[2016-07-12 11:53:52] johndoe : Mr Blue: they got no idea what bitcoin is here
[2016-07-12 11:54:09] johndoe : Mr Blue: you gotta convert it to Thai baht with companies like coins.co.th
[2016-07-12 11:54:20] johndoe : but you get good exchange rates and they have like $1 fees or less
[2016-07-12 11:54:34] Mr Blue : johndoe: Bangkok had plenty of Bitcoin merchant ?
[2016-07-12 11:54:35] johndoe : cheaper than the ridiculous $6 ATM fees here for overseas banks
[2016-07-12 11:54:51] Mr Blue : Cool
[2016-07-12 11:55:26] johndoe : Mr Blue: really? i guess that makes sense. They are miles ahead in this type of thing over most parts of the country. I've never lived in bangkok so i wouldn't know.
[2016-07-12 11:57:00] johndoe : Mr Blue: yah, i'm really being too open here, but i pretty much use btc to thai baht transfers for everything i buy. i try to avoid the traditional banking system for many idealogical reasons as well as fees.
[2016-07-12 11:58:02] johndoe : Mr Blue: if you got a thai citizen friend it definitely helps to use their national ID number for a quick ATM withdrawal of up to $20k baht with a simple passcode delivered via email. thats my fav method. $1 fee too
[2016-07-12 11:58:49] elmorte : wow, that's brilliant. Is there a premium though?
[2016-07-12 11:58:55] Mr Blue : https://coinmap.org/#/world/14.53573263/101.79931641/7
[2016-07-12 12:00:07] Mr Blue : johndoe: you tried localbitcoins over there? Or one of these new Bitcoin debit cards?
[2016-07-12 12:00:45] johndoe : elmorte: well it depends. as of this moment, they have a fairly bad exchange rate of only the thai baht equivalent of $640. but there are no fees or less than $1 USD
[2016-07-12 12:00:54] johndoe : right now is an upswing in the price
[2016-07-12 12:01:06] johndoe : you gotta catch them during the downswings for their price to be higher than the real market price
[2016-07-12 12:01:14] elmorte : Yup, same here...
[2016-07-12 12:01:25] johndoe : i've gotten as high as 6% arbitration profits which is ridiculous
[2016-07-12 12:01:29] Mr Blue : Well Thailand has more Bitcoin merchants than Nepal that's for sure
[2016-07-12 12:01:30] elmorte : cept we don't have those cool withdrawal features
[2016-07-12 12:01:33] johndoe : i feel bad for them sometimes lol
[2016-07-12 12:02:40] johndoe : they really are slow sometimes with the price - which is bizarre, because their owner/sister company coins.co.ph is really fast with price
[2016-07-12 12:03:15] elmorte : One probably uses the USD index denominated in THB
[2016-07-12 12:03:21] elmorte : The other demand & supply...
[2016-07-12 12:03:39] johndoe : coins.co.ph is bigger and started first - they operate similarly in the philippines, but they have more features probably because so many filipinos send money back home from overseas.
[2016-07-12 12:03:50] johndoe : i've never actually used them though
[2016-07-12 12:04:09] elmorte : Malaysia can regularly be US$10 higher than China! Never mind the USD exchanges...
[2016-07-12 12:04:50] johndoe : yah, probably. they do tend to correct their prices quickly after i make 5 BTC withdrawals in one order to capture all of that arb. profit. :)
[2016-07-12 12:05:00] elmorte : lol
[2016-07-12 12:05:45] johndoe : elmorte: yah, most places are really bad with their premiums, south africa, as another example is worse than USA for sure
[2016-07-12 12:06:40] elmorte : Yup...I use BitX and they offer Rand/BTC as well. The trollbox was full of SAs complaining about the premium
[2016-07-12 12:07:11] Mr Blue : USD will have the same buying power as the Liberian $ soon enough, buy Bitcoin now I say lol
[2016-07-12 12:08:39] johndoe : well, keep in mind you have to compare USD to another currency - not to BTC or gold - for most people's situation. I like USD more than almost any other fiat currency, partly because it is accepted everywhere with good exchange rates
[2016-07-12 12:08:47] Mr Blue : Liberia the only US colony in Africa
[2016-07-12 12:09:10] johndoe : so, i'd say usd>rand , even though gold>USD
[2016-07-12 12:09:46] johndoe : Mr Blue: yah, not that it seems to have worked out very well
[2016-07-12 12:09:56] johndoe : Mr Blue: at least for the liberians
[2016-07-12 12:10:07] Mr Blue : johndoe: USD and the Yuan both in a fight to the bottom, but think I'd rather hold Yuan
[2016-07-12 12:10:08] elmorte : Yes, most certainly...i got into BTC because our local currency was tanking
[2016-07-12 12:10:34] elmorte : Went from 3 to a dollar to 4.4
[2016-07-12 12:10:56] Mr Blue : johndoe: haha true, but they did it to their self's, eating bloody baby's... what sort of humans do that
[2016-07-12 12:11:25] johndoe : its also great how you can use USD in Laos and everyone is happy to accept it instead of laos kip. Or in cambodia it is basically the official currency of the land for anything about $0.99 transactions (those use local coins instead)
[2016-07-12 12:11:46] johndoe : above $0.99*
[2016-07-12 12:11:51] elmorte : Yup, can confirm for Cambodia
[2016-07-12 12:12:06] Mr Blue : I watched a vice episode on the Liberian civil war, very disgusting
[2016-07-12 12:12:31] Tetsuo : General butt-naked didn´t impress you?
[2016-07-12 12:12:47] johndoe : yah that EM down-move was pretty hectic for malaysia and others. thailand managed it pretty well though with the baht not losing too much (unfortunately for me).
[2016-07-12 12:13:47] elmorte : yeah, we were the worst of the bunch
[2016-07-12 12:14:09] Mr Blue : Still the fact newly free slaves was given the option to start again in Africa with their own country was worth doing, even if it was done from a racist prospective, in fact I think black people in the US can still join Liberia to this day
[2016-07-12 12:14:41] Mr Blue : Tetsuo: banana ye general butt naked, man you seen what I seen lol
[2016-07-12 12:14:49] Mr Blue : Haha**
[2016-07-12 12:15:29] elmorte : Damn...TIL. My extent of knowledge of Liberia was limited to George Weah and something about a first female president
[2016-07-12 12:18:19] Mr Blue : Tetsuo: mark my words general butt naked will run the country soon enough, his new found belief in god is fake, he uses it as a reason to keep his troops close as well, that's what I seen from that documentary, one sneaky son of a bitch
[2016-07-12 12:19:47] Tetsuo : there is also a movie about him: "The redemption of general butt naked" Me persoanlly, i wasn´t so convinced about his conversion to a newborn christian, : - D , but that´s just my opinion
[2016-07-12 12:20:32] Mr Blue : Tetsuo: +1
[2016-07-12 12:21:09] johndoe : I got not idea about Liberia, but that sounds pretty f'd up. Kinda makes me appreciate living under a military junta here in Thailand, or a Trump/Clinton presidency in the US. Sometimes Westerners have no idea how good we have it relatively
[2016-07-12 12:22:34] johndoe : just read this article about the upcoming constitutional referendum... more bizarre than satire: http://www.prachatai.com/english/node/6351
[2016-07-12 12:23:42] Tetsuo : it´s also cheaper to bribe the police in SE Asia
[2016-07-12 12:24:03] johndoe : On Monday, 11 July 2016, Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, the PM and junta head, said that if the August draft constitution referendum fails, he will draft another by himself, adding that he could do anything since he already underwent military parachute training, Thairath reported. “If things remain unsettled, I will draft it [the constitution] myself, not as I wish, but as the people want it to be. And let’s see if it passes or not,” said Gen Prayut. “There is nothing in this world I can’t do. As a soldier, I’ve been through a lot, risking my life so many times. When I was in the infantry at the 21st Military Circle, I underwent parachute training. I had to jump and land by myself. Once I deployed the parachute, I knew that I can do anything. My life is under my control.”
[2016-07-12 12:24:36] johndoe : lol
[2016-07-12 12:25:04] Tetsuo : i once drove high in opium and with a bottle of whiskey between my legs on a scooter in cambodia, police stopped me and gave me that look. I offered them 5$, which they happily took and let me ride again after that
[2016-07-12 12:25:32] johndoe : haha, yah i love cambodia when it comes to drugs
[2016-07-12 12:25:42] Tetsuo : mhmmmmmm
[2016-07-12 12:25:44] johndoe : $5 is pretty generous really
[2016-07-12 12:25:51] Mr Blue : Tetsuo: great story
[2016-07-12 12:26:56] johndoe : never got into opium, but have my share of opiate pills/cannabis/benzo experiences in cambodia
[2016-07-12 12:27:21] Tetsuo : johndoe: do you know that whiskey they offer there, cambodian made? "khmwer whiskey 31" worst booze i have ever had, drank 2 full bottles of it anyway
[2016-07-12 12:27:43] Tetsuo : johndoe: yeah opiate pills and benzos are dirt cheap in the pharmacy
[2016-07-12 12:27:50] elmorte : Most I did in Cambodia was eat too much a happy pizza...
[2016-07-12 12:28:05] johndoe : Tetsuo: lol never touched the stuff. after drinking plenty of Thai whiskey, i didn't dare to bother with cambodian whiskey.
[2016-07-12 12:28:32] elmorte : Sang som?
[2016-07-12 12:28:33] Mr Blue : When I was last in Bulgaria I crossed the road in from of a police car slowly and just waved at them, this Bulgarian gypsy started laughing like it wasn't the done thing lol, but as far as I'm concerned they're there to do as tourists say
[2016-07-12 12:28:56] Tetsuo : : - D
[2016-07-12 12:29:14] johndoe : yah hong thong and sang som - both pretty crappy unless you are already drunk
[2016-07-12 12:29:32] johndoe : but they do water it down with ice, so that does help
[2016-07-12 12:29:41] elmorte : yeah, we used to love that when we were younger. Bottle of coke and sang som...
[2016-07-12 12:29:56] elmorte : Make your own buckets
[2016-07-12 12:30:15] elmorte : horrible horrible stuff. Great memories though :)
[2016-07-12 12:30:42] elmorte : In east Malaysia they have something they call Monkey Juice...
[2016-07-12 12:31:05] elmorte : A type of rum....but a quarter of a price of any branded spirits
[2016-07-12 12:31:19] elmorte : Same story
[2016-07-12 12:32:13] johndoe : hah, monkey juice
[2016-07-12 12:32:17] elmorte : I do remember finding generic xanax in a Cambodian pharmacy. That was pretty cool
[2016-07-12 12:32:25] brendens20 : hi guys how does one trade using this platform...im a newbie:)
[2016-07-12 12:32:28] johndoe : i don't know why its so hard to make liquor taste decent
[2016-07-12 12:32:34] elmorte : Still cheaper in Thailand though
[2016-07-12 12:33:01] elmorte : johndoe: haha...age old dillema of potency vs taste I suppose...
[2016-07-12 12:33:55] johndoe : yah cambodia is still the best for xanax. Laos recently got stricter - now you can only get valium and lexomil (lexomil is pretty good though). The only exception is that 10 pills in a box xanax for like $15
[2016-07-12 12:34:09] Mr Blue : Also I asked some for directions with Cannabis in my pocket, because why not lol they're there to serve just like the UK police still should be, ask one of them for directions they'll probably want to check your pockets lol, but Bulgarian police can be fairly cool, last year in Varna I was at some war hero celebration so I asked one of the police what it was, they told me, but I also seen a Bulgarian get asked for ID for crossing same point I did, if they'd of asked me for I'd I'd of been like wtf you talking about
[2016-07-12 12:34:19] johndoe : but valium is still only a few pennies
[2016-07-12 12:34:21] johndoe : in laos
[2016-07-12 12:34:27] elmorte : Haven't tried lexomil
[2016-07-12 12:34:54] Mr Blue : ID**
[2016-07-12 12:35:21] elmorte : $15 per strip of xanax? What dosage?
[2016-07-12 12:35:48] johndoe : never traveled to eastern europe, but i imagine that area is pretty lax, especially for tourists
[2016-07-12 12:36:54] elmorte : Bulgaria is more of South East
[2016-07-12 12:37:02] johndoe : i forget the exact price, it was like 2 years ago, but it went from very cheap generics to zero generics overnight. And all that was left at the places i had bought from in earlier trips was $15 per strip of 1mg xanax (possibly 2mg), and $1 for like 20 valium or something
[2016-07-12 12:37:07] johndoe : 10mg valium
[2016-07-12 12:37:13] elmorte : Different ball game...probably more friendly than E.E.
[2016-07-12 12:37:35] elmorte : Yeah, Vals are still dirt cheap
[2016-07-12 12:37:51] Mr Blue : johndoe: ye they're cool with tourists but the laws are fucked, Cannabis = class A in Bulgaria
[2016-07-12 12:38:25] elmorte : In Sukhumvit, a strip of 0.5mg used to go for 180-200 THB
[2016-07-12 12:39:20] johndoe : they still got lexomil - which is unfamilar to most people. It is only sold as genuine name-brand from france, 30 bars of 6mg for about $15. I prefer it over valium for sure, but it is definitely not like xanax
[2016-07-12 12:40:04] johndoe : Mr Blue: wow class A, pretty bad. Thailand sucks too btw for cannabis. It's like 5 years for possession or something
[2016-07-12 12:40:18] johndoe : you basically have to hope your bribe works (which is usually does thankfully :) )
[2016-07-12 12:41:44] johndoe : elmorte: yah, that sounds about the same as now. i bought strips of 1mg generic for i believe 300 baht each
[2016-07-12 12:41:56] Mr Blue : johndoe: for Cannabis??? Maybe for exporting / importing, but I thought Cannabis grew wild in Thailand, Nepal is cool you can smoke and eat Cannabis at festivals
[2016-07-12 12:42:10] elmorte : Mr Blue: all about the money...
[2016-07-12 12:42:39] johndoe : Mr Blue: those days are long over. US's DEA regional HQ is in Bangkok - that should tell you something
[2016-07-12 12:43:15] elmorte : That DEA likes to party!
[2016-07-12 12:43:20] johndoe : Thailand started going the wrong way during late vietnam war when too many GIs were getting high, and the US military started getting involved in domestic isssues
[2016-07-12 12:44:09] johndoe : first they came for the opium, and i didn't say anything because i didn't know do opiates, then they came for cannabis, and no one was left to save me.
[2016-07-12 12:44:12] johndoe : lols
[2016-07-12 12:44:53] elmorte : haha...I seriously love Bangkok. If I had to move anywhere...
[2016-07-12 12:45:13] Mr Blue : elmorte: true but I think with the US states starting to accept Cannabis again with dispenceries the rest of the world will follow, like they did with criminalisation, even though in my country to be a criminal you must brake the common law, they still shit states in the faces of free range slaves.
[2016-07-12 12:45:48] johndoe : but in all seriousness - Thailand sucks compared to cambodia for ganja. I usually have to buy brick-pack shit that comes from them just yanking plants outta the ground near some rivers, and packing it without removing seeds/stems or even fuckin' spiders
[2016-07-12 12:46:18] johndoe : half-green, half brownish leaves - so sad
[2016-07-12 12:46:30] Mr Blue : johndoe: sorry to hear that mate
[2016-07-12 12:46:34] johndoe : so far away from anything in the US
[2016-07-12 12:47:00] Mr Blue : johndoe: you tried making hash out of it??? You'll be surprised
[2016-07-12 12:47:26] johndoe : fortunately, there are now other avenues to acquire that involves using BTC, which i shall not get into too many details about - because you probably have heard of it before
[2016-07-12 12:48:42] johndoe : Mr Blue: hash is a great idea - i've made hash outta trim (stuff trimmed away from the real buds) from a homegrow a few years back. And the stuff was just as potent as anything i bought from a legit pharmacy.
[2016-07-12 12:48:49] Mr Blue : If it's fresh can make hand rubbed charas. If dry get a mesh screen 90 micron and tab / rub the Cannabis above it until all the gold goodness falls below
[2016-07-12 12:49:11] Mr Blue : Tap / rub**
[2016-07-12 12:49:19] Mr Blue : johndoe: cool
[2016-07-12 12:50:44] elmorte : johndoe: off day today?
[2016-07-12 12:50:52] johndoe : yah i used about 5 different mesh screens layered using ice and water. It took awhile, but in the end, we had tons of kief/hash. The color was more black than most golden stuff i've seen, but it was just as potent
[2016-07-12 12:51:34] johndoe : elmorte: you mean with trading? i'm down $1 on that $10k trade from awhile back, but still holding short with $18.5k that i got at a 653.91 entry price average
[2016-07-12 12:51:47] elmorte : Nah, like day job
[2016-07-12 12:52:10] elmorte : Since we've been chatting for ages and I got fck all work done, lol
[2016-07-12 12:52:12] Mr Blue : johndoe: you use dream market? I'd rather just buy or grow offline, specially in cheap countries like Thailand, try some of the auto flowering genetics, you won't have to wait all year for a smoke
[2016-07-12 12:52:53] johndoe : no, i trade BTC professionally - seriously. I used to trade US futures (S&P500, gold, oil, and treasuries), but i've switched full time to BTC
[2016-07-12 12:53:06] johndoe : today is just pretty quiet in terms of movement
[2016-07-12 12:53:10] elmorte : sweet as, good on ya
[2016-07-12 12:53:50] Mr Blue : johndoe: ye +1 to that
[2016-07-12 12:54:15] johndoe : Mr Blue: unfortunately, i'm living in a fairly rural area that is pretty conservative and my Thai wife and her family wouldn't take to kindly if i smoked here let alone grew here.
[2016-07-12 12:54:33] ggwp : johndoe: kek
[2016-07-12 12:55:10] johndoe : Mr Blue: nah, i used Evolution before they went down - but i haven't used any darknet markets in like a year and a half
[2016-07-12 12:55:43] johndoe : i just compartmentalize my life and leave cannabis for my trips back home to the US or ventures to cambodia, or sometimes in tourist areas in Thailand
[2016-07-12 12:56:19] johndoe : it is my biggest regret of living here, hah :)
[2016-07-12 12:57:10] ggwp : johndoe: UK?
[2016-07-12 12:57:19] ggwp : or Thailand?
[2016-07-12 12:57:22] elmorte : How's the internet there?
[2016-07-12 12:57:24] johndoe : nah, USA
[2016-07-12 12:58:01] ggwp : johndoe: " trips back home to the US"?
[2016-07-12 12:58:10] ggwp : sorry to butt in
[2016-07-12 12:58:18] ggwp : but I'm interested
[2016-07-12 12:58:51] johndoe : it's actually quite good. ToT service runs at about 20 mbps, and i have a backup True Internet 3g/4g hotspot as a backup. But here they have only 3G in the village that i live in, which is like 2 mbps. But the landline is 20mbps so most of the time, it's all good
[2016-07-12 12:58:53] elmorte : so polite
[2016-07-12 12:59:30] johndoe : ggwp: yah, california
[2016-07-12 12:59:46] ggwp : johndoe: cool, but where do you live now?
[2016-07-12 12:59:47] elmorte : nice! Main drawback is usually the price & availability of fast internet
[2016-07-12 12:59:51] ggwp : Thailand?
[2016-07-12 13:00:08] elmorte : For "digital nomads"....
[2016-07-12 13:00:20] johndoe : ggwp: yah, i live in Isaan, in the northeast of Thailand
[2016-07-12 13:00:33] johndoe : in a small village of 100 people or so
[2016-07-12 13:01:56] ggwp : johndoe: sounds nice, but what do you live off of out there?
[2016-07-12 13:02:00] johndoe : elmorte: from what i understand Thailand used to be pretty mediocre, but i came here within the last 5 years, and it's also been fine for me in terms of speed. Occasionally it runs slow like in the US, and defnitely hotels are unpredictable, but whenever i've had a condo, it's always been great.
[2016-07-12 13:02:30] elmorte : I'm just asking coz you said rural area
[2016-07-12 13:02:43] johndoe : i use agoda to book hotels and i always look at the reviews that mention wifi speed and connectivity - maybe that is why i've been pretty luck with hotels even
[2016-07-12 13:02:49] elmorte : And I can't imagine fiber reaching there
[2016-07-12 13:03:04] johndoe : ggwp: just rice
[2016-07-12 13:03:13] elmorte : haha
[2016-07-12 13:03:14] johndoe : always rice. only rice. a sad life
[2016-07-12 13:03:35] elmorte : Hotels are usually awesome for me. Some crazy speeds in most remote hotels in China...
[2016-07-12 13:03:41] ggwp : johndoe: lel, rephrasing: how do you make a living?
[2016-07-12 13:04:19] elmorte : He married into money
[2016-07-12 13:04:40] elmorte : That village of 100ppl? 96 his servants
[2016-07-12 13:04:40] johndoe : ggwp: jk, i've been trading futures contracts with a US brokerage all my time living here. But in the last 18 months or so, i've been gradually switching to BTC only and about 9 months ago I switched completely.
[2016-07-12 13:05:11] johndoe : so far so good - making about the median salary in the US
[2016-07-12 13:06:08] johndoe : elmorte: yah, my wife's family has been the head of the village going back many generations. There are many people here that you could call her serfs
[2016-07-12 13:06:30] johndoe : but only about a dozen, not 96 - don't be ridiculous
[2016-07-12 13:06:49] elmorte : :)
[2016-07-12 13:07:30] johndoe : it is true though, that most of the local men here either farm rice or do other manual labor.
[2016-07-12 13:07:43] johndoe : i don't know why they can't branch out beyond rice - it's really over-saturated in the market.
[2016-07-12 13:08:07] johndoe : it's like a generational thing. Well my parents farmed rice, so why shouldn't I? attitude
[2016-07-12 13:08:15] elmorte : what would you grow instead?
[2016-07-12 13:08:29] johndoe : honestly don't know i'm from an urban area
[2016-07-12 13:09:08] johndoe : never saw buffalos shitting all over the land until i moved here
[2016-07-12 13:09:25] Tetsuo : rofl
[2016-07-12 13:09:33] johndoe : it is pretty dry here, so i know they can't grow coconuts, but there's got to be some other crops
[2016-07-12 13:09:35] ggwp : johndoe: ah, cool! is the rice gmo?
[2016-07-12 13:09:52] johndoe : no Thailand is really strict about GMO rice actually. They are cool about that
[2016-07-12 13:10:03] johndoe : Thai rice is literally like the national heritage - they wouldn't jeopardize it
[2016-07-12 13:10:08] Mr Blue : johndoe: e-cig is an idea, you could make rosin and mix / heat it up with e-cig juice to decarb if you needed stealth.
[2016-07-12 13:10:16] johndoe : even "eat food" in Thai is literally "eat rice"
[2016-07-12 13:11:00] ggwp : johndoe: oh, nice to know :)
[2016-07-12 13:11:00] johndoe : Mr Blue: sadly, they made e-cigs illegal. And i believe last month, they made it a 5-years in jail crime to sell them or import them
[2016-07-12 13:11:04] johndoe : so i had to give up the habit
[2016-07-12 13:11:29] johndoe : stupid obviously, but that is thailand's gov. always gotta protect the government - in this case the gov. tobacco company
[2016-07-12 13:11:41] elmorte : Second biggest net exporter of rice after India.
[2016-07-12 13:11:42] johndoe : and its partial monopoly
[2016-07-12 13:11:48] johndoe : have malboros, but huge tax
[2016-07-12 13:11:53] elmorte : I think we need Thai rice :)
[2016-07-12 13:11:54] johndoe : and i only use e-cigs, not real
[2016-07-12 13:12:15] johndoe : yah, they were number 1 until recently. its actually a good story
[2016-07-12 13:12:38] johndoe : basically, the last government, that the military junta overthrew 2 years ago, had this rice scheme where they would buy rice at above market prices
[2016-07-12 13:12:57] johndoe : they then tried to sell it to other govs. and countries but couldn't sell most of it and had to warehouse it
[2016-07-12 13:13:10] johndoe : later, it slowly got old and much of it had to be wasted or used for animal feed
[2016-07-12 13:13:14] johndoe : billions of dollars lost
[2016-07-12 13:13:21] johndoe : and thailand lost its exporting
[2016-07-12 13:13:23] elmorte : aiyai....
[2016-07-12 13:13:37] johndoe : in fact, it started importing from cambodia, because traders knew they could sell to the thai gov for a 50% marketup
[2016-07-12 13:13:49] elmorte : yeah, haha...ppl will do that.
[2016-07-12 13:13:50] johndoe : totally crazy - trying to buy votes from villagers like the ones i live with
[2016-07-12 13:14:13] elmorte : Singapore gets their water super cheap from Malaysia. Coz they need it to live....
[2016-07-12 13:14:30] elmorte : In turn, they bottled it and exported it for huge profit. Was a big scandal
[2016-07-12 13:14:40] johndoe : lol
[2016-07-12 13:15:29] johndoe : pretty smart actually if they didn't get caught
[2016-07-12 13:15:50] elmorte : Serbia had a similar thing with sugar I think. EU was buying at a fixed price from Serbia under some agreement...Serbian companies would instead of producing, import cheaper sugar then sell it back
[2016-07-12 13:16:11] johndoe : one thing i like about Thailand is they got 500ml cold spring mineral water for like $0.20 at all 7/11s
[2016-07-12 13:16:22] elmorte : oh yeah, the glass bottle one?
[2016-07-12 13:16:34] johndoe : nah, it's plastic - Aura brand
[2016-07-12 13:16:41] johndoe : but i do like the glass Singhas
[2016-07-12 13:16:43] elmorte : My bad, that;s soda
[2016-07-12 13:16:56] johndoe : but i don't know if those are spring water or not - they do come from a beer company
[2016-07-12 13:17:13] elmorte : yeah, the hand grenade looking ones
[2016-07-12 13:17:19] johndoe : yah glass coke for 10 baht ($0.30) is cool
[2016-07-12 13:17:19] ggwp : johndoe: water for beer should always be top-knotch
[2016-07-12 13:17:48] johndoe : it does taste good. it is nothing like Dasani or Aquafina, so it may be true spring water
[2016-07-12 13:18:26] ggwp : how's nature there?
[2016-07-12 13:18:29] johndoe : but i've always suspected that Singha and Chang just started selling water in addition to beer to get around the ban on beer advertising.
[2016-07-12 13:18:33] ggwp : do you hike 'n shit?
[2016-07-12 13:18:42] johndoe : they got their logos on all sorts of football teams now
[2016-07-12 13:19:04] elmorte : johndoe: sounds plausible. Dunhill sells all sorts of nonsense here for the same reason
[2016-07-12 13:19:32] johndoe : ggwp: not too much. I do travel a lot all over the country, but i've been the type that does true hiking. just a tourist that likes to slowly wander
[2016-07-12 13:19:57] elmorte : I remember going into 7/11 once to get a beer and they were like "Nope, not till 5pm" or something like that
[2016-07-12 13:20:37] johndoe : one crazy trivia fact: in thailand, on all thai TV channels, any alcoholic substance/glass/bottle or cigarette is crudely censored with big circles of blurriness
[2016-07-12 13:20:56] johndoe : but leave it to beer companies to get around that with their water
[2016-07-12 13:21:44] ggwp : johndoe: "but i've been the type that does true hiking" you mean I've never been?
[2016-07-12 13:21:48] johndoe : elmorte: yah, they ban sales during like 3 hours of after-school hours to prevent underage drinking - absurd strategy
[2016-07-12 13:22:28] johndoe : ggwp: correct - never hiked a day in my life
[2016-07-12 13:22:41] johndoe : not fat or anything, just too lazy
[2016-07-12 13:22:43] elmorte : Lets hope you don't have to
[2016-07-12 13:22:51] ggwp : hehe lel
[2016-07-12 13:23:00] ggwp : to each their own!
[2016-07-12 13:23:14] ggwp : biking?
[2016-07-12 13:23:22] ggwp : I assumer none of that either
[2016-07-12 13:23:25] johndoe : i mean it looks fun. truly does, but i have enough travel exercising 3 times a week
[2016-07-12 13:23:39] johndoe : and my thai wife would be even more adverse to it - even though she is fit
[2016-07-12 13:23:54] johndoe : Thais - especially women - f'ing hate the sun
[2016-07-12 13:23:56] ggwp : johndoe: going 100 miles to the nearest gym?
[2016-07-12 13:24:20] elmorte : Have a fitness trainer friend...great guy, ex military as well. Makes me do cardio but never does it himself coz "fck that, I ran enough in my life"
[2016-07-12 13:24:33] johndoe : ggwp: nah, no biking. i go to the gym a few times a month. They got one about 20 min drive from the village in the local town.
[2016-07-12 13:24:53] johndoe : usually i just do P90x Kenpo type easy stuff at home
[2016-07-12 13:25:15] johndoe : elmorte: lol
[2016-07-12 13:26:43] ggwp : johndoe: nice, lots of cars in the area?
[2016-07-12 13:26:47] johndoe : ggwp: but to answer your broader question - yeah, they got tons of great nature here and i'm sure tons great hiking trails - there are tons of places that sell hiking trips for tourists
[2016-07-12 13:27:03] johndoe : and of course you can go without paying a middleman
[2016-07-12 13:27:14] johndoe : to guide you or whatever
[2016-07-12 13:27:19] elmorte : johndoe: is it a bit cooler up there compared to down south?
[2016-07-12 13:27:31] elmorte : I was told Chiang Mai was
[2016-07-12 13:28:01] johndoe : yah, of course. i got a toyota hilux and there are plenty of trucks in the village. But motorbikes do outnumber trucks - but not by that much anymore
[2016-07-12 13:29:11] johndoe : in the northeast where i am, it is famously hot and dry - dry relative to Thailand. In chiang mai is has a really hot/dry season followed by a rainy fairly-cool season which is nice
[2016-07-12 13:29:13] ggwp : nice of you to share so much, thanks for the the detailed answers!
[2016-07-12 13:29:29] johndoe : and in november-feb, chiang mai has great weather - very modest rain and not too hot
[2016-07-12 13:29:50] elmorte : How you coping? A/C or used to it already?
[2016-07-12 13:29:55] johndoe : in march/april the dry heat comes and there is a lot of ugly smog from crop-burning
[2016-07-12 13:30:06] johndoe : and in may, the rain cleans it all back to green
[2016-07-12 13:30:08] ggwp : one last q before I get off: any problems with venomous animals in the house?
[2016-07-12 13:30:31] brendens20 : johndoe: which plat form do you use to trade bitcoins
[2016-07-12 13:30:53] johndoe : elmorte: A/C for sure. i'd say it is necessary coming from california
[2016-07-12 13:31:21] elmorte : brendens20: sorry, we've ignored you a bit
[2016-07-12 13:31:38] johndoe : ggwp: its okay, i love thailand :) happy to spread the word. nah, just mosquitos, but despite my fears, they are usually very small
[2016-07-12 13:31:40] brendens20 : :(
[2016-07-12 13:31:52] johndoe : and we just hit them with this tennis-racket thing that has electric shocks
[2016-07-12 13:31:54] elmorte : johndoe: I was so hoping for a wife joke...
[2016-07-12 13:32:21] johndoe : brendens20: i use bitfinex and bitmex
[2016-07-12 13:32:22] ggwp : johndoe: hehehe, no slippery snakes or scaaary spyders?
[2016-07-12 13:32:32] johndoe : brendens20: to convert locally, i use coins.co.th
[2016-07-12 13:33:35] johndoe : ggwp: i've heard stories of scorpions going into people's houses, but honestly have never seen one. never seen any snakes, but again, i don't go looking for them by hiking!
[2016-07-12 13:34:36] ggwp : johndoe: alright! nice to know again. cya later dude.
[2016-07-12 13:34:42] johndoe : ggwp: and spiders are the nearly same as in california, except they are perhaps a bit larger - but still like the size of a quarter
[2016-07-12 13:34:50] johndoe : ggwp: np, cya soon
[2016-07-12 13:35:00] ggwp : hope your short works out
[2016-07-12 13:35:06] ggwp : :D
[2016-07-12 13:35:30] johndoe : thanks, me too :)
[2016-07-12 13:35:36] elmorte : you get them geckos that eat all the insects? love those bastards...
[2016-07-12 13:35:45] elmorte : Wife can't stand them though
[2016-07-12 13:36:59] johndoe : elmorte: yah, they are cool. at first i was like, wtf are these doing in our house. But now i like them because, yah, they do take out all the insects and they never bother you - they always run away and leave soon enough
[2016-07-12 13:37:53] elmorte : Same, definitely not something I was accustomed to at first...but at the end they're more scared of you then vice versa
[2016-07-12 13:38:25] elmorte : and when they talk to each other they make that funky tapping a coin on the window noise...
[2016-07-12 13:38:32] johndoe : my wife calls them "dinosaurs" lol, but she doesn't mind them
[2016-07-12 13:38:38] johndoe : she just has limited english
[2016-07-12 13:38:40] elmorte : Took me forever to figure out where it was coming from
[2016-07-12 13:38:45] johndoe : and saw jurrassic park 3 with mee
[2016-07-12 13:39:55] johndoe : elmorte: yah, i definitely didn't recognize those sounds either. my wife always thinks i'm bizarre for not knowing simple things like that, hah
[2016-07-12 13:41:01] elmorte : You got your visa & stuff sorted now though? No more visa runs?
[2016-07-12 13:42:01] johndoe : not really. I just checked a few days ago and i've had 11 tourist visas
[2016-07-12 13:42:20] johndoe : and half of those were double entry visas giving me two sets of 3 months
[2016-07-12 13:42:48] elmorte : no spouse visa in Thailand?
[2016-07-12 13:43:14] johndoe : in the early days, i'd go to KL or whatever i happened to be near, but the last half-dozen times, i've always gone to Laos
[2016-07-12 13:43:40] johndoe : there you can pay a bribe of 2-3000 baht to get a double-entry visa
[2016-07-12 13:43:47] johndoe : it helps to be an american.
[2016-07-12 13:43:58] elmorte : That's alright...but it's still a hassle
[2016-07-12 13:44:11] johndoe : but sadly, the last time, they gave me the red-stamp which means this is your last tourist visa
[2016-07-12 13:44:29] johndoe : i knew this day would come, so now i'm planning on getting a education visa and studying the Thai language
[2016-07-12 13:44:42] elmorte : Yeah, that happened to me once coming back from Singapore. "You have 7 days to pack up and go home"
[2016-07-12 13:45:05] elmorte : You really can't get a visa based on your marriage?
[2016-07-12 13:45:12] johndoe : yah, not a good feeling. although i've been pretty damn lucky really
[2016-07-12 13:45:30] johndoe : usually only get 4 or 5 tourist visas
[2016-07-12 13:45:46] elmorte : then change passport? :)
[2016-07-12 13:46:28] johndoe : marriage visas are kind of complicated - you have to get a visa first, and then you can convert it into a marriage visa. But you can't convert tourist visas into marriage visas - only immigration visas like for education or work or diplomats, etc
[2016-07-12 13:46:42] johndoe : so after i study Thai for a few years, ill convert it to a marriage visa
[2016-07-12 13:46:52] elmorte : right...one is like a pass and the other an actual visa
[2016-07-12 13:47:02] brendens20 : @johndoe thanks
[2016-07-12 13:47:46] johndoe : yah, my Laos bribe guy told me to change my passport many times already - he always talks like he is lecturing me, lol. why you not get new passport already?
[2016-07-12 13:47:59] johndoe : but i just ignored it cause i never got the red stamp - although i did get new pages awhile back
[2016-07-12 13:48:00] elmorte : it's funny how renewing the passport works though, don't you think?
[2016-07-12 13:48:14] elmorte : Like, I'm sure they have a digital record of some sort...
[2016-07-12 13:48:17] johndoe : elmorte: yah, you'd think the computer would pick it up, but not here
[2016-07-12 13:48:23] elmorte : Same here
[2016-07-12 13:48:25] johndoe : brendens20: no problem :)
[2016-07-12 13:48:46] elmorte : The only thing I could think of is that there is too much data to be available in real time...
[2016-07-12 13:49:00] johndoe : elmorte: another issue is i'm not legally married. i got married in a ceremony in the village with over 100 people, but i didn't register it
[2016-07-12 13:49:06] johndoe : cause most thai people don't register it
[2016-07-12 13:49:15] elmorte : Yeah...that would do it :/
[2016-07-12 13:49:21] elmorte : Not having a cert
[2016-07-12 13:49:27] johndoe : and... being on the safe side in the event of divorce is always safer
[2016-07-12 13:49:37] johndoe : although things are going really well with us and it's been about a year
[2016-07-12 13:49:44] elmorte : True...but you don't own any assets there though, right?
[2016-07-12 13:50:36] johndoe : nah, illegal to own a home or land - there are complex legal loopholes but the place i'm living in now is her parent's property from many years
[2016-07-12 13:51:10] elmorte : Yeah...I know a bit....you can own a part of a company that owns the property or something like that
[2016-07-12 13:52:04] johndoe : right, but they've got more strict lately and have said some of the loopholes were never intended to be legal and therefore are not legal. the main thing you can do legitimately is buy a condo, but not own the actual building
[2016-07-12 13:52:16] johndoe : but there are no condos out here in the village of course
[2016-07-12 13:52:29] elmorte : :) What made you move there in the first place?
[2016-07-12 13:52:54] johndoe : there are in the local town about 20 mins ago, but i actually like the community lifestyle here - people are very friendly and warm towards me - the only westerner here, and i'm young as well (and white)
[2016-07-12 13:52:56] Mr Blue : Pussy and power
[2016-07-12 13:53:06] johndoe : Mr Blue: haha, true story
[2016-07-12 13:53:17] Mr Blue : ?
[2016-07-12 13:53:51] johndoe : elmorte: well, first i came for an extended holiday - my first time out of the US. i had studied thailand for like a year and i knew i wanted to go here for 3 months.
[2016-07-12 13:54:01] johndoe : but then i met a girl...and that all ended, hah
[2016-07-12 13:54:30] elmorte : that's how they get ya :) Same girl?
[2016-07-12 13:55:13] johndoe : yah, same girl
[2016-07-12 13:55:54] elmorte : nice
[2016-07-12 13:55:59] johndoe : the attention was kind of intoxicating. in the US, im a totally average middle-income young white male. here i'm a rich millionaire handsome stud - or at least thats the perception.
[2016-07-12 13:57:16] johndoe : went from mediocre white chicks with issues to thin/fit thai women with a much better attitude about life
[2016-07-12 13:57:32] johndoe : or at least attitude about life regarding my presence in their life, hah
[2016-07-12 13:58:34] elmorte : yeah, it's amazing when you compare to the life back home
[2016-07-12 13:59:10] johndoe : it really is. really amped up my self-confidence honestly
[2016-07-12 13:59:51] johndoe : and its not like they just want money - although they do like money obviously.
[2016-07-12 14:00:11] johndoe : they also value white skin, hah
[2016-07-12 14:00:44] elmorte : lol...yeah, that's what you meant :p
[2016-07-12 14:00:58] johndoe : nah, they value white skin, money, and most of all, many of them think us foreigners are fun and thai men are not as fun and are often abusive or constantly cheat on them
[2016-07-12 14:01:29] elmorte : yeah, same thing here...they wanna break out of the cultural boundaries
[2016-07-12 14:02:07] elmorte : so it's an easy choice for a lot of them. Even though the cultural differences come very much into play later
[2016-07-12 14:02:16] johndoe : lol can't imagine malaysia's muslim cultural boundaries - those are even harder to break than thai's buddhism
[2016-07-12 14:02:45] elmorte : Only 55% of Malaysia is Muslim, but yeah - what you said
[2016-07-12 14:02:54] johndoe : oh, didn't realize that
[2016-07-12 14:03:29] elmorte : Surprisingly not many ppl do.
[2016-07-12 14:03:44] Roevenger : oh, after reading all of this @johndoe all I can say is becareful haha
[2016-07-12 14:03:48] johndoe : elmorte: yah, the cultural stuff does creep up more later on for sure.
[2016-07-12 14:04:05] Roevenger : It didn't end up well with my malaysian partner
[2016-07-12 14:04:20] elmorte : Roevenger: what happened buddy?
[2016-07-12 14:04:38] johndoe : Roevenger: hah, i knew what i was getting into more or less. and i stayed with her over 3 years before i got married so i made sure to knew her personality really thoroughly as well as her family
[2016-07-12 14:04:47] Roevenger : long story short she was all about money
[2016-07-12 14:05:12] elmorte : Same here...5 years
[2016-07-12 14:05:31] elmorte : Roevenger: light skin ethnicity?
[2016-07-12 14:05:47] Roevenger : no, very native
[2016-07-12 14:05:58] elmorte : ah...that sucks man
[2016-07-12 14:06:16] elmorte : at least you have your BTC
[2016-07-12 14:06:25] Roevenger : she had dated a couple europeans during her life, so probably she got used with the western world
[2016-07-12 14:06:38] johndoe : Roevenger: too many are, i'd guess about 80% of the ones that go for tourists are all about money. i got pretty lucky with my wife i guess - but from the day i met her she was so much more down to earth and honest and empathetic. Most girls here were just about partying and fun with the foreigner with the money.
[2016-07-12 14:07:08] elmorte : and nothing wrong with that :) Just don't marry those ones
[2016-07-12 14:07:22] johndoe : yah, they were fun =D good times
[2016-07-12 14:08:01] johndoe : the lying was the most important thing to me - my wife lied so very little when we met - whereas i lied plenty, especially about money and intentions
[2016-07-12 14:08:15] elmorte : haha...
[2016-07-12 14:08:44] johndoe : i actually came here with my older brother on that same first trip - he met a girl the same month i did
[2016-07-12 14:08:44] elmorte : We were good friends for a long time before we hooked up....knew each other inside out, so no lies left
[2016-07-12 14:09:10] johndoe : but he played it all wrong - he got married on their 1-year anniversary to a gold-digger
[2016-07-12 14:09:20] johndoe : she was so obviously a not-quality girl
[2016-07-12 14:09:20] elmorte : ugh....how's he now?
[2016-07-12 14:09:49] johndoe : and wasn't even hot either! seriously, she just got plastic surgery to redesign her f'ing face - i can't stand her
[2016-07-12 14:09:52] ggwp : back - shorts not looking good :/
[2016-07-12 14:10:05] johndoe : still married, but she drained him of over $250k in 3 years
[2016-07-12 14:10:16] elmorte : kids?
[2016-07-12 14:10:20] johndoe : all his savings and a hell of a lot of credit card debt.
[2016-07-12 14:10:27] johndoe : thankfully no
[2016-07-12 14:10:35] johndoe : well, she has kids from a prior marriage - 2 of them
[2016-07-12 14:10:39] elmorte : then he should gtfo...
[2016-07-12 14:10:52] elmorte : you guys in touch?
[2016-07-12 14:11:20] johndoe : honestly - it's like a doomsday scenario - he is so royally f'd - and i don't know what to do cause he has asperger's and its like he can't see the obvious truth of it all - that she is with him for money
[2016-07-12 14:11:49] elmorte : k...I was gonna ask if he realizes the situation. :(
[2016-07-12 14:12:17] elmorte : That's a tough thing to talk to someone about...
[2016-07-12 14:12:22] johndoe : elmorte: sadly, not much anymore. i just can't take it emotionally. i truly despise her and he has basically catered to her every whim since the day they met - to the exclusion of me and his family
[2016-07-12 14:13:29] elmorte : Pussy & power can do that to you....but you said he has Asperger's....:(
[2016-07-12 14:13:54] johndoe : elmorte: yah, being friends first like your situation is definitely a good way to get to know how they really are.
[2016-07-12 14:14:13] Mr Blue : johndoe: 250k and she's not even give the guy kids, you should find him a better looking one, tempt him with the devil's fruit lol
[2016-07-12 14:14:59] johndoe : Mr Blue: i wish dude, but he's all aspergery for lack of a better word. He's so socially awkward, that he could never like meet a normal girl outside the bar scene
[2016-07-12 14:15:04] johndoe : and even girls in the bar scene have standards
[2016-07-12 14:16:05] johndoe : the only positive aspect of his story is what he did before she met him
[2016-07-12 14:16:23] Mr Blue : johndoe: find him a village girl and set it to, hell even a prostutute if he didn't find out till he leaves the other
[2016-07-12 14:16:27] johndoe : he went on a total sex rampage. he went with over 50 girls in 1 month
[2016-07-12 14:16:54] elmorte : but that's like over 1/day?
[2016-07-12 14:16:55] Mr Blue : johndoe: lmao risky
[2016-07-12 14:17:18] johndoe : Mr Blue: he's married to a prostitute. that wouldn't be an issue. it's just that he has zero charisma or social skills.
[2016-07-12 14:17:20] elmorte : stamina!
[2016-07-12 14:17:32] johndoe : he never had a girlfriend in the US despite being in his early 30s
[2016-07-12 14:17:45] elmorte : Is he in IT?
[2016-07-12 14:17:58] elmorte : No offense @Bitmex_Sam!
[2016-07-12 14:18:23] johndoe : nah, he's no mark zuckerberg type of asperger's candidate. He's dabbled in many things - mostly online poker which he did quite well at actually for awhile
[2016-07-12 14:18:38] elmorte : damn, that's proper gambling...
[2016-07-12 14:19:14] johndoe : but then his gambling instincts took over and he just started increasing the betting limits - while at the same time online poker became a lot harder with tougher competition than the early-2000s boom years
[2016-07-12 14:19:39] Mr Blue : @johndoe well if he's happy fine, just make sure you get some Bitcoin for him, incase she leaves when the money does at least he'll have the last laugh.
[2016-07-12 14:20:47] elmorte : He'd probably like ETH better
[2016-07-12 14:20:59] Mr Blue : Lol
[2016-07-12 14:21:02] johndoe : Mr Blue: i don't think he is particularly happy, sadly. But his finances are so stretched, that she must see the end. I hope that is why she is getting so much of a facial-surgery makeover to find her next victim
[2016-07-12 14:21:24] Roevenger : that's how it starts
[2016-07-12 14:21:25] elmorte : aiyai...Thai women are naturally so pretty
[2016-07-12 14:21:27] johndoe : hah, yah he's more into silver and gold
[2016-07-12 14:22:37] elmorte : But everybody ages....
[2016-07-12 14:22:41] johndoe : elmorte: thats truly the saddest thing from my point of view, lol. if he had stayed with one of the hotties he was with during the first month and he blew all the money on her, i'd tolerate it. But this chick is not even decent looking - she hates how she looks. She has this horrible jawline that is so anti-Thai
[2016-07-12 14:23:01] Roevenger : the signs of women hunting instincts are obvious everytime, the problem is when we men are trapped in the love fantasy, we can't see it
[2016-07-12 14:23:06] elmorte : yikes....he can pick'em, hey
[2016-07-12 14:24:14] johndoe : i know that sounds judgmental, but really i can't see anything redeeming about her personality
[2016-07-12 14:24:37] elmorte : It's just frank...you're allowed to feel that way
[2016-07-12 14:24:41] johndoe : my family hates her even more than i do, but thats another story. On the positive side, it makes me feel like i got really lucky
[2016-07-12 14:25:16] johndoe : shes also an alcoholic and has had her share of ya ba (meth) - so there's that
[2016-07-12 14:25:46] elmorte : she sounds like one of my friend's sister in law....I call her "plastic fantastic".
[2016-07-12 14:25:57] johndoe : Roevenger: attraction definitely blinds men to reality
[2016-07-12 14:26:08] johndoe : elmorte: haha great name
[2016-07-12 14:30:15] johndoe : lol gotta bring back some levity. those first 2 months, he went from being a virgin to having more sexual partners than anyone i knew.
[2016-07-12 14:30:30] johndoe : he'd go to those soapy massage places and always insist on a three-some
[2016-07-12 14:31:03] elmorte : Haha, nice
[2016-07-12 14:31:15] elmorte : Was this BKK or the islands?
[2016-07-12 14:31:17] johndoe : he'd get all excited when he came back to our hotel and insist that i try it out
[2016-07-12 14:31:37] johndoe : i really felt happy for him then. This was in BKK and phuket
[2016-07-12 14:31:42] elmorte : I hope he didn't recommend the girls too...
[2016-07-12 14:32:12] johndoe : lol nah, that'd be "gay"
[2016-07-12 14:32:22] elmorte : My first Thailand trip was to Phuket....2005, 6 months after the tsunami
[2016-07-12 14:32:51] elmorte : Coz of the link to mainland, Phuket rebuilt pretty quickly
[2016-07-12 14:33:03] johndoe : i just never could quite understand why he needed the variety - always moving on to a different girl, even she was happy to go again. i guess it was because he didn't emotionally connect with any of them.
[2016-07-12 14:33:06] elmorte : But places like Phi Phi were still devastated
[2016-07-12 14:33:24] johndoe : yah that tsunami was horrible
[2016-07-12 14:33:42] johndoe : seen some footage in documentaries and just crazy.
[2016-07-12 14:34:41] elmorte : That "not connecting emotionally" part comes with experience too...
[2016-07-12 14:34:57] elmorte : which you say he didn't have though
[2016-07-12 14:36:22] johndoe : what do you mean comes with experience too?
[2016-07-12 14:36:49] elmorte : Can't say I could or would go thru 50 girls in a month even in the peak of my bachelorhood though
[2016-07-12 14:37:21] johndoe : yah and he didn't even try viagra or anything like that - he hates drugs/pills
[2016-07-12 14:37:45] elmorte : Depends on our definition of emotional connection I suppose...I meant more of an emotional attachment. You get over that with experience
[2016-07-12 14:37:58] johndoe : i think it was like an adrenaline rush - all of this he had been preparing for, for like 2 years before he came here
[2016-07-12 14:38:27] elmorte : As in you realize it was just that night and that's it
[2016-07-12 14:38:32] elmorte : And move on
[2016-07-12 14:38:41] johndoe : he kept that part secret though when he talked about why wanted to go to thailand with me. sometimes he said yah, they got some nice girls i think, but he never said, yah i wanna go F every bar girl i see
[2016-07-12 14:39:00] elmorte : haha....was he shy when you were growing up too?
[2016-07-12 14:39:44] elmorte : I'm guessing he didn't give much advice in the way of picking up ladies...
[2016-07-12 14:40:13] johndoe : elmorte: oh i see what you mean. yah, his wife won him over the first week together cause he got really sick from binge-drinking and developed a bad flu/cough. And she kind of nursed him over. A nice gesture to be sure, but she made sure they were staying at a 5-star hotel at the time and she was well-taken care of
[2016-07-12 14:41:01] johndoe : elmorte: hah, yah, ridiculous shy. couldn't even talk to a girl even in high school. he could barely talk to guys. i was actually like his best friend/primary person he could talk to.
[2016-07-12 14:42:20] elmorte : 655
[2016-07-12 14:43:03] elmorte : you closed that long yet?
[2016-07-12 14:43:11] johndoe : thats why i do feel bad. like i've abandoned our bond together. it's just that when he came here, especially after the first few weeks, he would just totally ignore anything regarding his plans with me or take any consideration about me. Like he'd stay out all night, and not come back to our shared hotel by 1pm to check-out. And he wouldn't tell me the next hotel he booked in our name. And his phone would be dead. So i'd wait in the lobby like a dumbass for hours with his bags that i'd had to pack up for him in the hotel room. Stupid shit like that
[2016-07-12 14:43:29] johndoe : you mean closed that short? still net short
[2016-07-12 14:45:08] elmorte : I thought you had a separate long from 655...was wondering how actually unless you had multiple accounts
[2016-07-12 14:45:17] elmorte : or maybe different platform
[2016-07-12 14:45:37] elmorte : Yeah, that sucks...how long ago was that though?
[2016-07-12 14:46:26] johndoe : no, i was $28k short starting around 653 on the initial upswing, and then i reduced my position with a $10k market order long at 655.42. So now i'm still $18k short
[2016-07-12 14:46:40] elmorte : Got it
[2016-07-12 14:47:28] elmorte : So your breakeven is about 651.5?
[2016-07-12 14:49:23] johndoe : i have an account on bitfinex that i have had a nice margin long for a little less than 2 months, since around $430. I use my trading model that i used for futures trading for that account - it tends to just trade trends mostly - not scalp at all
[2016-07-12 14:49:54] elmorte : manual or bot?
[2016-07-12 14:50:04] johndoe : well. the 18k is larger than the 10k, so it'd be a little higher than 651.5, but i don't know with the fees. I plan on holding it until 645 at the least - at least currently thats the plan
[2016-07-12 14:50:36] elmorte : 651.6556 but who's counting :)
[2016-07-12 14:50:37] johndoe : manual
[2016-07-12 14:50:50] johndoe : lol, yah, alright 651.65
[2016-07-12 14:51:30] elmorte : so since you trade trends, how do you know when it's time to get out if you got it wrong?
[2016-07-12 14:53:11] laisee : ... when the trend bends
[2016-07-12 14:53:11] johndoe : well, just to be clear, all my trading on bitmex is purely discretionary and not with a model - i just use fibonaccis and trendlines and over-sold/over-bought breakouts, and stuff like that. But on bitfinex, my trading model simply is always long or short - never cash. And it trades on average about once every 10 days or so
[2016-07-12 14:53:23] elmorte : or how do you know if you got it wrong in first place...I guess
[2016-07-12 14:53:40] elmorte : Ok cool
[2016-07-12 14:53:54] elmorte : laisee: obligatory check-in post :p have a good one bud
[2016-07-12 14:54:17] laisee : elmorte: I am ... Sam Miguel ;-)
[2016-07-12 14:54:26] johndoe : well, it's truly complex and it doesn't really "think" that way - like got it wrong. Whether the position is in profit or in loss isn't too relevant to my model. It does have a stop-market order triggered using the recent low
[2016-07-12 14:54:32] elmorte : Haha, cheers
[2016-07-12 14:54:36] johndoe : san miguel is great :) love that stop and cheap too!
[2016-07-12 14:54:50] elmorte : Pinoy beer ftw!
[2016-07-12 14:54:51] johndoe : love that stuff*
[2016-07-12 14:55:16] laisee : its one thing they got right in the 'pines :-)
[2016-07-12 14:55:30] elmorte : ....and the women, c'mon :)
[2016-07-12 14:55:37] johndoe : san miguel light is my wife's favorite beer by far. For awhile, she would refuse to drink anything else - wouldn't even order a drink if they didn't have it
[2016-07-12 14:56:20] laisee : johndoe: women in phils like Red Horse. Solid stuff ...
[2016-07-12 14:56:24] elmorte : I got all disappointed in light beers once I realized that to reduce calories, they reduce alcohol content :/
[2016-07-12 14:57:22] johndoe : went to the phils a couple times, but i don't recall trying Red Horse
[2016-07-12 14:57:36] johndoe : elmorte: haha yah, i remember when i had that realization as well
[2016-07-12 15:00:00] elmorte : Red horse is like almost 7%. Comes in those ubiquitous red cans...
[2016-07-12 15:00:23] elmorte : I never had it there but a friend brought it back from Manila once
[2016-07-12 15:01:08] johndoe : wow 7%
[2016-07-12 15:01:12] laisee : elmorte: ya, watch out if you are invited to drink red Horse
[2016-07-12 15:01:55] elmorte : Damn, my mistake, we actually did have it in Borocay
[2016-07-12 15:02:45] elmorte : That's right...my bachelors...we were stumbling down a beach a came across this dive place that was still open. And they were drinking red horse
[2016-07-12 15:02:54] elmorte : laisee: damn, you're right
[2016-07-12 15:03:17] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBJ24H`: Buy 11200 @ 68341.0
[2016-07-12 15:03:17] elmorte : Anyway, details are hazy
[2016-07-12 15:03:52] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBTUSD`: Buy 10670 @ 657.90
[2016-07-12 15:04:53] smoker : wasnt me that got rekt haha
[2016-07-12 15:05:17] elmorte : lol, still short?
[2016-07-12 15:05:22] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBTUSD`: Buy 6000 @ 660.11
[2016-07-12 15:05:25] smoker : no i sold long
[2016-07-12 15:05:32] elmorte : nice
[2016-07-12 15:05:35] laisee : shorties got eaten
[2016-07-12 15:05:50] elmorte : ooh...damn...
