This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2016-06-30 04:13:47] 1QaZxSw2 : rapidtrades: by lag do you mean gemini?
[2016-06-30 04:17:42] zanza : Winkevoss ETF = dump hard = priced in
[2016-06-30 05:30:13] Mr Blue : ETF = fake paper bullshit, I pity the fool who invests and then thinks they own Bitcoin
[2016-06-30 05:31:31] Mr Blue : No love you don't own shit, all you own is a paper promise from the winkevoss saying they'll hold the Bitcoin for you lmao
[2016-06-30 05:34:30] germanjew : at best the ETF gives you exposure to price movements while the winkelvi are collecting trading fees
[2016-06-30 05:35:21] Mr Blue : Are investors so retarded, that they can't make their own real Bitcoin paper wallets ?? Possibly.. but I for one would rather hold real Bitcoin I can send spend and trade.
[2016-06-30 05:37:27] Mr Blue : germanjew: or worse trading with other people's coins to manipulate the market, because they're so stupid they accepted a paper promise
[2016-06-30 05:42:24] Mr Blue : Well think I'm going long today, just waiting on a good drop to get in on
[2016-06-30 05:44:41] Mr Blue : Tomorrow is the start of the block reward halving month, as if I wouldn't be going long
[2016-06-30 05:49:55] Mr Blue : Wtf guys I'd like to see 630 ?
[2016-06-30 05:54:02] Mr Blue : The Chinese will not buy the ETF, they still trying to get the gold from the ETFs or w.e futures bullshit America sold them.. so hopefully they'll only buy real Bitcoin.

[2016-06-30 07:26:54] ethexio : Perpetual seems iffy..
[2016-06-30 07:32:52] rapidtrades : how
[2016-06-30 07:39:05] rapidtrades : ethexio: how
[2016-06-30 07:44:31] ethexio : I'm not sure. Just did quick trade, closes higher on a long and upl shows negative. I think.
[2016-06-30 07:45:18] ethexio : It's been a long day, maybe misreading
[2016-06-30 07:47:39] ethexio : Probably misreading
[2016-06-30 07:58:49] BitMEX_Wally : ethexio: If you have closed a position then you do not have any unrealised PNL
[2016-06-30 07:59:14] BitMEX_Wally : You made a profit on that trade and you can see the profit pending in your wallet: https://www.bitmex.com/app/wallet
[2016-06-30 08:00:32] mike1000 : Are there any Android tickers/clients that support BitMEX API?
[2016-06-30 08:01:38] zanza : Chrome :o
[2016-06-30 08:03:14] mike1000 : I tried Chrome. Chart box seems slow and hard to navigate on it. Maybe it's just my phone issues
[2016-06-30 08:03:59] mike1000 : There are tradings apps that run smooth., but they don't support BitMEX
[2016-06-30 08:04:18] BitMEX_Arthur : mike1000: what do you use?
[2016-06-30 08:04:44] BitMEX_Arthur : Tabtrader is working on integrating us but I think they need more push from their users to speed up the integration
[2016-06-30 08:05:06] mike1000 : Yeah, I use TabTrader
[2016-06-30 08:05:15] mike1000 : I'll request bitMEX support for sure
[2016-06-30 08:05:39] BitMEX_Arthur : ok that seems to be one of the most popular, I will make a note of that to chase them a bit more
[2016-06-30 08:07:18] mike1000 : They also lack percent change alerts (only exact price alerts) and 6H time frame on chart, but other than that the app is great.
[2016-06-30 08:07:23] mike1000 : BTW, percent alerts can be set up in Bitcoin Checker app as a workaround, IT also need BitMEX support
[2016-06-30 08:08:13] mike1000 : Bitcoin Checker also needs BitMEX support - a very popular ticker
[2016-06-30 08:08:44] mike1000 : https://github.com/mobnetic/BitcoinChecker It is possible to offer a pull request with integration on their GitHub
[2016-06-30 08:09:57] BitMEX_Arthur : Cool thanks for the feedback
[2016-06-30 08:14:01] mike1000 : Also a feedback about BitMEX: it would be great to be able to issue Trailing Stop Limit orders on frontend (I know they exist in API)
[2016-06-30 08:16:34] BitMEX_Wally : You can submit a trailing stop limit but the limit price is fixed
[2016-06-30 08:16:37] BitMEX_Wally : (via the API)
[2016-06-30 08:17:28] BitMEX_Wally : The limit price is not recalculated based on the trailing offset
[2016-06-30 08:18:48] mike1000 : Yeah, that's just a trigger price, if I don't want to activate the order immediately but when the price goes to my favor.
[2016-06-30 08:20:27] fineregex : BitMEX_Wally: got a suggestion too again. I was the only one trading XBTUSD since >30minutes. Next to marketdepth chart there should be a traded volume over time chart (and/or chart of amout of users online)
[2016-06-30 08:21:01] BitMEX_Wally : As the engine does not support adjusting the limit price of trailing stop orders, we can't expose it on the frontend because it won't do what user's expect
[2016-06-30 08:21:38] BitMEX_Wally : fineregex: There is volume at the bottom of the price chart
[2016-06-30 08:21:58] fineregex : lol, i may be sleepy
[2016-06-30 08:23:27] BitMEX_Wally : Now we support full order book depth on the frontend we will look into a depth chart
[2016-06-30 08:25:08] fineregex : i guess most bitmex activity is USA timezone
[2016-06-30 08:28:13] fineregex : i dont understand why pro.btcc.com (very similar to XBTUSD perpetual) doesnt seem to do (much/any) hedging, when they could even easier than bitmex, through their own spot exchange market - but instead it has even significantly less activity
[2016-06-30 08:28:55] fineregex : i mean (trading-) activity
[2016-06-30 08:29:36] fineregex : (volume and number of trades)
[2016-06-30 09:39:02] mike1000 : How are leaderboard scores calculated? Absolute account PNL or minus withdrawals?
[2016-06-30 09:40:28] BitMEX_Wally : Account PNL ignoring withdrawals/deposits
[2016-06-30 09:45:34] mike1000 : Is it possible to view larger selection of leaders via API? Like, top 100?
[2016-06-30 09:56:21] macios15 : rekt incoming?
[2016-06-30 09:56:32] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBJ24H`: Buy 700 @ 66220.0
[2016-06-30 09:57:51] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBJ24H`: Buy 5920 @ 66846.0
[2016-06-30 09:59:42] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBTUSD`: Buy 1350 @ 650.69
[2016-06-30 10:03:13] justinlooking : how many did he do at 645?
[2016-06-30 10:03:18] justinlooking : looked like a fuckton
[2016-06-30 10:04:07] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBTUSD`: Buy 2201 @ 652.40
[2016-06-30 10:05:12] justinlooking : about 200k by looks of it
[2016-06-30 10:16:07] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETHXBT`: Sell 129 @ 0.01883
[2016-06-30 10:17:21] REKT : Liquidated long on `FCTXBT`: Sell 10 @ 0.002302
[2016-06-30 10:19:36] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETHXBT`: Sell 1116 @ 0.01875
[2016-06-30 10:58:50] zanza : https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/4qk7et/wow_chinese_miners_revolt_and_announce_terminator/
[2016-06-30 11:03:47] RoftheN : Interesting, so what will happen?
[2016-06-30 11:15:42] BitMEX_Wally : Bitcoin to the moon hopefully
[2016-06-30 11:16:40] RoftheN : Why?
[2016-06-30 11:30:57] NukeLaloosh : BitMEX_Wally: if i get rekt but buy/sell it back once it hits the order book, do i have a loss?
[2016-06-30 11:31:50] Mr Blue : RoftheN: if miners show they have the power to evolve Bitcoin and we're not already too decentralised an spread out with no clear head... then Bitcoin can pick and choose future advancements, from other blockchains if needed after code has been proven... however could also be a bad thing, why not there why not activate POS? Would mess with the max supply / currency limit, not sure people would vote for that, but it's a slippery path... so to sum up I just had a rant for no reason lol as I still don't no if will increase or decrease, but I'm going to say increase lol, who knows maybe it won't take another 4 years for next block reward halving before we hit $10,000
[2016-06-30 11:32:27] Mr Blue : Why stop there*
[2016-06-30 11:35:10] RoftheN : But I don't understand what's so bad about Core
[2016-06-30 11:35:18] RoftheN : Didn't they make Segwit?
[2016-06-30 11:36:11] writlarge : Core is great, they're the top developers in the crypto world. I think miners deciding to fork to classic could become very bad news, especially if developers start quitting
[2016-06-30 11:36:40] germanjew : The miners can't screw with stuff like the currency limit (or rather run sw that supports that) because then BTC would tank and they can't mine anymore
[2016-06-30 11:37:22] writlarge : i doubt miners would do that in the first place, they're not evil - they're just not the best people to make complex technical decisions on bitcoin's future
[2016-06-30 11:58:36] germanjew : Remember that a lot of what makes bitcoin work is that there is a majority of good actors in the system, or at least good actors that play by the economic rules
[2016-06-30 12:03:44] Mr Blue : WTF my order just got filled buy 5000 at 60000 but then it changed before my eyes
[2016-06-30 12:04:12] Mr Blue : On Yen market
[2016-06-30 12:05:28] Mr Blue : What's going on here!
[2016-06-30 12:06:41] Mr Blue : If bots made a mistake, so what I was sold to at that price, then market data changed before my eyes lol
[2016-06-30 12:07:53] rullwull : 24 h contract
[2016-06-30 12:08:19] rullwull : it was settled 8 minutes aga
[2016-06-30 12:08:25] BitMEX_Wally : NukeLaloosh: If you get REKT and then hit your own liquidation order you'll still have a loss from trading fees, and loss of partial maintenance margin
[2016-06-30 12:08:31] BitMEX_Wally : Mr Blue: Let me have a look
[2016-06-30 12:09:05] NukeLaloosh : what is the amount of the partial maintenance margin?
[2016-06-30 12:09:11] Mr Blue : Bullshit, I was sold to, all my orders have gone, box came up saying trades had happened, then I never got the contracts
[2016-06-30 12:09:21] Mr Blue : BitMEX_Wally: okay thanks mate
[2016-06-30 12:11:52] rullwull : Mr Blue: if you bought them before 2pm than they age expired
[2016-06-30 12:12:07] rullwull : are expired
[2016-06-30 12:12:21] Mr Blue : rullwull: I never got them, yet box came up saying sold
[2016-06-30 12:12:48] Mr Blue : Trading bots made a mistake, but if sold to me I should of got them
[2016-06-30 12:12:52] rullwull : could hit your orders during settlement
[2016-06-30 12:13:04] BitMEX_Wally : Mr Blue: Your order to sell was filled at 11:48:49 UTC and you were short 50 contracts. Then at 12:00:00 UTC the XBJ24H contract settled at 67315.30
[2016-06-30 12:13:26] BitMEX_Wally : Meaning all positions were closed at that price and the profit/loss paid into your wallet as a CashSettlement transaction
[2016-06-30 12:14:15] BitMEX_Wally : You can see the Trade history including Settlement here: https://www.bitmex.com/app/tradeHistory
[2016-06-30 12:15:05] Mr Blue : BitMEX_Wally: bullshit mate, I had a buy in at 60000 for 5000 contacts because bots was low balling, I watched it get sold to, seen the pop-up then never got the contacts, and after 2 mins was refunded my btc
[2016-06-30 12:15:06] BitMEX_Wally : NukeLaloosh: The maintenance margin varies for each contract, look at the contract specification. For XBTUSD it is 0.50%
[2016-06-30 12:15:16] Mr Blue : This isn't fair market trading
[2016-06-30 12:15:44] BitMEX_Wally : Mr Blue: I am not sure I understand what you mean. XBJ24H settles every day at 12:00 UTC. At settlement all open orders are canceled, and all positions are closed
[2016-06-30 12:18:08] BitMEX_Wally : You had a buy order for 5000 contracts that was open from 11:57:23 UTC until 12:00:00 UTC exactly. It was never filled
[2016-06-30 12:18:28] Mr Blue : BitMEX_Wally: well I'll put a support email in, and head to the forums, but seen as all data was cleared I have no prove, but I'm not stupid I seen what I seen, what happened to my three orders above the bots, one a buy for 5000 at 60000 the orders was placed, filled then changed lol, if was a mistake fair enough, but seems dirty market manipulation, why sell to me lol
[2016-06-30 12:18:51] BitMEX_Wally : No data has been cleared, the history is there
[2016-06-30 12:19:52] Mr Blue : BitMEX_Wally: never filled, so the pop-up was of it cosing? Sorry I only made the orders 10 mins ago... not seen this 24h close your orders thing happen before?
[2016-06-30 12:20:03] BitMEX_Wally : Looking at the Recent Trades (XBJ24H) there were no trades between 11:48:49 and 12:00:00
[2016-06-30 12:20:07] Mr Blue : Closing
[2016-06-30 12:20:21] BitMEX_Wally : You get a popup when orders are canceled
[2016-06-30 12:20:47] hey : is there some popup history / notification history available?
[2016-06-30 12:21:10] NukeLaloosh : thanks Wally. So when the liq order is put on the book, in the case of a liq'd long, the sell is at a lower price than the liq price. does that difference between liq price and the sell order represent 0.5% ?
[2016-06-30 12:21:41] Mr Blue : BitMEX_Wally: it's just my orders was the top three, seemed like I was sold to then never got the contacts, if true I'm really sorry for jumping the gun mate, but would of been nice profit so was mad lol
[2016-06-30 12:24:00] BitMEX_Wally : Mr Blue: No problem, we run a fair market and do not let anyone front run orders
[2016-06-30 12:24:01] hey : could it have been the cancellation popups that tripped you, Mr Blue?
[2016-06-30 12:24:28] BitMEX_Wally : hey: There is not a history of notifications but there is a full history of all trades, orders, executions, etc available
[2016-06-30 12:24:39] hey : k thx
[2016-06-30 12:24:55] BitMEX_Wally : NukeLaloosh: Correct
[2016-06-30 12:25:31] Mr Blue : hey: it could of been, yet at the same time 50 I was short disappeared, so clearly some of the three orders I placed low got sold to, I thought all but never got the contacts lol
[2016-06-30 12:26:31] hey : sounds to me like to short pos going away while the orders get cancelled at the same time, all due to expiry but i haven't experienced one myself so cannot say for sure.
[2016-06-30 12:26:59] rullwull : BitMEX_Wally: would be good to have notifications history as well
[2016-06-30 12:27:06] hey : +1
[2016-06-30 12:27:27] Mr Blue : hey: I wasn't thinking about any 24h thing, I'll keep a close eye on that in the future lol
[2016-06-30 12:27:47] hey : we're all learning
[2016-06-30 12:28:17] Mr Blue : BitMEX_Wally: okay thanks for the support
[2016-06-30 12:28:41] Mr Blue : Sorry guys.... my bad lol
[2016-06-30 12:49:27] rapidtrades : dam bitcoin
[2016-06-30 12:49:51] rapidtrades : who knew it had it in him
[2016-06-30 12:57:34] ayy_lmao : rip this dude walling
[2016-06-30 12:57:36] ayy_lmao : get rekt
[2016-06-30 13:02:06] ayy_lmao : this dude walling so ahrd
[2016-06-30 13:02:35] macios15 : who?
[2016-06-30 13:03:17] sq : stay long guys
[2016-06-30 13:04:00] ayy_lmao : this guy on the sell side
[2016-06-30 13:04:02] ayy_lmao : xbt
[2016-06-30 13:13:07] RSFinance : Do you not have stop orders to open positions?
[2016-06-30 13:13:44] RSFinance : It let me put in the order and then when it was triggered it was rejected.
[2016-06-30 13:17:26] RSFinance : "Rejected: Order had execInst of Close and side of Sell but current position is -xxx"
[2016-06-30 13:17:54] cekseh : Did you have the box ticked that says "close on trigger"
[2016-06-30 13:17:58] cekseh : That would do it
[2016-06-30 13:18:15] kogroken : It's one devious box that
[2016-06-30 13:18:20] RSFinance : oh I do see that box
[2016-06-30 13:18:36] cekseh : Read the balloon tip on that one
[2016-06-30 13:18:40] cekseh : Kinda important
[2016-06-30 13:19:09] kogroken : The balloon should spell out more clearly that it actually causes all other orders to be canceled.
[2016-06-30 13:19:32] kogroken : It's certainly nothing one would expect to be on by default, yet it is ticked by default I believe.
[2016-06-30 13:19:48] kogroken : At least it was when they added it
[2016-06-30 13:20:22] cekseh : It does fairly plainly say that it cancels your other xbt orders
[2016-06-30 13:21:20] cekseh : uhhg I need caffeine
[2016-06-30 13:21:31] cekseh : zombie mode
[2016-06-30 13:22:43] kogroken : It does. It's just counter intuitive, who uses a single stop loss order?
[2016-06-30 13:22:59] kogroken : It will close your other stop loss orders as well, it seems.
[2016-06-30 13:24:42] RSFinance : yeah it shouldn't be on by default
[2016-06-30 13:32:12] kasman5 : i think more upside incoming

[2016-06-30 13:46:58] mbaril : go go go :) rekt more

[2016-06-30 13:54:51] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBJ24H`: Sell 1 @ 68799.0 :punch: :whale:
[2016-06-30 13:59:02] BitMEX_Greg : Seems like some consolidation here
[2016-06-30 14:01:01] mbaril : BitMEX_Greg: hey hey Greg first time I see you :)
[2016-06-30 14:05:58] BitMEX_Greg : mbaril: Heya, been a bit busy recently. Hows it going
[2016-06-30 14:08:21] REKT : Liquidated long on `FCTXBT`: Sell 10 @ 0.002029
[2016-06-30 14:08:44] mbaril : BitMEX_Greg: Going well. Having fun here. Nice place to trade. You are doing a great job.
[2016-06-30 14:11:49] BitMEX_Greg : Great to hear it, let me know if you have any questions
[2016-06-30 14:12:24] subjective : Why is ETH mark price lower than Polo?
[2016-06-30 14:13:32] d_ : Could be lag. Polo's site is lagging like crazy
[2016-06-30 14:15:21] BitMEX_Wally : subjective: the mark price includes the funding rate which is currently negative for ETHXBT
[2016-06-30 14:15:24] d_ : Actually, I take that back. On the ticker bar up top, it seems accurate. But mark price is much lower
[2016-06-30 14:16:12] subjective : Well, this is 0.00008 power than spot price.. going to have a lot of unhappy souls tonight
[2016-06-30 14:17:22] subjective : It means u get marked 5% lower than current spot..
[2016-06-30 14:17:47] BitMEX_Wally : 0.01849/ 0.01841 (Spot vs mark)
[2016-06-30 14:18:15] BitMEX_Wally : less than 0.5% lower
[2016-06-30 14:18:34] subjective : you are right, i missed a digit
[2016-06-30 14:20:01] BitMEX_Wally : the mark price decays towards the spot price, so in 3 hours it will be 0.25% below, and in 6 hours 0% below
[2016-06-30 14:20:56] d_ : BitMEX_Wally: Thanks for that clarification. Makes much more sense now than from when I read it in the docs.
[2016-06-30 14:21:22] macios15 : dump time
[2016-06-30 14:22:51] Tetsuo : pump failed
[2016-06-30 14:28:02] BitMEX_Greg : subjective: You can see the funding rate under the contract details tab
[2016-06-30 14:28:15] mbaril : that was a huge dump
[2016-06-30 14:28:34] Tedy. : So randome
[2016-06-30 14:28:44] Rune : did someone just dump to 650?
[2016-06-30 14:28:50] Rune : wtf
[2016-06-30 14:29:08] Rune : accident?
[2016-06-30 14:29:34] macios15 : jep
[2016-06-30 14:29:34] mbaril : yeah
[2016-06-30 14:29:35] Hawtdawg : Pretty surprised it rebounded so fast
[2016-06-30 14:29:38] macios15 : free money lol
[2016-06-30 14:29:50] Tedy. : and my pos sucked -.-
[2016-06-30 14:29:51] RoftheN : Lol wtf
[2016-06-30 14:29:52] mbaril : Well it was a missclick for sure. Who will dump to 650 for no reason
[2016-06-30 14:29:56] RoftheN : I wish I had some orders
[2016-06-30 14:30:04] Rune : I seen a btc-e accident dump to 100 USD when the price was like 700
[2016-06-30 14:30:13] mbaril : loll OMG
[2016-06-30 14:30:13] Rune : crazy
[2016-06-30 14:30:22] Tedy. : stop loss maybe ? and went wrong

[2016-06-30 14:31:20] Tedy. : I feel sad for you
[2016-06-30 14:31:39] Tedy. : You were going to set price and clicked wrong i guess ?
[2016-06-30 14:31:43] Rune : maybe he can afford it
[2016-06-30 14:31:47] XBTXBTXBT : Yeah really not that big of a deal
[2016-06-30 14:32:02] RoftheN : 200000 usd not big of a deal, you sound rich
[2016-06-30 14:32:20] Rune : he only lost 3 bitcoins
[2016-06-30 14:32:31] XBTXBTXBT : This is a leveraged based website 200k usd is 5k usd
[2016-06-30 14:32:31] Tedy. : XBTXBTXBT: Haha maybe you just have a bigger stack then the rest of us xD
[2016-06-30 14:32:33] Rune : 200000 contracts sold into market
[2016-06-30 14:32:41] Tedy. : or maybe he is in good proffit and just wanted out
[2016-06-30 14:32:59] mbaril : XBTXBTXBT: you can do that whenever you want :P
[2016-06-30 14:33:08] XBTXBTXBT : I made a total of 15 btc dont feel bad fellas it was just 3
[2016-06-30 14:33:12] Rune : I wish I got some of that
[2016-06-30 14:33:57] Tedy. : XBTXBTXBT: Haha cool, gz dude ^^
[2016-06-30 14:35:21] mbaril : XBTXBTXBT: you are buying back you 200k
[2016-06-30 14:35:39] XBTXBTXBT : ofc not
[2016-06-30 14:35:52] Tedy. : That would just be stupid
[2016-06-30 14:36:01] Rune : lol
[2016-06-30 14:36:04] mbaril : ok because there is soem buy :P
[2016-06-30 14:36:07] Rune : sell low buy high
[2016-06-30 14:36:09] XBTXBTXBT : i mean i was closing for a reason i just clicked market
[2016-06-30 14:36:25] Tedy. : Are you on traidingview ? @XBTXBTXBT
[2016-06-30 14:36:30] XBTXBTXBT : no
[2016-06-30 14:37:06] huangyong : 。。
[2016-06-30 14:37:07] Tedy. : Would have been cool to see the grafs you were making tho
[2016-06-30 14:39:44] Rune : it's pretty simple
[2016-06-30 14:41:59] XBTXBTXBT : wonder if the markets gonna start getting irrational
[2016-06-30 14:45:03] Rune : apparently china is gonna miners are gonna fork
[2016-06-30 14:45:09] Rune : to 2mb limit
[2016-06-30 14:45:23] Rune : price should dive
[2016-06-30 14:45:34] cekseh : Are people actually taking that seriously?
[2016-06-30 14:45:40] cekseh : Facinating
[2016-06-30 14:46:18] mbaril : Im curious to see if all china miners go to 2mb what will happen
[2016-06-30 14:47:18] Blargwaffle : Core dump, huh? Impressive.
[2016-06-30 14:47:22] RoftheN : Why price d
[2016-06-30 14:47:30] RoftheN : What's wrong with 2 MB?
[2016-06-30 14:47:44] Rune : noting is wrong with it
[2016-06-30 14:47:49] RoftheN : Then why is core so against it?
[2016-06-30 14:47:57] Rune : but any time there is anything to do with a fork ppl sell
[2016-06-30 14:49:12] mbaril : 2mb is wrong because it will be harder for everyone to operate a node
[2016-06-30 14:49:35] cekseh : There's an entity called blockstream that has a bunch of devs in it's pocket, and it runs counter to their business model to increase
[2016-06-30 14:50:12] mbaril : Just to be clear im not for or against the 2 mb just saying the fact
[2016-06-30 14:50:20] cekseh : Making bitcoin more accessible fucks with their potential profits
[2016-06-30 14:50:36] mbaril : cekseh: I do not agree with you
[2016-06-30 14:50:48] Rune : mbaril: not really
[2016-06-30 14:50:49] mbaril : Bitcoin is suppoce to be decentralised. We already have a mining that become centralised
[2016-06-30 14:50:53] cekseh : mbaril is also sort of correct, but it isn't the insurmountable barrier he seems to think it is
[2016-06-30 14:51:07] mbaril : now if the block are getting to big, no one will be able to have a nodes
[2016-06-30 14:51:10] cekseh : Technically it will take more resources though
[2016-06-30 14:51:12] mbaril : and so centralisation of the node
[2016-06-30 14:51:20] Rune : not every 2mb block will be full right away
[2016-06-30 14:51:25] mbaril : I agree
[2016-06-30 14:51:29] mbaril : but it could be
[2016-06-30 14:51:34] Rune : it wont be
[2016-06-30 14:51:43] mbaril : like I said, im not for or against the 2mb im just saying some fact
[2016-06-30 14:51:44] mbaril : ;)
[2016-06-30 14:52:06] mbaril : There is also the problem of transmission
[2016-06-30 14:52:10] Blargwaffle : I'm for lower fees and a smaller mempool.
[2016-06-30 14:52:15] mbaril : we already have some problem of transmission with 1mb block
[2016-06-30 14:52:16] Rune : harddrives are cheaper now
[2016-06-30 14:52:39] mbaril : its not hte hardrive the problem but the bandwith
[2016-06-30 14:52:57] Rune : dial up?
[2016-06-30 14:53:35] mbaril : ??
[2016-06-30 14:53:39] mbaril : what do you mean
[2016-06-30 14:53:55] mbaril : the problem is the speed of propagation of the block around the world
[2016-06-30 14:54:19] mbaril : I was at scaling bitcoin and blue matt explained very well the problem of propagation
[2016-06-30 14:55:01] d_ : also this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_Internet_connection_speeds
[2016-06-30 14:55:22] d_ : check out china at a whopping avg. 3.7 Mb/s
[2016-06-30 14:57:56] RoftheN : Top 5, not bad
[2016-06-30 14:58:06] mbaril : the problem is not internet speed guys
[2016-06-30 14:58:15] mbaril : you need to understand how blockchain work
[2016-06-30 14:58:43] mbaril : the propagation is important to eliminate orphan block. and to make sure we do not create bad branch
[2016-06-30 14:59:59] mbaril : anyway 1mb or 2mb we need to get higher fee. because if not miners will stop secure the chain
[2016-06-30 15:00:19] Rune : with 2mb we will have more transactions
[2016-06-30 15:00:19] mbaril : fees is suppoce to replace block rewards
[2016-06-30 15:00:23] d_ : But doesn't internet bandwidth play a role in block propagation?
[2016-06-30 15:00:26] Rune : so there will be more fees paid
[2016-06-30 15:00:29] mbaril : more transaction at less fee
[2016-06-30 15:00:47] Rune : for a short time
[2016-06-30 15:00:54] RoftheN : So how do we up the transaction fees?
[2016-06-30 15:00:58] mbaril : d_: yes it play a role but so far internet speed is not the main problem in block propagation
[2016-06-30 15:00:58] cekseh : more transaction at less fee is great
[2016-06-30 15:01:11] mbaril : cekseh: you are thinking only for yourself
[2016-06-30 15:01:12] cekseh : If you want more fees we should just reduce blocksize to 100kb
[2016-06-30 15:01:19] mbaril : miners are the one that secure the network
[2016-06-30 15:01:24] RoftheN : We should just up the transaction fees after 2 halvings, when it actually matters
[2016-06-30 15:01:26] d_ : The way I currently understand it, the problem is that the big miners in China are at a disadvantage because they receive new blocks slowly.
[2016-06-30 15:01:40] mbaril : d_: false
[2016-06-30 15:01:52] mbaril : since they got more than 75% of the mining power they get block faster
[2016-06-30 15:01:55] Rune : after we upgrade the block size then fill up a 2 mb block evantually they will be getting way more in fees
[2016-06-30 15:02:00] mbaril : rest of the world get block slowly
[2016-06-30 15:02:09] d_ : oo. well let me read up on what you guys are saying and catch up on the issue
[2016-06-30 15:02:31] mbaril : Rune: so when 2mb is full we will go to 4mb and so on ?
[2016-06-30 15:02:53] mbaril : we need to find a solution, a real one. instead of just fighting between more space or more fees
[2016-06-30 15:03:17] cekseh : Good enough for now*
[2016-06-30 15:03:24] Rune : yes as the internet scales we will scale bitcoin
[2016-06-30 15:03:28] cekseh : situations change, reevaluation will be needed bro
[2016-06-30 15:03:36] cekseh : You can't make a choice now that will hold forever
[2016-06-30 15:03:54] mbaril : cekseh: yes I do agree with that but goign to 2 mb is only a temporary solution
[2016-06-30 15:04:03] rapidtrades : in case anyone missed it, usd/cnh spiked to 6.70 today before the PBOC sold a crapton into it
[2016-06-30 15:04:09] mbaril : And I prefer to work to find a better solution. segwit is a good start
[2016-06-30 15:04:41] mbaril : we need to review the code and make it clean
[2016-06-30 15:04:48] mbaril : anyway :P nice discussion guys
[2016-06-30 15:05:02] cekseh : 2mb buys bitcoin a (relatively) significant portion of time to find and refine those solutions
[2016-06-30 15:05:15] Rune : 2 mb wont be full for years
[2016-06-30 15:05:22] cekseh : With practically zero negative effect
[2016-06-30 15:05:30] cekseh : Despite the naysayers
[2016-06-30 15:05:34] Rune : and in 4-5 years the internet will be more robust
[2016-06-30 15:06:25] Rune : https://techcrunch.com/2016/06/29/google-backed-undersea-cable-between-us-and-japan-goes-online-tonight/
[2016-06-30 15:06:27] cekseh : And if you think bitcoin will last it's valuation will go up, so long as people think it is useful
[2016-06-30 15:06:36] cekseh : Rune I just read that.... =D
[2016-06-30 15:06:52] cekseh : Big addition to our "series of tubes"
[2016-06-30 15:07:11] Rune : as technology allows we can slowly upgrade the blocksize
[2016-06-30 15:07:24] Rune : 2 mb is possible now so lets do it now
[2016-06-30 15:09:01] BitMEX_Sam : This is a great thing imo
[2016-06-30 15:09:05] cekseh : And nobody is advocating increasing blocksize indefinitely, it is a goodenoughfornow solution though, that only has such negative response for the same reason that people get offended when you question their religion
[2016-06-30 15:09:21] mbaril : we will see what will happen with terminator plan :P
[2016-06-30 15:09:23] cekseh : Close minded predispositions, and the inability to accept there may be another way
[2016-06-30 15:09:38] cekseh : Terminator plan is a farce
[2016-06-30 15:09:55] cekseh : (imo)
[2016-06-30 15:10:08] mbaril : cekseh: ;)
[2016-06-30 15:11:38] laisee : Terminator will be back
[2016-06-30 15:15:45] STRML : IRC bouncer is back up
[2016-06-30 15:15:53] Hawtdawg : The Reddit thread that made the terminator announcement has been deleted as FUD
[2016-06-30 15:16:18] Adura_ : On the censored subreddit.
[2016-06-30 15:16:48] Hawtdawg : https://redd.it/4qleza
[2016-06-30 15:18:06] Rado : nice $30 advance for BTC
[2016-06-30 15:19:14] Hawtdawg : Interesting how BTC is somewhat immune to news these days. Everyone is so used to "the sky s falling"
[2016-06-30 15:19:57] Rado : BTC is a real free market
[2016-06-30 15:20:11] Rado : so it responds based on demand and supply
[2016-06-30 15:20:15] Rado : not like stock market
[2016-06-30 15:21:20] cekseh : Lol
[2016-06-30 15:21:42] cekseh : You will find a lot of people that disagree that bitcoin is immune to news
[2016-06-30 15:22:02] Rune : bitcoin lives on news
[2016-06-30 15:22:20] cekseh : Bitcoiners in particular have a tendancy to do great mental gymnastics to find patterns and cause/effect for bitcoin movement
[2016-06-30 15:22:21] Rune : I guess less so recently
[2016-06-30 15:22:26] cekseh : Other than people just trying to make money
[2016-06-30 15:22:56] cekseh : A guy in china farted, thats why price dumped 10$
[2016-06-30 15:23:43] cekseh : My dog started barking before price went up this morning, and my dog just started barking again
[2016-06-30 15:23:50] cekseh : Thus price is about to jump. Go long.

[2016-06-30 15:34:20] Rado : you can still catch both sides, but don't short when BTC is down :-)
