07-12 16:56:48] ggwp : elmorte: good to know, didn't feel like researching. Thanks!
[2016-07-12 17:02:30] ggwp : anyone have any qualms about the new EU laws on AML which'll impact crypto exchanges?
[2016-07-12 17:09:34] smoker : ggwp: where i can read that new eu laws?
[2016-07-12 17:10:45] ggwp : coindesk had an article iirc
[2016-07-12 17:11:02] smoker : i think i checked that day ago
[2016-07-12 17:11:11] ggwp : opinions?
[2016-07-12 17:13:34] smoker : ggwp: i see its aimed at terrorist financing im not a terroris so i dont know lol
[2016-07-12 17:16:57] elmorte : smoker: that's exactly what a terrorist would say!
[2016-07-12 17:17:14] daveberns1 : elmorte: so essentially that spread just represents a low daily rate?
[2016-07-12 17:17:19] smoker : oh no now u got me ahahah
[2016-07-12 17:17:26] daveberns1 : *swap rate
[2016-07-12 17:19:07] smoker : i guess they just wanna slap some taxes on our btcs
[2016-07-12 17:19:43] elmorte : daveberns1: the spread between spot and mark? That's just adjusted for time value, using % fair basis
[2016-07-12 17:19:45] ggwp : smoker: haha but it affects everyone, not only terrorists. I'd like to get a feel for how privacy-concious the community here is.
[2016-07-12 17:20:04] elmorte : Fair Value = Indicative Settlement Price * % Fair Basis * (Days Until Expiry / 365)
[2016-07-12 17:20:11] elmorte : from: https://www.bitmex.com/app/fairPriceMarking
[2016-07-12 17:24:57] johndoe : ggwp: sometimes people who have good reason to be privacy-conscious usually wouldn't want to get into detail about the fact that they are privacy-conscious or why they are privacy-conscious since that threatens their privacy :)
[2016-07-12 17:25:22] ggwp : johndoe: great point there
[2016-07-12 17:25:24] smoker : ggwp: soon it will be: sir u cant have that, sir we will tax u on that, sir we will take that from u lol
[2016-07-12 17:25:46] ggwp : smoker: already like that in some countries
[2016-07-12 17:26:29] ggwp : alright guys, gotta go. See ya later
[2016-07-12 17:26:49] johndoe : ggwp: see you soon
[2016-07-12 17:26:54] elmorte : Laters

[2016-07-12 18:29:42] justinlooking : smells like 700-705
[2016-07-12 18:36:16] smoker : smells like they are just waiting for u to short so it goes higher later lol
[2016-07-12 18:37:05] French_Canadian : eth dead?
[2016-07-12 18:37:51] smoker : ded?
[2016-07-12 19:00:10] mrp1nk : yeah seems so
[2016-07-12 19:55:10] mrp1nk : ia
[2016-07-12 19:55:12] mrp1nk : another
[2016-07-12 19:55:40] mrp1nk : sorry: another btc push could push it to dETH
[2016-07-12 19:56:43] aethlios : When we hit new ATH then the real party begins....
[2016-07-12 19:57:52] solesituation : how can you fetch Chart (XBJ24H
[2016-07-12 19:58:57] solesituation : i meant how can you fetch it on trading view.
[2016-07-12 19:59:21] BitMEX_Sam : solesituation: Unfortunately you can't, they are not listing any new Bitcoin products for some time.
[2016-07-12 19:59:25] BitMEX_Sam : You can get a fullscreen chart at https://www.bitmex.com/app/chart?symbol=XBJ24H
[2016-07-12 20:26:44] solesituation : BitMEX_Sam: Thank you.
[2016-07-12 20:32:44] yerb : BitMEX_Sam: coul you make an option to customize the plus/minus buttons and make a total of 6 of them
[2016-07-12 20:33:03] yerb : so we can put in our own incremen values
[2016-07-12 20:41:51] justinlooking : somewhat related, i see derpy behavour when trying to type in price
[2016-07-12 20:46:40] justinlooking : if u bksp the cents from a price (eg remove 49 from 674.49), the cursor jumps to beginning of the price
[2016-07-12 20:47:18] fineregex : yes
[2016-07-12 20:48:21] justinlooking : so if u in a rush, u change price, tab, enter, enter (or tab tab enter enter to sell) in a perfect storm u could get roughly caressed
[2016-07-12 20:49:43] rullwull : mentioned it...yea, it can create troubles
[2016-07-12 21:02:37] BitMEX_Sam : Thanks, I'm going to make sure that gets fixed
[2016-07-12 21:02:40] BitMEX_Sam : That's a new regression
[2016-07-12 21:07:21] BTCDJS : BitMEX_Sam: did I get skipped during funding?
[2016-07-12 21:07:36] BitMEX_Sam : Funding is in 7 hours
[2016-07-12 21:07:54] BitMEX_Sam : See your trade history: https://www.bitmex.com/app/tradeHistory
[2016-07-12 21:08:00] BTCDJS : My unrealised PNL is the same as before an hour ago
[2016-07-12 21:08:14] BitMEX_Sam : Funding doesn't affect unrealised PNL
[2016-07-12 21:08:18] BitMEX_Sam : It affects realised PNL.
[2016-07-12 21:09:02] BTCDJS : But you know what I mean right?
[2016-07-12 21:09:29] BitMEX_Sam : Was my explanation not clear?
[2016-07-12 21:09:43] BTCDJS : it usually adds that to my margin then starts from zero again
[2016-07-12 21:09:54] BitMEX_Sam : You're thinking of rebalance.
[2016-07-12 21:10:00] BitMEX_Sam : Funding goes directly to realised PNL.
[2016-07-12 21:10:27] BitMEX_Sam : It just so happens that rebalance & funding are at the same time once a day.
[2016-07-12 21:11:10] BTCDJS : Ok
[2016-07-12 21:21:53] Agro : where does bitmex operate? i'm based in the usa, cant seem to trade
[2016-07-12 21:23:46] justinlooking : muh liberty right?
[2016-07-12 21:33:40] mrp1nk : here we go eth
[2016-07-12 21:34:43] justinlooking : ?u mean btc?
[2016-07-12 21:42:54] BitMEX_Sam : Agro: We're incorporated in the Seychelles
[2016-07-12 21:44:11] Agro : ah, i see. i've been snooping around on the website, and i think i can trade in hk?
[2016-07-12 21:52:25] mrp1nk : justinlooking: i mean btceth
[2016-07-12 21:56:07] rullwull : Agro: there is no verification, why you can't trade?
[2016-07-12 21:57:18] Agro : well, on the register page, it says i can't deposit http://i.imgur.com/PCMpFb5.png
[2016-07-12 21:58:29] rullwull : oh shit, didn't know about limitation for us, use vpn
[2016-07-12 21:59:17] Agro : yeah, i guess i've gotta do that.. still, would i be able to transfer from a us bank acc
[2016-07-12 21:59:50] rullwull : there is no fiat, only crypto
[2016-07-12 21:59:55] Agro : ah
[2016-07-12 22:00:05] Agro : i have to deposit with btc/eth or something then?
[2016-07-12 22:00:06] rullwull : actually only bitcoins
[2016-07-12 22:00:20] Agro : i see, would i be able to transfer from something like coinbase
[2016-07-12 22:00:43] Agro : does bitmex give a btc address i can deposit to or somethin
[2016-07-12 22:00:57] rullwull : yes
[2016-07-12 22:01:09] Agro : alright, awesome
[2016-07-12 22:01:19] rullwull : i can give you mine)
[2016-07-12 22:01:58] BitMEX_Sam : Agro: We do not support US residents - if we find you are using a VPN to register we will be forced to close your account and send your deposit back.
[2016-07-12 22:02:11] Agro : ah
[2016-07-12 22:02:18] aethlios : BitMEX_Sam: Hi Sam, I was thinking of a new swap BTC to Gold, perpetual, very innovative and useful, it will make headlines.
[2016-07-12 22:03:51] rullwull : BitMEX_Sam: what if i use vpn, but I'm not us resident?
[2016-07-12 22:04:44] BitMEX_Sam : That's different. The action is only taken if we determine the account is owned by a US resident.
[2016-07-12 22:05:46] Agro : hmm, would it be ok if i traded under an institution that isn't based in the usa or something? is there any other way i could do this
[2016-07-12 22:06:01] rullwull : how can you determine? its impossible if always use vpn
[2016-07-12 22:07:29] rullwull : and what if i travel in us, can i trade from us?
[2016-07-12 22:08:24] BitMEX_Sam : Unfortunately I can't comment further.
[2016-07-12 22:12:15] wurstgelee : its easy. just dont be in the us
[2016-07-12 22:12:18] wurstgelee : ;)
[2016-07-12 22:13:52] rullwull : i already got an idea of smart contract app that can register an accounts for us customers and trade for them)
[2016-07-12 22:15:14] Adura : You're trying to get the US on the case of sites like this?
[2016-07-12 22:22:17] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBJ24H`: Buy 999 @ 70415.0
[2016-07-12 22:24:38] lockhedge : Bitfinex found a way to rely on the exception to the CFTC’s jurisdiction after this case http://www.cftc.gov/PressRoom/PressReleases/pr7380-16 they can still accept US customers after they found a way for "actual delivery" via BitGo's MultiSig wallets
[2016-07-12 22:40:07] 1QaZxSw2 : rullwull: guys please dont attract regulators attracion. if bitmex learns you are a us resident they have no choice but to shut your account
[2016-07-12 22:41:05] 1QaZxSw2 : if yoy use vpn, no exchange can determine your origin with certainty simply due to that fact
[2016-07-12 22:41:46] 1QaZxSw2 : but if they do find out some way .... they have two choices: close your account or be raped by us regulators
[2016-07-12 22:42:14] 1QaZxSw2 : guess what the will choose?
[2016-07-12 22:42:20] rullwull : 1QaZxSw2: sure, i won't) just surprised that there is such an issue
[2016-07-12 22:43:21] 1QaZxSw2 : but bitmex wont intentionally go examining every user and investigate them, they have too much sh!t to do
[2016-07-12 22:43:59] rullwull : so simply do not ask questions and use vpn)
[2016-07-12 22:45:05] 1QaZxSw2 : so ... this is my advice, not bitmex's ... if you want to go with vpn, no one will know ... but dont go asking on public forums and expect someone to say: yes, its cool just use vpn ... no exchange person can say it
[2016-07-12 22:47:05] rullwull : i understand it very well, just kidding)
[2016-07-12 22:56:10] justinlooking : okc cny orders not confirming :(
[2016-07-12 22:56:29] justinlooking : shenanigans
[2016-07-12 23:05:19] BitMEX_Sam : rullwull: justinlooking: I have a fix for that input bug, turns out it's a Blink (Chrome/Opera) bug
[2016-07-12 23:05:27] BitMEX_Sam : ... My favorite.
[2016-07-12 23:05:44] BitMEX_Sam : Tracking issue is https://github.com/facebook/react/issues/7253, in the meantime I have something I will deploy that hacks around it
[2016-07-12 23:06:18] rullwull : okc cny do not confirm orders for us customers)
[2016-07-12 23:06:32] rullwull : BitMEX_Sam: thanks
[2016-07-12 23:10:12] IChTj4OeMavRq6qeIyEb : BitMEX_Sam: Glad to hear that's being fixed. I was experiencing it and hadn't been bothered enough yet to say anything
[2016-07-12 23:10:29] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah it's a pretty bad one actually. Must have come in the latest Chrome update
[2016-07-12 23:10:40] BitMEX_Sam : Technically it affects *everyone* using number inputs with React in Chrome/Opera
