This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2016-06-17 20:51:58] lockhedge : second one triggered a bot to sell 5000 @ 748.60 at 19:46:41 UTC, but my bot was only affected by the first one
[2016-06-17 20:53:32] Yumi : I seen that flash crash here
[2016-06-17 20:53:33] lockhedge : elmorte: a better coded bot would just have lowered the bid and kept the ask at bitstamp/okc level for the short moment

[2016-06-17 22:24:32] BTCDJS : CaptainDean: 70% of them are gamblers tho so theres that. Trick is to be better than the emotional gamblers

[2016-06-17 22:44:54] Johnster : general... How can we display a tradingview chart here, that is not availble on tradingview. Can we have the embed code?

[2016-06-17 22:53:37] BTCDJS : CaptainDean: If you aren't sure then don't trade. If you don't have a plan then don't have a position. for the past two days I have lost money not following that advice.

[2016-06-17 23:02:51] odieoh : If you're not "Sure?" How Sure can one be trading cryptocurrencies?
[2016-06-17 23:03:41] BTCDJS : odieoh: exactly
[2016-06-17 23:04:03] BTCDJS : so substitute the word sure for confident
[2016-06-17 23:04:20] BTCDJS : how confident can you be?
[2016-06-17 23:04:58] odieoh : Lets go ahead and admit we're just white collar gambling here
[2016-06-17 23:05:01] BTCDJS : substitute the word confident for the word convinced
[2016-06-17 23:05:21] odieoh : I am VERY confident the ball will land on black this time.
[2016-06-17 23:05:44] BTCDJS : it doesn't matter what word you use. its the feeling of knowing
[2016-06-17 23:06:06] odieoh : have you ever had that feeling and been wrong?
[2016-06-17 23:06:28] BTCDJS : knowing that you used a lot of data and put it together to make a decision
[2016-06-17 23:06:54] odieoh : Have you ever had that feeling and knew that you used a lot of data, and been wrong?
[2016-06-17 23:06:58] BTCDJS : yes so after that you do risk management. Stop losses
[2016-06-17 23:07:20] BTCDJS : and you re evaluate
[2016-06-17 23:07:28] odieoh : aka roll again
[2016-06-17 23:07:46] BTCDJS : not quite
[2016-06-17 23:09:27] BTCDJS : you have all this data available that tells you if more people are buying or selling. so you pay attention
[2016-06-17 23:11:50] rapidtrades : odieoh: are u a random walker?
[2016-06-17 23:13:33] micmix : yay, chat colors are back!
[2016-06-17 23:14:54] BTCDJS : micmix: a refresh would've solved that
[2016-06-17 23:15:07] odieoh : I'm a White Walker
[2016-06-17 23:15:12] micmix : BTCDJS: no, it was broken all day yesterday
[2016-06-17 23:15:22] rapidtrades : odieoh: ur a dumb walker
[2016-06-17 23:15:57] BTCDJS : micmix: i had that problem when I logged in. Thought it was a new feature. Refreshed and boom
[2016-06-17 23:16:32] micmix : I guess Sam fixed it today

[2016-06-17 23:19:25] lockhedge : micmix: was your bot affected by one of these mini flash crashes at finex? https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ClLcuZTWYAAKKUV.jpg
[2016-06-17 23:20:36] lockhedge : micmix: there was also some inconsistency between websocket and rest api data
[2016-06-17 23:21:15] mjones : anyone play agar.io
[2016-06-17 23:21:17] micmix : lockhedge: yep, our system switches to rest
[2016-06-17 23:21:31] rapidtrades : rest as in what
[2016-06-17 23:22:31] CaptainDean : rest API
[2016-06-17 23:22:43] rapidtrades : k
[2016-06-17 23:23:08] rapidtrades : noone is hitting my bids on finex...i think a bull is coming
[2016-06-17 23:23:45] micmix : bc finex websocket is still not reliable. they sent "trading engine resync" from time to time and "restarting websocket", you kinda have to use rest in addition
[2016-06-17 23:24:14] rapidtrades : i got that shitty websocket resync several times
[2016-06-17 23:24:29] rapidtrades : also had to refresh few times, quotes froze
[2016-06-17 23:24:30] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah been seeing wrong status messages all day
[2016-06-17 23:24:44] rapidtrades : plus they logged me out for no reason, had to log back in
[2016-06-17 23:24:57] rapidtrades : buggy shit past 2 days
[2016-06-17 23:25:07] BitMEX_Sam : They send one message to start a resync and another to mark the end, but sometimes it never comes
[2016-06-17 23:25:07] micmix : I'm using REST as a primary source for orderbook data and websocket for realtime orderbook changes
[2016-06-17 23:25:29] BitMEX_Sam : From our perspective, not quite sure how this can even happen
[2016-06-17 23:26:32] micmix : BitMEX_Sam: yep, and their "restarting websocket, please reconnect" is a bit stupid. you try to re-connect and get the same message immediately. just drop the connection already
[2016-06-17 23:26:56] lockhedge : i'm also using both but REST was flawed as well, so it's not only a websocket issue https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ClLcuZTWYAAKKUV.jpg
[2016-06-17 23:27:37] micmix : lockhedge: could you copy the timestamp here so I could convert it?
[2016-06-17 23:28:02] micmix : I will check the logs

[2016-06-17 23:44:36] micmix : lockhedge: looks like corrupted data, there were no trades below $750 at that time, and our bot wasn't quoting below $745 either
[2016-06-17 23:51:01] lockhedge : micmix: there was more then one bot selling between $745 and 749 on BitMEX because of this data for some seconds, e.g. mine here at 749.23 `2016-06-17 18:32:37 -1500 758.68 2016-06-17 18:32:04 -1500 749.23 2016-06-17 18:31:57 -1500 758.46`
[2016-06-17 23:51:16] lockhedge : *more than...
[2016-06-17 23:51:53] micmix : was it an ask or executed trade?
[2016-06-17 23:52:16] micmix : oh you mean on BitMEX, never mind
[2016-06-17 23:54:14] micmix : I was talking about finex, don't see how it was possible for asks and bids getting so low without any trades in that range
[2016-06-17 23:59:06] micmix : lockhedge: in any case you need bad data filter that will filter out spikes of more than x% in 10-20 seconds
[2016-06-18 00:02:31] micmix : I pull all quotes if something like that happens and post again after getting couple more data points
[2016-06-18 00:02:56] lockhedge : yes, very likely the data was "just" flawed and there was no 3% flash crash at Bitfinex. but it triggered a 1% flash crash at BitMEX and more bots were affected like this trade 19:46:41 -5000 748.60
[2016-06-18 00:04:45] lockhedge : micmix: i don't want to filter data, but maybe only apply it to bids if only one of the exchanges is moving down so rapidly
[2016-06-18 00:05:05] micmix : I had only one trade at that time: 2016-06-17T19:46:40.318Z BitMEX: filled limit buy order 2000.0000 XBTUSD @ 756.63 id 853492c0-d6df-749f-4c85-35133aadb00a
[2016-06-18 00:07:34] micmix : lockhedge: I understand not wanting to filter the data but selling $10 lower is not good either
[2016-06-18 00:22:34] lockhedge : i neither want to catch a falling knife and buy $10 higher next time when finex crashes and the data is not flawed
[2016-06-18 00:23:31] micmix : lockhedge: if it's a falling knife you will see multiple trades, not just low ask/bid for some weird reason
[2016-06-18 00:26:59] lockhedge : micmix: i don't want to wait for trade data to verify order book data, would lead to high latency e.g. when there is no trade on bitstamp for 1 minute
[2016-06-18 00:27:49] lockhedge : best solution for me would be a filter for asks on sharp down movements and a filter for bids for sharp up movements
[2016-06-18 00:28:38] micmix : yep, that's why I say just pull the quotes and wait for confirmation of sudden drop or spike. it's going to be either bunch of trades or more orderbook data. or you will get normal orderbook data in a few seconds
[2016-06-18 00:30:13] micmix : if you are getting bunch of trade data going lower and you are long, you might even want to sell into other bids
[2016-06-18 00:30:39] micmix : depends on how fast we're going lower

[2016-06-18 00:36:34] lockhedge : micmix: it might be inevitable that i have to do it at some point, but it's kind of an ideological thing that my bot never pulls quotes ;) (and i don't want an external source like finex to be able to have a kill switch for my bot here)
[2016-06-18 00:36:38] wurstgelee : already closed
[2016-06-18 00:37:06] micmix : lockhedge: you have to face the reality at some point
[2016-06-18 00:38:15] micmix : if pulling quotes is against your principles you can move the bids lower and leave asks in place
[2016-06-18 00:43:10] lockhedge : micmix: yes i guess that's the best solution

[2016-06-18 02:18:58] lockhedge : micmix: it still ignores the concept of volatility and instead measures price uncertainty based on the variance of prices of the exchanges

[2016-06-18 02:51:52] lockhedge : micmix: don't forget that its strategy is based on Malkiel's blindfolded monkey before you judge ;)

[2016-06-18 02:53:11] Rado : don't be afraid of judging lockhedge :-)
[2016-06-18 02:55:54] micmix : lockhedge: ok, so BIX is using orderbook data. I was sure it's using trades like all other indexes
[2016-06-18 02:58:44] micmix : I would suggest using orderbook feed instead of getting ask/bid from the ticker feed. ticker is delayed plus bitfinex has wrong data in the ticker from time to time. also you would want to get something similar to impact ask/bid here for like 5-10 btc instead of just top ask/bid.

[2016-06-18 03:01:26] lockhedge : micmix: yes, that would be much better. i should actually use an impact price of the size i'm quote
[2016-06-18 03:04:16] Rado : sizzurp: buy what?
[2016-06-18 03:07:19] micmix : lockhedge: is position_premium your inventory control adjustment? your code is not the easiest to understand
[2016-06-18 03:08:21] micmix : no, it's something else
[2016-06-18 03:15:29] lockhedge : micmix: yes it's the premium (or discount) based on the bot's current position, it's based on the `fill premium` that gets higher when price uncertainty (based on variance/"premium" of the prices) is rising
[2016-06-18 03:16:29] micmix : ok, I see. what's `spread_factor`?
[2016-06-18 03:19:50] lockhedge : a spread factor of e.g. 1.25 means that the spread stays higher than fill_premium*1.25
[2016-06-18 03:42:36] elmorte : Morning fellas
[2016-06-18 03:43:25] elmorte : Is there a place dedicated to discussing bots and their strategies where one could read up?
[2016-06-18 03:45:41] dharmabum : ETH-DAO issue a big beat-up.
[2016-06-18 03:45:58] micmix : elmorte: check out discussions on https://tradewave.net/
[2016-06-18 03:48:15] micmix : though everyone who's trying to sell strategies should be treated with suspicion
[2016-06-18 03:48:19] dharmabum : disc.: bought ETH
[2016-06-18 03:51:55] elmorte : micmix: cheers. Yes I agree, and probably would not want to discuss them publicly, that's why I asked if there even is such a place
[2016-06-18 03:54:40] elmorte : Again no trades in the lead up to funding...
[2016-06-18 03:58:01] Rado : nice site micmix
[2016-06-18 03:59:33] Rado : there are some trades before the funding
[2016-06-18 03:59:35] Rado : buys
[2016-06-18 04:00:19] Rado : wow
[2016-06-18 04:00:37] Rado : I tried to buy, but when the refresh happened the price was $ higher
[2016-06-18 04:00:46] Rado : how are MMs doing this micmix?
[2016-06-18 04:01:00] Rado : 4$ higher
[2016-06-18 04:02:10] ayy_lmao : gotta love that funding pay
[2016-06-18 04:02:15] ayy_lmao : $
[2016-06-18 04:02:20] Rado : yep
[2016-06-18 04:02:51] Rado : it's working very well for people who shorted in the 770s, 760s and 750s
[2016-06-18 04:02:59] ayy_lmao : its nice
[2016-06-18 04:03:41] elmorte : Eh, poor guy that shorted at 731...
[2016-06-18 04:04:23] elmorte : 4 seconds too late
[2016-06-18 04:04:26] Rado : lol
[2016-06-18 04:04:28] ayy_lmao : lol
[2016-06-18 04:06:11] elmorte : I was short for maybe 5 funding period. Just closed it, no idea what's coming up
[2016-06-18 04:06:48] Rado : looking at 2h chart we might be close to another leg up
[2016-06-18 04:07:06] Rado : nice going @elmorte
[2016-06-18 04:07:30] Rado : https://tradeblock.com/markets/bfnx/xbt-usd/2h/
[2016-06-18 04:07:40] odieoh : Who's ready to gamble!!
[2016-06-18 04:08:51] elmorte : odieoh: I'm guessing you are!
[2016-06-18 04:12:02] odieoh : Yaaaa!
[2016-06-18 04:12:54] odieoh : Ok, I'm not ready to gamble, my positions are set. They're just. . good positions for now.
[2016-06-18 04:13:58] odieoh : Why not elvivo? I should make a handle elvivo
[2016-06-18 04:29:59] elmorte : odieoh: I was a teenager at the time :)
[2016-06-18 04:30:46] elmorte : playing text based war MMOs
[2016-06-18 04:33:37] elmorte : So is funding already in the mark price? It says nothing in the doc.
[2016-06-18 04:35:18] micmix : elmorte: yes, it is
[2016-06-18 04:35:33] elmorte : micmix: pro-rated?
[2016-06-18 04:36:28] micmix : yes, funding premium is decaying for 8 hours and becomes 0 when the funding is paid
[2016-06-18 04:36:51] elmorte : micmix: Thanks for the confirmation
[2016-06-18 04:53:39] BitMEX_Wally : The fundingRate is annualised and use as the fairBasisRate: https://www.bitmex.com/app/fairPriceMarking
[2016-06-18 05:09:49] elmorte : BitMEX_Wally: There isn't a single mention of funding rate in the doc
[2016-06-18 05:10:22] elmorte : It's probably legacy from pre-swap
[2016-06-18 05:16:54] BitMEX_Wally : https://www.bitmex.com/app/swapsGuide#position-marking
[2016-06-18 05:27:24] elmorte : There it is! Cheers :)
[2016-06-18 05:27:42] elmorte : Sorry, it's a bit of a maze navigating the docs
[2016-06-18 05:43:21] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETHXBT`: Sell 400 @ 0.01892
[2016-06-18 05:53:13] micmix : BitMEX_Wally: have to update the guide, it refers to daily funding and 24 hour intervals
[2016-06-18 06:06:06] REKT : Liquidated short on `ETHXBT`: Buy 13 @ 0.01877
[2016-06-18 06:08:07] BitMEX_Wally : micmix: Good point, thanks
[2016-06-18 06:27:21] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETHXBT`: Sell 348 @ 0.01833
[2016-06-18 06:37:58] odieoh : elmorte; soy elvivo sinto muito
[2016-06-18 07:20:10] Mr Blue : Morning guys
[2016-06-18 07:22:15] Mr Blue : I got to set off to Bulgaria this afternoon, but going to take my tablet with me, hopefully be able to get some trading done on a pedal boat with a joint in one hand, BitMex in the other lol
[2016-06-18 07:23:42] 1QaZxSw2 : hey if i got 100 btc and want to hedge against a downside, how many contracts of swap should i short?
[2016-06-18 07:23:55] BitMEX_Wally : 100 Bitcoin worth
[2016-06-18 07:24:27] 1QaZxSw2 : so i when it says order value: 100 xbt?
[2016-06-18 07:24:31] micmix : 74711
[2016-06-18 07:24:46] Mr Blue : 1QaZxSw2: erm use like 10 BTC on x10 or 5 BTC on x25 if feeling risky
[2016-06-18 07:24:46] 1QaZxSw2 : micmix: thanks
[2016-06-18 07:25:18] 1QaZxSw2 : right, i think i can do 5 btc 25x
[2016-06-18 07:26:09] micmix : 1QaZxSw2: just don't do it all at once
[2016-06-18 07:26:24] 1QaZxSw2 : its only 3700 contracts
[2016-06-18 07:26:30] 1QaZxSw2 : at 25x
[2016-06-18 07:26:48] BitMEX_Wally : Leverage does not change the value of the contracts
[2016-06-18 07:27:00] micmix : no, the order size should be 75k contracts
[2016-06-18 07:27:08] 1QaZxSw2 : oh, i see
[2016-06-18 07:27:17] 1QaZxSw2 : ya 74K is quite a bit
[2016-06-18 07:27:50] Mr Blue : 1QaZxSw2: you want like $100,000 in contacts, will cost a little less maybe 4 BTC on x25
[2016-06-18 07:27:56] BitMEX_Wally : Place a limit order around 744 and I'm sure it will be eaten
[2016-06-18 07:28:40] 1QaZxSw2 : right, but i would enteron a fomo up of course
[2016-06-18 07:28:47] micmix : and use lower leverage or you'll get liquidated quickly
[2016-06-18 07:28:49] 1QaZxSw2 : probably near recent high
[2016-06-18 07:29:12] 1QaZxSw2 : micmix: i was thinking 5x maybe 10x
[2016-06-18 07:29:27] 1QaZxSw2 : if i have to go with 75k
[2016-06-18 07:29:30] micmix : 5x is pretty safe
[2016-06-18 07:29:52] micmix : but you might need to add more margin later
[2016-06-18 07:30:13] 1QaZxSw2 : my guess is all the ether money will move into btc, taking us to 850 or so
[2016-06-18 07:30:47] 1QaZxSw2 : and then you know know the drop.... this seems to easy, buy every dip. thats when it stops working and drops > 50%
[2016-06-18 07:31:10] 1QaZxSw2 : panic selling/panic buying
[2016-06-18 07:32:07] 1QaZxSw2 : btw, anyone got 50 million recently? i wont tell
[2016-06-18 07:33:34] 1QaZxSw2 : i think i should keep selling as we go up, there is no way i can sell 75k at the top, it will drop in seconds
[2016-06-18 07:35:51] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETHXBT`: Sell 50 @ 0.01744
[2016-06-18 07:37:18] Mr Blue : 1QaZxSw2: why not do x5 mate, then if it goes up $80 you won't get REKT, start shorting at times x5 then if goes up to 800 you can short more to higher your entry and then go x10 / x25 if you like
[2016-06-18 07:37:54] Mr Blue : Lol times x5, I meant just x5
[2016-06-18 07:39:36] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETHXBT`: Sell 1500 @ 0.01705
[2016-06-18 07:44:11] ayy_lmao : y is eth/xbt calculator ROE% messed up
[2016-06-18 07:44:28] ayy_lmao : it show the correct profit loss bus % is whack
[2016-06-18 07:48:01] rapidtrades : weeeee sheter back at 17
[2016-06-18 07:52:02] Mr Blue : 1QaZxSw2: you've convinced me to try shorting today, well not just you sell side is greater than buy on fiñex, so looks like we've peaked till block reward halving, I don't have bear balls like you though, I'll probably just short few k
[2016-06-18 07:53:06] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETHXBT`: Sell 2 @ 0.01714 :punch: :whale:
[2016-06-18 07:54:55] Mr Blue : rapidtrades: what you mean Fiaterium.
[2016-06-18 07:56:02] Mr Blue : rapidtrades: I won't be happy till it hits LTC price lol, but probably won't happen
[2016-06-18 08:00:44] rapidtrades : sure it can
[2016-06-18 08:09:10] NukeLaloosh : funding rate on eth projected to go to negative tomorrow
[2016-06-18 08:09:47] BTCDJS : I have invested in REP Augur. built on ethereum. This morning it just dawned on me. Im probably REKT
[2016-06-18 08:10:35] Mr Blue : rapidtrades: I think if they're not pushing a fix for 23 days, ETH still has another 10 days of down trend at least, or should do in a market where most the coins aren't held buy a few big players... but I've been surprised before, people kept chucking money in doge when was obviously going only one direction long term lol
[2016-06-18 08:11:25] NukeLaloosh : has any of this debacle hit mainstream news yet?
[2016-06-18 08:15:12] tscha : which debacle? code is law, the mistake was in the code so it was correct - everything working as intented
[2016-06-18 08:19:18] ayy_lmao : yah, fucked up situation there
[2016-06-18 08:19:27] ayy_lmao : DAO 'too big to fail"
[2016-06-18 08:19:30] ayy_lmao : bailout
[2016-06-18 08:19:33] NukeLaloosh : tscha: agreed. they left the proverbial keys to the safe under the doormat. the question is public perception and price effect in the very near term
[2016-06-18 08:20:19] Mr Blue : Damn guys somebody bash founded I'm not signed in to accounts, but they did a post 11 hours ago, saying Bitcoin an Eth both made gains, as if they didn't know Eth was dropping like a stone
[2016-06-18 08:20:29] Mr Blue : Coin desk
[2016-06-18 08:21:26] tscha : investors should have seen the bug in the DAO code before investing so their fault being n00b cod3rz - appropriate wealth distribution
[2016-06-18 08:21:34] tscha : re*distribution
[2016-06-18 08:22:23] BTCDJS : tscha: 90% of investors don't read code
[2016-06-18 08:22:42] Mr Blue : Zero hedge has reported on the ETH news, Forbes just reported on the Bitcoin lightning network, as for more mainstream news, I've not seen anything, but it's possible lol
[2016-06-18 08:22:44] BTCDJS : infant 99%
[2016-06-18 08:22:47] NukeLaloosh : nothing actually illegal about the exploit from what i've seen
[2016-06-18 08:23:07] BTCDJS : I don't ask to see the code for windows before I buy
[2016-06-18 08:23:13] tscha : I am being sarcastic...
[2016-06-18 08:23:58] BTCDJS : tscha: well you are not doing a very good job at it
[2016-06-18 08:24:01] BTCDJS : lol
[2016-06-18 08:25:13] ayy_lmao : lol that wont work it court of law
[2016-06-18 08:25:14] ayy_lmao : still an attack
[2016-06-18 08:28:14] rapidtrades : yeah i doubt that derfence is gonna fly :)
[2016-06-18 08:28:51] rapidtrades : still bribing the hacker would've been the best soultion imo...they could throw him a bone of 1-5 mil..cost will now be much greater
