This is a mirror of the original BitMEX trollbox archive that used to be online here.
BitMEX disabled their archive after the DDOS attack so I have decided to make my mirror publicly available.

Well now, a few days after I made this mirror available to the public, the original archive from BitMEX is online again.
But since it is still limited (neutered to the last few hundred messages) I will keep my FULL mirror alive.

You have access to more than 50 million trollbox posts. This is more than 7 gigabyte of data hosted on a $5 server so please be patient or consider a donation

[2016-01-29 02:55:26] tscha : habibi: sickest thing is that a Blockstream Core-Tech-Engineer actually proposed changing the license of Bitcoin-Core to prevent Gavin Andresen using any code https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/42j4px/til_that_blockstream_coretechengineer_patrick/
[2016-01-29 02:56:07] habibi : tscha: gavin? what about all forks? litecoin and every other?
[2016-01-29 02:57:04] tscha : habibi: he wanted to change the license to block just gavin from using the code... rofl
[2016-01-29 02:57:41] tscha : they were obviously scared he would work on a fork for a blocksize increase, since that harms their business model

[2016-01-29 05:36:37] zanza : do we know whos 250k rekt it was?
[2016-01-29 05:36:56] zanza : i have a personal 90k rekt record i believe
[2016-01-29 05:43:04] habibi : someones lost ~50 btc, shit happens man no matter who :p
[2016-01-29 05:43:20] habibi : just was funny to watch that he didnt even tried to close his position ealier :p
[2016-01-29 05:43:54] zanza : 260k margin is only 11 XBT
[2016-01-29 05:44:07] zanza : so that would be the minumum lost
[2016-01-29 05:45:05] habibi : he opened his position around 384
[2016-01-29 05:45:08] habibi : after settlement
[2016-01-29 05:45:17] zanza : yeah, considering accumulation, I would say 30 XBT minimum
[2016-01-29 05:45:35] habibi : http://scr.hu/9xvi/pscaf
[2016-01-29 05:45:39] zanza : he could have averaged 375
[2016-01-29 05:45:40] habibi : +- few btc imo
[2016-01-29 05:45:58] zanza : its possible, you are giving the max possible he lost
[2016-01-29 05:46:31] habibi : margin is way ealier than -1% 100x
[2016-01-29 05:46:39] zanza : so the max 47, the min is (just margin of 11)
[2016-01-29 05:46:47] zanza : so between 11-47
[2016-01-29 05:46:54] habibi : 11 would be on isolated
[2016-01-29 05:46:56] habibi : right?
[2016-01-29 05:47:05] zanza : or his entire account was maxxed :)
[2016-01-29 05:47:05] habibi : at it would be done muuuch ealier
[2016-01-29 05:47:09] laisee : a few less lap dances either way ...
[2016-01-29 05:47:44] zanza : gotta roll with punches, win some lose some
[2016-01-29 05:47:54] zanza : it does hurt though
[2016-01-29 05:48:09] habibi : anyway i bet that was the guy who was opening positions like mad making 3$ premium at 384-385
[2016-01-29 05:48:32] habibi : and he stopped at some point so premium was slowly decreasing
[2016-01-29 05:49:11] zanza : most likey he tried to catch the knife also
[2016-01-29 05:49:12] laisee : maybe thought Bitmex could be moved, but market said NO.
[2016-01-29 05:49:29] habibi : zanza: he wasnt catching any knives lel
[2016-01-29 05:49:31] habibi : when? ;p
[2016-01-29 05:50:05] habibi : there were conts open interest at 280->~300k
[2016-01-29 05:51:34] habibi : anyway 250k... thats quite nice position :)

[2016-01-29 13:25:48] sleger : remember when 12 hours ago you told everyone it was a perfect time to short and the price was 366 on bitfinex ?
[2016-01-29 13:30:37] sleger : everyone can see it in the archive : "tscha : great time to short imho"
[2016-01-29 13:31:21] tscha : sleger: I made 0.3 btc on that short
[2016-01-29 13:31:49] tscha : price dropped $5 after I said that, you can look it up
[2016-01-29 13:32:31] sleger : 0.3btc wow ... lol
[2016-01-29 13:34:38] tscha : chatlog says my quote was at 03:01, price was 367.92, at 04:10 it was <362 ;) never said to hold it until settlement, just expected another afterdrop which also ocurred ;)
[2016-01-29 13:35:38] Strobelov : I shorted around the same price and dozed off before closing. Whoops.
[2016-01-29 13:36:19] sleger : oh ok i can do like tscha too : i predict that the price will be lower than it is now, at some time in the future, but I also predict it will be higher at some time in the future.
[2016-01-29 13:36:21] tscha : Strobelov: ouch. sleeping with an open position on a market like this is very risk.
[2016-01-29 13:36:29] Strobelov : Woke up around 1am, price had climbed like $10. "oh, that's just the pre-OkC settlement pump, it'll fall back down by morning." Nope.
[2016-01-29 13:36:29] sleger : I'll let you know tomorrow when these times will be
[2016-01-29 13:37:05] Strobelov : tscha: yeah, it wasn't intentional; fell asleep on the sofa ;)
[2016-01-29 13:37:19] tscha : sleger: I said "good time to short", and immediately after that, the price was $5 down :)
[2016-01-29 13:37:30] Strobelov : it was a small short, only lost something like 0.3-0.4 btc
[2016-01-29 13:38:16] Strobelov : made some money on regular (non-future) trading, though, so all good.
[2016-01-29 13:38:34] sleger : tscha: It's ok you made a terrible call in the chat, you clearly said that it's going to drop much further
[2016-01-29 13:39:01] tscha : sleger: stop making up things, it's making you look so ridiculous :D
[2016-01-29 13:39:54] tscha : >[2016-01-29 02:01:57 UTC] tscha : great time to short imho
[2016-01-29 13:40:11] sleger : interesting that you didnt say a few min later that it was a great time to close that short....
[2016-01-29 13:40:22] tscha : one hour later I cashed in my profits on that trade and now you want to make it look like a bad call because 12 hours later, the price is higher
[2016-01-29 13:41:19] sleger : if you had said it it would have been possible to believe
[2016-01-29 13:42:01] tscha : What if I told you.. that I don't care if you believe me? :D
[2016-01-29 13:43:55] tscha : Strobelov: you trade spot btc? or other things?
[2016-01-29 13:44:09] Strobelov : yes, btc
[2016-01-29 13:44:10] sleger : if he's here probably futures
[2016-01-29 13:44:22] Strobelov : I only trade small amounts here
[2016-01-29 13:44:24] tscha : Strobelov: where if I may ask?
[2016-01-29 13:44:59] Strobelov : coinbase
[2016-01-29 14:11:13] arbitrage001 : still shorting 20k contract

[2016-01-29 14:53:28] sleger : tscha: you want to know what profit is : XBT24H Buy 45000 45000 0 364.70 XBT24H Buy 44920 45000 0 364.70 (that was the large liq order price) held until settlement : XBT24H Sell 74375 74375 0 383.06 (yes settlement size is a bit lower because i was sold some along the way up)
[2016-01-29 14:53:57] tscha : sleger: i am proud of you!!!! wow!!!!
[2016-01-29 14:54:18] tscha : sadly, you never post your losses though :(
[2016-01-29 14:55:46] sleger : there you go : XBT24H 9000 380.20 XBT7D 14000 380.64 (-0.5btc unrealized)
[2016-01-29 14:56:17] sleger : on the other hand I realized over 50btc of pnl on H16 and M16
[2016-01-29 14:56:30] Strobelov : Nice.
[2016-01-29 14:57:00] sleger : Actually, I did not realize them sorry, the system did at settlement, the positions are still open
[2016-01-29 14:57:36] tscha : what about the two months you were losing straight?
[2016-01-29 14:57:48] sleger : never happened ???
[2016-01-29 14:58:07] tscha : you said it yourself, you had 2 months of -pnl a year ago
[2016-01-29 14:58:31] sleger : oh over a year ago yes, but it is more than recovered, since the drawdown by definition just means that
[2016-01-29 14:58:55] sleger : It cant just go up in a straight line without a losing day right...
[2016-01-29 14:59:29] tscha : well, 2 months is not a day
[2016-01-29 14:59:51] arbitrage001 : slegar is a whale
[2016-01-29 15:00:05] sleger : no indeed, but if you remember that story you may also remember why
[2016-01-29 15:00:06] arbitrage001 : pointless to argue to us little fishes here
[2016-01-29 15:00:17] sleger : I slept through a settlement where I had a 3k btc position...
[2016-01-29 15:00:27] tscha : arbitrage001: we know he fell into a bag of coins, that doesn't make him a good trader though
[2016-01-29 15:00:38] sleger : my pnl does though
[2016-01-29 15:01:37] arbitrage001 : sleger thought process can be easily reconized as a good trader by any experience traders
[2016-01-29 15:02:12] arbitrage001 : the other guy, rapidsomething
[2016-01-29 15:02:21] arbitrage001 : just about anyone can tell he is a newbie
[2016-01-29 15:03:36] sleger : The problem is that since Arthur started his seminars, everyone here now think they are so smart and experienced, and justify everything because "quanto", magic word
[2016-01-29 15:06:24] arbitrage001 : used to short future contract on icbit
[2016-01-29 15:06:36] arbitrage001 : stop doing that for a while when the volume dry up
[2016-01-29 15:06:45] arbitrage001 : and spread is too wide
[2016-01-29 15:07:02] arbitrage001 : okc settlement is flawed in my opinion
[2016-01-29 15:07:10] arbitrage001 : so i stop tradin there as well
[2016-01-29 15:10:00] sleger : arbitrage001: what dont you like with okc settlement ?
[2016-01-29 15:10:32] sleger : icbit / orderbook I also traded there big time but quit a while ago, volume died, risk of "hack"/default...
[2016-01-29 15:10:38] arbitrage001 : it is based on last hour of trade on okc alone
[2016-01-29 15:10:49] arbitrage001 : easily manipulated
[2016-01-29 15:11:09] zanza : okc is a pretty big market tho
[2016-01-29 15:11:38] arbitrage001 : and future settlement price on okc has nothing gto do with spot price
[2016-01-29 15:11:53] arbitrage001 : on the same exchange
[2016-01-29 15:12:13] arbitrage001 : make 0 sense
[2016-01-29 15:12:43] j8 : it's 1/6 weighted. makes a little sense
[2016-01-29 15:12:44] sleger : yes but settlement is not that important, that is not how delivery price works
[2016-01-29 15:12:56] sleger : j8: no : settlement and delivery is not the same thing
[2016-01-29 15:13:12] j8 : "delivery" doesn't really happen though
[2016-01-29 15:13:15] sleger : "How is settlement price chosen? The system takes the last completed transaction price as the settlement price."
[2016-01-29 15:13:31] sleger : j8: they call it delivery
[2016-01-29 15:13:45] arbitrage001 : just average price of last hour future trading price
[2016-01-29 15:13:47] j8 : settlement there is called rebalance here right?
[2016-01-29 15:14:12] arbitrage001 : sorry, i should use the word deliver price
[2016-01-29 15:14:40] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBT24H`: Buy 100 @ 378.89
[2016-01-29 15:17:38] sleger : arbitrage001: thats incorrect
[2016-01-29 15:17:41] sleger : "1.At the time of delivery, the system will execute to close the positions on all opened weekly futures. The price will be the arithmetic mean value of the index of the preceding one hour before delivery."
[2016-01-29 15:17:47] sleger : "the INDEX"
[2016-01-29 15:18:27] sleger : otherwise it would be a pure gaming fun at settlement, prices would go crazy and biggest whale would win, it would be absurd
[2016-01-29 15:19:09] arbitrage001 : that is indeed what happened before
[2016-01-29 15:19:18] arbitrage001 : when i traded there a few months ago
[2016-01-29 15:19:44] sleger : AFAIK the delivery price has always been an average of the index. And I have traded there since futures started
[2016-01-29 15:21:15] arbitrage001 : where is the "index" price derived from?
[2016-01-29 15:21:21] arbitrage001 : on okc
[2016-01-29 15:21:39] sleger : avg of 6 spot exchanges
[2016-01-29 15:22:06] arbitrage001 : i feel safer trading here on bitmex
[2016-01-29 15:22:08] sleger : https://www. kc name .com/future/querylevelRate.do
[2016-01-29 15:22:34] sleger : its exactly the same process though, average of some index
[2016-01-29 15:23:21] arbitrage001 : given the high leverage here, i can store 70% of my coin at elsewhere
[2016-01-29 15:24:01] arbitrage001 : only rebalance the wallet on major move
[2016-01-29 15:26:40] sleger : ok, but this has nothing to do with the delivery price
[2016-01-29 15:26:52] arbitrage001 : maybe i made mistake
[2016-01-29 15:26:55] arbitrage001 : yes
[2016-01-29 15:27:45] arbitrage001 : must be making a major killing arbitraging on future on both exchanges
[2016-01-29 15:28:21] arbitrage001 : last year, most of my profit was arbitraging between bitfinex and btcchina spot price

[2016-01-29 17:26:23] rapidtrades : how's it going fellas?
[2016-01-29 17:26:52] BitMEX_Sam : Good... lots of code today
[2016-01-29 17:26:59] BitMEX_Sam : Working to get our new features out soon
[2016-01-29 17:27:52] rapidtrades : great
[2016-01-29 17:29:28] j8 : BitMEX_Sam: playing around with batch orders + amend on testnet, pretty slick
[2016-01-29 17:29:46] BitMEX_Sam : Yeah I think it's going to make a solid difference
[2016-01-29 17:30:01] BitMEX_Sam : At the very least, market makers won't have to cancel and replace which means way better coverage
[2016-01-29 17:30:29] BitMEX_Sam : But coding with bulk place/amend is just easier, too. The whole command fails if one of the members fails a risk check
[2016-01-29 17:30:56] j8 : yeah it is way cleaner
[2016-01-29 17:31:31] sleger : did you document somewhere what happens when there is a fill around the time of an amend price on an order, does the system replace just the open size or ... ?
[2016-01-29 17:32:00] tscha : it's all atomic
[2016-01-29 17:32:01] BitMEX_Sam : You amend price, qty, or leavesQty separately or together
[2016-01-29 17:32:45] BitMEX_Sam : This is how we implement usage in the mm bot example: https://github.com/BitMEX/market-maker/blob/master/market_maker/market_maker.py#L337
[2016-01-29 17:33:05] sleger : if my order was open for 6k, it gets filled for 3k, and i send an amend with size 6k still, whats the new open size ?
[2016-01-29 17:33:41] BitMEX_Sam : sleger: Depends on what you sent. It's the same order, if you don't amend the qty, the open size will still be 3k
[2016-01-29 17:33:47] BitMEX_Sam : See https://testnet.bitmex.com/api/explorer/#!/Order/Order_amend
[2016-01-29 17:34:05] BitMEX_Sam : So if you sent `{"orderQty": 6000}`, the open size would remain 3k
[2016-01-29 17:34:17] sleger : ok sounds good
[2016-01-29 17:34:18] BitMEX_Sam : But if you sent `{"leavesQty": 6000}`, the open size would be 6k
[2016-01-29 17:34:37] BitMEX_Sam : If you omit a qty altogether then it will just remain unchanged.
[2016-01-29 17:34:53] tscha : BitMEX_Sam: since odd batch sizes will consume `integer` calls, can we make the system round downwards for batchsize > 1? so that 3 orders = 1 call? :D :)
[2016-01-29 17:35:13] BitMEX_Sam : It rounds up, because otherwise 1 order would be 0 calls
[2016-01-29 17:35:33] BitMEX_Sam : And from a processing cost standpoint there is cost in processing the request itself, so it makes sense to round up
[2016-01-29 17:36:48] BitMEX_Sam : In the vast majority of cases if you're hitting ratelimits, you're either polling for data you shouldn't be, or you're quoting multiple markets / many levels, and you should be asking us for a higher ratelimit
[2016-01-29 17:36:53] j8 : BitMEX_Sam: and all other properties are preserved? like `ordType`, `timeInForce` etc
[2016-01-29 17:36:58] BitMEX_Sam : j8: Yes
[2016-01-29 17:37:12] j8 : ok.
[2016-01-29 17:37:22] BitMEX_Sam : In the near future we'll allow clicking on open orders in the UI as well to amend them
[2016-01-29 17:40:23] sleger : yes click on UI to cxl would be great
[2016-01-29 18:02:43] j8 : BitMEX_Sam: it looks like the reference MM is meant to be compatible with python3, i had to change a couple lines to make it work though... mainly just the base64 module used for clOrdId's
[2016-01-29 18:03:46] dorothy490 : I still dont get this model of index price... all exchanges at 378 yet index 379.21
[2016-01-29 18:05:05] rapidtrades : yeah indexx is pretty stupid
[2016-01-29 18:05:29] rapidtrades : we advocated to change it to fair weighting for all exchanges but ultimately bitmex makes the call
[2016-01-29 18:05:42] j8 : dorothy490: the index is 377.66, you're looking at the fair price which follows the futures market
[2016-01-29 18:06:44] rapidtrades : all day yday index traded closer to okc but 1-2 hrs before settlement it switched to trade closer to bitfinex
[2016-01-29 18:31:55] zanza : trade quarterlies if you are worrid about small manipulations in the market
[2016-01-29 18:33:46] djuan : oi oi trickle! gis a wink will ya ?
[2016-01-29 18:55:14] BitMEX_Sam : Thanks j8 - found that and pushed a fix for py3
[2016-01-29 19:12:25] j8 : right on
[2016-01-29 19:56:27] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBT24H`: Sell 999 @ 378.70
[2016-01-29 21:21:09] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBT7D`: Sell 240 @ 376.79
[2016-01-29 21:51:50] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBT24H`: Sell 2 @ 376.27 :punch: :whale:
[2016-01-29 22:48:30] tscha : interesting
[2016-01-29 22:51:17] thehawthorne : lol
[2016-01-30 00:16:40] rapidtrades : have anyone put a bid for borrowing on okc and actually gotten filled?
[2016-01-30 00:25:17] rapidtrades : the lowest bid on okc is 6x the finex price...and the ask is 0.1%, 10 times over finex
[2016-01-30 00:25:35] rapidtrades : if u want more BTC for your bid....go hit my bid b1tches
[2016-01-30 03:34:44] rapidtrades : that unrelenting selling....
[2016-01-30 03:38:48] rapidtrades : noone is hitting the asks on okc...doesn't look good for the bullz
[2016-01-30 03:41:06] arbitrage001 : sentiment can change fast
[2016-01-30 03:41:23] arbitrage001 : how long have you trade btc?
[2016-01-30 03:42:57] rapidtrades : 2-3 yrs
[2016-01-30 03:43:40] arbitrage001 : what was the price years ago?
[2016-01-30 03:43:47] arbitrage001 : 3 years ago
[2016-01-30 03:44:53] rapidtrades : idk $20?
[2016-01-30 03:45:46] arbitrage001 : if you hold for 3 years, you should been very well off
[2016-01-30 03:46:02] arbitrage001 : even after china crashed
[2016-01-30 03:46:29] rapidtrades : I started bit later actively trading...I only had $100 in BTC back then
[2016-01-30 03:46:50] rapidtrades : so if I bought and held, I would be down by 60-70%
[2016-01-30 03:47:18] arbitrage001 : i have been trading more than 15 years
[2016-01-30 03:47:42] arbitrage001 : most day traders or active traders eventually blown out
[2016-01-30 03:48:37] arbitrage001 : need to have competitive advantage to stay in the business
[2016-01-30 03:48:51] rapidtrades : yeah prolly right...my directional trades are on daily chart and higher
[2016-01-30 03:49:04] arbitrage001 : if not, fee and spread eventually kill you off
[2016-01-30 03:50:39] rapidtrades : well things are a lot better these days...u have 0 fees on okc for example
[2016-01-30 03:51:04] rapidtrades : back when I started 0.2% was the norm
[2016-01-30 03:51:08] arbitrage001 : exchange needs to survive too
[2016-01-30 03:51:23] arbitrage001 : so if they are offering 0 fee, i would be extremely careful
[2016-01-30 03:51:40] habibi : just a diffrent bussiness model
[2016-01-30 03:51:51] rapidtrades : it's not so much the fees...price is a lot more unpredictable the lower you go in tfs
[2016-01-30 03:51:55] arbitrage001 : how do they make money?
[2016-01-30 03:52:20] rapidtrades : most traders use market orders i guess? u only pay 0 on limits
[2016-01-30 03:52:34] rapidtrades : similar model to here
[2016-01-30 03:53:24] habibi : loans/margin for spot/holding users money on bank safe options, futures fees, inside trading

[2016-01-30 07:47:16] rapidtrades : why are interest rates for BTC so high on okc
[2016-01-30 09:02:00] zanza : caus Yuan ?
[2016-01-30 09:43:27] zanza : wow SNP recovered!
[2016-01-30 09:43:30] zanza : recession over?
[2016-01-30 10:21:09] REKT : Liquidated long on `XBT24H`: Sell 3 @ 375.63 :punch: :whale:
[2016-01-30 12:50:54] rapidtrades : any support here? how do I figure out my PnL
[2016-01-30 12:54:31] rapidtrades : can we add more functionality to the trade history page? like combined PnL and filter by contract, by day, month etc
[2016-01-30 12:57:43] rapidtrades : I have a general idea how much I made but I would like a more accurate measure...if you add more contracts as the day goes on it becomes a nightmare to figure out the PnL for all of them combined
[2016-01-30 13:00:07] djuan : rapidtrades: ok mate. I'm on it!

[2016-01-30 17:28:48] arbitrage001 : arbitrage
[2016-01-30 17:29:05] arbitrage001 : either on spot price or future
[2016-01-30 17:29:31] arbitrage001 : pretty close to risk free
[2016-01-30 17:29:45] arbitrage001 : unless exchange owners run away
[2016-01-30 17:31:46] Scottv53 : @arbitrage001 what would be the best way to learn arbitrage strategies
[2016-01-30 17:32:06] Scottv53 : using BTC
[2016-01-30 17:32:33] arbitrage001 : research all the top exchanges
[2016-01-30 17:32:53] arbitrage001 : check price distortion and figure out why and when to take actions
[2016-01-30 17:33:02] Scottv53 : Your tools?
[2016-01-30 17:33:13] arbitrage001 : internet?
[2016-01-30 17:33:16] arbitrage001 : google
[2016-01-30 17:34:36] arbitrage001 : arthur last 4 seminars
[2016-01-30 17:34:49] arbitrage001 : did you watch and learn from them?
[2016-01-30 17:35:16] Scottv53 : yeah
[2016-01-30 17:35:29] Scottv53 : just watched the last lesson
[2016-01-30 17:35:31] arbitrage001 : already a very good starting point to make money
[2016-01-30 17:35:46] arbitrage001 : when i started, i had to figure out everything myself
[2016-01-30 17:36:37] Scottv53 : i'll have to go through the lessons again
[2016-01-30 17:37:00] Scottv53 : i'm new to futures
[2016-01-30 17:38:12] arbitrage001 : arbitrage on spot first then
[2016-01-30 17:38:25] Scottv53 : what is your average weekly pnl @arbitrage001
[2016-01-30 17:38:43] arbitrage001 : depend on market condition
[2016-01-30 17:38:53] Scottv53 : pecentage wise
[2016-01-30 17:39:01] rapidtrades : is it over 9000?
[2016-01-30 17:39:03] arbitrage001 : and how i position myself when market rally or plunge
[2016-01-30 17:39:42] arbitrage001 : 9000 what?
[2016-01-30 17:39:48] arbitrage001 : %?
[2016-01-30 17:40:33] Scottv53 : rapidtrades: thats seems unrealistic/
[2016-01-30 17:42:26] Scottv53 : whats realistic achievable % pnl per week or month @arbitrage001
[2016-01-30 17:42:53] arbitrage001 : dunno
[2016-01-30 17:43:09] arbitrage001 : if you manage to consistently get 30% per year
[2016-01-30 17:43:16] arbitrage001 : you will do very well
[2016-01-30 17:43:43] Scottv53 : i would love that
[2016-01-30 17:43:51] arbitrage001 : then do lending on bitfinex
[2016-01-30 17:45:09] Scottv53 : i tried lending USD on bitfinex rates have dropped considerably below 10% per annum
[2016-01-30 17:45:12] tscha : Scottv53: Measuring pnl in relation to your investment is hard for bitcoin, since the markets are not so deep. For most strategies, there is an absolute cap which is reached pretty quick.
[2016-01-30 17:45:47] tscha : i.e. 10 times your investment doesn't get you 10 times the profit
[2016-01-30 17:46:33] Scottv53 : tscha: true indeed
[2016-01-30 17:59:49] elmorte : Yeah..had to explain that to my old man Me: Dad, I made $150 on bitcoin today Dad: That's awesome! Now imagine if you had a million $ to invest Me: Yeah, about that...
[2016-01-30 18:01:58] elmorte : arbitrage001: what spot price do you use as a reference? Bitfinex?
[2016-01-30 18:02:51] arbitrage001 : okcoin has a mobile phone app
[2016-01-30 18:02:55] arbitrage001 : okc
[2016-01-30 18:03:23] arbitrage001 : can check all prices on major exchange at once
[2016-01-30 18:03:29] elmorte : OKC is almost always at a premium
[2016-01-30 18:03:35] elmorte : Yeah, I use bitcoinwisdom.com
[2016-01-30 18:03:43] arbitrage001 : and there is a reason for it
[2016-01-30 18:03:55] arbitrage001 : okc, btcchina and houbi
[2016-01-30 18:04:03] arbitrage001 : capital control in china
[2016-01-30 18:04:25] elmorte : And just a general question: why is there such a premium at Huobi / BTC-E? Are transaction costs really that high that ppl can't take advantage of arbitrage opp?
[2016-01-30 18:04:35] elmorte : Huobi...
[2016-01-30 18:04:43] zanza : rofl
[2016-01-30 18:04:47] elmorte : lol...it's censored :)
[2016-01-30 18:04:55] arbitrage001 : price has to be wide enough for arbitraguer to take action
[2016-01-30 18:05:08] arbitrage001 : 2% difference is the threshold for me
[2016-01-30 18:05:14] arbitrage001 : for me to take action
[2016-01-30 18:05:20] elmorte : There 8% at times
[2016-01-30 18:05:25] elmorte : is*
[2016-01-30 18:05:31] arbitrage001 : 40% is the record
[2016-01-30 18:05:36] elmorte : 8$....sorry
[2016-01-30 18:05:42] arbitrage001 : during the china boom time
[2016-01-30 18:05:48] Scottv53 : arbitrage001: yeah how do you take advantage of spread
[2016-01-30 18:05:53] elmorte : Messed up thing is I have a Bank of China account in China
[2016-01-30 18:06:06] elmorte : But coz of my passport, OKC won't auth me
[2016-01-30 18:06:10] arbitrage001 : buy low sell high
[2016-01-30 18:06:12] elmorte : *sigh*
[2016-01-30 18:06:29] arbitrage001 : when market calm down after chaos, which it always does
[2016-01-30 18:06:31] elmorte : Yeah, don't get high on your own supply...I know the commandments :)
[2016-01-30 18:06:38] arbitrage001 : spread across exchanges will be lower
[2016-01-30 18:06:49] arbitrage001 : then you move your money back
[2016-01-30 18:07:33] elmorte : That's the thing...I'm seeing this constant spread for weeks. You'd think ppl would take advantage of it
[2016-01-30 18:07:46] arbitrage001 : like i said
[2016-01-30 18:07:57] arbitrage001 : spread not wide enough for us to take actions
[2016-01-30 18:08:32] arbitrage001 : 2% price difference, i may do something
[2016-01-30 18:08:33] elmorte : Aight, cheers
[2016-01-30 18:08:54] Scottv53 : how often does the chaos happen for you to take action per month?
[2016-01-30 18:09:09] Scottv53 : arbitrage001: how often does the chaos happen for you to take action per month?
[2016-01-30 18:09:15] arbitrage001 : every few months
[2016-01-30 18:09:17] elmorte : almost every other weekend since October
[2016-01-30 18:10:20] arbitrage001 : last month, price at btcchina was 12 dollars higher than bitfinex
[2016-01-30 18:10:26] arbitrage001 : which i took advantage
[2016-01-30 18:10:36] arbitrage001 : then when price reversed
[2016-01-30 18:10:41] arbitrage001 : price in china crashed
[2016-01-30 18:10:51] elmorte : So you kept yuan on the exchange?
[2016-01-30 18:10:57] arbitrage001 : i bought and move the money back
[2016-01-30 18:11:01] elmorte : or whatever fiat you used
[2016-01-30 18:11:02] arbitrage001 : yes
[2016-01-30 18:11:08] elmorte : K
[2016-01-30 18:11:26] elmorte : That makes sense. Was it hard to get authed?
[2016-01-30 18:11:39] arbitrage001 : nope
[2016-01-30 18:11:49] arbitrage001 : 10 btc limit on withdrawal
[2016-01-30 18:12:04] arbitrage001 : you can lock in price by buying then shorting first
[2016-01-30 18:12:08] Scottv53 : how do you get yuan if you are not in china?
[2016-01-30 18:12:32] REKT : Liquidated short on `XBT24H`: Buy 5764 @ 378.23
[2016-01-30 18:12:36] arbitrage001 : if you dont have china bank account
[2016-01-30 18:12:48] arbitrage001 : then you wait for price action to reverse
[2016-01-30 18:13:05] arbitrage001 : when price in china lower, you buy and move btc back
[2016-01-30 18:13:06] elmorte : Scottv53: You don't really need to if you're selling on an exchange, then you keep it in the CNY wallet on the exch.'
[2016-01-30 18:14:31] arbitrage001 : think the price difference was 50 usd in last nov
[2016-01-30 18:14:55] arbitrage001 : around 10% difference
[2016-01-30 18:14:58] elmorte : Yeah, I was in China at the time
[2016-01-30 18:15:09] arbitrage001 : so, if you make 3 good trades like this per year
[2016-01-30 18:15:18] elmorte : Killing it on LocalBTC
[2016-01-30 18:15:22] arbitrage001 : that is already 30%
[2016-01-30 18:15:45] arbitrage001 : can outperform most traders already
[2016-01-30 18:15:58] arbitrage001 : except slegar and me
[2016-01-30 18:15:58] Scottv53 : arbitrage001: have you ever bought BTC from the BTC-e exchANGE?
[2016-01-30 18:16:15] arbitrage001 : yes, long time ago
[2016-01-30 18:16:25] arbitrage001 : dont have enough trust on btc-e
[2016-01-30 18:16:34] arbitrage001 : so i rarely used it
[2016-01-30 18:16:37] elmorte : You TTed fiat to them?
[2016-01-30 18:16:45] arbitrage001 : nope
[2016-01-30 18:17:15] elmorte : Err...Litecoin?
[2016-01-30 18:17:29] arbitrage001 : cant remember
[2016-01-30 18:17:29] elmorte : :)
[2016-01-30 18:17:53] Scottv53 : @arbitrage001 I see their BTC price is consistently lower than Bitfinex?
[2016-01-30 18:18:11] elmorte : I got authed for USD TT deposits...but just can't commit to put USD on there
[2016-01-30 18:18:13] arbitrage001 : probably because it is hard to send fiat to
[2016-01-30 18:18:19] Scottv53 : I would like to wire them some USD dollars
[2016-01-30 18:18:26] arbitrage001 : high deposit fee also i think
[2016-01-30 18:18:49] elmorte : Yeah, it wouldn't make sense unelss you're sending 10k US$
[2016-01-30 18:18:58] arbitrage001 : if you see btc-e price higher
[2016-01-30 18:19:02] arbitrage001 : then send btc there to sell
[2016-01-30 18:19:12] arbitrage001 : and wait for it to go lower than the rest of the world again
[2016-01-30 18:19:26] elmorte : For day trading anyway. Maybe if you're going reaaal long
[2016-01-30 18:19:44] arbitrage001 : another good way to make profit without too much risk
[2016-01-30 18:20:20] elmorte : Nice tip, didn't think about that
[2016-01-30 18:22:19] Scottv53 : arbitrage001: how often do you see normally, this opportunities per month?
[2016-01-30 18:22:49] arbitrage001 : didnt count
[2016-01-30 18:23:03] arbitrage001 : but if you focus on trading btc full time
[2016-01-30 18:23:10] arbitrage001 : you will see lots of opportunity
[2016-01-30 18:23:24] arbitrage001 : just need to learn the rope and how
[2016-01-30 18:24:06] arbitrage001 : and do homework first, of course
[2016-01-30 18:25:17] Scottv53 : arbitrage001: are you full time trading btc
[2016-01-30 18:25:26] Scottv53 : ?

[2016-01-30 18:26:26] Scottv53 : do you do basis trading though
[2016-01-30 18:26:28] arbitrage001 : remember, you only need to make a few good trades
[2016-01-30 18:26:52] arbitrage001 : only results count
[2016-01-30 18:27:00] arbitrage001 : what is advance?

[2016-01-30 18:28:57] Scottv53 : i think so
[2016-01-30 18:29:07] arbitrage001 : yes
[2016-01-30 18:29:13] arbitrage001 : have a huge position also
[2016-01-30 18:29:26] arbitrage001 : which paid off nicely so far
[2016-01-30 18:29:49] arbitrage001 : slegar probably making out like bandit this month
[2016-01-30 18:30:53] Scottv53 : basis trading seems less risky, and consistent, unless i'm missing something @arbitrage001
[2016-01-30 18:31:22] arbitrage001 : what do you mean basis trading?
[2016-01-30 18:31:31] arbitrage001 : directional trade?
[2016-01-30 18:31:44] Scottv53 : yes
[2016-01-30 18:31:59] arbitrage001 : dont think basis trading is lower risk
[2016-01-30 18:32:09] arbitrage001 : fee and spread
[2016-01-30 18:32:18] Scottv53 : like in arthurs's video lesson 4
[2016-01-30 18:32:53] arbitrage001 : think his lesson 4 is cash and carry
[2016-01-30 18:33:09] arbitrage001 : didnt watch too closely
[2016-01-30 18:33:16] Scottv53 : yes thats what i mean
[2016-01-30 18:33:50] arbitrage001 : less risky than directional trading
[2016-01-30 18:34:00] arbitrage001 : but higher than spot price arbitrage
[2016-01-30 18:34:15] Scottv53 : true
[2016-01-30 18:34:41] arbitrage001 : dont forget bitmex is still somewhat new
[2016-01-30 18:35:06] arbitrage001 : risk of exchange theft or owners running away
[2016-01-30 18:35:17] arbitrage001 : is non-zero
[2016-01-30 18:36:22] Scottv53 : i think arthur should do a live trade example, and explain like five year olds.
[2016-01-30 18:36:54] Scottv53 : yes, theres's no recourse unless the exchange is in the USA.
[2016-01-30 18:36:54] arbitrage001 : you need to do your own homework also
[2016-01-30 18:37:04] Scottv53 : true
[2016-01-30 18:37:38] arbitrage001 : most people took awhile to learn from their own
[2016-01-30 18:38:06] arbitrage001 : dont even know what question to ask at first
[2016-01-30 18:38:07] Scottv53 : thats me too

[2016-01-30 18:43:08] elmorte : KyleBenzle [-1] [score hidden] 5 hours ago No, you are misunderstanding what Bitcoin is and how it works by asking your question.
[2016-01-30 18:43:20] elmorte : F'n /r/Bitcoin
[2016-01-30 18:44:02] elmorte : Wonder what kind of answers Scott would've gotten there
[2016-01-30 18:50:01] Scottv53 : arbitrage001: before i go; can you open two seperate accounts with bitmex trading only XBT24h lets say you go long on the one account and go short on the other account and setup stop loss at different levels/
[2016-01-30 18:50:33] arbitrage001 : dont know
[2016-01-30 18:50:48] arbitrage001 : on the stop loss
[2016-01-30 18:51:07] arbitrage001 : dont see why you need 2 accounts
[2016-01-30 18:51:40] Scottv53 : i see that BTC moves in steep, vertical moves,
[2016-01-30 18:51:43] elmorte : If you use the same account, wouldn't the positions just cancel out?
[2016-01-30 18:52:08] Scottv53 : elmorte: no seperate email address
[2016-01-30 18:52:17] Scottv53 : account
[2016-01-30 18:53:43] elmorte : I was referring to arbitrage asking why you need two accounts
[2016-01-30 18:54:33] Scottv53 : no, im refering to the directional trade, not arbitrage @elmorte
[2016-01-30 18:54:57] Scottv53 : got to go guys, cheers
[2016-01-30 18:55:00] elmorte : brb, out of my depth

[2016-01-31 05:49:56] BitMEX_Wally : delay
[2016-01-31 05:54:05] j8 : BitMEX_Wally: hey wally, i got an API question for ya
[2016-01-31 05:54:19] BitMEX_Wally : Sure :)
[2016-01-31 05:54:30] j8 : what is `{"execType":"Restated"}` all about
[2016-01-31 05:57:31] BitMEX_Wally : When an order is submitted there are 2 stages, first it goes from `PendingNew` to `New` after validation
[2016-01-31 05:58:01] BitMEX_Wally : Then once it is ready to enter or match against the order book the `workingIndicator` goes from `false` to `true`.
[2016-01-31 05:59:27] BitMEX_Wally : I used to use a `Restated` message to push this out, but now (in testnet) it all happens in 1 message
[2016-01-31 06:01:34] BitMEX_Wally : Now I use `Restated` for unsolicited changes to the order, for example with `TrailingStopPeg` orders, when the `StopPx` gets updated
[2016-01-31 06:04:44] j8 : ok that makes sense, so `Replaced` is always used for amends?
