This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2016-05-19 10:13:31] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBTU16`: Sell 1000 @ 511.87
[2016-05-19 11:05:18] Trebile : Hi BitMex guys. Would it be possible to show stop trigger price in Stops tab? It's easy to forget that if you have more orders at the same time.
[2016-05-19 11:12:41] BitMEX_Wally : Trebile: Are you on desktop or mobile?
[2016-05-19 11:13:57] Trebile : Desktop at the moment.
[2016-05-19 11:14:03] BitMEX_Wally : Trebile: There is a 'Stop Price' column
[2016-05-19 11:16:16] Trebile : Yeah, but mine does not show any value.
[2016-05-19 11:16:48] Trebile : I have 2 untriggered stops ATM.
[2016-05-19 11:17:35] Trebile : Stop market orders, but it would help to see the trigger price too.
[2016-05-19 11:17:35] BitMEX_Wally : Yeah I see them in the system
[2016-05-19 11:17:42] BitMEX_Wally : Just try refreshing
[2016-05-19 11:19:39] BitMEX_Wally : After reloading the page, what exactly do you see in the 'Stop Price' column?
[2016-05-19 11:21:07] Trebile : The "Price" column shows "Market".
[2016-05-19 11:21:29] Trebile : Is there a way to send screen shot?
[2016-05-19 11:24:06] BitMEX_Wally : What does the 'Stop Price' column show?
[2016-05-19 11:25:01] Trebile : Stops[1]: "Symbol", "Qty", "Price" (=Market), "Order value"... etc
[2016-05-19 11:25:21] Trebile : Cancelled the other stop.
[2016-05-19 11:25:45] BitMEX_Wally : Ahh, I see the problem
[2016-05-19 11:26:03] BitMEX_Wally : Click on your username on the top right and switch to 'Advanced'
[2016-05-19 11:26:52] Trebile : Oh... there it is. Thanks.
[2016-05-19 11:27:06] BitMEX_Wally : We will update the Basic layout to include the Stop Price column
[2016-05-19 11:27:30] Trebile : Yes, I think it could be a good idea.
[2016-05-19 11:30:51] Star : My chart has gone all messed up on my ipad. Does anyone know if there is a way to reset it?
[2016-05-19 11:32:00] Trebile : Maybe there could even be an user-customed layout where the user could select the necessary columns in the order he/she wants?
[2016-05-19 11:32:03] BitMEX_Wally : Right click (i.e. double finger tap) and then 'Reset Chart'
[2016-05-19 11:32:43] BitMEX_Wally : Star: If that does not work, then click the 'Clear' button at the bottom of the Preferences page: https://www.bitmex.com/app/preferences
[2016-05-19 11:34:02] Star : Aha, pressing clear worked. Thanks Wally.
[2016-05-19 11:48:08] vbmithr : Cool for reset chart!
[2016-05-19 11:48:17] vbmithr : I was looking for this the other day.

[2016-05-19 14:33:54] nip : Will you ever delist a perpetual swap that has open interest? Factum for example
[2016-05-19 14:34:48] habibi : announcement 24-48h before, seetlement, and its gone
[2016-05-19 14:35:26] nip : BitMEX: is that true?
[2016-05-19 14:36:42] BitMEX_Sam : That's not true.
[2016-05-19 14:36:51] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETHXBT`: Sell 50 @ 0.03067
[2016-05-19 14:37:17] BitMEX_Sam : We have never delisted an instrument that had open interest - swaps are an outlier in that respect because they do not settle, so we have to implement a new policy to close them out.
[2016-05-19 14:37:51] BitMEX_Sam : At this point in time we have not finalized the mechanism because we do not have plans to delist any swap contracts, but I guarantee there will be at least a week's notice and plenty of reminders.
[2016-05-19 14:38:43] nip : at least a weeks notice, no plans to delist now
[2016-05-19 14:38:52] nip : thats a good enough answer for me to start trading factums :)

[2016-05-19 15:04:56] mrp1nk : why there is no such thing as a "trailing stop limit"?
[2016-05-19 15:06:17] BitMEX_Sam : mrp1nk: Let me check on that, the limit price itself would have to have an offset value. We may have it implemented on the engine side already.
[2016-05-19 15:07:18] mrp1nk : BitMEX_Sam: cool,, then it should be easy to add it
[2016-05-19 15:07:33] BitMEX_Sam : Yes. We have many more advanced types available via the API already
[2016-05-19 15:07:40] BitMEX_Sam : It's just a matter of getting the UI controls in place.
[2016-05-19 15:08:27] mrp1nk : a CLI would also be nice and enough ;)
[2016-05-19 15:08:52] BitMEX_Sam : Certainly possibly to do... you should see our repo at https://github.com/BitMEX/api-connectors
[2016-05-19 15:09:11] BitMEX_Sam : Because we're Swagger-compatible, dozens of readymade projects can use our HTTP API
[2016-05-19 15:09:31] mrp1nk : cool, thx
[2016-05-19 15:15:07] Smartass : So are there any ETH futures that are not perpetual?
[2016-05-19 15:15:51] BitMEX_Wally : The API supports a trailing offset for Stop or StopLimit orders, but the limit price is fixed
[2016-05-19 15:16:13] mrp1nk : hmm...#
[2016-05-19 15:16:55] BitMEX_Wally : So what you want is a stop order with a trailing offset on both the trigger price and the limit price?
[2016-05-19 15:17:03] mrp1nk : yap
[2016-05-19 15:17:29] Smartass : Hello?
[2016-05-19 15:17:41] mrp1nk : Smartass: no
[2016-05-19 15:18:10] BitMEX_Wally : i.e a trailing stop sell with an trigger offset of -10 but a limit offset of -5. So if the mark price is 400 the stop price is 390. Then if the price rises to 403 the stop price becomes 393. Then if the mark price drops to 393 the order triggers as a limit order at 388?
[2016-05-19 15:18:23] Smartass : ok. thx.
[2016-05-19 15:20:30] mrp1nk : BitMEX_Wally: gimme a sec
[2016-05-19 15:25:17] mrp1nk : yes, exactly. @BitMEX_Wally
[2016-05-19 16:01:53] BitMEX_Wally : mrp1nk: OK we will add it to the feature request list. Do you know of some other markets that support this kind of order
[2016-05-19 16:02:30] mrp1nk : no, tbh, but i was expecting it to work like this when i saw it for the first time
[2016-05-19 16:04:18] mrp1nk : the main reason to want such a feature is that bots often place ridiculous low bids during fast dips for a short time
[2016-05-19 16:04:32] mrp1nk : honestly i don't want to market sell into that bids
[2016-05-19 16:05:01] mrp1nk : but i see that risk of not getting filled and i'm willing to take it
[2016-05-19 16:05:59] BitMEX_Wally : To be honest we're probably the only exchange that supports trailing stop limit orders as the moment (where the limit price is fixed). I've never heard of trailing stop orders where the limit price is trailing too
[2016-05-19 16:06:48] BitMEX_Wally : I'd like to add support for pegged limit orders in general, i.e. an order that is pegged above/below the mark price
[2016-05-19 16:07:06] BitMEX_Wally : So when I do that I'll make sure the trailing stop limit orders can be pegged in the same way
[2016-05-19 16:15:33] Smartass : Is there an error in the Mark Price for DAOETH the 0.01169 seems wrong??
[2016-05-19 16:16:36] Smartass : could somebody help me to get calc right would like to understand mechanics here?
[2016-05-19 16:17:08] Smartass : Fair price= 0,013 + Fair value
[2016-05-19 16:17:50] Smartass : Fair value= 0,002205 (0,013*172%*36/365)
[2016-05-19 16:17:52] mrp1nk : BitMEX_Wally: ok, thx again. feel free to ignore this idea if you find this absurd. at least i would say its low priority. much more important are OTO orders
[2016-05-19 16:18:04] mrp1nk : imo
[2016-05-19 16:18:06] BitMEX_Wally : The API supports OTO orders right now
[2016-05-19 16:18:29] mrp1nk : well, i mean in the UI
[2016-05-19 16:18:39] BitMEX_Wally : Yeah, you can try https://www.bitsouk.com for now
[2016-05-19 16:19:09] Smartass : so mark price= 0,0152?? not 0,01169
[2016-05-19 16:19:55] BitMEX_Wally : The mark price for `DAOETH` is currently 0.01169
[2016-05-19 16:20:13] Smartass : Yes but the formula gets a different result
[2016-05-19 16:20:21] Smartass : as i calculated
[2016-05-19 16:20:38] BitMEX_Wally : If offer to sell you a $10 gift card today for $10, but tomorrow I offer to sell it for $15
[2016-05-19 16:20:43] BitMEX_Wally : Is it worth $15?
[2016-05-19 16:21:02] Smartass : No i mean you have in the documentation
[2016-05-19 16:21:08] Smartass : a formula published...
[2016-05-19 16:21:34] Smartass : as i wrote Fair price= 0.013 + Fair Value
[2016-05-19 16:21:46] Smartass : the results do not match?
[2016-05-19 16:22:19] BitMEX_Wally : So the fair basis rate is currently 172% (annualised)
[2016-05-19 16:22:33] Smartass : Yes...
[2016-05-19 16:22:38] BitMEX_Wally : There are 36 days until expiry, so 36/365 = 0.0986301
[2016-05-19 16:22:44] mrp1nk : BitMEX_Wally: sorry i meant OCO :)
[2016-05-19 16:22:44] Smartass : yes
[2016-05-19 16:22:56] BitMEX_Wally : Multiply that by 0.172 you get 0.0169644
[2016-05-19 16:23:18] Smartass : but 0.013x172%x36/365=0.0022054
[2016-05-19 16:23:48] BitMEX_Wally : Sorry, I mean 0.1696438
[2016-05-19 16:23:58] BitMEX_Wally : Then you take the indicative price which is 0.01
[2016-05-19 16:24:39] BitMEX_Wally : So the basis is 0.01*1.72*36/365 = 0.0016964
[2016-05-19 16:24:50] BitMEX_Wally : 0.01 plus 0.0016964 is 0.0116964
[2016-05-19 16:25:18] Smartass : What have to think
[2016-05-19 16:25:37] Smartass : but 172% is not 0.172??
[2016-05-19 16:25:45] Smartass : it is 1.72 maybe
[2016-05-19 16:25:45] BitMEX_Wally : 172% is 1.72
[2016-05-19 16:25:57] BitMEX_Wally : 0.013 is the last traded price of the future, which is irrelevant for the fair price calculation which uses the underlying index price (0.01)
[2016-05-19 16:26:23] Smartass : what is the underlying index price?
[2016-05-19 16:26:26] BitMEX_Wally : `0.01`
[2016-05-19 16:27:36] BitMEX_Wally : 1 ETH gets you 100 DAO that can be burned for 1 ETH. If you pay 1.5 ETH for 100 DAO its still only worth 1 ETH because the premium goes into an extra fund, if you burn it you only get 1 ETH
[2016-05-19 16:29:10] sleger : Smartass doesnt live up to its name
[2016-05-19 16:29:18] Smartass : is there a rule of thumb for indicative price
[2016-05-19 16:29:25] Smartass : because in doc
[2016-05-19 16:29:40] Smartass : it says something like last price
[2016-05-19 16:29:51] BitMEX_Wally : The indicative price is usually just the last traded price of the underlying spot market
[2016-05-19 16:29:59] BitMEX_Wally : So for XBTETH it is .XBT which is the Kaiko index
[2016-05-19 16:30:09] BitMEX_Wally : fo ETHXBT it is the last traded price on Poloniex
[2016-05-19 16:30:21] BitMEX_Wally : But for DAOETH there is no spot market
[2016-05-19 16:30:22] Smartass : but that for DAO would be 0.013
[2016-05-19 16:30:27] Smartass : not 0.01
[2016-05-19 16:30:35] Smartass : https://www.bitmex.com/app/fairPriceMarking#weighted-bid-ask-and-mid-price
[2016-05-19 16:30:55] Smartass : it says: last price on XBX
[2016-05-19 16:31:17] BitMEX_Wally : DAOETH does not have impact mid price marking enabled
[2016-05-19 16:31:35] BitMEX_Wally : If it did then the basis would be more than 172% so that the fair price was closer to 0.013
[2016-05-19 16:32:29] BitMEX_Wally : Fair price marking is about adding a basis to the underlying spot price calculate the futures price. It is non sensical to take the futures price itself and add a basis
[2016-05-19 16:33:05] Smartass : it doesnt??
[2016-05-19 16:33:18] Smartass : but here it says DPE enabled: https://www.bitmex.com/app/contract/DAOETH
[2016-05-19 16:33:33] BitMEX_Wally : `Fair Basis Calculation Fair Basis is manually adjusted at invervals to match the market.`
[2016-05-19 16:33:39] Smartass : if you click on "the cocumentation"
[2016-05-19 16:33:40] BitMEX_Wally : It does not say Impact Mid Price
[2016-05-19 16:34:25] Smartass : under contract pricing then the link for "Fair price Marking"
[2016-05-19 16:34:42] Smartass : that gives the impression that it belongs to this contract...
[2016-05-19 16:35:08] BitMEX_Wally : Ok we will update the docs
[2016-05-19 16:35:15] BitMEX_Wally : Have a look at XBTM16: https://www.bitmex.com/app/contract/XBTM16
[2016-05-19 16:35:23] BitMEX_Wally : `Fair Basis Calculation This instrument is marked using the Impact Mid Price method.`
[2016-05-19 16:35:28] tscha : in my positions tab, it says "Open Positions [1]" although I don't have any positions.... it then shows me ETHXBT with position size == 0
[2016-05-19 16:36:02] tscha : ah, realised pnl
[2016-05-19 16:36:08] tscha : nvm
[2016-05-19 16:36:20] Smartass : there it says Fair price under Mark Price
[2016-05-19 16:36:53] Smartass : but in DAOETH it says "Fair price" too
[2016-05-19 16:37:03] tscha : no wait, I haven't traded since last settlement, it shouldn't be there
[2016-05-19 16:37:03] Smartass : thats what you meant with changing docs?
[2016-05-19 16:37:19] BitMEX_Wally : `DAOETH` does use fair price marking
[2016-05-19 16:37:46] BitMEX_Wally : However the fair basis rate is set manually
[2016-05-19 16:38:01] BitMEX_Wally : However `XBTM16` uses fair price marking and the fair basis rate is set using the impact mid price method
[2016-05-19 16:40:01] Smartass : O.K. what you want to tell me is that for DAOETH Fair price=0.01+Fair Value??
[2016-05-19 16:40:24] BitMEX_Wally : Yes
[2016-05-19 16:40:34] BitMEX_Wally : The mark price is only used for unrealised PNL so what does it matter?
[2016-05-19 16:40:46] BitMEX_Wally : The spot price is fixed at 0.01 so no liquidations are being triggered
[2016-05-19 16:41:16] Smartass : Fair Value = 0.01x172%x36/365
[2016-05-19 16:41:19] Smartass : correct?
[2016-05-19 16:41:47] BitMEX_Wally : Basically the mark price is 0.01169 because that's where we set it
[2016-05-19 16:41:52] BitMEX_Wally : But what does it matter?
[2016-05-19 16:41:58] BitMEX_Sam : tscha: Do you have an open order?
[2016-05-19 16:42:08] Smartass : no first day here
[2016-05-19 16:42:18] Smartass : trying understand...
[2016-05-19 16:42:36] Smartass : hate it to be margin called without getting why...
[2016-05-19 16:42:48] mrp1nk : btw. i need to agree with smartass that the docu is super thin
[2016-05-19 16:43:01] tscha : BitMEX_Sam: yes, open orders, but not an open position
[2016-05-19 16:43:10] Smartass : with your help got it this far...
[2016-05-19 16:43:18] mrp1nk : not understandable for average joe
[2016-05-19 16:43:27] BitMEX_Sam : tscha: I may remove this, but basically we show the position so you can manually add/remove margin.
[2016-05-19 16:43:40] Smartass : i am not average joe in trading...
[2016-05-19 16:43:40] BitMEX_Sam : It's a bit unintuitive and now that we have the leverage slider, I will likely remove it
[2016-05-19 16:43:51] tscha : ah okay. made sense you added this before the slider
[2016-05-19 16:44:05] tscha : before the slider was added*
[2016-05-19 16:44:11] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah. Old holdover from when that was the only way to adjust fixed margin
[2016-05-19 16:45:06] Smartass : BitMEX_Sam: thank you..
[2016-05-19 16:48:44] mrp1nk : Smartass: was not my intention to imply this. i' m generally speaking
[2016-05-19 16:50:06] Smartass : yeah no problem @mrp1nk
[2016-05-19 16:50:26] Smartass : i was a bit sensible since i read through doc ;)
[2016-05-19 16:56:12] Smartass : BitMEX_Sam: one thing i still don't get is how do you get the % Fair basis if you don't use Weighted Mid Price??
[2016-05-19 16:57:37] sleger : they decide it. The real question is : how and why is it so much below the market rate ?
[2016-05-19 17:02:25] Smartass : below what market rate?
[2016-05-19 17:02:54] Smartass : 172% is a lot... 10-year treasuries are
[2016-05-19 17:03:40] BitMEX_Wally : sleger: Basically the maintenance margin requirement is 15% so the mark price is set at 0.01169 so that a 15% move down is 0.01
[2016-05-19 17:04:36] BitMEX_Wally : So that if the basis collapses and it trades down, no-one will be liquidated by the mark price being adjusted down
[2016-05-19 17:07:02] Smartass : BitMEX_Wally: so the mark price is just 1/0.85 x Indicative Settlement?
[2016-05-19 17:09:07] BitMEX_Wally : Effectively
[2016-05-19 17:09:36] BitMEX_Wally : Once DAO starts trading on Poloniex we will just use that as the mark price
[2016-05-19 17:11:44] Smartass : thats a bit confusing... I thought that when DAO starts trading the Poloniprice= indicative settlement
[2016-05-19 17:12:20] Smartass : and % fair basis would be calculate By Weighting...
[2016-05-19 17:12:49] Smartass : sry by weighted mid price... No?
[2016-05-19 17:12:57] BitMEX_Wally : Sure
[2016-05-19 17:13:14] BitMEX_Wally : Depends how much basis there is
[2016-05-19 17:16:50] Smartass : with basis you mean the depth of orderbook on this site?
[2016-05-19 17:19:30] rapidtrades : another eth lead selloff
[2016-05-19 17:19:33] rapidtrades : this is getting redic
[2016-05-19 17:20:08] rapidtrades : b1tch u aint the chief coin round here!
[2016-05-19 17:22:24] BitMEX_Wally : Basis is the premium between the spot price and the futures price
[2016-05-19 17:25:50] rapidtrades : who's buying 17,000 worth of eth
[2016-05-19 17:25:54] rapidtrades : and are u nuts!
[2016-05-19 17:26:33] rapidtrades : that guy reserves to lose all his monies
[2016-05-19 17:27:06] Smartass : BitMEX_Wally: ah O.K. of course....
[2016-05-19 17:35:36] Smartass : BitMEX_Wally: last question for today so for the Fair Basis rate will soon be: you go 2.5/or 5 btc (or 10?) down on orderbook on BITMEX for the future right?
[2016-05-19 17:36:37] Smartass : So the idea is that you want to insure the traders here a bit that a very expensive last trade is not forcing liquidation... To make it more balanced...
[2016-05-19 17:36:51] BitMEX_Wally : 0.1 XBT / initMargin so 0.33 XBT gross order value
[2016-05-19 17:37:10] BitMEX_Wally : So if we enabled impact mid price marking it would look at roughly 25 contracts on the bid and 25 on the offer
[2016-05-19 17:37:30] Smartass : i don't know if i get you right.. i meant the calc for % fair basis...
[2016-05-19 17:38:02] Smartass : is you calculate 2.5 or 5 btc average price for bid and ask
[2016-05-19 17:38:17] BitMEX_Wally : Is your question about impact mid price?
[2016-05-19 17:39:00] Smartass : i guess here:https://www.bitmex.com/app/fairPriceMarking#weighted-bid-ask-and-mid-price
[2016-05-19 17:39:14] Smartass : its called % fair basis
[2016-05-19 17:39:26] Smartass : and weighted mid price
[2016-05-19 17:39:39] BitMEX_Wally : Right, so 0.1 XBT divided by the initial margin 0.30 is 0.3333333 Bitcoin
[2016-05-19 17:39:59] BitMEX_Wally : So your answer is we look at the depth weighted price of 0.33 Bitcoin, which is roughly 25 contracts
[2016-05-19 17:40:25] BitMEX_Wally : We take the average of the depth weighted bid and depth weighted offer
[2016-05-19 17:40:29] BitMEX_Wally : that is the depth weighted mid
[2016-05-19 17:40:44] Smartass : Ah O.K. so 0.33btc on Orderbook of Bitmex right?
[2016-05-19 17:40:47] BitMEX_Wally : Yes
[2016-05-19 17:40:48] Smartass : not Poloni...
[2016-05-19 17:40:53] Smartass : since you want basis...
[2016-05-19 17:41:14] Smartass : O.K. thanks a lot!!
[2016-05-19 17:41:16] BitMEX_Wally : We just use the last price of Poloniex, and work out what annualised percentage must be added to it to get the impact mid price
[2016-05-19 17:43:56] Smartass : Ah the terms are a bit confusing... When you say "impact mid price" that is the same whats called here: https://www.bitmex.com/app/fairPriceMarking#weighted-bid-ask-and-mid-price "fair price"?
[2016-05-19 17:44:58] sleger : i hope you're gonna do huge volume for asking that many questions !
[2016-05-19 17:52:26] Smartass : haha. O.K.
[2016-05-19 17:53:22] Smartass : must say doc is pretty good, were just some specialties here..
[2016-05-19 17:53:39] Smartass : i mean trading didnt start yet with DAO...
[2016-05-19 19:38:17] rapidtrades : sleger: hows it going
[2016-05-19 19:38:28] sleger : great, nothing special
[2016-05-19 19:42:00] rapidtrades : me too tnx for asking
[2016-05-19 19:43:40] sleger : how is it going for you ?
[2016-05-19 19:44:21] sleger : :D sorry in the middle of placing wine order, and that's quite important for me!
[2016-05-19 19:45:26] rapidtrades : sleger: I thought muslims are not allowed alcohol
[2016-05-19 19:45:48] sleger : but i never said I was, and all the ones I know drink

[2016-05-20 00:27:56] rapidtrades : well we might as well pack up our bags
[2016-05-20 00:29:40] rapidtrades : a wise man once said ''once a shitcoin like ether starts leading you by the noose, its time to pack up your bags''
[2016-05-20 00:33:31] rapidtrades : that man? Albert Einstein
[2016-05-20 00:36:05] mrp1nk : lol
[2016-05-20 00:46:52] BitMEX_Sam : That XBTM16 liq is almost completely gone.
[2016-05-20 00:47:34] nickhnt : 35days to go and premium is only 6usd

[2016-05-20 01:00:27] aethlios : I had 43000 contr open and liquidation was a good price and liquidity to close position.
[2016-05-20 01:10:36] REKT : Liquidated short on `ETHXBT`: Buy 67 @ 0.03396
[2016-05-20 01:10:36] REKT : Liquidated short on `ETHXBT`: Buy 7 @ 0.03399

[2016-05-20 01:42:15] NukeLaloosh : BitMEX_Sam: what is the ETHXBT rebalance on 13 May that shows in my account ?
[2016-05-20 02:00:06] REKT : Liquidated long on `ETHXBT`: Sell 21 @ 0.03359
[2016-05-20 03:04:34] BitMEX_Wally : NukeLaloosh: https://www.bitmex.com/app/dynamicProfitEqualisation#contract-settlement-rebalance
[2016-05-20 03:04:49] BitMEX_Wally : Basically part of your profit or loss will move into your wallet every Friday
[2016-05-20 03:04:52] BitMEX_Wally : So you can withdraw it
[2016-05-20 03:33:05] rentchev : BitMEX_Wally: thanks for making all the changes on the quantity field. It works much better and will save a lot of traders from mistakes
[2016-05-20 03:34:41] BitMEX_Wally : Thanks, all credit to BitMEX_Sam though :)
[2016-05-20 04:08:58] NukeLaloosh : BitMEX_Wally: thank you. Slightly confused now as to why the interest rate swap. It doesn't impact the settlement/rebalance price, and from what I can see if one closes their position a minute before 1200 utc, then the entire daily holding period isn't subject to the swap rates
[2016-05-20 04:12:16] zanza : its to keep the price trading near to spot
[2016-05-20 04:13:17] NukeLaloosh : doesn't the imminent rebalancing force that?
[2016-05-20 04:13:51] zanza : you are borrowing money to trade on leverage
[2016-05-20 04:13:59] zanza : that borrowed money comes with an interest rate
[2016-05-20 04:14:24] zanza : finex does the same thing
[2016-05-20 04:16:22] NukeLaloosh : right, good point. using the btc rate is clear, as this exchange is btc denominated. but a trader is never borrowing eth here
[2016-05-20 04:17:41] BitMEX_Arthur : NukeLaloosh: The rates are there to compensate market makers
[2016-05-20 04:17:58] BitMEX_Arthur : https://blog.bitmex.com/swaps-101/
[2016-05-20 04:18:04] BitMEX_Arthur : Please read that to fully understand
[2016-05-20 04:19:50] BitMEX_Wally : You can close your long position just before 12:00 and open it again just after, but expect the market makers to have put the price up by exactly the funding rate
[2016-05-20 05:34:01] NukeLaloosh : Thanks Arthur, Wally, zanza. If I opened and kept the position at 1:1, the Funding Rate would still apply?
[2016-05-20 05:34:02] NukeLaloosh : And that FR is the net of the two rates, calculated on advanced 24 hr TWAP?
[2016-05-20 05:41:46] NukeLaloosh : or should I say, the TWAP over the prior 24 hrs is used for the current day's net funding rate
[2016-05-20 05:51:12] cryptostephen : LTC on coinbase holy shit
[2016-05-20 05:51:13] cryptostephen : https://twitter.com/SatoshiLite/status/733531564852699136
[2016-05-20 05:55:20] BitMEX_Wally : The funding rate is charged on the position value, so the leverage is irrelevant
[2016-05-20 05:56:21] BitMEX_Wally : and yes the funding rate charged at 12:00 today is the net of the 24 TWAPs from 12:00 yesterday
[2016-05-20 05:56:29] BitMEX_Arthur : cryptostephen: Awesome
[2016-05-20 05:56:40] BitMEX_Arthur : even Coinbase is going full degen casino
[2016-05-20 05:56:45] BitMEX_Arthur : now they just need margin trading
[2016-05-20 06:04:54] cryptostephen : this is THE biggest thing to EVER happen to Litecoin. think about that for a sec...
[2016-05-20 06:05:00] miramm1115 : BitMEX_Arthur: their license doesn't allow margin trading
[2016-05-20 06:05:08] BitMEX_Arthur : I know
[2016-05-20 06:05:29] BitMEX_Arthur : Which is why US exchanges will lag behind offshore platforms until that is enabled
[2016-05-20 06:05:52] BitMEX_Arthur : cryptostephen: I don't expect much, China rules Litecoin
[2016-05-20 06:15:53] cryptostephen : bitmex ahead of the game with LTC perpetual contracts

[2016-05-20 07:28:11] sq : tks
[2016-05-20 07:31:30] BitMEX_Arthur : Yes withheld profit will be released at 12utc today

[2016-05-20 11:52:56] sleger : al collateral here is btc
[2016-05-20 12:02:52] NukeLaloosh : so now the new entry price for ETHXBT is 0.03356 ??
[2016-05-20 12:04:07] vbmithr : Margin required = initial + maintenance margin?
[2016-05-20 12:04:23] vbmithr : I thought once an order was accepted, the required margin was just the maintenance margin
[2016-05-20 12:05:24] rapidtrades : so why didn't we converge with the settle price
[2016-05-20 12:05:27] rapidtrades : on btcusd
[2016-05-20 12:05:49] BitMEX_Wally : vbmithr: Once an order is activated (i.e. goes into the order book) it requires initial margin
[2016-05-20 12:06:01] vbmithr : yes
[2016-05-20 12:06:08] rapidtrades : still not exactly clear how these swaps work....
