This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2014-12-02 12:21:10] BitMEX_Sam : We're listed at https://www.crowdcurity.com/
[2014-12-02 12:21:12] goat : That's cool, I just figured I would ask :)
[2014-12-02 12:21:21] BitMEX_Sam : Paid out in BTC. :)
[2014-12-02 12:21:39] goat : I have seen people on reddit get bounties for stupid errors in the past, its always worth asking for btc :)
[2014-12-02 12:21:49] goat : If I see anything security related I will definitely let you know though.
[2014-12-02 12:21:54] BitMEX_Sam : Thanks, I appreciate that
[2014-12-02 12:22:12] BitMEX_Sam : Back in beta the program was active, now we receive very few reports
[2014-12-02 12:22:29] BitMEX_Sam : We've really locked the platform down since then
[2014-12-02 12:22:43] goat : Nice, let's hope it stays that way lol
[2014-12-02 12:24:00] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah. We have a lot of layers on the backend, and we hold all customer funds in multsig wallets
[2014-12-02 12:24:10] BitMEX_Sam : even your deposits are multisig, which very few exchanges do
[2014-12-02 12:24:16] goat : I saw that
[2014-12-02 12:27:02] goat : Keep up the great work, I'll be back in a bit
[2014-12-02 12:27:29] BitMEX_Sam : Thanks, see you around.
[2014-12-02 13:20:16] goat : BitMEX_Sam: under instrument details at the bottom of the screen, under settle currency... should it be XBT
[2014-12-02 13:20:19] goat : not XBt
[2014-12-02 13:20:59] BitMEX_Sam : It's XBt (Satoshis), you multiply the settleCurrency by the multiplier and the price.
[2014-12-02 13:21:25] BitMEX_Sam : So a single contract of XBTZ14 right now is 1000 Satoshis * 386.56
[2014-12-02 13:36:17] BitMEX_Wally : All accounting is done in Satoshis (the smallest unit of Bitcoin).
[2014-12-02 14:21:21] goat : BitMEX_Sam: Ok cool thank you. I am not used to anything other than btc :)
[2014-12-03 02:54:50] BitMEX_Arthur : morning asia
[2014-12-03 19:39:05] BitMEX_Sam : Evening, everyone
[2014-12-03 19:39:48] BitMEX_Sam : We've been seeing some good volume on XBTH15
[2014-12-03 21:07:50] goldfx : good morning - where are you guys geographically personally located?
[2014-12-04 01:08:03] BitMEX_Wally : goldfx: Morning, we're based in Hong Kong
[2014-12-04 01:10:14] kevinzbuttercoin : hey guys
[2014-12-04 01:10:22] kevinzbuttercoin : where do you usually go to buy or sell spot
[2014-12-04 01:12:12] BitMEX_Wally : A lot of us use Bitfinex
[2014-12-04 01:12:19] BitMEX_Wally : Indeed, our futures reference Bitfinex for their settlement price
[2014-12-04 01:24:34] notisis : How many futures contracts represents 1 BTC? I know i've read this before, but having trouble finding contract size
[2014-12-04 01:24:45] notisis : I really think it should be in the FAQ. It's literally the most important thing.
[2014-12-04 01:24:52] kevinzbuttercoin : well if you guys are interested, Buttercoin just launched open sign ups. we have good liquidity, narrow spreads, 0% trading fees and quick settlement (2-3 days) bank transfer or (0-1 day) wires
[2014-12-04 01:25:11] kevinzbuttercoin : currently supporting US customers with US bank accounts only
[2014-12-04 01:25:44] BitMEX_Arthur : notisis: the issue is that for this chain 1 xbt is not fixed
[2014-12-04 01:25:46] BitMEX_Arthur : but varies with the price
[2014-12-04 01:26:03] BitMEX_Arthur : if you put an order into the order controls panel it will show you the gross value
[2014-12-04 01:27:00] BitMEX_Arthur : but for XBTZ14 about 270 contracts equals 1 xbt
[2014-12-04 01:28:20] notisis : so as the price of btc goes up, it requires more futures to equal 1 btc?
[2014-12-04 01:28:25] notisis : and vice versa?
[2014-12-04 01:29:14] notisis : Can you at least make the formula more public?
[2014-12-04 01:29:40] BitMEX_Arthur : where would you like to see it?
[2014-12-04 01:29:58] BitMEX_Arthur : we have it listed in the documents but that is not working cause people keep asking
[2014-12-04 01:47:18] notisis : in the faq
[2014-12-04 01:48:01] rhk : maybe have a link from the 'selected contract' panel to the contract spec
[2014-12-04 01:48:06] notisis : i also really think you should increase the futures contract size. Like, by a factor of 30 or more.
[2014-12-04 01:48:33] notisis : I know it "shouldn't" matter, but it does. People have a way of benchmarking to certain values
[2014-12-04 01:48:43] notisis : nobody's coming on here to hedge .02 bitcoins.
[2014-12-04 01:49:37] rhk : some people like to punt 0.02 btc tho
[2014-12-04 01:50:59] notisis : do they though? and should the exchange cater to them?
[2014-12-04 01:51:27] notisis : people just aren't comfortable making a market in 2,700 contracts....even if that's only 10 bitcoins
[2014-12-04 01:51:33] notisis : it's just a mental thing.
[2014-12-04 01:59:22] rhk : BitMEX_Arthur: i'm seeing wallet balance = "NaN".. ill send a screenshot
[2014-12-04 02:04:35] BitMEX_Wally : rhk: We fixed that issue yesterday, was your screen open for a while?
[2014-12-04 02:07:19] BitMEX_Arthur : notisis: we hear you we are going to be launching another futures chain next week XBU that will be worth $100, and we are talking about increasing the multiplier for the XBT chain
[2014-12-04 02:14:23] rhk : BitMEX_Wally: just refreshed a few mins ago
[2014-12-04 02:14:33] rhk : after a second refresh it was ok again
[2014-12-04 02:14:55] BitMEX_Wally : rhk: Ok, must be a different bug. Thank you for reporting it.
[2014-12-04 02:15:10] rhk : could be something cached in the browser i guess
[2014-12-04 02:15:14] rhk : i'll let you know if i see it again
[2014-12-04 02:17:52] BitMEX_Wally : notisis: Thank you for your feedback, we'll add a link to the contract specification from the Selected Contract widget.
[2014-12-04 02:21:40] notisis : appreciate it
[2014-12-04 02:26:48] rhk : BitMEX_Wally: maybe merge 'futures contract formulas' and 'futures trading guide'
[2014-12-04 02:27:01] rhk : the actual specs are on the page called 'futures trading guide' which is confusing
[2014-12-04 02:27:37] rhk : i think it would be better to have a separate page for each contract, as per ICBIT
[2014-12-04 02:30:05] BitMEX_Wally : Agreed
[2014-12-04 03:00:58] rhk : another suggestion would be to modify the order entry panel to allow you to set a BTC notional.. and have it calculate #contracts from that
[2014-12-04 03:06:40] BitMEX_Wally : The problem with that is that the number of contracts would not be fixed, so if you bought 1 XBT notional, and the price went up 10% and you sold 1 XBT notional you wouldn't be flat
[2014-12-04 03:09:04] BitMEX_Wally : We're having these discussions internally to work out how best to provide this feature
[2014-12-04 03:13:53] rhk : i think you just need to be careful what you call it. 'current notional' maybe or 'entry notional'.. something like that
[2014-12-04 03:14:59] BitMEX_Wally : Maybe you could type "1 XBT" into the quantity box and it will get converted instantly to 270 contracts
[2014-12-04 03:15:07] BitMEX_Wally : So you always click Buy /Sell with a specific number of contracts
[2014-12-04 03:15:32] BitMEX_Wally : Then we could support "500 USD" and other notionals
[2014-12-04 03:41:18] rhk : well you already have the 'gross value' field.. you just cant set the value there
[2014-12-04 05:31:23] void : 1contract=1$?
[2014-12-04 05:32:48] BitMEX_Wally : void: When we list our XBU future it will be 1 contract = 100 USD
[2014-12-04 05:34:32] void : I like that one.
[2014-12-04 05:34:43] void : So XBU contract will be fixed leverage?
[2014-12-04 05:34:43] BitMEX_Wally : :)
[2014-12-04 05:34:54] void : and XBT is not?
[2014-12-04 05:35:04] BitMEX_Wally : The margin requirements will be the same
[2014-12-04 05:35:50] BitMEX_Wally : One contract of XBT14 is worth 380 * 0.00001 = 0.00380 XBT
[2014-12-04 05:36:30] BitMEX_Wally : One contract of XBUZ14 will be worth 100 / 380 = 0.2631 XBT
[2014-12-04 05:36:46] BitMEX_Wally : But as the price goes up and down, that XBT will always be worth 100 USD
[2014-12-04 05:37:08] void : is xbt just like 796?
[2014-12-04 05:37:17] BitMEX_Wally : Yes
[2014-12-04 05:37:17] void : and xbu just like okcoin?
[2014-12-04 05:37:27] BitMEX_Wally : Yes
[2014-12-04 05:38:06] BitMEX_Wally : But OKCoin has fixed USD size contracts, yet you have to enter orders using a XBT notional, and the order book is in contracts
[2014-12-04 05:38:10] BitMEX_Wally : So it's really really confusing
[2014-12-04 05:38:14] void : But the xbt volume is so large.
[2014-12-04 05:39:26] BitMEX_Arthur : void: We hope traders such as yourself will arbitrage btw the two
[2014-12-04 05:40:14] void : sure. But if the size is bigger,I will like it more.
[2014-12-04 05:41:04] BitMEX_Wally : Hah and massive spreads you'd like too?
[2014-12-04 05:41:41] BitMEX_Arthur : And 0 fees :)
[2014-12-04 05:41:56] void : and what's mean of calendar spread contract.
[2014-12-04 05:42:47] BitMEX_Arthur : It's the difference in price between two maturities
[2014-12-04 05:43:12] BitMEX_Arthur : and you can roll open positions between maturities easier and cheaper
[2014-12-04 05:45:14] BitMEX_Wally : We have plans to add a "Roll" option against each user's positions. This will automatically submit an order to buy the calendar spread
[2014-12-04 05:45:14] void : i see.
[2014-12-04 05:48:00] void : hope you can make chinese version quickly and have a promote in china.
[2014-12-04 05:58:21] void : wallly XBU will always be worth 100usd? not XBt?. XBT should base on bitcoin it self?
[2014-12-04 06:04:25] BitMEX_Wally : XBU will always be worth 100 USD but it is settled in XBT, so if you are long as the price goes up, you get more XBT
[2014-12-04 06:07:48] void : usd chain xu chain xbt chain what's the diffrence.. missunderstand....
[2014-12-04 06:08:49] BitMEX_Wally : XBT is a quanto contract, meaning it is quoted in USD but settled in XBT
[2014-12-04 06:09:13] BitMEX_Wally : XBU is a inverse priced futures contract
[2014-12-04 06:10:17] BitMEX_Wally : XBU is better for hedgers, let me give you an example
[2014-12-04 06:11:15] BitMEX_Wally : If you buy 1 contract at 400 USD, this will be worth 100 USD or 0.25 XBT
[2014-12-04 06:11:28] BitMEX_Wally : If the price goes up to 500 USD
[2014-12-04 06:11:47] BitMEX_Wally : Your 1 contract will be worth 100 USD or 0.20 XBT
[2014-12-04 06:12:17] BitMEX_Wally : But you will have a positive PNL of 25 USD (or 0.05 XBT)
[2014-12-04 06:32:00] void : XBU=xu?
[2014-12-04 06:32:13] void : what about USD?
[2014-12-04 06:33:23] BitMEX_Wally : XBU is just an inverse view onto the USD chain. We're not going to bother with the USD chain
[2014-12-04 06:35:10] void : so XBU=USD how about xu?
[2014-12-04 06:35:52] BitMEX_Wally : XBU does not equal USD
[2014-12-04 06:36:17] BitMEX_Wally : XBUZ14 will be a contact settled against XBT/USD but with fixed USD contract sizes
[2014-12-04 06:36:54] BitMEX_Wally : XBTZ14 is a contract settled against XBT/USD but with a fixed multiplier to quanto it into XBT
[2014-12-04 06:37:12] BitMEX_Wally : USDZ14 will not be listed
[2014-12-04 06:37:22] BitMEX_Wally : Not sure where you've seen xu
[2014-12-04 06:37:37] void : in your refrence.
[2014-12-04 06:38:06] void : XU chain.
[2014-12-04 06:38:22] BitMEX_Wally : Ahh my apologies
[2014-12-04 06:38:25] BitMEX_Wally : That needs updating
[2014-12-04 06:38:29] void : ..................
[2014-12-04 06:38:41] void : Seem XU chain is better than xbt chain.
[2014-12-04 06:38:49] BitMEX_Wally : XU chain is for when we take USD deposits
[2014-12-04 06:38:50] void : it base on 0.01..
[2014-12-04 06:39:07] BitMEX_Wally : We don't currently support USD deposits and withdrawals via a bank
[2014-12-04 06:39:22] void : ok.So you can update the refrence.
[2014-12-04 06:39:36] BitMEX_Wally : Yes, thank you!
[2014-12-04 06:40:33] void : Also usd chain in the reference is 10$ now.
[2014-12-04 06:41:51] BitMEX_Wally : Yes, it's all academic until we launch the products
[2014-12-04 06:44:45] void : And last question .When you will open 10x leverage.
[2014-12-04 06:45:22] BitMEX_Wally : Our Chief Risk Officer is analysing the data
[2014-12-04 10:15:20] void : can you add bfx price on the top of orderbook?
[2014-12-04 12:49:44] BitMEX_Arthur : void: on the todo list
[2014-12-04 13:20:12] mlg5867 : are you thinking of adding a confirm button to people who accidentally fat finger and press Sell instead of buy? I put a sell order in that was quite a bit lower than spot
[2014-12-04 13:40:34] BitMEX_Arthur : mlg5867: at the moment we have fat finger protection in the limit up and down, if we get more requests for a cfm box pre trade we will think about adding that
[2014-12-04 13:43:35] mlg5867 : yeah i was thinking only if a bid is greater than the lowest ask, and vice versa
[2014-12-05 01:21:40] BitMEX_Wally : Good morning Asia
[2014-12-05 02:18:06] BitMEX_Arthur : XBTH15 Fresh Arb of $22 take a look
[2014-12-05 02:24:21] BitMEX_Wally : Against XBTF15?
[2014-12-05 02:24:40] BitMEX_Arthur : spot
[2014-12-05 02:24:59] BitMEX_Arthur : $367 Bitfinex, XBTH15 bid at $389
[2014-12-05 02:25:08] BitMEX_Arthur : $22 fresh arb on the table
[2014-12-05 02:25:45] BitMEX_Arthur : these indian brokers on the nifty used the term fresh arb for when future is in contango, and reverse arb for when in backwardation
[2014-12-05 02:25:48] BitMEX_Arthur : i kinda like it
[2014-12-05 10:31:03] mlg5867 : i was thinking i should take advantage of it, then i realised it's my bid
[2014-12-05 10:31:45] BitMEX_Sam : mlg5867: :D
[2014-12-05 13:12:41] cumberland : Clicking "Save as CSV" on my Trade History does nothing
[2014-12-05 13:12:55] BitMEX_Sam : cumberland: Looking into it
[2014-12-05 13:19:58] BitMEX_Sam : cumberland: Please refresh, it's fixed. Thanks for the report
[2014-12-05 13:50:27] rhk : nice to see the new contract specs
[2014-12-05 13:55:02] rhk : recent trades chart seems broken.. let me know if you need a screenshot
[2014-12-05 13:57:22] BitMEX_Sam : rhk: Looks good here, what are you seeing?
[2014-12-05 13:57:53] BitMEX_Sam : I just updated the chart lib yesterday, it had a bad IE bug - looked good on everything I tested though
[2014-12-05 14:55:02] rhk : i sent you a screenshot
[2014-12-05 14:55:11] rhk : btw, are there no sellers in Jan?
[2014-12-05 14:55:51] rhk : API is showing one offer at $380.56, but website doesnt show any offers at all.. not sure if some issue with my API connection
[2014-12-05 15:03:21] BitMEX_Sam : rhk: Thanks, got the screenshot, does that clear up if you refresh?
[2014-12-05 15:04:00] BitMEX_Sam : re: january, I see a decent orderbook, can you send a screen of that too?
[2014-12-05 15:05:05] rhk : ok.. there are orders there now
[2014-12-05 15:43:56] rhk : BitMEX_Sam: trades chart is always like that, even after refresh
[2014-12-05 15:44:04] rhk : was working fine before tho
[2014-12-05 15:48:46] BitMEX_Sam : rhk: Could you make sure you're running the latest Chrome?
[2014-12-05 16:02:00] rhk : BitMEX_Sam: seems better after restart & update
[2014-12-05 16:02:07] BitMEX_Sam : Great
[2014-12-06 02:51:55] BitMEX_Wally : I see that someone is testing out liquidbot-1.0 on XBTZ14
[2014-12-07 10:39:50] mlg5867 : hi what do you think i'd have to bid on XBTH15 to get filled on50k contracts. the larger asks seem to have gone away
[2014-12-07 10:40:40] BitMEX_Sam : mlg5867: Our lead market maker doesn't quote on weekends - the liquidity will be back tomorrow
[2014-12-07 10:41:31] BitMEX_Sam : We are working on filling in those gaps.
[2014-12-07 10:50:15] mlg5867 : ok that makes sense, i forget that other people take breaks from bitcoin :) thanks
[2014-12-07 10:53:15] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah, it's enough capital that it generally needs to be watched by a human while it's on the market, although we do what we can to help make it safe to automate
[2014-12-07 11:32:36] BitMEX_Arthur : mlg5867: offer for ur size at 400
[2014-12-07 11:32:49] BitMEX_Arthur : i can check if the mm has an axe in a shorter maturity at a better level
[2014-12-08 04:05:32] joequant : hi ho
[2014-12-08 04:05:44] BitMEX_Arthur : hey
[2014-12-08 04:05:47] BitMEX_Arthur : take a look at XBTH15
[2014-12-08 04:06:07] BitMEX_Arthur : nice juicy bid there for some spot vs. fut arb
[2014-12-08 04:50:00] joequant : heh. heh. heh.
[2014-12-08 09:56:30] Harry931 : Arthur you still about?
[2014-12-08 09:57:57] BitMEX_Wally : Harry931: Arthur will be online later
[2014-12-08 09:58:30] Harry931 : ok im sure you can hel p also
[2014-12-08 09:58:57] Harry931 : do i get delivery of the btc from a buy at the end of contract?
[2014-12-08 09:59:13] Harry931 : or just the difference in spot
[2014-12-08 10:02:16] BitMEX_Wally : These are cash settled futures, but settled in Bitcoin
[2014-12-08 10:02:57] Harry931 : so no delivery then?
[2014-12-08 10:03:44] BitMEX_Wally : Not as such
[2014-12-08 10:05:00] BitMEX_Wally : Doesn't really make sense for futures that are settled and margined in Bitcoin
[2014-12-08 12:09:03] BitMEX_Arthur : XBU chain is now live
[2014-12-08 12:11:46] DuGuerre : wheres ur MM
[2014-12-08 12:12:12] BitMEX_Arthur : he will be in shortly but put up some of your own quotes :)
[2014-12-08 12:12:19] DuGuerre : whats the size of 1 contract?
[2014-12-08 12:12:27] BitMEX_Arthur : $100
[2014-12-08 12:12:52] BitMEX_Wally : Check out the specification: https://www.bitmex.com/app/contract/XBUZ14
[2014-12-08 15:13:53] Kalman : Hi
[2014-12-08 15:14:07] BitMEX_Arthur : Kalman: welcome
[2014-12-08 15:14:31] Kalman : reg. fees on quest, 0.00005 *100/373 ?
[2014-12-08 15:14:50] Kalman : "one question"
[2014-12-08 15:16:02] BitMEX_Arthur : correct
[2014-12-08 15:16:06] BitMEX_Arthur : on XBU chain
[2014-12-08 15:16:20] BitMEX_Arthur : plus 0.015% per 8-hours on positions held open
[2014-12-08 15:16:39] BitMEX_Arthur : or you can switch to a hedger fee structure, maker 0.5%; taker 0.25%
[2014-12-08 15:16:49] BitMEX_Arthur : if you want to switch let me know and I can help you with that
[2014-12-08 15:23:49] Kalman : could you send me more info?
[2014-12-08 15:37:06] BitMEX_Sam : Kalman: See our fees page (http://www.bitmex.com/app/fees).
[2014-12-08 15:37:17] BitMEX_Sam : If you want to switch from one structure to the other, you can do so in your Account page.
[2014-12-08 16:11:24] Kalman : Thanks for the quick feedback.
[2014-12-08 16:12:29] Kalman : Would it be possible to get info about "Reduced fees are available for designated market makers." ?
[2014-12-08 16:13:37] BitMEX_Arthur : Kalman: please create a support ticket and I will walk you through our program
[2014-12-08 16:13:58] Kalman : thx
[2014-12-08 19:16:00] BitMEX_Sam : Evening, traders - we've seen a lot of action on the XBT chain today and a bit of poking on XBU
[2014-12-08 19:16:17] BitMEX_Sam : XBU, launched today, has some initial liquidity on each quarterly contract
[2014-12-09 04:17:27] rhk : BitMEX_Sam: can you add the date to the 'recent trades' list?
[2014-12-09 04:17:55] rhk : also looks like current volume (or daily volume) is no longer displayed under the contract. .would be good to add it back
[2014-12-09 07:30:41] rhk : er guys.. all your quanto contracts have disappeared from the dropdown
[2014-12-09 07:31:32] rhk : ah i see
[2014-12-09 07:31:54] rhk : if you have a contract month selected in XBU that doesnt have a corresponding XBT contract, you cant select anything
[2014-12-09 07:52:34] void : why cancel my withdraw..
[2014-12-09 08:07:23] void : and I didn't get confirm email.
[2014-12-09 08:34:12] BitMEX_Sam : Hi @void, please re-submit, there appears to be an intermittent problem with our email sender. When a withdrawal is not confirmed after 30 minutes, it is cancelled automatically
[2014-12-09 08:47:05] BitMEX_Sam : rhk: Thanks for the diagnosis, a fix for the dropdowns is now live
[2014-12-09 10:50:12] void : i submit withdraw again...
[2014-12-09 10:55:31] void : still didn't get the confirm email...
[2014-12-09 10:56:50] BitMEX_Sam : void: I see you got it working with the links I sent you; if anything check your spam box
[2014-12-09 10:56:55] BitMEX_Sam : I will interrogate our email provider
[2014-12-09 10:57:15] void : thanks.
[2014-12-09 10:57:32] void : You guys send me a link ..
[2014-12-09 10:58:58] BitMEX_Sam : void: I am seeing that your email provider was refusing the emails
[2014-12-09 10:59:14] void : .......
[2014-12-09 10:59:19] BitMEX_Sam : Looks like they have some sort of per-IP limit, and since we use a well-known email provider, the entire provider was blocked
[2014-12-09 10:59:32] BitMEX_Sam : They referred me to: http://service.mail.qq.com/cgi-bin/help?subtype=1&&id=20022&&no=1000725
[2014-12-09 11:00:33] void : I will check my email rules..
[2014-12-09 11:02:38] void : I didn't add any email rule for bitmex in my email account setting.I can receive you email...
[2014-12-09 11:03:51] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah, the issue is that we send automated emails via an external provider
[2014-12-09 11:04:10] BitMEX_Sam : I suppose they send emails on behalf of a lot of applications, and your email host has simply blocked them
[2014-12-09 11:04:24] BitMEX_Sam : Which is kind of a braindead policy. I've contacted our provider as I am sure they want to know
[2014-12-09 11:04:36] BitMEX_Sam : They will hopefully work something out.
[2014-12-09 15:12:45] cumberland : In the "Positions" section of the trading page, symbols are shown alphabetically rather than sorted by maturity. Kind of confusing
[2014-12-09 15:46:34] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah, I think we should sort them in the same order as they are in the ticker bar
[2014-12-09 23:32:12] ParadoxBTC : volume on btc and futures has dropped!
[2014-12-10 07:53:52] BitMEX_Sam : Morning, traders
[2014-12-10 09:46:28] mlg5867 : been using bitmex for a week, finally realised that if you make the window wider everything is displayed as tiles... it was just one box wide before that
[2014-12-10 09:46:48] BitMEX_Sam : mlg5867: Hah, that's our prime layout! Sorry you missed it for so long
[2014-12-10 09:47:07] BitMEX_Sam : It's a lot less usable on a smaller width, but we wanted it to still work on tablets/phones
[2014-12-10 09:48:41] mlg5867 : looks a lot better now. I'm going to need a bigger laptop though
[2014-12-10 09:50:18] BitMEX_Sam : :) If your eyes can take it, you can always zoom the page in/out using ctrl/+-
[2014-12-11 04:03:23] goodman_josh : is the total volume for the day or since he contract went live
[2014-12-11 04:05:13] BitMEX_Wally : goodman_josh: Since the contract went live
[2014-12-11 04:05:36] BitMEX_Wally : I'll improve the wording on the hover-over
[2014-12-11 04:05:45] goodman_josh : thanks
[2014-12-11 05:07:39] BitMEX_Wally : XBTZ14 is up 5% on the Microsoft taking Bitcoin news
[2014-12-11 05:23:40] Tone : yes, Arthur should be happy volatility is back a crawl for a few weeks :)
[2014-12-11 05:30:48] goodman_josh : any thoughts on adding stops?
[2014-12-11 05:40:43] Tone : yeah that's a good idea, was thinking the same thing
[2014-12-11 05:42:16] Tone : also any chance to see liquidity (and perhaps the % of the spread) of the other contracts without switching to them
[2014-12-11 05:50:48] BitMEX_Wally : The trading engine supports StopLimit orders, but it is not exposed over the API yet.
[2014-12-11 05:53:15] BitMEX_Wally : Tone: You can expand the Instrument Details widget down the bottom
[2014-12-11 05:53:42] BitMEX_Wally : That shows the session volume and the bidPrice, midPrice, askPrice etc
[2014-12-11 05:56:30] rhk : BitMEX_Wally: dont see the session volume there
[2014-12-11 05:57:07] rhk : ah.. i did find it on the contract spec page
[2014-12-11 05:57:35] BitMEX_Wally : The "Instrument Details" table at the bottom of the Trading dashboard
[2014-12-11 05:57:47] BitMEX_Wally : There are columns `totalVolume` and `volume`
[2014-12-11 05:58:56] BitMEX_Wally : (once you click the >> to expand)
[2014-12-11 06:00:05] rhk : ah.. just clicked the / sign, not the >> sign
[2014-12-11 06:00:10] rhk : confusing.. why have 2?
[2014-12-11 06:00:29] Tone : got it thanks, still a bit too many clicks LOL, and when you get to the numbers all the way on the right, can't tell which contract is which :)
[2014-12-11 06:01:16] rhk : yeah, maybe freeze the symbol column
[2014-12-11 06:01:26] BitMEX_Wally : Yes, I'll mention that to Sam
[2014-12-11 06:04:49] Tone : mention to your guys to consider re-ordering the columns, the only important info without scrolling is symbol and Expiry (and for experienced traders the expiry date is not as important either cause it's in the ticker)
[2014-12-11 06:08:37] Tone : the pricing and liquidity info is way more useful specifically: Volume Total Volume Open Interest Bid/Ask Last
[2014-12-11 06:10:25] Tone : Oh also please mention to Sam that the comma separator is missing for "prevTotalVolume" (not sure what the field is though)... should be 164,254 to match the formatting of the rest
[2014-12-11 06:14:16] BitMEX_Wally : Will do, thanks for the great feedback
[2014-12-11 06:14:35] BitMEX_Wally : `prevTotalVolume+volume=totalVolume`
[2014-12-11 10:20:15] BitMEX_Sam : Hey @Tone, we've added your suggestions to Testnet. We have a lot of updates to push to prod so it will take a day or so to make it here
[2014-12-11 13:05:53] gaoMex : The No 1 BitMex needs now is liquidity.
[2014-12-11 13:06:04] gaoMex : *No 1 thing
[2014-12-11 13:06:29] BitMEX_Arthur : agreed if you are interested in becoming an market maker let us know :)
[2014-12-11 13:07:30] gaoMex : My pocket is not deep enough. ;)
[2014-12-11 13:45:38] goat : BitMEX_Arthur: it would be great if you guys could create a synthetic mining derivative... the model that twentyseventy has been using seems to be decent
[2014-12-11 13:46:03] BitMEX_Arthur : what is twentyseventy
[2014-12-11 13:46:15] BitMEX_Arthur : we have been scratching our heads about a product to offer
[2014-12-11 13:46:20] BitMEX_Arthur : what about a difficulty future
[2014-12-11 13:46:34] BitMEX_Arthur : Bitfinex won't be renewing their TH1 contract
[2014-12-11 13:46:38] BitMEX_Arthur : when it expires
[2014-12-11 13:46:39] goat : BitMEX_Arthur: hold on, i will get you a link (he is on bitcoin talk)
[2014-12-11 13:46:46] goat : yeah because that product is shit lol
[2014-12-11 13:46:54] BitMEX_Arthur : what didn't u like about it
[2014-12-11 13:46:59] BitMEX_Arthur : i never traded it
[2014-12-11 13:47:10] goat : it was not well thought out at all
[2014-12-11 13:47:49] goat : i have traded every mining difficulty derivative since btcs inception and have to say hands down TH1 was the WORST
[2014-12-11 13:48:43] BitMEX_Arthur : what about a difficulty future that expired after 12,096 blocks
[2014-12-11 13:48:57] BitMEX_Arthur : that equates to 6 difficulty changes if my math is correct
[2014-12-11 13:49:21] goat : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=430137.0
[2014-12-11 13:49:28] goat : that one was pretty good imo
[2014-12-11 13:49:36] BitMEX_Arthur : will take a look
[2014-12-11 13:49:40] BitMEX_Arthur : we want to offer a mining product
[2014-12-11 13:50:44] goat : BitMEX_Arthur: imo there are 2 ways to go about it.... completely synthetic or backed by something like TH1 is/was
[2014-12-11 13:51:01] goat : having it backed by something allows for more transparency imo, but is a worse model overall
[2014-12-11 13:51:04] BitMEX_Arthur : well that can be considered an equity offering to us persons
[2014-12-11 13:51:11] BitMEX_Arthur : so we wouldn't do that
[2014-12-11 13:52:27] goat : BitMEX_Arthur: makes sense, i like your thinking
[2014-12-11 13:52:59] BitMEX_Arthur : the issue with a difficulty future is finding someone to sell it
[2014-12-11 13:53:20] BitMEX_Arthur : all miners will be buyers of difficulty
[2014-12-11 13:53:34] goat : right, to hedge against hardware costs (thats how i got started)
[2014-12-11 13:56:33] goat : let me think about it a little bit and let you know my thoughts, as i said the twentyseventy link that i sent you is the best one that i have traded so far
[2014-12-11 13:56:46] BitMEX_Arthur : ok thanks for that
[2014-12-11 13:57:25] goat : BitMEX_Arthur: i think that going along the lines of osmething like that would be best for you guys too because of the way the contracts are structured
[2014-12-11 13:57:56] goat : because it is 1 that splits into 2 it allows for constant arbitrage opportuntiies which would be great for you guys if you are trying to attract more mechanized trading (aka fees)
[2014-12-11 13:58:04] goat : or 2 that join into 1
[2014-12-11 18:01:04] BitMEX_Sam : goat: I like it. We've definitely had some conversations internally about that sort of thing
[2014-12-11 18:01:17] BitMEX_Sam : Now that the product is really stabilizing we'll have resources to put toward introducing products like that
[2014-12-12 03:23:53] rhk : yeah IIRC the main issues with TH1 where due to very restricted supply
[2014-12-12 03:24:39] rhk : problem 1) they gave the entire mining capacity to one market maker, who held on to most of it
[2014-12-12 03:25:19] rhk : problem 2) you couldnt short without borrowing it.
[2014-12-12 03:25:47] rhk : so that caused borrowing/shorting to be very expensive
[2014-12-12 04:19:29] BitMEX_Arthur : rhk: did u traded TH1 at all
[2014-12-12 04:42:05] rhk : no.. i looked into it, but didnt trade because of the above issues
[2014-12-12 04:42:34] BitMEX_Arthur : did you ever take a look at this mining pseudo etf on havelock
[2014-12-12 04:42:36] BitMEX_Arthur : pretty interesting
[2014-12-12 04:42:44] rhk : not yet - i saw the link above
[2014-12-12 04:42:48] rhk : i'll take a look later
[2014-12-12 04:43:23] BitMEX_Arthur : would like to do a difficulty future but as i said above who would sell it
[2014-12-12 04:47:53] rhk : depends on the price :)
[2014-12-12 04:48:35] BitMEX_Arthur : :)
[2014-12-12 04:49:13] BitMEX_Arthur : need to find someone to market make it
[2014-12-12 04:49:44] rhk : you current market maker isnt interested?
[2014-12-12 04:51:26] BitMEX_Arthur : possibly but would like to find some others who would be willing to sell
[2014-12-12 04:56:46] rhk : how far out does it need to go?
[2014-12-12 04:57:14] BitMEX_Arthur : i was thinking 12,096 blocks which is about 3 months
[2014-12-12 04:57:32] BitMEX_Arthur : that should be 6 difficulty changes
[2014-12-12 05:00:13] rhk : i'll give it some more thought
[2014-12-12 10:06:52] mlg5867 : there are no fees for settlement right, if you went long, you're not 'selling' the contract on the expiry date
[2014-12-12 10:10:14] BitMEX_Wally : mlg5867: We charge the takerFee for settlements so it is equivalent to selling
[2014-12-12 10:11:33] mlg5867 : ok thanks
[2014-12-12 14:13:17] goat : BitMEX_Arthur: i may be interested in being a primary dealer of the mining difficulty contract
[2014-12-12 14:16:40] BitMEX_Arthur : Ok I will ping u over email
[2014-12-12 14:17:40] goat : Sounds good, we can discuss further there.
[2014-12-13 04:39:17] rhk : whats the limit up/down for rolls? its displaying zero for both, which can't be right.
[2014-12-13 04:51:10] BitMEX_Arthur : rhk: it's a synthetic
[2014-12-13 04:51:13] BitMEX_Arthur : so no limit up or down
[2014-12-13 05:04:34] rhk : and can you remind me - if i trade the roll, i end up with individual positions in each leg? or its treated as a separate instrument?
[2014-12-13 05:04:53] BitMEX_Arthur : u end up with the outrights
[2014-12-13 05:04:59] rhk : ok thx
[2014-12-13 06:51:24] floopfloop : is XBUZ14 similiar to that of what was in the contest?
[2014-12-13 06:51:58] BitMEX_Arthur : it is similar but different to XBT chain
[2014-12-13 06:52:07] BitMEX_Arthur : we have a blog post about the differences
[2014-12-13 06:52:42] BitMEX_Arthur : http://blog.bitmex.com
[2014-12-13 06:52:46] BitMEX_Arthur : XBT vs. XBU
[2014-12-13 06:52:51] BitMEX_Arthur : explains all the differences
[2014-12-13 06:56:00] floopfloop : Thank you Ill check it out
[2014-12-15 08:10:32] BitMEX_Sam : morning BitMEX
[2014-12-15 08:11:04] BitMEX_Sam : We rolled out some big websocket API changes over the weekend, see the docs - https://www.bitmex.com/app/wsAPI
[2014-12-15 08:11:27] BitMEX_Sam : All existing clients will continue to work, there are simply new features & increased reliability
[2014-12-15 14:47:09] mlg5867 : it would be nice if the order book updated after a trade, right now you have to wait for it to refresh
[2014-12-15 14:47:46] BitMEX_Arthur : mlg5867: you mean u have to refresh the page to see your order appear?
[2014-12-15 14:54:58] BitMEX_Wally : Updates to the order book are pushed over the WebSocket the same time as the trade. What are you seeing?
[2014-12-15 15:09:29] BitMEX_Wally : mlg5867: Do you mean that after lifting the offer, you have to wait for the market maker to replenish the liquidity?
[2014-12-15 15:17:38] mlg5867 : yeah i have to refresh the page, placing an order doesn't update the book
[2014-12-15 15:19:38] BitMEX_Sam : mlg5867: Do you see the new order in your order list after placing it?
[2014-12-15 15:20:29] BitMEX_Wally : The last order you placed was filled immediately, so the only change to the order book would have been the asksize decreasing?
[2014-12-15 15:29:31] mlg5867 : i just did a test on XBUH15, bought 5 contracts and the ask only went from 177 to 172 when the page was refreshed (i waited 30 seconds). it may be my browser
[2014-12-15 15:34:03] BitMEX_Wally : Yes, it seems like WebSocket updates are not coming through. Can you try a different browser?
[2014-12-15 15:36:05] void : the MM always keep 8$ spread...
[2014-12-15 15:42:11] BitMEX_Sam : mlg5867: Are you seeing chat messages in real time?
[2014-12-15 15:54:55] mlg5867 : yeah chat is working fine, sorry not really at my laptop much now. I will try incog mode that usually fixes things
[2014-12-15 15:55:22] BitMEX_Sam : mlg5867: Okay, let me know if you see anything else. Generally if the chat is working everything else should be too, they all run over the same socket.
[2014-12-15 15:55:48] BitMEX_Sam : Email us at support@bitmex.com if you run into any issues, one of us will get back to you right away
[2014-12-15 15:57:14] mlg5867 : ok cool - it seems to be a bug with my browser, probably one of the addons. I guess if nobody else is reporting it it's probably ok :)
[2014-12-15 15:57:46] BitMEX_Sam : Interesting - well if you figure out which one it is, please let me know
[2014-12-15 17:07:40] Tone : wow, the 7,800 contract buy is the biggest i've seen here to date, you picking up some liquidity guys :)
[2014-12-15 17:13:39] BitMEX_Sam : Tone: See XBTF15 as well :)
[2014-12-15 17:18:41] floopfloop : Why does the market maker thing always best my price instantaneously? I cant get a trade in edge wise!
[2014-12-15 17:19:44] BitMEX_Sam : A few users are running their own bots
[2014-12-15 17:20:01] BitMEX_Sam : I suppose one of them is simply always beating the best price
[2014-12-15 19:04:47] floopfloop : yeah thats true
[2014-12-15 19:04:58] floopfloop : I am just trying to make a little on my position
[2014-12-15 19:05:08] floopfloop : got some shares at 350.58 :)
[2014-12-15 19:05:42] floopfloop : looks like the real trading is a little harder to make money on than in the trading game lol
[2014-12-15 19:13:29] BitMEX_Sam : Ha yeah, people were a lot looser about their &btc; back during the game
[2014-12-15 19:37:16] Tone : Thanks for the changes in the instrument details, it's much better now
[2014-12-15 19:57:07] BitMEX_Sam : Tone: No problem, you were absolutely right on that one
[2014-12-16 01:06:26] BenAnh : Is this 20:1 leverage?
[2014-12-16 01:06:55] BitMEX_Arthur : BenAnh: the current maximum leverage is 5:1
[2014-12-16 01:07:38] BitMEX_Arthur : because we do not socialise losses we offer lower leverage to guarantee that the contracts settle correctly
[2014-12-16 02:49:24] rhk : BitMEX_Sam: hmm.. similar orderbook issues here. i trade, but it doesnt update the prices
[2014-12-16 02:50:43] rhk : seems better after a tab refresh
[2014-12-16 02:52:58] rhk : seems similar issue to what the other guy reported - websocket is still live, because i can send orders, and get order status updates & trades.. but the prices in orderbook dont change
[2014-12-16 02:55:16] BitMEX_Arthur : ok thanks we will look into that
[2014-12-16 04:12:44] floopfloop : BitMEX_Arthur: could you extend our free trade accounts for another month for the holidays? :)
[2014-12-16 04:13:51] floopfloop : I don't have done any major trading here, but will be able to after the holidays. Universities time out the tuition checks well rofl
[2014-12-16 04:14:01] floopfloop : I haven't done* wow
[2014-12-16 04:26:59] floopfloop : sa
[2014-12-16 04:27:41] floopfloop : BitMEX_Sam: Are you able to incorporate a # of users online area?
[2014-12-16 04:27:53] floopfloop : or would that not work with the bots?
[2014-12-16 06:05:31] ParadoxBTC : I do hope btc goes up haha
[2014-12-16 08:05:56] floopfloop : yeah I am thinking $360 today
[2014-12-16 08:06:58] BitMEX_Sam : not looking good so far on that target
[2014-12-16 08:07:13] BitMEX_Sam : floopfloop: re: users online I'll look into it but we have a few higher priorities at the moment
[2014-12-16 08:07:52] floopfloop : yeah, def understandable
[2014-12-16 08:08:10] floopfloop : and I am just trolling the troll box, troll troll troll
[2014-12-16 08:08:22] floopfloop : Did you know you can pay taxes with Bitcoin?
[2014-12-16 08:08:40] floopfloop : I can't wait until we are saying "remember when we used to joke about that"
[2014-12-16 08:10:32] BitMEX_Sam : in which country?
[2014-12-16 08:14:58] DuGuerre : Hi Sam, having issues with the orderbook not updating
[2014-12-16 08:15:28] DuGuerre : seems ok now actually after pressing refresh
[2014-12-16 08:15:33] DuGuerre : but had a stale orderbook just before
[2014-12-16 08:16:15] BitMEX_Arthur : yeah we are seeing it as well, figuring out what's causing
[2014-12-16 08:16:17] BitMEX_Arthur : it
[2014-12-16 08:16:27] mlg5867 : do you use chrome with scriptsafe?
[2014-12-16 08:17:03] DuGuerre : using chrome but not scriptsafe
[2014-12-16 08:17:31] mlg5867 : ok yeah happens to me too, using chrome but i have scriptsafe disabled, just wondered if it was a bug with the addon
[2014-12-16 08:17:52] BitMEX_Sam : Just saw it myself, taking a look at it now, bear with us guys
[2014-12-16 08:40:43] BitMEX_Sam : Deployed a fix that should help you guys with connectivity please let me know if you still see issues
[2014-12-16 09:08:49] mlg5867 : ok thanks!
[2014-12-16 09:41:17] rhk : BitMEX_Sam: orderbook still broken i think.. i'll send you a screenshot
[2014-12-16 10:11:52] mlg5867 : yeah still doesnt work for me, took an order off the book and it stayed there until i refreshed
[2014-12-16 10:16:05] BitMEX_Sam : I found a way to replicate it. will push a fix shortly
[2014-12-16 10:16:30] mlg5867 : ok fantastic, sorry i couldnt be more help trying to nail down the problem, got too many tabs open to close chrome
[2014-12-16 10:17:04] BitMEX_Sam : It's all good. These interactions can get complex sometimes. Thanks for the help
[2014-12-16 10:26:24] BitMEX_Sam : It's fixed, please refresh
[2014-12-16 10:53:40] mlg5867 : looks ok so far
[2014-12-16 12:29:16] goat : Trade interface seems fixed today, yesterday was a bit buggy.
[2014-12-16 12:29:29] goat : Did you process withdraws for today yet?
[2014-12-16 12:31:49] BitMEX_Sam : goat: Just starting on that now
[2014-12-16 13:02:50] BitMEX_Wally : goat: Withdrawals have been completed
[2014-12-16 13:03:25] BitMEX_Wally : All funds are held in multi-signature wallets and require two of us to sign
[2014-12-16 14:35:11] goat : No worries man, I was just wondering because I did a test withdraw yesterday :) Thank you.
[2014-12-16 16:18:47] rhk : BitMEX_Wally: any reason for not listing XBUF15? its the only one without a matching inverse contract
[2014-12-16 16:19:30] BitMEX_Wally : We currently list monthly XBT futures and quarterly XBU futures
[2014-12-16 16:19:55] BitMEX_Wally : XBU is better suited for people hedging USD risk, who want a longer term product
[2014-12-16 16:20:23] rhk : i personally would find it useful to list both for the same months
[2014-12-16 16:21:10] rhk : also ICBIT has a jan contract, but your fees are lower - so i think there would be interest from other traders
[2014-12-16 16:21:40] BitMEX_Wally : If people want to trade it, we'll list it :)
[2014-12-16 16:21:41] BitMEX_Arthur : from my general experience on icbit the quarterlies always traded more than the monthlies
[2014-12-16 16:22:14] BitMEX_Arthur : provide us a 24/7 mrkt rhk and we'll list anything :)
[2014-12-16 16:22:39] rhk : can you remind me what min size & spread you are looking for?
[2014-12-16 16:22:52] BitMEX_Arthur : i'll shoot you a mail
[2014-12-16 16:23:00] rhk : thanks
[2014-12-16 16:23:28] rhk : XBU should be fine i think.. i'll take a look tomorrow and let you know
[2014-12-16 21:46:24] floopfloop : time for BTC to go back up
[2014-12-16 21:46:29] floopfloop : that Time news is big
[2014-12-16 22:12:39] Tone : Can i suggest a crazy idea if it's doable: in the orderbook, you highlight the persons orders so i'm assuming if other people also inputted the same price it will still show separately in the window. so with that in mind, would it be possible to edit your position right in that window by altering price &/or position size instead of canceling and reentering in another box
[2014-12-17 00:16:39] BitMEX_Wally : Tone: At the moment the order book display is L2 only meaning grouped by price, so your orders are not shown separately.
[2014-12-17 00:17:34] BitMEX_Wally : We're thinking of adding an order update API to save market makers having to cancel and resubmit, if we do then we might expose it on the UI
[2014-12-17 02:02:38] Tone : sounds good, thanks Wally
[2014-12-17 02:10:01] Tone : one more question, is there a way to see how much Commission has been been paid over time... maybe add another bar to the Margin box (i know it's long already though). As a random idea, a bar per each contract trading keeping cumulative track per the life of the contract, then vanish maybe a week after expiry
[2014-12-17 02:10:47] Tone : This way a trader would know how much trading that contract cost him in commission over the life of the contract being traded, i know i'm curious not sure about others here
[2014-12-17 05:22:58] binaryfin : HAHAHA Tone you troll :)
[2014-12-17 05:23:35] binaryfin : I logged in just to Troll you that your were trolling in the trollbox - that is all

[2014-12-17 05:24:25] binaryfin : I wish every site had a trollbox
[2014-12-17 05:24:39] binaryfin : something to do when the price is not moving
[2014-12-17 05:24:55] BitMEX_Arthur : keep u looking at the screen
[2014-12-17 05:24:59] BitMEX_Arthur : u'll do something eventually :)
[2014-12-17 05:25:06] binaryfin : you were in NZ with Tone!
[2014-12-17 05:36:43] Tone : Yeah, Arthur and I were speakers there, the video's should be up soon, they are posting them in order on this page: http://bravenewcoin.com/bitcoin-basics/bitcoin-south-talks/
[2014-12-17 05:37:56] Tone : oh oh, looks like more work for same LOL, the links in the troll box are not clickable, they so gonna ban this section from my account :)
[2014-12-17 05:38:11] Tone : *Sam, by bad
[2014-12-17 05:38:25] BitMEX_Arthur : we don't let non admins submit live links yet :)
[2014-12-17 05:38:29] BitMEX_Arthur : special privileges
[2014-12-17 05:39:04] Tone : gotcha
[2014-12-17 11:41:49] gaoMex : Only less than 200 orders left on bid side. Can't really trade... :(
[2014-12-17 11:44:37] BitMEX_Sam : gaoMex: Working on it, our lead MM lost connectivity
[2014-12-17 11:46:16] floopfloop : dat 56k tho

[2014-12-17 11:51:13] floopfloop : Time magazine accepts it, and it goes down? wtf

[2014-12-17 11:51:37] floopfloop : Does Obama need to suck Satoshis dick or something?
[2014-12-17 11:51:49] floopfloop : maybe that would send the price up by a dollar
[2014-12-17 17:45:30] floopfloop : looks like no one wants to buy btc lol
[2014-12-18 01:02:30] BitMEX_Arthur : nice asia morning action on XBTH15
[2014-12-18 01:30:20] DuGuerre : Anyone want to sell some H15 to me?
[2014-12-18 01:52:48] BitMEX_Wally : joequant: You want to sell XBTH15?
[2014-12-18 04:55:31] joequant : about XBTH15

[2014-12-18 04:58:19] joequant : If anyone wants to sell HT15 at $2
